    I used to have a 1952 Ford F1 and I modified a Pinto wiring harness to put in it along with a Pinto steering column. Hurricane Katrina took out the truck and it ended up being scrapped. I had a Ford 361 Windsor engine and the old fmx automatic transmission in it. I had tried to modify the original wiper system with a Volkswagen wiper motor and had to brace it. It worked but something went wrong, so I pulled it back out and it is still hanging in my shed to this day.

    I liked the steering box rebuild. Of course you realize all of your viewers get reassemblies of tricky parts right first try, and never forget to align a gasket. ("Tyeah, right!) I have a memory of fighting to adjust the lash (steering wheel play) at the steering box, before discovering the adjuster was left hand thread. I hope that was not my finest hour. Adjusting the wiper arm length could be done by drilling a hole at the one inch point and moving the pin to it. Simpler. Maybe next time. Nice progress on the truck.

    Chris, was a little nervous watching you moving the steering shaft next to your freshly painted cab (If it was me, I would have whacked ithe cab for sure)!😭 Love the truck and the detail work looks great! The Live Stream will be the highlight of my weekend, GO Penny's!

    Its a good thing that mechanics don't even try to think of how many pieces there are on a rig getting ready to drive as new or even better. Since they are not perfect rigs, why go to the trouble of fixing old stuff right down to the little paint stripes the factory did on different models of rigs and how that it would make a difference now. Old like me and getting ready for the dirt nap

    those wiper stanchions have little rubbers gskts under them and if i remember right ,the cowl vent should have a gskt between it and the body.I have a pick up also.

    • @pennyshotrodscustoms
      @pennyshotrodscustoms  3 года назад +4

      We found out about the wiper gaskets, and that makes sense about the vent gasket also. I will have to look into that one. we have the gasket that goes on top of the vent mechanism to seal out the weather but not the other one. Thank you Nick.

    That a new front end and parts on a vehicle can be exspensive. Then I was lucky to find my antique car in decent condition. The past owner had put a new front end with brakes on my car along with tires. The car had been already lowered. Although, the 390 engine had to be purchased separately. About my Mercury.

    • @pennyshotrodscustoms
      @pennyshotrodscustoms  3 года назад +2

      Yes some of the parts are expensive. My cousin bought parts for the truck in stages, just so there is not one big hit to your wallet.

    Well, that I also must follow the Western Flyer understanding about a vehicle. Just that it's entirely my own problems. Although, it's really great to get a break from time too time.

    If you decide to keep the stock steering wheel you can file the cracks to a V and fill with a 2 part epoxy like PC 7 . I used it on my 51 Chevy truck wheel and it worked well.

    If you were going to run wire to operate horn inside shaft wouldn’t you did that while associated?

    • @pennyshotrodscustoms
      @pennyshotrodscustoms  3 года назад +2

      Since we probably will be making our own steering wheel, I was unsure if we were going to put a stock horn button in or put one on the dash or under the dash.
