Brilliant as always terry and keano wishing you and yours all the best to both you always get good laugh terry love your content terry mate all the best
Nice cozy pub that and the food looked lovely. Bit Hound of the Baskervilles or American Werewolf in London with the fog but just added to the atmosphere. Love a nice pub fire myself, especially on a freezing day. Another great video lads, keep up the good work!
Great video Terry, my neck of the woods. Sadly Bishop Auckland town centre not far away from here has similar problems with closed down stores. Was once a thriving town now reduced to charity shops with everything moving to out of town retail parks. Worth a visit while you are out and about along with West Auckland both with a rich football history too.
@@Madsoutandabout will do mate, only found this channel through your Sunderland one. So a bit of catching up to do. West Auckland worth a look “home of the first World Cup” when a team of miners beat Juventus. Big statue on the village green now with all the info next to it.
Great vlog guys.😆Long time ago I had running connections with Newton Aycliffe myself.Did the Flymo Half Marathon a few times, the lamplights!I remember one occasion I ran in spikes as conditions were abit treacherous under foot.Still don't know how everyone we got round the course! Shame about the shopping centre as I used to go there as a kid with my grandparents/family occasionally and remember when all the shops were occupied.Where Wilkos was I remember trailing round a superstore which had two departments, possibly a Fine Fare!? Unfortunately the big car park has become unused and not loved anymore and I think it will good thing if its demolished. Interested to see what they will use the land for??
I've been watching a lot of 'death of the highstreet' videos lately, all talking about the massive increases in rent so no one can afford to open a business. Also y'no between all the online shopping there's no need to go out anymore and visit a shop to buy physical items they all just come to the door .. another reason. It's sad really .. I remember in the 80/90's Newcastle, edon square and around was always buzzing .. it's not bad on central Newcastle but the surrounding is just dead in some areas ... anyway .. thanks for another great video! .. keep at it! :D
I haven't Bern to Newcastle for a while but the wife went, recently, and was horrified at the state of the city centre. Sadly, everywhere'being affected. But, we've only got ourselves to blame, using Amazon etc. Take a look back at videos/pictures from the 60s through to the 90s, and you can see the difference with town and village centres. All rather depressing, I'm afraid.
Never been there before doesn't look that bad actually think your right mate its the high rents thats causing most of the damage to the shops great to see the daft lad's living it up class mate
Hate the place but miss it also. Born and raised in aycliffe, many memories of smoking biftas in that car park etc. Makes me sad looking at what it has become since I was a kid 😢
@Madsoutandabout we called them biftas back in the day lol, yea it is mate, should try George and dragon in heighington next time ya there mate, miles better for food, unreal pub it is
Terry, I lived in Newton Aycliffe for 20 years, the demise of the town centre began when the then council sold the area to a London ran business, the rents were doubled overnight and continue to rise above the costs that local retailers can afford. This was the sole reason of the demise,
the car park is getting knocked down and i think thats why half the shops are closed on that side, there is an upstairs aswell, nice chinese closed and a nice idian the only shop left open up stairs
The multi-storey car park was proposed to be knocked down in 2022 and the land redeveloped as a smaller ground level car park and bus station/interchance by the council but the government rejected the plan under the 'levelling-up' scheme.
This world’s upside down. Councils prefer empty shops than a bustling high street. If it was me I’d give new businesses 6 month free rent. How depressing. We’re to blame as well. Going online for everything. I keep telling people to use cash for everything. Cos believe me when we go card only you will be imprisoned. Don’t do what the government tell you. No credits and card cancelled. This is the route we are rapidly heading towards. Depressing

Meanwhile Amazon turnover is through the roof because that's where folks are shopping. Support local business.

Mate that’s shocking by the council thanks for the information
Lockdown didn't help. Funny how the locally owned shops had to close while the corporate giants got to stay open.
