Late to the party, picked up the game recently and was trying to figure out the combos which the video is awesome for! What I missed is that if you do the descending thrust after the vault, your next light attack is the double slash and your heavy is tornado slash instantly. For double slash tornado slash is the follow up. So you can vault, thrust, double slash, tornado slash for a gap closing damage burst and if you want to combo more you can do the jumping slash instead of the thrust as that ties in directly into the infinite combo.
I literally had to replay some sections multiple times because I stopped listening as I was captivated by you just owning Velkhana every time she dares to use her breath attack xD I originally played Insect Glaive way before Iceborne came out, since then I played Lance, Dual Blades, Heavy Bowgun, Bow and Hunting Horn, all quiet a lot, but now I wanted to return to Insect Glaive, so I appreciate the video. I wanna add something that can actually do tons of damage which you didn't go over. As you said the downward thrust marks the enemy at the end. But what you didn't say is that the downward thrusts mark is actually special. Once it's applied the kinsect always dashes towards the mark, through any obstacle, even right through the monster, and does damage ticks along the way. If you do this properly, so that your Kinsect dashes through a good lenght of the monster, this can actually rack up a ton of damage. I have seen people, using a kinsect with low speed and high power so that the kinsect takes longer to get through the monster, thus getting more damage ticks, literally do something like 130 times 9 just because of the kinsect flying through. It's actually a tech you can make builds around and do consistent damage. But due to the preparational nature of this, speedrunners will most likely never rely on it, but maybe use it when it offers itself up. Oh and one more thing, sending out your kinsect is actually an animation cancel, you can cancel out of half of the end lock animation of tornado slash for example if you just send out your kinsect. I know you can also roll out of it at that point, but sending out the kinsect costs no stamina, you can move in the animation and you can also instantly gather some extract with it. So overall it is just a very nice to have animation cancel.
Best insect glaive tutorial I've found! First time playing the game and having all the infos on attacks and combos so simple and summed up is extremely helpful. Thank you
I have around 300+ hours with this weapon: This is easily the best guide made for it. The only thing I would add is that some attack combos are better for monster parts located above you, and others are meant when monster part is directly in front.
Recently picked up the Insect Glaive, used it to clap Alatreon's cheeks as I was struggling with Greatsword and fell in love. I was turned off this weapon because I thought the Kinsect was complicated but it really isn't, it's actually very intuitive. Also, the pogo stick into the downward thrust feels so satisfying! Thanks for the guide!
Came back to the game after 2 years. Was struggling tons with the keybinds. Used to mainly use katana, the glaive and charge axe. But since friends are now using the other two I decided to now get back into the game we all have new accounts. Truely needed this. Cause jeez I am struggling.
Just gave the IG another chance after not touching it for more than 700 hours, man, this weapon is godlike if you use it right, I've been missing out lol.
I've beaten the main story of the game plus iceborne, and I'm literally just now finding out about kinsect charge. Why isn't there any of this information more easily accessible in the game?
For the BnB combo, you can perform the two middle inputs in any order. I like to do the fast four hit first, then I'll determine if I have time to complete the BnB, or if I should just go for the finish.
We gonna do the top deeps combo dirty like that? vault downward thrust into tornado combo as it bypasses the filler attacks of groundbased tornado strike and makes up for the damage by being one of the heaviest hitting attacks and can hit multiple times on the way down (or for elemental gloves the downward thrust into the yyby combo) can dump out 9k damage in roughly 30 seconds since it has 2 high motion value attacks in the combo (plus the bug is a nice bonus to damage ESPECIALLY if you mastered the bug drill method and can slip it into your combos)
Theres is also the green extract which gives a small heal when your kinsect comes back, on a lot of monster you get it from the tail or some parts of the body.
Nice man, just started using keyboard in MHW and IG is now my main weapon so this video came just in time :D Do you also do gear guides for weapons? I struggle a lot with alatreon
Glad to hear it! Yo IG is so much fun! I haven't done a few weapon build videos where I go through a specific weapon and good armour to use with it. If you're looking for Alatreon, Safi with Kjarr weapons are great, my kjarr king video is a good build for Alatreon in Ice mode but definitely end game. You can also use a 3 piece kaiser, 2 piece brachy with any fire or ice weapon - I'm gonna release a video on this later this week :)

I don't actively do this. Imo its a waste of time to reposition yourself and aim your thrust to get this damage. I go for the head on a lot of monsters so most of the time I'm already ahead of them and the kinsect drill only works if you're behind the monster. Passively, this does happen though, once every few thrusts it will but its not a make or break technique. Its a little more useful in group hunts than solo :) Use the slower bugs which are in general better for kinsect drill, but also have higher power.

Counter point to 0:55 The aerial version of the heavy attack with the red(1) buff has a very lengthy animation, compared to when you don't have it, fighting monsters that don't give you a lot of breathing room having a quick aerial attack with it is good, uragan specialy becomes almost a joke if you don't get buff 1. Of course you lose a lot of potencial damage, specialy on the ground, but if you're dead you won't be dealing any damage anyways.
I was curious if you have any good combination of armour for high rank cos i am using defender armour and i just beat nerigante and was not sure whoch armour to use I also use insect glaive
Hello, when i press ctrl after vaulting my character doesn't do the downward thrust move. Maybe it's because of my keybindings, where can i find the "CC Aimer" keybind? Thank you!
There are two kinsect charges - yellow and red which are basically stamina and damage boosts respectively to the kinsect. Those depend on the ammo you use to charge. Environment slinger does stamina boost, monster drop slinger gives damage boosts. Stamina will make your bug attack longer and create more dust in the air (blast, heal, poison), while the damage will just double the kinsect damage which includes the blunt and element dmg. Both are helpful, and some glaives have a perk to give you both. I've outlined this in a previous video as well if you want visuals - at the end of this video, its the video on the top left tile.
Emmm sir just started playing this game, can i ask u what kinsect did u use at the video ? And how it can stack red and white buff at the same time ? Thank you
Hey Dewa! The kinsect I use is the Carnage beetle. Its a blunt, blast kinsect. Blunt dmg for me works super well, it knocks monster/ breaks parts quite often which is fantastic for openings! The stacking red and white effect is an Iceborne feature! If you have purchased Iceborne, I believe the buttons to click are hold the aimer (V) and click both light and heavy attack(both mouse buttons). That's charge your kinsect and let you pick up 2 colours! I'll double check the controls when I return home, I'm out for the day! Happy hunting friend and thank you watching :)
red buff boosts your attacks; 2 light attacks followed with 2 hvy attacks makes for a 9 hit total since your glaive attacks a number of times for each input
So if you mark the monster with the attack that summons the kinsect out, it will grab the effect from where it hits and fight it for a bit then come back to you and give you the buff?
Yes and if you don't have all three buffs active, when it returns, it'll reset the timer for that buff. If you have all three already active, the timer cannot be reset and instead all three buffs are synced and they run out at the same time. Now if you don't have the buff, you can recall the kinsect to get that buff immediately, then mark to just let the kinsect do its thing. My usual play style that I think is fairly efficient: Grab white, grab red, mark head. DPS. Red gets rebuffed when kinsect returns while I continue to DPS. When white starts to blink, I grab orange and all three get reset.
Do you have the Iceborne DLC? Thats usually the culprit. It was an added feature with the DLC. If you still can't, check your keybindings. Its the "weapon special action" button when you are in the air.
Charge Blade is a really fun one! Very satisfying weapon imo. Unfortunately Glaive has a very unique playstyle so there aren't many weapons similar, but in terms of satisfaction, CB is amazing in World

@@SkySenseiVB off the top of my head, the button to bring up the kinsect control is C not ctrl or V. Or atleast that is what it is defaulted to. holding ctrl brings up the selector wheel. Otherwise thanks for the tutorial video ^^ one question I would ask is how do you so accurately hit the head every time you do the wyvern dive? I can't seem to do it very accurately.... Do you mean like in game??? Ummm its been a while since I opened World so I'm entirely sure but from memory, I believe the little controller icon in the menu (Second tab). And then you should see keyboard settings I believe. Edit: All in options ofc
tldr: For slow, bonnetfille lineage is nice, fast whispervesp is ideal. Both blast since thats the best dmg option, but heal could be helpful too if you're just starting out, a heal bug is great! For type, blunt is usually the better one so the mauldrone lineage. Marking a monster to sever is a pretty big pain. I would try out one fast kinsect and one slow one to see with you like. The speed changes make quite a difference. Slow ones hit harder and are better for element dmg.
@@aryssobral To start its not bad :) Still has blast which is perfect! Sever again won't be too helpful but its a nice, fast bug so you can get your buffs quick :) Defender is perfect to lvl quickly!

This was an extra video to my previous tutorial. In world, aerial combos aren't efficient - you do far too little dmg and lose too much time using aerial attacks. Do you mean the downward thrust? Its a DLC feature (You must own Iceborne) then the special move becomes the downward thrust when you're in the air :D
What is the insect glaive the you are using ?
Sorry edit:
IG There are a few I use in this video. Safi ones, raging brachy one, and now I use the fatalis.
Kinsect: The main one I use is the Gleambeetle III Medis :) Highest dmg output though it is also one of the slowest XD The Dragon soul is a more balanced one but I prefer the slow ones so personal preference there :)
For some weird reason, I cannot perform the downward slash
Do you have Iceborne? That was a skill introduced with the DLC.
That big dmg dive that u do when u fly to the air dosent work for me Oo
It came with Iceborne. If you don't have the DLC, it won't be unlocked D:
@@SkySenseiVB oh thank you , im not sure if its worth it
@@Almog92 Iceborne is definitely worth it if you're loving base World. Theres a lot of great hunts, more challenges, all the weapons get cool new moves. You also get clutch claw which is a really interesting mechanic! The story is also pretty well done! ^_^ If you see a sale, grab it!!
Where even are the key binding options??
Do you mean like in game??? Ummm its been a while since I opened World so I'm entirely sure but from memory, I believe the little controller icon in the menu (Second tab). And then you should see keyboard settings I believe.
Edit: All in options ofc
sir how to feed the insect?
how to move like 03:01
What name your mod weapon
Whats the best beginner kinsect?
tldr: For slow, bonnetfille lineage is nice, fast whispervesp is ideal.
@@SkySenseiVB what about pseudocath for beginning would u recommend? Also im using defender weapon
@@aryssobral To start its not bad :) Still has blast which is perfect! Sever again won't be too helpful but its a nice, fast bug so you can get your buffs quick :) Defender is perfect to lvl quickly!
i dont understand how to do the vault attack your keybinds dont work for me
I did change my keybindings so be sure to check that. The full keybinds are the link in the description next to the time stamp. Also you must have the Iceborne DLC in order to do the vault. It was a new move introduced with the DLC.
@@SkySenseiVB yeah thanks for your fast response turns out it was the dlc edit: now i have iceborne but i cannot perform the attack with basic keybinds
what is the name of that insect glave
Which one? I used a couple of different ones in this video.
the gold one
@@SkySenseiVB what's the gold one
Bruh didn't talk once about mounting with air combos, or air combos attacks...
This was an extra video to my previous tutorial. In world, aerial combos aren't efficient - you do far too little dmg and lose too much time using aerial attacks. They're fun yes and good for manuevering, but the world Glaive shines on ground sadly. Mounting is straight up doing the downward spin multiple times for get the mount the in the quickest way possible which I think I put I my original IG Tutorial.
giving up, too much spoilers in this video
So these are the controls when your mouse does not have 5 buttons? Interesting.
who tf uses mouse and keyboard wtf
