When I lived in Tokyo, I ate convenience store food almost daily! Great little bento boxes, steamed filled savory meat & vegetable buns, onigiri, etc. Lol fast, healthy, and tasty.
If I had something to offer the Japanese people I would there in a heartbeat, what an amazing place. That system with the little sushi monorail is so awesome, and the Japanese 7-11 is light years ahead of ours. Modern Japan and its' people are a model of how humanity should be, free, yet disciplined, and happy too. I wish I could afford to go there just once, just once.
Thank you Gareth, for sharing your food experience in Japan! It's an excellent video. I chose this video to show to my English students in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), we are talking about experiences in our class. I have tried Japanese food but not in Japan, but I do agree with you that Bangkok and Istanbul has some of the best food in the world. I lived in both cities and thoroughly enjoyed the culture and the food. I am an English teacher and over the past 22 years I have worked in 6 countries: Singapore, Malaysia, China, Kazakhstan, the country of Georgia and Turkey and now my 7th country, Mongolia. Hope you keep travelling and keep sharing your videos!
Omg I love every single one of them! They all look so delicious! Even the food sold in convenience stores looked ridiculously delicious to me! Awesome video
Thanks for sharing! I’m in for trying anything new. Had a short stopover on one of my military excursions and stopped in a market where everyone was eating Udon soups and they were so delicious. Had three one year tours in Korea and the food there is just as fascinating; often I had no clue what I was eating but never found myself to be disappointed by any of these adventures with food.
This video really helped. My wife and I are going to Tokyo for the first time this March . We are really excited and will visit these places while there. Thanks for the vid everything looks good!
I went to that conveyor belt Sushi in Shibuya in 2017 end of September. It's around the same time you uploaded this video. We came upon it while walking in Shibuya. There were people (mostly locals) lined up all the way to the outside waiting their turn. When you see locals waiting to enter a restaurant then don't miss the opportunity. The sushi was delicious but the most fun part was the experience. Affordable prices too. Oh yes! The convenience store food is awesome. I've never seen such a elaborate meals from 7 Eleven.
This video is awesome!! I'd say that the real food culture today in Japan is introduced through this video. Actually, I'm Japanese and also a volunteer guide for tourists from abroad to Tokyo. This video helps me to learn what they like and what they are interested in . Thanks.
THANK YOU for this Video! When i lived and worked in Japan, a couple of co-workers took me to a place where they made Okonomiyaki, sort of a Japanese pancake or omelet. You sat down at a table with a heated griddle on top. You placed your order for your ingredients - Beef, chicken, pork, squid, octopus, etc or you could go with mixed vegetables. You each received a bowl with your ingredients in a batter which you then cooked on the griddle. There was oil provided as well as powdered Nori (seaweed) and bonito flakes to sprinkle on top. It was very tasty but the communal style cooking and eating was what made it so much fun!
I 'm very glad you introduce not only foods but culture in Tokyo. You could also go eat to Kansai (Osaka,Kyoto,Nara). Because Kansai has a much longer history. It's been the capital of Japan for 1000 years before Edo(Tokyo) period. There are variety of dishes, from deluxe one to Class B gourmet. Talking about Ramen, you should really go to Kyushu for Tonkotsu , using pig bones soup stock.
I really missed all those fantastic washoku. I used to drive all over Tokyo for their variety of tasty eateries. My favorite washoku to eat for breakfast are raw egg, natto, and rice. Thank you for sharing your awesome videos. Honto ni domo arigattogozaimasu Leonard san. Gambatte kudasai.
I was pleasantly surprized at the conveyor belt sushi when I was in Tokyo. I didn't expect to have quality, fresh and delicious sushi there and the food at 7-11 was tasty as well. Thanks for transporting me back to Japan via this video.
Man that ramen looks out of control, I’d travel there just for that! Love the 7/11 peek too, those are one of my favorite spots to check out while traveling
I saw your video 2 years ago that year i missed my flight did not have a visa. now getting my Visa found u again after 100s people I subscribed , Inaka is the one brought to my memory cant wait. Thanks for the videos and keep the good work. Peace!
Just found your channel and watching this I completely forgot I had something in the oven! Still partly edible but the baking dish is going to be a major clean-up undertaking! I was surprised to see the yakitori bar looking almost identical to one in my town, including the stairs and the narrowness. Will have to wait a week before paying it a visit, but seeing all these great restaurants is just mouth-watering! Thanks for sharing the experience!
Thanks for your vids, inwould never have the chance to sample these so it's cool to watch someone else enjoy it so much, thanks again for the experience.
I'm an adult Japanese, but I don't like Otoro (fatty-tuna) that much in Sushi. Because it is too bloody for me. Thought it's thought to be the most luxurious topping of Sushi.
My personal favorite at 7-11/Lawson would be the fried chicken strips, also Japan's rice & noodle are unbeatable even comparing with my hometown Taiwan. But anyway, great video and keep up the good work!

Everything looks so yummy. People always think about French food as the peak of culinary, but I think from what I've just seen that Japanese food looks so aesthetic and tasty. I would love to taste the ramen and the Sushi bar. Amazing!
I love food so much that I couldn't pick just one type of cuisine, but Japanese is most definitely at the top of my list... along with Mexican, Indian, Thai, French, Italian, Mediterranean, oh man! 😃
I've been in japan 4x and this is my 2nd home,i love the place, the food, the weather, the culture and the people of japan ❤. I want to go there again for travel 😍
Hello. I wish I could visit your beautiful land, specially Hokkaido island. Would love watching the panorama and those monkeys that live in the snow! I want to share this with all Japanese people, so I am placing the message here. イエスは命のパン それ神はその獨子を賜ふほどに世を愛し給へり、すべて彼を信ずる者の亡びずして、永遠の生命を得んためなり。John 3:16.
My 10-year-old boy and I really enjoyed your video-awesomeness! My son found the sandwiches from 7-Eleven the best especially the strawberry and cream sandwich I think it blew his mind away. Loving it from the UK. 👍❤️
Well first off I want to say that all these places you shared w/ us look Amazing!! Japan is my next stop to the East I'm planning to visit in 9/2022!! Give this Covid-19 a chance to settle down!! I guess for me the convenient stores are my option!! Not a much of a seafood or ramen person!! But all the dishes look delicious!! Great Video Thanks 4 Sharing!! :) 🇺🇸👏🇺🇸
One thing I love is they have a look a like sample of what they serve so u have an idea of what u will order. N d best charcoal roasted huge chestnuts I have tasted in my life when I went to Osaka
Wow I would love to go to Tokyo Japan for vacation.. Well I have been in Tokyo but only in the airport I was couple hours lay over there when I was on my way to Philippines 🇵🇭 thank you much for your video really entertaining, 👍👍👍👍
5:00 I've always wanted to eat at those tiny restaurants that serve like one dish. I just love the environment and ambiance. If I ever open up a restaurant it would definitely be something like this.
Mate, followed your advice. Went to Inakaya Robata. Enjoyed the experience but was not expecting a 25,000 Yen bill for a small feed. Luckily I asked for the menu half way through ordering. Be warned for those who choose to visit a Robata without any knowledge on how expensive these restaurants can be. A single king prawn was 5,000 Yen or roughly $50 USD
The cost isn't for food itself, it's for the actual service...and the new tax for sitting in a restaurant. They don't allow tipping, they just put it into the price. Price for price it's cheaper to go to a higher end restaurant...better quality food, more food, relatively same price tag.
When I went to Japan last year -- for a sumo tournament, so I was staying in Ryogoku -- I didn't try Kirishima's place, because the still-active rikishi Aminishiki had two chanko restaurants of his own right nearby and I wanted to eat at one of them. He has a large place across from the train station, and a smaller place in the nearby yokocho. (Kirishima is a retired sumo wrestler now serving as a sumo "elder" under the name of Michinoku.) Rikishi don't actually eat there, though. If they want chanko, they can stay home and eat for free at the heya. But we did see a lot of rikishi eating at a Mongolian restaurant on the next block. Which wasn't too surprising, since many of the top sumo wrestlers are Mongolian these days, although some of the Eastern Europeans were there too.
Thanks Gareth, these are invaluable, we will be visiting Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Nara ...) the first time, may not have time to try them all, but would surely try.

This is an explanation remarks that nobody can answer for him....for he dislike the taste very much. It is the same like my late father who got his lunch prepared by my late sister and not my late mother...they all passed away already....and my father commented that her cooking taste like the ghost F**** and my mother got upset and asked him......have you taste one?
Ohh YESS! Tokyo is such a interesting, crazy, wild and beautiful place - thanks for taking me back there for a moment with your fascinating videos :):)
this video was great and amazing about japanese food...i love this country and i hoppe visit it as sooner as i can, and enjoy all ad especially the food ..... congrats amazing video...ñami
coming from a native Japanese.....that was a pretty good video actually. next time, I'd recommend a few other niche genres: unagi, tonkatsu, soba, izakaya, curry, etc. BTW, ramen pork bone broth is tonkOtsu, TonkAtsu is something entirely different fyi
alexsakon thank you so much for the recommendations, I definitely want to return and do a part 2! Also, thank you for the correction, I am still working on my Japanese pronunciation. 🤦🏻♂️
I don't think that tonkatsu has much to offer for someone from europe or the states... But I would definitely recommend going to a good tempura place, a good izakaya (like uokin for example) and a good kaiten sushi (genki sushi got pretty bad, try midori kaiten sushi, they are worlds apart). Udon is also a must eat. Oh, and go to a good tantanmen place. I'd recommend usagi ramen in shibuya.
Dimitris Sfounis it's called hentai manga. and yes they called it that. hentai manga have sex in them while ecchi manga show some boobs and mostly teasing not a full show
No interaction over a meal at the last place in Tokyo. Good food, good company and good conversation are what a great meal is all about. It reminds me of night clubs in Japan where people danced with themselves from a reflection in a mirror. The dance floor was like any other....except one or two walls were mirrors. Japanese patrons danced with their own reflections....not speaking a word.

One thing I love about Japanese culture is their work ethic. They always put absolutely 100% into what they're doing. Quality > quantity.
I completely agree, and it definitely shows in their food!
Its why the Trains are on time to the Second.
@@markplott4820 Not always. Errors happen everywhere, even in Japan;

What a great video. My oldest son lived in Tokyo for a minute. I feel he'd still be there had the military not made him move on.

Beautiful woman with a beautiful smile, I wish you all the best this year, how is the weather over there now
Ohh YESS! Tokyo is such a interesting, crazy, wild and beautiful place - thanks for taking me back there for a moment with your fascinating videos :):)

Mate, try the cream puff from 7-11! One of the best I've tasted, anywhere in the world!
Timothy Khoo I've had it and you are absolutely right!! I should have featured it at the end.
Your vid was great. I salivated just looking at the food your suggested. Keep up the good work!!!

@@GarethLeonard 😂
coming from a native Japanese.....that was a pretty good video actually. next time, I'd recommend a few other niche genres: unagi, tonkatsu, soba, izakaya, curry, etc. BTW, ramen pork bone broth is tonkOtsu, TonkAtsu is something entirely different fyi
alexsakon thank you so much for the recommendations, I definitely want to return and do a part 2! Also, thank you for the correction, I am still working on my Japanese pronunciation. 🤦🏻♂️
I literally just had japan style curry and rice a week ago, home made. And it is my new favorite food. Chicken curry not beef curry
I'd recommend usagi ramen in shibuya.
that dude at 3:39 straight looking at hentai in public XD
deza42 I know right
deza42 but y would the guy put it in the video
It's not hentai, it's a manga comic. Would you call a movie "porn" if it had a sex scene in it?
Dimitris Sfounis it's called hentai manga. and yes they called it that. hentai manga have sex in them while ecchi manga show some boobs and mostly teasing not a full show
no we don't lol just seijin comic that is. do you call any movie as porn if there is a naked scene of some girl.
Ramen soup is my favorite.
Me too William!
I still haven't gotten to try it. Love Taiwanese beef noodle soup, bun ba hue, and pho though so should
Its just Ramen, Noodles + Soup base.
Fantastic video. Exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks
That's not all clubs in Tokyo dummy, lmao. Typical American experiences 1 thing and thinks that's how the entire race of people are.
