On the video for God Gave Rock n Roll to You, Eric Carr is wearing a wig because he was going through Chemotherapy. RIP, Eric Carr!!!
ooh it was that far gone
Eric passed away weeks after he did this video. He had no chance to survive the cancer so he went out his way.
@@MrHeavy67 he couldn't play on the song. the drums were played by eric singer. Carr did sing in the a cappella part and played in the video
also, he didn't actually play. Eric Singer did it. Eric Carr only contributed a few background vocals only, due to his frail state.
A very sad time for us. Eric was an awesome person, still missed by us all.
"Forever" was my wedding song! When all my friends and family were getting married to your standard pop ballads, we picked Kiss. The reaction was priceless, but everyone loved it. Totally worth it just to see my grandmother dancing to Kiss!
Forever was my wedding song as well!
Awesome, mine should've been Hell Awaits by Slayer.
My wedding song as well 🤘🏼
Keelin' Metal Jam that sounds pretty forboding about marriage
giants9833 I'd imagine that seeing grandma dancing to a Kiss song was quite a sight
Seen them this year for the 8th time! Seen them with every member they ever had ( yes that includes Mark St. John ) The best show they ever put on!! Kel n Rich you are gonna be blown away! Hands down the best band on stage I've ever seen!! Thanks guys for everything you do!
Eric Singer actually recorded the drums for God gave Rock n Roll. Eric Carr was really sick but wanted to do the video and he unfortunately died three months later after the single was released. Originally the song was recorded for the Bill and Teds Bogus Journey soundtrack in 1991 and in 1992 was included on Kiss’ album Revenge.
This was KISS' biggest hit since the 70's. It's a great power ballad and Bruce Kulick was their best lead guitarist in my opinion as another huge KISS fan. I could name a hundred other KISS songs that you guys could react to, but Kissfan1979to2019 probably got it covered.
Argent cover
If you really want to see their true level of musical and vocal talent, check out their unplugged show. It’s the best KISS you’ll see.
Eric is wearing a wig in the God Gave Rock n Roll to you video. I am pretty sure it was his last video before Cancer took him..... You are right Rich, his fills and timing were very impressive.... cheers again from Ottawa!!
KISS has always been my favorite band. TONS of great songs.
"God Gave Rock and Roll To You" isn't a KISS song. It's a song by Argent they wrote almost 20 years before Kiss covered it.
@@allengator1914 I know that. Irrelevant to my comment.
A thumbs up for saying the world is a better place for KISS being in it!
One of the best parts of watching your videos is waiting for the moment when Kel gets the smile on her face, cuz you know then, that she gets it. Long live Rock n Roll!
Both are great songs ❤ This is what Kiss was capable of being ❤. They are a hard rock band at their core , but when they wanted to prove something they always deliver ❤.
Well said Kel ..that was the best description of what KISS is all about..KISS RULES!!!!!!
I can answer that for myself it's the music and the way they treat their fans they love us as we love them they go above and beyond there expectations in concert and other things they have been there for me in my lowest times and greatest times of my life and continue to do great things for us they have been around for 46 years and have given the fans 46 years of there life's to us the fans the stage shows are out of this world and they have very powerful music I will always be a kiss fan until the end of time KI⚡⚡ FOREVER in my heart
You said it perfectly!!
Hey Rich... Bruce Kulick is the guitarist you couldn't recall. He was acquainted with the band as his older brother, Bob, played guitar on Paul Stanley's '78 solo album. He was available at the right time and played with Kiss from'83-'96. Coincidentally those are the same years Kiss performed wo make up.
God Gave RnR to You 2 was featured in the movie Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Great song
kiss tears are falling
Kiss did very well with the Argent tune "God Gave rock'n'roll To You". And not long after that, they lost drummer Eric Carr. He was a great drummer, good vocalist, and a heck of a nice guy.
Ahh...the joys of Rock'n'Roll. Kel, you're so pure.
Lady, your comments on this band are what it's all about. I hope the experience lived up to what you expected. LOVE
i’m really glad that you like their songs and I enjoy your reactions. And you are so right kiss has a very diverse library of songs they went from rock to bluesy rock then they also did pop then 80s rock then disco then 80s metal then some 90s grunge and they also did a contemporary ballad called Beth and to top that off they also made a concept albumWith a storyline called music from the elder that was supposed to be made into a movie but never was and that album sounds more like Pink Floyd music. Their manager also had them do a promotional song for a kissing contest called kissing time which was a cover of an old 60s song. The more you get into kiss the more you’ll enjoy it I’m sure take care and thanks again for your reactions
I know this is a year old but another Kiss fan found you!! 44 years a Kiss fan. You picked an excellent song, a definite favourite among probably 90% of us!
It's hard to pin down exactly what we like, thus it's usually everything. Sounds crazy but for most of us Kiss is in our hearts and soul.
Yes!! Welcome to the KISS Army guys!!! 🤘🤘
19:00.....I am SO with you Kel!!! The world is a better place because of KISS and Maiden!! I now feel we are kindred spirits. :)
We are more than 1 , We are a million to one
You got that right, it's joy!! Pure unadulterated happiness!!
Patty Macleod Oh yes! Thank you so much for commenting. We had such a great time watching these.
Actually Gene is afraid of heights but he does it for us!!
We lost both Eric Carr and Freddie Mercury on the same night it was my 18th Birthday and I am a Massive Queen and Kiss Fan. Legends Live Forever through their gift of Music to All of us. God Bless you both Kel and Rich
I loved "God Gave Rock and Roll..." the first time I heard it as a kid, on the Bill and Ted's Bogus Soundtrack... and I've been a KISS fan ever since. Thank you for doing this song!!
But KISS stole this song from the British band that wrote and recorded it in the early 1970s - Argent.
@@lorddaver5729 Yes they did! They still made it better though!
I'm so excited for you to see KISS!!!!!!
Their Dedication To The Art of Music and to their fans and the best live shows by anyone bar none
The greatest rock and roll band ever and the greatest live band no-one one can touch them
I started playing drums because of KISS and then discovered RUSH two of my all time favorites!
Hearing Kel put into words how I've felt about KISS since I was a kid, literally choked me up a bit. I'm so glad you enjoyed these two awesome songs and I anxiously await to see which KISS song you discover next!
They were/are what every other rock band wanted to be....versatile....they went from the hard rock 70's thru disco (Dynasty) to the hair band 80's to grunge (Revenge) to their own thing from the 2000's on....many lineup changes but stayed true to who they were. There were many versions but in the end there is only one "Hottest band in the world....KISS!!" ;)
Thank you for covering KISS songs - they really do have a great catalog that has never been aired on mainstream media. This is great link for a fantastic "bravado" party song that would just get you jumpin'.
ruclips.net/video/EL7ZyRy9f9I/видео.html
Actually the drums were recorded by their current drummer Eric singer who ended up replacing Eric Carr when he died. Eric Carr however recorded the background vocals for this song and this video was his final appearance with kiss. During the filming of this video he was already very sick and weak and he is actually wearing a wig.
john freeman he was also in an immense amount of pain in addition to having been weak and not feeling well
Most likely that Eric Carr was going through chemotherapy treatment at the time of the video shoot
...and that'd be in the God Gave video. On Hot in the Shade (the album which Forever comes off) Eric Carr was all healthy and well...and played all of the drums on the song and album (excepet on the few tracks where a drum-machine was used)🤘😁
KISS have a bigger fanbase and have more fanatical fans than anyone else. They are huge!
God I love this song! To listen to Gene talk about making this video was hard. He really cared about Eric. RIP Eric Carr! I with Kel the world is a better place with KISS! 99.9% if what KISS sings is possitive. They have always put their fans 1st. They came to Germany when I was a kid to play for the troops. And they donate $1 for every ticket sold to their shows to veterans orginazation.
Listen to I still love you from MTV unplugged!
Don't forget God of Thunder country version. Eric Singer recorded God Gave Rock and Roll to You ll. However this was Eric Carr's last video. Eric Carr and Eric Singer are amazing drummers.
@@janeteitsworth8824 Absolutely! Both Eric's are amazing. I feel bad for Eric Singer. It's really had to replace such a beloved member. Now he's got to wear Peter's make-up. They ( Paul & Gene) should've let him create his own character. I heard it was promoters that pushed the whole Peter & Ace make up now.
KISS live will blow your mind ... it is everything that a Rock concert should be.
My mom was a kiss fanatic growing up and still to this days me too
Nothing more to say than 'That was Awesome!!' I've been a KISS fan since Jr. High during mid-1970's and 'Destroyer' was the first LP I heard back then and the rest is history. They have such an amazing catalog of material. Thanks for this!
Should always play live versions of kiss. Kiss was and is the ultimate road dogs. That's where they shine.
The way you described KISS is spot on... that's all they wanted to be. Gotta do a live 1 from "76
This is a great rock balled by a great rock band on the song Forever...love Paul Stanleys vocal on this song....love the acoustic guitar on this song also...on God gave us Rock and Roll..it was ok not their best material...thanks for the reaction
"God Gave Rock 'N' Roll to You II was covered by the American hard rock band Kiss, with the track being released as a single in 1991 from the soundtrack to the movie Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. It was later included on Kiss' 1992 album Revenge.
Though the power ballad covered the original Argent 1973 version "God Gave Rock and Roll to You", it had substantially modified lyrics in the verses, thus the reason behind the slight change in the name of the song. It is one of the few songs from Kiss' 'non-makeup era' to be played live since the band returned to wearing their trademark makeup in 1996."
Love you guys, stereotypical average Americans from somewhere in the states, being a KISS fan since i was 8,5 me guess when DESTROYER album came out in 1976. In school students had in each class room wicked friday fun hour were we could do whatever we wanted, painted me self as Gene Simmons and we did a KISS show for the rest of the class.
lots off love from Sweden
Eric Carr's sound was just so huge. From the first time I heard him on "I Love It Loud" it was just such a change. And I was and still am a huge fan of Peter Criss
Gene Krupa teacher to Peter Criss
Again, I'm about the same age as you guys, so I kind of grew up with Kiss' popularity. We had Halloween masks, Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park, lunchboxes, colorform stickers... :D
The Song Forever hit #8 in the billboard charts
Big Kiss fan here. Kiss wanted to be like heavy metal Beatles. I would say they succeed. Great reaction you guys. Your channel is awesome. Hope you have fun at the show. I saw them in 1993 live when God Gave Rock And Roll To You came out. Hopefully they were just as good. I will recommend “Detroit Rock City”, Beth”, and “Parasite”(great deep song there) for later.
God Gave Rock-n-Roll to You, is a cover of an old Petra song.
Honest review..I enjoyed it ..Best of luck 🍀
Unholy is my favorite Kiss song. Makeup or no makeup. Do this one please!!
Fan since 1976 love everything
@@MrHeavy67 I discovered them when I was 8 yrs old. And I love everything too.❤️❤️❤️ Finding them saved my life. Of that I am sure. Their music has been the sound track to my life.
I always liked the "Forever" video because of the contrast between the band in black-and-white and the background in color.
I was looking for Kiss videos, found this and you're wearing a Pendragon shirt...respect. One of my favorite bands of all time :) RIP Eric Carr!
40 Years Member of Kiss Army Germany,so...a sure "Like" right before the Reaction starts.
He was in treatment for cancer, and he only played in the video. It was the last time he ever played.
He died on the same day as Freddie Mercury, however. Eric Carr was a monster back vocalist too. RIP Eric. I miss and love u so much buddy. ❤️
And I feel u Kel, I grew up with Kiss in early 80's and it was amazing to by those vinyls an merch.. Soo.. More Kiss please. I love u 2 guys.
#Kel n Rich; The guitarist was Bruce Kulick who is now the guitar player for Grand Funk Railroad.
Doesn't take a genius to realize that Paul wanted to send Kiss into a more pop direction.. Why not, the guy had an underrated voice?
I just found you and love your reactions. I know that this is an older reaction. I wish you would do a reaction to I still love you . The unplugged concert. Paul Stanley's voice is amazing
KISS RULES , Card carrying member of the Kiss Army since I was 8!!!!!
Lead guitarist Bruce Kulick was in the band from 1984 to 1996.
He was the best guitarist for Kiss. I am not an Ace Frehley fan, Bruce had more technique & talent
Bruce is a Boss on guitar and a very nice guy !!
@@CavemanJesus4Life two completely different guitar players and also different characters. I love them both. They are both not very good singers though.
@@CavemanJesus4Life ACE had more feeling
Thank you for doing these two fantastic KISS songs. You guys are in for an amazing KISS concert in august! :D I'm seeing them twice in Norway a week from today. Been a fan for 30 years this year! God gave rock and roll to you is a cover, however Gene and Paul rewrote the lyrics for this version as the original was very dated. I recommend your next KISS video to be "I still love you" and specifically it needs to be the official MTV Unplugged version from 1995. Since you loved the 2 songs above, I know you will absolutely love that one as well
Y'know, 'skyrockets' can fly in multiple directions! Afternoon delight and all that.
"Forever" was a Top 10 hit in the US.
FYI regarding the makeup. KISS wore makeup from their beginnings in 1973 until 1983 when they decided to remove it with the release of their Lick it up album after losing original drummer Peter Criss and then lead guitarist Ace Frehley. They continued without makeup along with a few more member changes until 1996 when the original 4 members reunited for a reunion tour. They have been performing since 1996 with the makeup. After Ace and Peter left again they recruited Eric Singer on drums and Tommy Thayer on lead guitar but they kept the same makeup designs that Ace and Peter wore.
I love KISS!!!
The original was argent. But kiss changed it from god gave rock n roll to you, to ”god gave rock n roll to you to”. They made it thier own. Even changed the lyrics in some parts.
Also this videoshoot was Eric carr’s absolute last performance with the band. He died shortly after.
Rest in peace.
thx for the info
Kiss had an uphill Battle in there early days. Many wrote them off as a gag. Only the kiss army took them seriously. Parents hated them, kids loved them.
Hi Kel n Rich... Eric Carr was a huge loss not just to Kiss but to the wider metal community...God gave Rock n Roll to You was Erics last peformance with Kiss and correct on filming that video he was very ill...Eric passed away on same day as Freddie Mercury. I've always said this is the best Kiss line up. I have been listening to them since i was 8 i'm now 49 years young. Erics drumming put the metal into the music of Kiss, the unmasked era should never be overlooked some the best songs they did where on those albums from 83' to 91'. The guitarist is Bruce Kulick brother of Bob Kulick. He joined them on the Animalize Tour in 84'... due to an RSI injury to Mark St John who was current guitartist at time. Bruce subsituted for Mark on tour live. Marks injury never recovered and Bruce found him self a full time member. Bob tells a story about how he would tell Paul and Gene that his younger brother should be in the band. Yes i love Kiss guilty as charged but i for one do listen to alot of other bands..
We lost Eric Carr and Freddie Mercury the same night...it was my 18th Birthday such a loss of two Legends....they are Immortal by their work of music
When I was a kid, I loved KiSS, cause I thought they were superheroes, and when I saw them in comic bookc, and saw Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park when I was a kid, they were just everything to me lol. I still love em!
For song writers, kel has laid out a challenge... diversity of songs for each occasion... ☺ btw God have Rock and Roll to you was pretty much an anthem of youth days with old drinking buddies.. was great to hear it again.
You guys rock love the channel!! 🤘🤘
Check out # KISSymphony with the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s a three part concert. Total Awesomeness, Kel you’ll love it.
exactly, maybe one of their best concerts. paul could still sing and it was great mix of classic rock and pomposity. okay the quality maybe linked to good post production but bad groups aren't saved by the mixing desk.
Forever was my wedding song with my now ex wife, still love the song though, amazing, beautiful song
xD So much for forever.
From Kel's sharp intake I think she had never seen an axe axed on stage before... :)
Better not watch any early The Who then, she'd have a coronary. 😜
My favorite song by Kiss !!!!!!!
How bout a review of Savatage "When The Crowds Are Gone"
Eric Singer did the drum track but Eric Carr was in the video sadly it was his last kiss video he was in before he passed
thx
Kiss- Unholy
And if you like Ballads do Kiss- Every time I look at you
The Best Ever!!!!! Great Reaction
Love the pinky and brain t-shirt Kel
You'll enjoy KISS. I've seen them a couple of times and they didn't disappoint....So, a few days ago, I realized that no one reacts to Lillian Axe, a horribly underrated band. I prefer their 80's work because I fell in love with Ron Taylor's voice, who was their vocalist back then. So, I'm going to request Lillian Axe, except I don't know where to even start. If you want ballads, I'll See You Someday, Ghost of Winter and The Promised Land are good. Letters in The Rain is good, it's kind of ballad-y. Also recommend Show A Little Love, Innocence, True Believer, and Body Double. Really depends on your mood, I guess, lol. Then, as we get closer to the holidays, I'll become a Pain In The Ask because they have a BEAUTIFIL Christmas song that deserves attention. ... #LillianAxe Ghost Of Winter/Body Double/or anything mentioned above and I'm from Ft Worth, TX.
The guitarist that you're making a reference to Rich would be Bruce Kulick
Another song from Kiss' non-makeup days, this one specifically from the first album that they did without the makeup
"Lick it up" which is actually the title track
BTW: Eric Carr was originally supposed to record the drum tracks for "God gave Rock and Roll to you" but due to his Heart Cancer diagnosis wasn't able to do so because his doctors wouldn't release him in order to record it, so they had Eric Singer playing the drum tracks on the song, but Eric Carr appeared in the video and according to Gene Simmons, throughout the entire video shoot, was in an immense amount of pain during the filming of the video
You could do Kiss reviews for years... there are a ton of songs. I love the attitude of Kiss. It's all about loving and living life to the fullest...
I saw kiss and tednugent back in 88 where my hometown is Marquette Michigan.
The leather pants with the skulls on the thighs are a throwback to Gene's costume from the first self titled album.
oh man... I discovered this band so late, but their live DVD is right up there in my top5 (the others being Sabaton, Rammstein, Metallica and Motley Crue) Seeing them live will be a treat! I'm soooo jealous since we get almost no international artists touring here :( And yes Kiss have a magical range in their music, and they do have a song everything for everything.
OH BTW, the order I told you about earlier today is in.. I'll send you the details later.
In God gave Rock n Roll video, those quik littl emakeup era early shots brings tears to my eyes. ... iF YOURE GOING TO SEE THEM FOR THE 1ST TIME, plz keep in mine they are a mere shadow of what they once were in the mid 70s. They are tired, I give them lots of credit for doing it at that age, biut realize they are senior citizens so they wont be doing what they did & what they were known for which is high energy rock n roll., but- its still a good time.
The lead guitarist in this lineup was Bruce Kulick. He now plays with Grand Funk Railroad.
Yes Kel, you undoubtedly understand KISS and what their purpose in rock n roll is. They just didn’t GAF and that’s rock n roll.
I won't bug you over, and over like KISSLOVER, but would love to see you guys react to a live video of Kiss-God of Thunder.
Gene has a fobia of heights and flying, and yet he flies everywhere on tour with their band jet and has been tossed up to the light rig (before this tour by just wires) every night, countless of times!
If you want to hear all of those things ina band, get the kiss box set ad listen to... I think it is 5 cds from start to finish. Kiss is highly underated and their music is so vastly different. I was made for loving you is freaking DISCO! They really can do it all. I have kiss on my play list and I was never a huge kiss fan growing up. If you liked Forever, give "Shandi," a listen.
Their best Ballad by far is .forever. Blows Beath the way
But they didn't write the song God Gave Rock n Roll to You. KISS stole it from British band Argent who recorded and released it in 1973. Go and find their original on the internet.
KISS fan since Dressed To Kill in '74.
Kel you want battle songs you really need more #manowar. Try battle hymns, dawn of battle and I'll chuck in swords in the wind just for example. Stay beautiful.
Battle Hymn! Yes!
You guys crack me up! Love you guys! 😂
I was never a huge Kiss fan, but, they do have some great songs
\m/ Stay Metal \m/
My older brother was a HUGE Kiss fan when we were kids in the late 70s. I liked them, but they were never my thing. I do have some records though. They are a bit of a time machine, taking me back to my youth.
Every song is different. For a true fan, you know every song in the first 5 notes. They’re all different
Exactly! That's one of the things I love most about them.
Has kiss lover suggested anything from their show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra?
GRAHAM!!!!!!
Thank you for your question. Yes, it has been suggested and we will get to it for sure. As you know, we love it when the bands pair with orchestras 😊 😊 😊
Thanks so much for still being here rockin’ out with us!
@@kelligafter502 I'm claiming bragging rights on that one because I was lucky enough to be at that show.🤘🇦🇺
