Easily the funniest comment about Jenny yet. I just pictured it in my head. That bloke putting Jenny in the locker, then turning to Peter while he explains the locking mechanism. Next thing he knows he's looking down the line of dragons and Jenny is already in her seat saying "I'm out".
He’s actually doing really well. Ive seen his bike lock ups in quite a few council estates around London. He found his audience, the council and real estate
I'm Jenny Campbell and I'd like to invest in your business. I'll offer you the full amount for 6% of the company. 5 months later: The business is going well and Jenny has landed a successful investment. HOORAY!
He seems like a genuinely well intended guy but his lack of knowledge of the business side really stumped him here, but as I read further down the comments I see that he succeeded and I'm happy for him
I think he's doing quite well. He wasn't doing to bad before he entered the den and even though he didn't get any takers, this was very good advertising for him.
@@Yakanhikoerotikkushiti The math was correct though. He has a company he values to 600k, if a dragon were to enter the COMPANY with 600k more, that's now a 1.2 million company as it has 600k in cash on top of the pre investment value. If a dragon would pay him, personally, 600k for half the business, THEN it would be valued pre investment at 1.2 million. But it isnt, the money is going into the company, thereby raising the value of the company immidiatly afterwards, but not before.
Hypno Toad agreed, they have to put on a stern figure because they’re DRAGONS man they’re the top dogs but it’s always good to see them show some heart and care which we all know they have 👌🏻
When he basically said his product was revolutionary, I thought he meant something truly outstanding, like a device that could hypnotise Jenny into making someone an offer for a change.
He was correct! He values the company at 600k and he owns 100%, he would relinquish 50% of the his share to get an equal 600k therefore the value then becomes 1.2million!
The entrepreneur is right about his valuation. He values it at £600k before the investment ("pre-money"). The dragon puts in £600k. So now the total is worth £1.2M ("post-money") of which the dragon owns 50%. If the entrepreneur where to sell his 50% of the business for £600k and be able to put that money on his personal bank account (rather than invest back into the business) that would be a different story, but that's not the case here. The dragon immediately owns 50% again of whatever they invest. Surely the dragons know the difference between pre-money and post-money valuation, but I believe Dragon's Den's rules don't allow discussing this to keep things simple for the audience. I'm not sure why they chose to air this. It makes all involved seem clueless.
Yeah that's what I thought too. Scrolled through the comments to see if someone mentioned it. If they're not allowed to mention it I guess that explains why the whole thing sounds so ridiculous.
The wording they use makes it confusing, like they'll often say "you want me to give *you* £x amount for x% share", but they aren't giving it to the person in return for part of the company - they are investing that money into a business they will also own part of.
I swear I saw these bike lockers at the coach station in Plymouth. Wonder if they are the exact same product. I think it's a brilliant idea to be honest.
@@jonburkitt4152 We had a big cage, with basic bike wheel racks. Security was up to you! This is one of the best episode of Dragon’s Den that I’ve seen. He seemed like a great guy and all the dragons understood he was harmless. I just can’t believe he didn’t understand how to value his business? 😂
I understand how he got his numbers. The Dragon's money wouldn't go to him, it would go into the company. If his company is worth 600K, then his company with an additional 600K in cash would be worth 1.2 million. However, I think he mainly wanted the exposure.

The program's format limit them to not be able to invest anything under what they asked for. If the guy went for 100k they could have negotiated up. I imagine Touker can just call him up day later and say they got a deal at much more reasonable price.
I just discovered these videos and I'm genuinely happy that every comment is about Jenny. I've probably watched 80 clips and she is like a stale heel of bread.

This is also my concern about the valuations. Because when investors pay the 600k, they would own 50% of the company that is worth 600k. But their investment does not go to his pocket but to the company in which after investment should be valued at 1.2M. So if now the investor owns 50%, it's equal to 600k. It's different when an investor buys the whole company because the money would be in the owner's pocket and not reinvested in the company. So I think this guy has a point. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong.
I totally agree with you. Honestly I cannot understand why the dragons don't see this. Maybe they are trying to get themselves a deal. Company is worth 1.2mil, they give the guy 600k for him and can have 50% of the company - no problem. However company is worth 600k, they add 600k of assets to the company, the company is now worth 1.2mil and they own 50% as they own 50% of the assets. I'm sure I saw an episode when the dragon said 'I'm paying 60k for my 20% meaning your 80% is worth 240k' which totally contradicts what deborah is saying here.
The Dragons are so inconsistent 😂 Some poor bloke that's nervous forgets his figures.... torn to shreds! Lunatic wanting money that has no idea what the f**k he's doing.... walks out with everyone having a lovely chuckle 😂😂 You can't tell me the rich aren't just as nuts 🤦♂️
This was one of those episodes where I sensed they were lying and really just trying to be nice so he'd leave. Wishing him well, saying he has passion and knowledge in the field, etc... Even if he'd asked for less I doubt they'd have given it to him. Especially after the valuation talk-over fiasco.
Yeah. Real shame because these lockers are everywhere now. He didn't need their help after all, but i bet it would have made his life easier. If only he'd had a plan for the money, i think they'd have gone for it.
He's quite successful. The company is worth £1.1 million now. It has no borrowings and £700k in working capital. When he said he didn't need the money he wasn't lying.
I'm actually on Jason's side on this one. The Dragons value the business solely based on profit neglecting Jason's $600k contribution. Jason gets confused where he says it's only valued at $600k- despite selling 50% for $600k making the business worth $1.2m. A $600k business that has an additional $600k in the bank is worth $1.2m, not $600k. I don't think it's that complicated.
You are right. He is talking about pre money valuation and they are talking about post money valuation. I’m amazed the dragons don’t seem to understand the difference.
Guy is completely correct about the value of his business. The Dragons are confusing buying with investing. The money is going into the business, not into this guy's pocket. So by investing £600,000 you increase the value of the business by £600,000, i.e. with the investment the business is worth £1,200,000, so without investment the business is worth £600,000 less, i.e. £600,000. The fact the voice-over guy said this guy is wrong is the most frustrating part.
that noise he made at 7:53 he sounded like an owl. that whole exchange he had with jenny was too funny bear in mind we all knew she was out anyways lol
He's absolutely bang on with the valuation. Even Peter pointed that out that same thing to one of the other dragons in another clip on RUclips. If a dragon were to buy a half lf his company and the entrepreneur would just keep the money, then yeah, the business is valued at 1.2 million. But the 600K is his to invest to the company, bringing up the company's value by that amount.
yep, he's completely right. Deborah/the Dragons are confusing buying with investing. The money they invest is going straight back into the business, so by investing they increase the businesses value, something they're not considering.
@@akaakaakaak5779 His Current Value is not 1.2 million, he said himself his evaluation is for 500K with extra 100K put in by him, so how can he ask the dragon's to make a 600K investment for 50%?? Please help me to understand?
@@akaakaakaak5779 I had some grammatical errors there, but I hope you can help me understand now that I've edited. How does what this guy says make sense?
Tyson Bond The dragon's interpretation of valuation is the valuation AFTER they've invested and added £600k to the business. Before that investment, he values it at £600k. He made sense
I don’t think it was quite fair what the Dragons did to the Businessman. If a company is worth 600.000 you can buy it for 600.000 but then the money doesn’t go into the company. If the money goes in the company, then the company after the investment is worth what it was before plus the investment. That is just common sense
@@Pekz00r NO a valuation for a business is not just based on how much equity it has but many more things including projected sales, retention rates, company expansion etc. Someone can have a business running at a loss and still value it at a million $ business they just have to prove to an investor why they think that is 👌
@@dazz_in_the_now yes, of course. But that is a different discussion. They said he was wrong on how he calculated the post money valuation based on his pre-money valuation. If someone else would value the business to 600k is another discussion. His only major error was that he asked for too much money and didn't have a clear idea of what he needed all that money for.
He was actually making perfect sense. The 600K goes into the company (rather than his pocket) Your 600K buys you 300K cash sitting in the company plus 50% of the company excluding the bank-account. How did noone understand him.
He's right and the dragons are wrong!. If a company is worth 600K before a cash injection of 600K, then it's worth 1.2M after the injection. So they should get 50% exactly as he said.
50k for even 20% or 30% is a horrible joke i.e. a bad deal, absolute peanuts, for the inventor, Jason. Walk and look for private investors and business development professionals.

This was one of those episodes where I sensed they were lying and really just trying to be nice so he'd leave. Wishing him well, saying he has passion and knowledge in the field, etc...
Even if he'd asked for less I doubt they'd have given it to him. Especially after the valuation talk-over fiasco.
Not a great look when the person you’re negotiating with has no plans for the money, and can’t do basic math 😂
I know everyone here is talking about Jenny, but can we all take time to appreciate Deborah. I acc love her 😂
Doctor--Congratulations you've just had a baby girl, what do you want to call her?
Parents - Jenny
Jenny-for that reason I'm out.
How could he not understand.... she explained it so clearly
Jenny and this bloke would make a great couple.
Debby.
Oh. My. God.
He owes his life to her good humour.
The sad truth is that I understand what this guy was trying to explain to them
yep, he's completely right.
Tyson Bond I have no idea what you’re trying to say...
Jenny: "my name is Jenny, therefore I'm out".
Copying jokes yea
@Zero 01 lol
With a crowbar it will take less than 1 minute to get into that locker... sheet-metal have no chance.
Jason: I am making sense aren't I?
Everyone: no, actually, no.
Jenny: "I'm out"
Entrepreneur presses lift call button on the ground floor whilst VT explains how passionate he is.
the dude actually looks and sounds like he throw everything out the pram :D what a funny guy
“Did you just call me Debbie?”
*Apologizes to Peter*
We have them now at my college !!!
I don’t think it was quite fair what the Dragons did to the Businessman.
If a company is worth 600.000 you can buy it for 600.000 but then the money doesn’t go into the company. If the money goes in the company, then the company after the investment is worth what it was before plus the investment. That is just common sense
Exactly! It's the dragons who need to learn how to count, not him.
600,000 to own half of the company means the companies valuation is 1.2M
@@dazz_in_the_now yes, but only AFTER the investor has put 600k in company account.
Jenny: I'm out and for that reason I'm out and I'm out
He was actually making perfect sense. The 600K goes into the company (rather than his pocket) Your 600K buys you 300K cash sitting in the company plus 50% of the company excluding the bank-account. How did noone understand him.
That was a close shave for Jenny lucky she got out when she did
If Jenny was on a foot, she'd be saying 'I'm gout'
The guy: "I don't need money"
Jenny: "I'm in"
**10 mins later**
Jenny: "I'm out"
He's right and the dragons are wrong!. If a company is worth 600K before a cash injection of 600K, then it's worth 1.2M after the injection. So they should get 50% exactly as he said.
"You called Debra Debbie and for that reason I'm out".
If I had a dollar for every time someone has said the product will sell itself I would be sitting in the dragon den myself.
50k for even 20% or 30% is a horrible joke i.e. a bad deal, absolute peanuts, for the inventor, Jason. Walk and look for private investors and business development professionals.
Very apt that the title "I don't need money I need help" has a picture of Jenny Campbell accompanying it
He sold 300K in 1 year...Why would the company not have a 1.2 million dollar value?
He has sold 10K units! Something is wrong here,
He sold 10.000 in 18 years!
its please dont call me debbie ep i have seen that on bbc 2 a while back
Entrepreneurr: comes up with idea
Jenny: I’m out
The look on Deborahs face when Jenny is talking 'Yeah we all know where this is going....'
