Awesome episode of *"Wheeler Dealers"!* I would've kept everything as original as possible on the outside, while upgrading mechanically, including upgrading to an all-synchromesh 4 spd. manual gearbox.
Truck looks awesome great job. This episode one of my favourites. Would be great to drive.
That is exactly what I drove to High School back in 1979. I made it a flip front end and 292 V8

Only thing that I don't like is that they turned it into an automatic.. they should have left it Manual..
I would normally agree however that thing looks like it would be horrible to drive as a manual
No....its just like driving a automatic. In our time you only learned on a stick or you didn't get your license to me it was just fun.
If I had one, I would section it just behind the front of the box and add 2 feet to the box, frame and driveshaft. I would ad 3 leaves to the back springs and one to the front. I would widen the stock rims 4" at the back and 2" at the front.Then I would put in a Lincoln V12 flathead modded to the max and straight pipes up behind the cab. Now THAT would be a truck.
So they take a truck with perfect patina and put a lot of work into making a fake patina... Ooookaaayyyyy.......

They should have gone with a 5 speed conversion.
Decent looking project for the money they could have done better, no suspension/brake upgrades? Not a fan of the horsehide interior.

they never put in eds wages so i think they don't have any profit maybe a loss
my guess is that edd's wage was barely matched by what television paid for the show. A big gape to fill.

He used an angle grinder to grind a piece of steel next to the glass ( having masked what we wanted to keep clear). The hot sparks fused into the glass creating the effect
Nothing wrong with the transmission just Mike is too stupid to use it properly if you are crunching gears you arent rev matching right hell when you get it dallied in you can even go down gears without the clutch. Man wouldnt last two seconds on a Ford TW tractor the crash box in it was almost bombproof so i would reckon this would be pretty similar in terms of reliability

nah l don't agree , wanna burn out the clutch stop/start in a traffic jam ? you & l know traffic is so different now a days , all stop & start, nah not for me , give me an auto anytime !
Point of the rat look is to take a vehicle with natural patina and do what they say. That has been deliberately made to look ratty... and you can tell a MILE off. Not natural at all.
They shuld've just brushed of any lose dirt and rust and then given it a satin clear all over.

The "new" show on Velocity that Ed used to be in is not any good anymore! Ed was/makes the show so much better, not anymore, stopped watching it after his departure.

FK I would take out the crap ford engine out and put in a real engine . A 1975 Chevy 350 in it and make it a real truck . Well almost a real truck . A real truck would be a 1978 2500 Chevy fleetline long bed . Ho Hay
Why screw with a number 2 truck when you already have the number 1 truck?
People love the look and sound of a flathead, even though most OHV engines have more horsepower and a lower price. For those who want to keep it all Ford, a 302 or 351W isn't too expensive.
Leaving a truck weathered and making the mechanicals operable is NOOOOT referred to as a rat rod. Fir all the clueless fans of these two ding dongs watching. So ya know. Rat rod is kind if an insult. They are something different and silly....made of mismatched parts.
