Even with this brief history of Europe, as a Pole i must say that A) when showing all brutal and often religious wars between western countries, but, at the same time not showing the longest and peaceful union between two countries enjoying religious freedoms and rights - Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth - that created the largest and strongest country in Europe for the next 250 years and treating it as there was nothing there... it's a bum. B) Plus not showing the first modern European constitution - The Polish Constitution of 3 May 1791 is a bum (vid claims the French Constitution is the first, what is not true). C) Also, not mentioning A SINGLE word about the Polish-Soviet War of 1920 when Poles (against almost ENTIRE EUROPE) stopped the spread of Communism to Europe... and especially the Battle of Warsaw won decisively by Poles, which is assumed as one of the most important battles of all the times while spending several minutes on Spanish Fascism War - is a huge bum on the side of the creators of this vid. D) But probably the biggest bum of them all, since it's the closest to date, is claiming that only Germany invaded Poland during the 2WW completely forgetting about Ribbentrop-Molotov pact between Germany and Soviet Union and not saying a single word about the fact Soviet union attacked Poland 17 days after the Germany fulfilling it's obligation to Nazism.
PS. Not to say completely anything about Solidarity Movement in Poland that sparked the fall of the Berlin Wall... is just another example.

Marathon was in Attica, not Makedonia. The lambda was the symbol of Sparta not Athens and you placed Athens where Argos more or less was, also Corith did not belong to Athens. It was a city-state like Sparta and Athens. Sulla did not kill Marius, actually the entire history of Sulla is wrong and poorly told. Julius Caesar was Pontifex Maximus before Sulla took control of the Senate. He was dismissed by the same and fled Rome. The office of Pontifex Maximus remained empty till Julius Caesar apointed his grand-nephew and lated adopted son Gaius Octavius, later to be known as Caesar Augustus. Julius Caesar was governor of Cisalpine Gaul before the invasion. Wow wow WOW!!!! Caesar was never emperor, NEVER. Like Sulla before him he was elected Dictator for life. Dude, Octavian did no kill Mark Antony. Mark Antony killed himself in Alexandria and a few time later Cleopatra did the same. Caesar Augustus was only declared emperor after his death. He was First CItizen, or Princeps. Dude, the British ISLES are not a peninsula and Claudius nor any other roman empreror or general conquered the entirety of it. Surely never Ireland or Alba (Scotland). The map of the Roman EMpire under Trajan is WRONG. Hadrian did not built the Roman Pantheon, he build Hadrian's Mausoleum, today's Castel Sant'angelo where you can see the structure of Hadrian's Mausoleum. Belisarius conquered all of the Italian Peninsula, north Africa and south Iberia. "Byzantine" is a modern term, it was still called Roman Empire. No no no no. The Visigothic Kingdom map is all wrong. Charlemagne was named Emperor of the Romans and he was never Emperor of the HRE, that state only formed centuries later. NO NO NO NOOOOO. Louis the Pious kept the Germanic tradition of dividing the empire amongst his children. Charlemagne did not do it because Louis was is only surviving son, so, when Louis died he divided the empire between his sons, West Frankia would generate France, East Frankia the HRE and Middle Frankia which was given to his eldest son and encompassed the two Imperial Capitals (Rome and Aachen) was conquered and divided by his brothers and nephews. Seriously, there were pagan kindmos in italy during the time of Otto the fist? And I finish the video.
Seriously, it's a wonderful effort to tell the tales of Humanity, but please, study them before you spread false information. Thank you

Obviously. Kind of a videogame timeline version... depicting clipart armies full of buff weightlifters in shiny helmets where only one tribal civilization exists at a time. Lucky the photographer was on hand to capture the birth of Socrates... and video from the Iron Age forges. Ha !
But I like seeing the names of various groups pop up on the map. Getting flashbacks on the maps from grade school textbooks with a somewhat different emphasis.
Whatever Europe is, it's not a continent. Does anyone know when people on this land mass and surrounding islands started giving it that name? What century? People? Language? Europa?
It's easy to be flippant about this ambitious condensation, but picking up elective courses in a liberal arts college probably wouldn't leave most students with a more detailed takeaway on "Western Civilization" and I'd be no exception.
Yet my hackles go up at the suggestion that social hierarchy is the "crux" of European civilization. Not the crux of civilization in China? Or India? Or in the empires of the pre-Columbian Americas?
So I am glad I was through with academe before Cultural Marxism really took hold.
Even so, there's nothing like a 2-hour RUclips course to suggest how much one does not begin to know.

Scandinavia logs in too, wondering what continent we belong to as Europe was raided by the Vikings? and for the first time being given a permanent home?? Our ancient families did most things right - having the correct genetics (moving both ways), and speaking indo-european/proto-germanic languages to this day. Sure, most of us live on the Fennoscandian plate, but that is considered to be a part of the European continent both in geoscience, archaeology, history and social sciences and any academic endeavour.
The UK and Norway both lost 2/3 of their total population (peak levels in Europe) and are not even included in the Black Death of "Europe" it seems, even though we were both hit hard from being such important shipping/trade-hubs in Europe.
I do not think we are ready for an American revision of European history just yet, as some of them seem to think that Jesus lived in the US which is a bolder claim than even the Catholic church made during their heydays of selling millions of pieces of wood claimed to be taken from his cross some 1500 years earlier. It is good that European kids learn that history is less than linear and often quite foggy and interwoven.

    • @Trip4man
      @Trip4man 10 месяцев назад

@@italok6577 LOL Yeah... Portugal discovered the Americas (South America is mainly Portuguese fyi), confirmed that the planet was round rather than flat, sailed across the globe... Which btw some voyages would be the similar to make a trip to Mars.... And was one of the Empires that had HALF of the world along side with the Spanish that had another half (similar to the East and West Roman Empire but on a planetary scale). And btw the Spanish, French and Dutch tried their best to steal our colonies and resources with their asses handed over to them every time. If we are boring and uninteresting... Why do they wanted our stuff???? We're similar to the English Empire with a FRACTION of their population. And where do German, Nordic and Slavic countries fit into that??? They don't. Even the Vikings tried to have a piece and they failed running with their tails between their legs. We have more people and land than Germans, Spanish, Nordic and Slavic people. Russia has 143 million people for example, Brazil has 214 million people. They do have the biggest country though, it's a good thing I guess. And 214 million people almost equals to the most populated countries of Europe COMBINED. One could say it's another Europe altogether LOL So please... Shut up

The Jacobite war was not about independence for Scotland, there were Jacobites all over the UK. It was a British civil war. Those who wanted to restore the Stuarts to the throne (complicated because it also became about religion) and those who didn’t… most of the big battles were Scottish soldiers in the British army vs Scottish soldiers in the Jacobite armies. It was common at the time for aristocrats to make one son support one side and another to support the other because they weren’t sure who was going to win. Charles wanted the British throne! Yes he had more support in Scotland so he thought he’d start there, but he saw himself as the rightful king of the United Kingdom.

I'm only going to comment about the part of the Ottoman invasion into the Mediterranean. They did not gain complete control of the Mediterranean. Not for lack of trying though. They tried to invade Malta in 1565 but failed. The Ottomans attacked Malta with a 40,000 strong army. The Maltese defended their islands with just 700 knights of the Order of St John and around 8000 islanders consisting mostly of farmers and untrained people. And hence, the Great Siege of Malta. It was a very important point in stopping the Ottoman reach into Europe. Pity it wasn't even mentioned.
Edit: might I also add that Europe is so old that 2 hours doesn't do it justice. You should expand and take your time in more videos.

Portugal that kickstarted the age of discoveries, the first European country to connect all continents by see and so on and on. Did good things and Bad, but Europe is what is today much in part of what the Portuguese and Spanish did also and he practically says nathing! If the Portuguese didn't won the Battle of DIO, Europe It would be on this day completely different, this said by real historians btw. Battle of Dio is considered one of the most important battles of our (European) time!

    1. The Siege of Constantinople ( 717-718) where the cavary of the Bulgarian empire and the Byzantine forces demolish the arabs resulting in the loss of around 200 000 arab warriors and after that they conquer Spain.
    2. The Battle of Adrianople where the forces of the Latin empire ( mostly crusades ) were defeated by the Bulgarian military
And if someone is interested in massive medieval battles can read about the Battle of Achelous ( 917 ), depending on the source the total number of soldiers participating in this battle is between 120 000 to 180 000.

but overall i really really enjoyed watching, remebering and putting stories i head in to temporal context. i can recommend watching thit to get an overview about the european story.

Already made my point. There are plenty of educational youtubers who do this correctly and are equally. If not more successful, so your point does not hold water. Other than in your brain.
I listed off numerous examples of how this is not done by anybody talking about history. The fact that somebody is doing. It shows that they don't really understand history or the study of it. It was constructive criticism correcting somebody else's complaint, Which was not constructive because it was incorrect.
You act like I said that. I expect him to explain where these names came from etc et cetera. Etc, it was not called Turkey. It did not have the same borders. This jerky, it did not have the same people in it. Turks were not there, So, are you the creator of this video? Are you a paid public relation person for the creator of the video like? What are you talking about? Defending his incorrect statements to such a degree. As you are acting like you can't be successful. If you x say this is Anatolia, what is modern day? Turkey would confuse and scare away. General audiences like, how dumb could you possibly be? Again, there are plenty of educational youtubers putting out s*** for a general audience who do this correctly.
