    One thing that everyone should know, Flashpods will detonate all Kinsect dust around you.

    • @rapturedsoul-tef9065
      @rapturedsoul-tef9065 6 лет назад +238

      Now that I think of it, I should probably clear why this is important: Sometimes, you'll save dust around you for either heals, or to lure the monster to a spot with multiple clouds, then attack. However, if a Flash pod is used (Not sure yet if a teammate's flash will effect it just yet, haven't payed attention to that), it will detonate all of them. This could be either an advantage or a disadvantage depending on where the monster, your team, and the dust clouds are located at the time. Hope this was a good enough explanation for everyone.

    • @Epicfailmanable
      @Epicfailmanable 6 лет назад +38

      Found that out the hard way, so much dust wasted cause of a missed flashpod xD

    • @rollwulf
      @rollwulf 6 лет назад +26

      Other player's flashpods also detonates the dust aswell. But nothing you can do about it when you're in a party, because other people don't care about it.
      I only go for the sweet nitro moth so everyone can use flashpods anytime, as the dust does hurt the monster alot, and it comes really handy for other people to use flash!

    • @YourCrazyDolphin
      @YourCrazyDolphin 5 лет назад +6

      Guess this makes some good sync with the flashfly cage for your Palico then, as they'll plant free flashes for you to use rather frequently to activate the dust and blind the monster.

    Worth mentioning: you can use your kinsect to trigger bombs and falling boulders. With a high speed kinsect it actually travels faster than a slinger stone, meaning you have a better chance of triggering an environmental trap while the monster is still under it.

  • @Vauche
    @Vauche 6 лет назад +159

    One quick essence gathering tip: When you send your kinsect out it travels a set distance. If you're having a hard time reaching a particular buff (i.e. Orange buff from Bazel's back in this video), take some time familiarizing yourself with the distance your kinsect travels from sending it out from you. Then, once you have a general feel for how far that distance is, instead of just aiming for Bazel's back, aim *way* above it with plenty of room for clearing the monster and send it out with L2 + Triangle, then once your Kinsect is above Bazel, aim at the ground by his feet and direct your kinsect with L2 + Triangle again. Your kinsect will attempt to reach the point you're aiming at by traveling in a straight line. From directly above, you're much more likely to hit his back and get the essence you're going for, in this example. This technique takes a little longer travel time technically than just hitting to part you want first try and calling your kinsect back, but in situations where you don't have an easy line of sight always on the part you want to extract from, this technique of Kinsect directing will lessen some of your headache.

    Small thing, if people still use this video as the extremely helpful guide it is: When doing the air dance hits, you never bounce of monster scales or hide. So even though you're fighting Barroth, Nergigante etc, no matter what sharpness you're at, you don't bounce off and can complete your combo.

    one piece of criticism I have for how you use the glaive is that you dont use the insect mark enough. it is insane how useful it is to mark an area for your kinsect to attack, especially if done in strategic areas.
    for example, if I already have the triple buff I'll usually mark the monsters tail, that way my kinsect would follow and attack the monsters tail, building up that sever damage, and it comes with the added benefit of recovering some of my health when my insect runs out of stamina and returns to me. if you have a blunt insect you could mark the monsters head and build up that stun damage, and if timed correctly the insect could return to you with a red buff as soon as your current one runs out.
    and even if you werent concerned with that stuff too much, you could just get a high attack power kinsect and then mark any random spot on the monster and let the insect add to your overall DPS, you could never go wrong with that.
    basically what Im saying is that marking an area on a monster for your insect to attack is highly under utilized and should be implemented into regular glaive play, as it not only increases your overall DPS, but it increases your dust cloud usage by a wide margin, and can grant you and your team some really good personal benefits. after getting your buffs, marking the monster should always be your very next step before going into the melee yourself.

      Also worth noting that if you don't have an opening to attack and your Kinsect's stamina is starting to run low, you can spam the recall/collect actions a few times to quickly bring its stamina back up to full. Very, very useful for status builds since this means you can have clouds almost constantly generating. Stack a status across your weapon, Kinsect, and Palico, and use this any chance you get, and you'll be a status-applying monster.
      It's less of a hard rule and more just something to do when the stars align to give you an opening to do it, but still very much worth explaining on its own.

    Look, hear me out, I'm really new to these types of games. I really didn't wanna read all the instructions and shit so, I just figured "we'll all you do in every other RPG Is just Hit Dodge Hit Dodge and repeat, so I'll just do that". I ended up picking the glaive cause it looked cool, but once I started using it, I fell in love with the jump mechanic. It was all I would use. As you probably figured by now it sucked to do that all the time. It was bad damage along with the the fact i never ate a meal, ever, and the fact I didn't go for good skill in armor I only went for looks. I ended up hating the game for my own incompetence, but now I can't stop playing. Don't be me. Please read all the instructions given to you! Thanks.

      I'm not saying the game is dead. I was simply saying in relative terms, the playerbase has gone down massively. The view count for this video vs Arekkz's earlier videos (closer to when the game released) shows that the demand for MH videos isn't there anymore. Now I know Arekkz is a hardcore MH player/YTer but it should take him 4 months to release a basic weapon tutorial. Who is this helping? If you didn't know how to use the KB by now? It was my main months ago and i looked forward to Arekkz releasing a tutorial on it and I kept checking back to see if had released one but he hadn't until now? Too slow man. If you are still playing the game and enjoying it with friends then more power to you. But my comment was more aimed towards Arekkzs timing on releasing this tutorial more than anything, right now its not the time to release weapon tutorials.... that was months ago dude.

    Quick tip: if you are mounted a monster and it moves over to a wall you can run on (like the ropes around the trees in the arena) to try to knock you off, if you knock it down while it’s next to those surfaces you can point the joystick towards the walls to initiate a run midair, which allows you to do a downward strike on the fallen monster instead of having to fall to the ground and get up and whatever. This is especially useful if the monster is flying

    I'm really happy to see even after all this time, Arekkz still has the top suggested videos for learning MH weapons. I keep checking back on these videos periodically when I decide to use a different weapon.
    Those vertical strikes from the IG are fantastic for taking tails. But yes, being a air fighter is where the fun is at with this weapon. The general damage output for this weapon is pretty solid considering how quickly it hits. It's a better weapon than I thought it was when I first started playing MHW.

    First of all, I absolutely love your tutorials and watched them all over and over again, you are doing an amazing job making them.
    Secondly, I wanted to add a few things to your tutorial, a few things I think you didn't mention or are fun to know:
    1- The backside rotating move (I don't know the name) by holding back on L2 and hitting circle (I guess you didn't mention) it's actually quite handy since you move forward with this weapon and you cannot change direction mid-combo, you can just jump backward with a pretty strong hit.
    2- You can use the marking ability to explode the dust or make things like boulders fall. or even explode the bombs! you don't need slinger for these things.
    3- In a teamwork, it's better to mark the lower body parts of the monster if you need the dust because your teammates are more likely to hit those parts (unless they are mostly ranged)
    4- Just to have fun, mark a Gajalaka with the insect, or any of the annoying mosquitos (why I can't remember their name?) and enjoy the show :))))
    And, one thing I wanted to see in your video since I have never done any research on, was the invulnerability window, I still have difficulty figuring it out, it seems that sometimes in the air you might be invulnerable, but I am not sure.
    Anyways, thanks for a great video, these videos are so amazing.

    • @AliMorshedlou
      @AliMorshedlou 6 лет назад +2

      And don't forget to tell people that insect glave can be extremely annoying to your teammates, its attacks interrupt hammer combos and so on, that's why I never bring a hammer to fight Kulve Tarroth when there s an insect glave (or longsword) in the team. Also, they can wake up monsters with marking or the insect which has frequently happened to me in various fights, when I put the monster to sleep and someone wakes it up with an insect glave.

      I believe the air dash (direction + 'x' button) has some invincible frames, though timing it just right when most of your airtime is locked in a movement is, well, unreliable. Still clutch when you can though. That dash really came in handy for the final boss, too, straight counter to an otherwise tough attack to dodge.
      Also, thanks for the headsup on multiplayer. Waking up a monster with a kinsect is pretty wasteful, but I didn't know the IG could interrupt another player's attacks outright. Definitely something to be careful of.

  • @StretchyPlays
    @StretchyPlays 6 лет назад +7

    I can't believe I never knew about the wall grab after a vault! Also a minor detail but the L2+R2 shot where you mark the monster for your kinsect to attack is great for detonating barrels.

    You forgot to mention that after most moves, you can press Back+O to do a backflip slash. It doesn't deal much damage, but it's good for repositioning. Also, when jumping up walls, you only have to press Forward+X and you'll scale the wall and latch back on automatically. You'll scale the wall faster with White Extract, which also makes it faster than normally climbing. If you run out of stamina while climbing walls this way, just sit there for a sec and it'll restore.

    Am I the only one weirded out Arekkz didn't include the option you have to retreat: left joystick backwards + circle? It's great for evading and repositioning
    Also, I find t interesting my go-to combo is so different, for any interested here it is:
    Circle (triangle if sheathed) -> R2 -> triangle (after R2 you get a nice extra hit) -> triangle x2 -> circle -> triangle (cancel long animation with a quick stab) -> back + circle (to reset my position should I want to)

    • @ace052330
      @ace052330 6 лет назад +6

      MrIzumi224 You can use any combo you like. He just showed the best combos. It is in fact proven tri, tri, circle repeat is the most dps a Glaive can do. However most people use triangle then circle over and over. It's almost the same damage but has huge stagger/server potential. If your moving forward it would then be forward triangke, O, O. Until a Mon goes down or after a mount for big damage if sheathed it would be foward triangle, into R2, into infinite combo, or triangle circle combo. By using the back evade hit even tho it deals damage it's almost always a damage lose. All of this doesn't really matter tho. If you don't speed run it's not gonna change the time of your hunts by that much so just have fun and play how you like.

    I'd recomnend protective polish for any IG build if you have it. IG loses sharpness faster than any other weapon except dual blades due to rapid hits and long attack chains.

      @@BorisTheGoose92 protective polish is preferable, but razor sharp also works very well, and since xeno set gives you both that and effect prolonger with plenty of gem slots to gem in attack or elemental attack, it's a really good choice to use in IG.

    You forgot about the Forwards+T > O > O combo in the combo section. This combo is just as useful as the insect cancel for cancelling animation at the end of the leaping slash in the T > O combo. You can also do Forwards+T > O > O Evade then right back into Forwards+T > O > O Evade. The evade is useful for re-positioning against quick monsters that move a lot like Odo.

    Two things which are peripherally addressed but are important enough to highlight are that the air dodges do not provide I-frames and that in fights like Xeno'jiva it can be fully worth waiting out falls and then using those chaining air attacks to avoid touching hot floor while maintaining damage or even climbing it while it's taking flight to smack it back down very quickly.

    Been playing MH since Tri on the Wii, and if you showed me footage of what the Insect glaive could do then and told me it was from a Monster Hunter game, I frankly wouldn't believe it. The freedom of movement it allows for is astounding once you get it down. The combat feels so fluid, and it's awesome to be a melee fighter yet still be able to chase a flying monster into the air and bring it back down for everyone to fight. My new favorite weapon by far, sorry Dual Swords, I'll remember you fondly.

    One tip i've found with the insect glaive is how to start the combo after having completed a mount. Since your glaive sheaths and your kinsect generally will have full stamina, you can start out by doing a weapon draw with sprint + triangle, then press r2 to get your kinsect to attack the monster and create dust clouds in the same spot you're dealing dealing dmg. That way you can add that extra dmg into your combo while the monster is downed.
    Great vid, I still need to try out more weapons in the future since i've basically just used glaive and long sword so far.

    Good tutorial but you forgot a move if you have red and white and do a triangle attack holding back on the analog stick and hitting circle with result in a nice backflip which not only does damage but I've used it to dodge quite a few things as well as been able to go directly into the tornado slash afterwards keep up the great videos Arekkz

      I was about to write this comment as well. I kept wondering when he'd bring that move up. The back + O button is a really useful tool for me. Especially when I go in too deep with my combo and out of reach. I just use that to both do damage and get in fighting range.

    A new tip based off other guide videos (for iceborne with new claw mechanic) is to save mount for when monster is enraged, so you want to wall smash with claw at the start for more damage. Typically you only get 2-3 mounts per monster hunt based on the mounting damage threshold.

    I don't really care about DPS when using IG, because I pursue STYLE over DAMAGE

  • @ace052330
    @ace052330 6 лет назад +111

    Your actually loosing damage by doing that thing with your kinsect. When you finish a mount, or have any opening for big damage you should start the combo off with R2 on the head. This sends your kinsect out to attack and make blast dust/poison dust the entire time your attacking. The damage from your kinsect, the damage from each blast cloud, and the dmg from when blast/poison procs is more dmg than being able to start the combo a fraction quicker with a wonky system. Other than that was a good guide. I have around 1000 hour played. Over 60% of those with IG. I have crafted every single Glaive and bug in the game, and fully augmented 3 rarity 8 glaives, 2 6, and 4 7. Elemental/status dmg can be great on IG as can raw. My advice for kinsects is blast one mentioned in the video for any Glaive without speed boost. For gliaves with speed boost like Vice, Tobi-kadchi etc use the Blunt poison kinsect. It hits harder, can KO, is still very fast with 11 speed and your speed boost bonus, and poison adds up alot over a fight. The only other bug worth using imo is the server healing bug. It has max speed and heal. Pair it with a health boost Glaive like Pukei or Deviljho Glaive and it's dust clouds heals and extract heals are amazing and frequent. You will drink potions way way less which = more dps. There is a descent paraylize kinsect but I would only ever use it with a para IG. There wasn't really any good para IG until this new one. I didn't get it but if I had it running the para kinsect with it plus using para weapon on your cat would be 3 different weapons at once inflicting para while solo which may be worth using. Still not sure if the extra para proc or two it might provide would out do the dmg provide by blast/poison bug. Also by applying an element to your bug you only loose 1 point in the power stat that's it, and gain 13-15 points in the respective elemental. If you say use a thunder IG aganist a Mon weak to thunder using a thunder elemental kinsect will be more dmg. One final thing, the Kirin IG isn't of the best by no means but it has element boost kinsect buff. It can hit around 460 thunder damage. Pair this with 100% affinity, rathlos set bonus, thunder cap, and a thunder kinsect. The element boost from the Glaive will boost your kinsects elemental dmg even higher. On thunder weak mons this can be a fun combo to use with the tri, tri, circle infinite combo to take advantage of critical element and your super high thunder dmg and the thunder dmg from your bug. It's not the best, just effective and fun, and Kirin IG looks so cool.

As an IG main you should only get the 3rd orange extract right before red and white run out (the 2 most important ones) waiting for those 2 to almost run out then finally getting the orange extract will ultimately reset the timer for all extracts for a total of 120 (because that's how long the shortest buff lasts)+90= 210 seconds

    Started MH from Freedom Unite and played most every game since and once I tried IG in 4U I was hooked. I use every weapon But IG is easily my fave I started with Dual Blades for the speed then went to long sword for its reach so insect glaive was like the two fused.

    Also (I'm fairly sure you didn't mention it so I will just in case), don't forget to watch your kinsect's stamina - it'll drop any time the kinsect isn't docked to your arm. When it runs out, it'll be fairly useless but you can still grab buffs provided you're close enough to the monster and grabbing those buffs will increase your kinsect's stamina when you call it back. Try to manage kinsect stamina by calling it back before it's entirely out so it can rest up while leaving yourself enough to pull off a close R2 for some dust/damage if necessary.

    Thank you for this explanation I avoided the IG because I didn't know how to use it effectively but now I'm kicking more ass than I ever could with the daggers.
