Playing Canon Rock at my sister's wedding

- Congrats again to my sister Ashley for her marriage to Benji!
So I only had about two weeks to learn this before the wedding, and I had to perform it in-front of about 150 people (I hadn't played to a crowd since high school back in 2013). I made A LOT of mistakes even though my practice runs were a bit better, but everyone seemed to enjoy the performance and that really helped with the nerves. Once I master it, I want to make a proper RUclips cover; those sweeps will be conquered.
This was filmed in Feb before the covid-19 virus reached Australia.

There have been a few questions and discussions about what version of Canon Rock this is, so here's the answer: The backing track that I played to was supplied by Jerry C from many years ago, and I based this performance off his original version. Of course I made my own adjustments here and there, but the bulk is based on Jerry C's video with some personal tweaking

Unless your a musician, I don't think you could understand how much it takes to learn a piece of music like that then practice, practice, practice, then nail it and then try and nail it again in front of a crowd and not let pressure or nerves get the better of you. You have my respect.

To play this on you tube is one thing. To play it with a difference on you tube is another. To play it live in front of a proper audience and not balls it up totally is epic. Deep respect.

I'd love to do a better quality youtube cover eventually, but all the support for this live performance has been really heart warming, so I'm not sure if it's warranted anymore :)

One of my friends asked me if I could play this song when she was getting married. I tried real hard to learn it, but after a month or two of practice I still couldn't get the first or second sweep picking part fast enough, and decided there was no way I was getting the whole song down in time for her wedding. Well done dude.
What a performance, we are so thrilled from the beginning, but the lady at the table realized only after few quick gobbles, if I was performing at that time I would wait till the end of her eating.

This is Sungha Jung's version. Though it may similar to original rock but those little adlibs he does is the marks that I always look for. You made it, bro. Congratulations to your sister and his husband and to you also. 🙂
This version is a take on Canon Rock by JerryC (original arranger of Canon Rock). Famous covers of Canon Rock have been Funtwo and Sungha Jung. I personally saw both JerryC and Funtwo's expression of Canon Rock when they performed them on youtube 10-15 years ago.
@@christophermcdougall8811 yep I know that. That's why I cleared it by saying, "the adlibs he does". I've seen and heard that video of JerryC back in 2015 in the best that I could remember. He played it a long time ago but I've only seen it on 2015. And I said, "rock" that means Canon(rock). 🙂 I've seen Jerry C but no Funtwo. I only follow Sungha Jung.
