Never knew they covered this classic Weezer song. They look like they enjoyed that outro there.
Their cover is one of the best of this song. They were also one of the few bands to cover the 2nd half of the song too. So many covers of just the first 4 minutes.

Guys I recommend you to listen to Asian Kung-fu Generation's (J-rock band) rendition to this song, it is amazing and they play with the former bassist from Weezer (Matt Sharp) :)

There's just something about this video that takes you to a wholly different place that feels more like home than the time and place I live in now.
And it's not really about Ash, Weezer, and it's for sure not about Boxed Set.
This video contains a kind of cultural umami, an intangable and unexplainable quality to it, that is able to so tangibly and fully convey something deeper than the bare video itself.

@@8Seven65 Yup, they're from North Ireland! My favourite album of theirs is their first album, 1977. I'm still going through the rest of their stuff.
I saw Ash play in the Castle Mall in Norwich around this time - they played this at the end of their set. I had a Weezer t-shirt on and at the signing afterwards Mark wrote 'Weezer Kick Ass' and drew the =w= in my copy of Angel Interceptor. Such a great memory
good job. tough song to pull off. high degree of difficulty in that long guitar passage, very intricate interplay of the two instruments in that long, gradual build. makes me emotional that song. great job

@@themamat In a 2001 BBC session, Ash covered "Only in Dreams", and released the recording as a B-side to the single "Burn Baby Burn". During the 2001-2002 world tour supporting Free All Angels, the band would perform the song almost nightly, and a live version is found on the DVD Tokyo Blitz.

@@thevoid99 When I saw them 3 years ago they played 8/10 of the Blue Album and minimal songs from the past 15 years. Their live show is still great.

Apparently when he was younger the G string would always break, but bass strings are only sold in packs of 4, so he just left it like that.

I do like how they tried to make it their own though. Like they didn't do a carbon copy of the Weezer version which would be pointless.
It's almost like they played it from memory without referencing the recording... which is generally the best way to cover something and make it sound like your own. Pretend it's just your song.
They had speed up issues in the chorus which is probably why it feels like it does not flow I agree

@@saucywalnutz I guess it's all about context. Weezer has two really good records and a bunch of great B-sides. Everything else is throwaway. Ash is cool, but I haven't listened to all of their music. I would put the Blue album against Ash's entire catalogue, sight unseen. But that's me. I'm also probably a lot older than most of Ash's fan base since I bought the Blue album new and saw =w= in concert in the 90s more times than I can remember.
