Incredible how Portugal, the one that kickstarted the Age of Exploration (and became the first ever true global Empire with land in all 5 continents) seem to not exist or even be part of the Iberian Peninsula!
Scandinavia logs in too, wondering what continent we belong to as Europe was raided by the Vikings? and for the first time being given a permanent home?? Our ancient families did most things right - having the correct genetics (moving both ways), and speaking indo-european/proto-germanic languages to this day. Sure, most of us live on the Fennoscandian plate, but that is considered to be a part of the European continent both in geoscience, archaeology, history and social sciences and any academic endeavour. The UK and Norway both lost 2/3 of their total population (peak levels in Europe) and are not even included in the Black Death of "Europe" it seems, even though we were both hit hard from being such important shipping/trade-hubs in Europe. I do not think we are ready for an American revision of European history just yet, as some of them seem to think that Jesus lived in the US which is a bolder claim than even the Catholic church made during their heydays of selling millions of pieces of wood claimed to be taken from his cross some 1500 years earlier. It is good that European kids learn that history is less than linear and often quite foggy and interwoven.
Portugal is just boring and uninteresting when you compare its history to other countries and kingdoms like German, English, Spanish, Slavic and nordic Countries
@@italok6577 LOL Yeah... Portugal discovered the Americas (South America is mainly Portuguese fyi), confirmed that the planet was round rather than flat, sailed across the globe... Which btw some voyages would be the similar to make a trip to Mars.... And was one of the Empires that had HALF of the world along side with the Spanish that had another half (similar to the East and West Roman Empire but on a planetary scale). And btw the Spanish, French and Dutch tried their best to steal our colonies and resources with their asses handed over to them every time. If we are boring and uninteresting... Why do they wanted our stuff???? We're similar to the English Empire with a FRACTION of their population. And where do German, Nordic and Slavic countries fit into that??? They don't. Even the Vikings tried to have a piece and they failed running with their tails between their legs. We have more people and land than Germans, Spanish, Nordic and Slavic people. The Jacobite war was not about independence for Scotland, there were Jacobites all over the UK. It was a British civil war. Those who wanted to restore the Stuarts to the throne (complicated because it also became about religion) and those who didn’t… most of the big battles were Scottish soldiers in the British army vs Scottish soldiers in the Jacobite armies. It was common at the time for aristocrats to make one son support one side and another to support the other because they weren’t sure who was going to win. Charles wanted the British throne! Yes he had more support in Scotland so he thought he’d start there, but he saw himself as the rightful king of the United Kingdom.
Although this was fascinating, and educational, it could have been more thorough... The emphasis on the major highlights of Western Europe's history, is all too obvious... What about Eastern Europe? Hungary, Bulgaria, etc. What about the Basques? Romani people? ( who have been in Europe for centuries) Lapps, etc. England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, are NOT all of Europe! Though unfortunately, some present it as such.
Bulgaria has played a massive role in European history. Much more significant than England or France in the same time period. The video is quite boring and filled with too many unimportant facts.

I'm only going to comment about the part of the Ottoman invasion into the Mediterranean. They did not gain complete control of the Mediterranean. Not for lack of trying though. They tried to invade Malta in 1565 but failed. The Ottomans attacked Malta with a 40,000 strong army. The Maltese defended their islands with just 700 knights of the Order of St John and around 8000 islanders consisting mostly of farmers and untrained people. And hence, the Great Siege of Malta. It was a very important point in stopping the Ottoman reach into Europe. Pity it wasn't even mentioned. Edit: might I also add that Europe is so old that 2 hours doesn't do it justice. You should expand and take your time in more videos.

Well I'll write 2 things that were not mentioned that have heavy impact on the History of Europe. 1. The Siege of Constantinople ( 717-718) where the cavary of the Bulgarian empire and the Byzantine forces demolish the arabs resulting in the loss of around 200 000 arab warriors and after that they conquer Spain. 2. The Battle of Adrianople where the forces of the Latin empire ( mostly crusades ) were defeated by the Bulgarian military And if someone is interested in massive medieval battles can read about the Battle of Achelous ( 917 ), depending on the source the total number of soldiers participating in this battle is between 120 000 to 180 000.
overall i really liked watching this it was great to get an overview and a mostly accurate timeline to get informations about the european story. i had some issues to the usage of some pictures that really didnt fit the content of the narrator. also to clarify germany didnt fight austria in the seven year war, it was perssia what it not the same. there really is a big diffrence between germnay and perssia. also the russian revolution is after the great war/ world war one. but overall i really really enjoyed watching, remebering and putting stories i head in to temporal context. i can recommend watching thit to get an overview about the european story.
If I’d asked for a summary from a 12 year old, I’d say decent effort. But let’s be honest, it’s all over the place, and terribly researched. I would suggest this creator focuses on smaller periods about which he can learn in detail.
It is not modern-day Serbia, it is modern-day Albania, George Kastrioti was Arberesh (Albania modern days), not a Serbian, which leaves too many doubts about the whole documentary
Naoleon as the video points out had many positive attributes. But what is not pointed out is his penchant for one-man personal rule, basically an absolute monarchy.
Oh thank you so much for making it simple. My mum and dad would discuss random aspects of history in depth, quite impressive considering neither were intellectuals. My brain ain't great so it would be fabulous to see the year along with the age title. The way this is organised makes me wonder if it's an AI programme?
When saying the century. It's best to include BC and AD. Troy was definitely not 12th and 13th AD... Don't expect the audience to just know these things...

Incredible how Portugal, the one that kickstarted the Age of Exploration (and became the first ever true global Empire with land in all 5 continents) seem to not exist or even be part of the Iberian Peninsula!
It's so typical of Mérica ""historians"". 🤷♂️
Russia has 143 million people for example, Brazil has 214 million people. They do have the biggest country though, it's a good thing I guess. And 214 million people almost equals to the most populated countries of Europe COMBINED. One could say it's another Europe altogether LOL So please... Shut up
I would argue that Spain was the first global empire. Portugal always played second fiddle to Spain.
Many scenes from the game Assassin's Creed Odyssey, good game too, very accurate according to historians.

This history documentary is a gem!
Dont worry Alan...who ever was making this "documentary" has nothing to do with history and facts.
You are spot on
You are on point.
@29:11 - No.... Julius Caesar was never emperor. Octavian was the first emperor.
This video is fun but it doesnt even seem to consider slavs Europeans which is pretty annoying. When he said "the Mongols held no power over any Europeans" I knew that this was the case because the Mongols ruled over Russia for 2 centuries

The Crusades MARKEDLY reduced islamic territory. Thus successful on the whole.
2. The Battle of Adrianople where the forces of the Latin empire ( mostly crusades ) were defeated by the Bulgarian military
And if someone is interested in massive medieval battles can read about the Battle of Achelous ( 917 ), depending on the source the total number of soldiers participating in this battle is between 120 000 to 180 000.
