I think worst part of Cody's reign so far is the little impact it has on WWE as whole. Roman's first feud as champ was with Jey and that set the tone for so many stories still being felt up to now. Cody's defenses just lack significance so far which is just hard to get behind when comparing to Romans's which I get isn't fair to compare.
I beg to differ...roman was not there to push his storylines and would let the rest of bloodline do the work. A week before the PPV, he would show up and attack or something. None of the stars really looked that great during and post the Roman loss.

While i get your point, Cody Rhodes in NOT a draw. Roman Reigns can literally elevate a mid carder and give us a 🔥 feud eg Jey Uso (before he became main Event Jey), Sami Zayn, Finn Balor. Cody on the other hand cannot do that. He's the guy that is carried in his feuds, not the guy that carries others. That's why after feuding with the biggest draw in Roman Reigns, he's struggling to maintain the same level fan engagement because the following opponents after Roman aren't on Roman's level.

One thing I've noticed when it comes to the Netflix deal, is that they're making an effort to make Raw the A show again, since it hasn't been that way for almost half a decade. And they're doing the complete opposite with Smackdown. To me, they've already got their deal from USA Network, so the complacency has already set in. They're not even trying to make Smackdown a must watch wrestling show anymore. Not only is it going to hurt Cody's reign, but the reigns with the lower tier belts. Just like how there's no opponents for the Undisputed WWE championship, you're going to run into the same issue with the US & Tag Team belts. The philosophy of "long term booking" doesn't work when there's virtually no opponents for fresh match ups. Raw doesn't have the same issues right now. Also, once the first episode of Raw on Netflix airs, you know for sure they want to load that show up with Rock, Cena & Punk etc to get the most amount of buzz as possible, it's going to leave Smackdown with nothing. I shouldn't have to wait for the big players to come back to care about Smackdown again, that's how you lose both the casual and even the hardcore audience.

My problem with Cody's booking with the tittle is that he doesn't make the title feel importnant. It's also very likely Roman lands on SmackDown due to this but... This is why I swear people were delusional thinking Roman was so overrated cuz SmackDown been ass. I think what would make his reign interesting. is if he plays off of the fact that he’s not as good as a champion as Roman and maybe someone he feud with can bring that up. He should defend the belt inside the royal rumble the number one with the championship on the line. I feel like if you want to make his more special, he can be the first person and win the rumble as champion or you can have him go through the whole rumble only to get eliminated by Randy Orton or The Rock. Not only you can tell a lot of stories with the belt on the line in the rumble. You can have John Cena in there to chase number 17. You can have Randy win and go onto face Cena or push the Cody and Randy match for mania. You can even have the rock and Cody wins the belt back at wrestlemania. That is what pisses me off about the draft. Raw always has to have a stacked roster while Smackdown gets bread crumbs, excluding maybe a few big names, shit be annoying.
The main problem to me is mostly that there isn't really any cohesive storyline for it, it's all matches with no real build up or anticipation, like yeah Cody vs AJ was a great match, but it didn't feel like the culmination of much. The closest we got was against Solo Sikoa, the thing is that there was no hype for it because Solo Sikoa has had one of the longest losing streak and they didn't try to give him a redemption arc before trying to frame him as THE major heel, as ssuch nobody bought it as he's just a glorified jobber. I have nothing against Cody, he's genuinely a great guy and I think his love for being where he is is really contagious, I'm just disappointed that creative has no real ideas for him it seems
While what you say might be true. Let's not forget that even RR was literally shoved down our throats in the initial days of the bloodline story . It took a lot of developing and time to actually make roman look like a champion. Lest not also forget , it's always easier for heels to go over than baby faces .
Roman's title reign was masked with the captivating bloodline story so he could get away with so many things traditional champions don't, having the same interference ending to matches, not being present for majority of his title reign... He had other people to tell his story for him even in his absence...Even now his return has been so well built by Paul and the Bloodline 2.0 though he has not showed up since mania..Not saying he is not brilliant on his own but he had so many advantages Cody doesn't. They just need to start booking Cody with more credible people; Gunther, Randy, Punk, Drew, Seth, Cena etc..All time feuds just begging to happen.

My problem with Cody's booking with the tittle is that he doesn't make the title feel importnant. His matches are great and the direction of where its going is okay BUT i feel like he could of had all those great matches without the tittle. Remember the motivation behind behind pass champions?
Roman Reigns- He believed keeping that tittle feeds his family.
Edge- He wanted to show he can be that guy and be the best
John Cena- He wanted to show a once nobody can climb the later and earn his way to the top.
Dave Batista- He was a arrogant a**hole who wanted to show he was that tough s.o.b and willing to run through anybody to get what he wants.
What do these guys have in common? They're willing to do everything to keep that belt. Heels will lie , cheat, and manipulate to keep that belt. And great Faces will put you through hell and punish you to keep that belt. That claim to want to be the best and do anything to keep it was great. With cody, i dont get that. It feels like he isnt trying hard for the championship but for the person who didnt hold it

What I mean is that there are literally many tag teams in the roster that you can perfectly count the challengers for the title but like I said, I'm a Cody fan but until Roman comes back, I'm sure they'll fix the title issues before they move to Netflix as well and yeah, it's just like you said, without worthy opponents even the brightest star can begin to dim

Keeping him involved with The Bloodline is the only thing that'll keep his reign engaging until the next draft honestly. The AJ feud seemed forced, the Logan Paul feud was random, and despite Solo getting a trial run and them experimenting with his potential it's the history between them and Cody and the fact that we've gotten so many additions to the roster due to this story like Jacob Fatu and the Tonga's. It's also very likely Roman lands on SmackDown due to this but... This is why I swear people were delusional thinking Roman was so overrated cuz SmackDown been ass. Cody needs a faction at the very least and it's not this RKO shit. He should have someone like Bron Breakerr who's also wrestling royalty

I think what would make his reign interesting. is if he plays off of the fact that he’s not as good as a champion as Roman and maybe someone he feud with can bring that up. He should defend the belt inside the royal rumble the number one with the championship on the line. I feel like if you want to make his more special, he can be the first person and win the rumble as champion or you can have him go through the whole rumble only to get eliminated by Randy Orton or The Rock. Not only you can tell a lot of stories with the belt on the line in the rumble. You can have John Cena in there to chase number 17. You can have Randy win and go onto face Cena or push the Cody and Randy match for mania. You can even have the rock and Cody wins the belt back at wrestlemania. That’s how I would book his reign to make it interesting. And if I wanted him to drop the belt, that would be the easiest way to protect him and reestablish him back up. He needs something interesting. he needs an edge like John Cena from 2006. He doesn’t need to go the full year as champ he can drop it in between

That is what pisses me off about the draft. Raw always has to have a stacked roster while Smackdown gets bread crumbs, excluding maybe a few big names, shit be annoying.

The main problem to me is mostly that there isn't really any cohesive storyline for it, it's all matches with no real build up or anticipation, like yeah Cody vs AJ was a great match, but it didn't feel like the culmination of much. The closest we got was against Solo Sikoa, the thing is that there was no hype for it because Solo Sikoa has had one of the longest losing streak and they didn't try to give him a redemption arc before trying to frame him as THE major heel, as ssuch nobody bought it as he's just a glorified jobber.
I have nothing against Cody, he's genuinely a great guy and I think his love for being where he is is really contagious, I'm just disappointed that creative has no real ideas for him it seems
