Val fucking Venis in 2010, a man who hadn't been relevant since the year 2000 and AJ Styles randomly turned heel to retain the world championship while becoming Mini Naitch Jr v2.0.
The Main Event Mafia era of 08-09 was not great all things considered but it finally lead to old guys stepping aside for the younger guys. Because Steiner, Jarrett and Sting benefit. Veterans benefit. It's the younger roster who suffer from the bad storylines, horrible roles and burials. Heyman puts on a great product but he was a bad manager and businessman behind the scenes. It's kind of a opposite with Bischoff. And they're not going to complain because it's their heroes and the numbers and paydays did shoot up for a while. Until it all came crashing down and by then it was too late.

TNA was never gonna reach wwe’s level of popularity or even surpass it even without hulk or Eric being there. It was just another niche company like ECW or Roh (really dedicated fan base with some good matches but nothing else to captivate the masses) and now look at TNA or Impact it’s barley hanging on in the industry.

Dixie Carter was the main problem as she was the one that was pushing for TNA to be WWE lite and cared about old wrestling big names rather than the best wrestling minds.
Hogan had only ever booked himself and that was with creative control or backstage politicking and Bischoff was still burnt out from WCW and was never a great booker outside of the one big storyline.

Honesty if they just let their roster develop without Hogan and Bischoff they would have done well. Aces and 8s were some of Bubbas best stuff, Perc Angle was the best wrestler in the world at the time, the X division was amazing, AJ Styles was in his prime and a ton of other support style wrestlers. But the egos of Hogan and Bischoff couldn’t be controlled and they were too expensive and ruined it

Even people who didn't watch TNA knew of Samoa Joe, Aj Styles, Abyss, and ofc Sting\Kurt angle were the established stars. It really was the better show for a short time. Wwe didn't improve. My stance on "prime" TNA: The notion that a 6 sided ring would confuse the audience as to whether or not the audience knew they were watching wrestling is literally one of the stupidest things I've ever heard about wrestling. It instantly gave them an identity and became synonymous with their branding. But then again, I didn't have to take bumps in it night in & night out, and I literally can't think of one TNA alumni who DIDN'T say that ring was both a pain in the ass for running the ropes, and yes, taking bumps: Wrestler's safety comes before fan enjoyment. I'm not sure why they didn't take a shot at building a "softer" version of the 6 sided ring, but it's clearly irrelevant by this point. Honestly, January 2010 TNA was sooooooooo awful that it was brilliant. From February on... Their cancer metastesized. I actually have tons of respect for Bischoff. His (deserved) nickname "ATM Eric" aside, nothing can erase the fact that he was at the helm of WCW's most creative & lucrative period and LEGITIMATELY came closer than anyone before or since at killing the pro wrestling version of King Kong. To paraphrase Birdman, put some "respeck" on his name.

2009 was TNA’s best year. Hiring Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff seemed good on paper but changing the ring back to four sides (which was bad enough as it made the company unique) and having them compete with RAW (even with WWE in a mediocre state at the time is still a bigger draw than any other wrestling company) before going back to Thursdays were huge signs that the company was never gonna be the same. By the time they remove the cancer and brought back the six sided ring the damage had been done. It’s amazing how TNA is still alive but I’m glad they’re still thriving.
