Lived in Peterlee til I was 18 and returned regularly to see my parents til they died there in recent years. I went to work in Hollywood, now live in Krakow, Poland, but Peterlee will always be home. It's heartbreaking to see what's happened there. Unbelievable. Got to tell you, once upon a time the Poles used to move to England for better life. Poland is a paradise now compared to places like this. No boarded up shops here, people walk around with smiles on their face. It's like watching a third world country now looking at Peterlee. The shops in the town center were quality. Who remembers Doggarts? A proper old fashioned department store long before JD Sports were there. Sparks bakers, Hintons, Fine Fare, Presto - there were record shops, tailors. There was a car dealership in the town center - Bradleys. We didn't know we had it so good in Peterlee back in the day. Had my first beers in the Gamecock, 15 years old😀. Sister's wedding reception in The Norseman. Honestly, it looks like a war happened there. Still mad daft about Sunderland and really appreciate your videos Mate, even if they make me sad
Cheers mate that’s spot on I remember loads of polish people working here in early 2000s and it’s great to see Poland doing so well but like you say very sad to see the decline of this country under these governments. Thanks for the comments mate and take care cheers

Bookmarked for tomorrow night Terry 👍. 🍿 🍻. I went to Peterlee college from 1995 to 1997 and have good memories of the place. The gamecock pub and the Argus Butterfly pub.
I went to Dene House school.....left at 16 and worked at Maybelts Horden...then moved....thank fuck. Great work friends at Maybelts.....used to finish early on Friday and straight down the pub which was only about 30 yards from the factory.......many pints of trophy bitter sank, On Saturday we used to go in overtime, 8.30am til 12.30...just across the road there used to be a bakery, had meat slices, stottie bread sarnies....ham and pese pudding. Thats when it was buzzing there.......all gone now i think but some good friends and memories.

bit of a blast from the past this... as I got a job in bracken hill business park in 1999 and moved to Murton and would go shopping here after work..! and my parents had some food shops in newcastle in the late 80s / early 90s and also did some markets etc, including the one located in the main square within the shopping centre here - you may remember it - they sold pies etc, pop and crisps! stepdad was called John...and they even opened a shop in station town selling the same kind of stuff.. :)

Minding on with Alin Brothers at Peterlee and my Ma, every year without fail - a new pair of black cords kegs, an itchy jumper pull owa and a new pair of dress shoes (spacadappas) that took the skin off my heels for the school Christmas party. They still have a shop in Seaham but I'm ok for this year's party clays. 👍
My bank is still Halifax the Chare in Peterlee even though I haven't been there in 30 years. Such a crying shame to see how bad it has become. Interesting to see Jameson, Smith and Graham have moved premises and are now just Smith and Graham. Not only were all the shops open back in the day but there was a thriving market too.
Excellent video (as always) you lads 💯! Oh what a shame about Peterlee generally. Durham County Council are taking in disproportionate amounts of mass immigration and swamping Peterlee, Horden, Blackhall and Easington Colliery and since Starmer came to power it seems to have ramped up. Seaham is getting exactly the same now with new demographics (go figure lol) so nowhere is spared this. We lived on the now sadly infamous B-Streets in Easington Colliery and most of the boarded up houses there have and are still being snapped up with greedy landlords and Durham CC work with them to bring them up to a very basic standard and the new immigrants are moving in en masse. MP Grahame Morris and his area Councillors will NOT talk about it and attack those who dare ask why this is happening which is not right. Ordinary decent people are seeing Easington Colliery and all East Durham looking in all due respect like inner city London, Manchester or Birmingham. There are African take-aways popping up, I'm sure they're nice and good luck to them but it just reflects what Peterlee & district is transforming into and there is no way back. That aside me and Mr love your videos' you Daft Lads haha and you cheer us and many many more subscribers up. Looking forward to your next escapades. Susan xxx
