I think that green grainy filter has to do with the brightness setting being independent from the cutscenes. Back on the Xbox, I turned up the brightness to see better but the cutscenes were still dark when in-game it had the green grain, so I think it's from them changing the brightness in the cutscenes themselves.
I agree, I think this is the case. It looks like they reused the original Xbox pre-rendered cutscenes. These always looked bad and if they were originally very dark, it's probably the case that they just look blown out when you brighten them because they were really compressed, low resolution, low dynamic range old pre-rendered cutscenes. Too bad the cutscenes can't be re-rendered or played out in-engine.
@@100StarWars wow that’s awesome they may fix the problem! I was planning on getting the game but when I heard a physical version is coming in summer I decided to wait for the physical version
Knights of the Old Republic was the reason I got Xbox back in the day.. the second game is absolutely one of my all-time favorite games. I'm playing it right now and I look forward to the restore content that I've never experienced.
This is a fair review and I support the comparisons you’ve made as a fellow 20-30+ runthrough player. I haven’t played this game without TSLRCM for several years so I’m quite excited to make the comparison with a fresh outlook. As for the restored content release date, I believe it’s been confirmed for Q3 2022 - so the earliest we’ll get it is July. Thanks for the video, very pleased to hear Aspyr sent you a copy early. The worst part of cutscenes in this port is the volume. It seems that they stuck at being extra loud. Both docked and in handheld, it’s extremely loud and the movie volume slider doesn’t do anything (except mute at the lowest setting).
The reason why the dialogue skips has to do with a memory leak in the source code. I spent ... months. Obsessing over this, because the first time I played the game with the RCM, it decided to pull that crap at the very end during all the new dialogue. So I spent about a month trying to figure out a way to stop it from happening. The best I was able to get to, was heavy menu'ing / pausing while switching targets / killing targets too quickly, causes the game to just...continue being in that battle state, so the more convos you go through, it just herp derps down the drain slowly without you realizing it. So, save often. The game kinda like... "clears" its cache after a certain moment, but that clear isn't actually a clear it just jettisons it somewhere else, and if you hit that spot where it decided to put it, it memory leaks and does the dialogue skipping. It's also a good thing that this system runs this game sub 60 as well, cause anything higher than that, you can actually skip the character pop-in for cinematics and just get stuck in limbo. [You can actually load on the Harbinger in the space suit if your FPS is too high]
Memory leaks are caused by the game being run for over 1.5 hours and it depends on how many loading zones you trigger as the game has to load new modules all the time.
I like that they used the console version due to the interface being more friendly for console which is what they should have done with Kotor 1. Best thing overall though would be to use the PC versions take there time and incorporate the full console control UI from the consoles to the PC versions they ported. Also I do recall the UI fading away on the original Xbox and I agree the restored DLC should have been included at launch even if they didn’t release the game so soon. Maybe they will also update the resolution output for the text and other issues you mentioned when they release the dlc
Kotor 2 on Android is surprising good. The implementation of touch controls works out as well. I thought I would hate it. But it works just fine and has controller support.

I didn’t know that there was a switch port, but the fact that there is is extremely convenient for me because it allows me to play it much quicker than trying to find it on PC. I also just like playing games on switch. Thanks for making this video, it really helped me form an opinion on whether to get the game or not.
Waiting for the RCM to be released and I’m also not done with Kotor 1 so I’m definitely going to buy Kotor 2 on Switch for the definitive edition! Definitely worth the $15 and am excited to play it once I get it!

I personally think I’m going to wait until the restored content DLC comes out. I played it with and without the restored content mod, and I don’t think I could play it again without. And after I get a chance to run to the store and buy a memory card, because KOTOR and KOTOR 2 are too big to have on the Switch together without one
What's worse about the RCM is that the old save won't be compatible with the dlc. So you'll have to start a new save for it and what's worse with that, apperently there's a bug that if you start a new save, your old save gets nuked.
Seeing as I never played the second game and had just recently finished the first, I was initially planning to straight-up buy the game in its base, unfinished form as I didn’t think they would add a mod as a dlc. Guess I’m waiting a bit longer 😔
I remember playing this game back when it was still relatively new. The random crashes were definitely a feature, tells used to be nightmarish since it would happen on loading screens and being a kid I wandered around alot not getting much done or dying & getting kicked to desktop
It appears as if the Switch versions of Kotor take the graphics from the old XBOX version and upscales them with AI to meet the quality of the PC graphics. And from what I can tell from the Kotor 2 version, it appears as if the devs half-assed the upscaling in a few areas. This is why the textures of NPCs and locations look different on the Switch then on PC.
KOTOR 2 is basically Star Ward’s equivalent of Halo 2. Both being direct Sequels to early 2000s best games, that were rushed to completion due to high demands. Which despite that, it didn’t changed the massive lore and Story telling it managed to deliver.

If I had to guess why they are doing the DLC later it’s so people who play the original and then the Restored Content after truly see the differences between the two. This also banks on people playing the game twice (with and without the restored) which is a big gamble.
@@colbymarin3912 you have been waiting 20 yrs for kotor 2 to come out on a Nintendo console??? Lol after 20 years I would have just got a pc and got it there 🤣
You can install the mod on the Steam Workshop for free. Steam does everything for you too. All you have to do is find the mod in your preferred language in the workshop, hit the subscribe button and boom, you're set.
I am going to wait for the RCM bc I actually played KOTOR 2 very recently on PC but I made the mistake of playing it without the mod and although I liked it, it def felt like I was missing some stuff.
Man i played kotor2 lile 20 times in my teenage years always trying to find new routes for dialogues and choices, unlocked everything for every character in both sides (no spoilers), and always felt frustrated that at some point in dantooine it felt like i was missing out stuff, same for the last part of the game. Imagine my surprise when i learned about the restored content mod, i know it's been up for pc for some time, but i don't game in pc anymore. Was lucky to buy the game just a few weeks ago in a sale, and boy, the game is top experience. Im enjoying myself so much i haven't even mind the game has the exact same glitches and bugs i saw years ago. And the fact they announced the RCM is extremely hype for me, seems like there will be kotor for months for me haha
I've currently run into a problem around the return to Onderon after the basilisk droid cutscene the game repeatedly crashes I'm hoping the restored content DLC fixes it but any other fixes would be appreciated. Update: I found out you can access the cheat menu by clicking the left joystick three times during the character select in the mandalorian camp open the cheat menu and select 504OND it'll take you to the sky ramp area skipping the merchant quarter that keeps crashing.
KOTOR 2 soundtrack is worth listening. It got its official release at long last. Damn I got scared when muh 1 hour loops got copyright claimed. Rebuilt Jedi council is such an awesome track.
I started playing KOTOR 2 on Steam before I knew they were doing the Switch release (and no, it wasn't the extended version) and some of the bugs I had were annoying. There was a bug on Dantooine where the enemies were impossible to kill and my lightsaber and Visas's lightsaber vanished. Also, the boss fight between Mira and the wookiee didn't trigger for me and I ended up getting really frustrated running around the academy as Mira, unable to proceed because I kept getting destroyed by the dark Jedi. I almost threw my keyboard through my laptop screen. It wasn't until I checked a walkthrough later that I was supposed to use her in a boss fight rather than going into the academy.
I’ve found that crashes occur mostly when I’m at the workbench, building and upgrading items and equipping them to different companions over and over again. But that has also happened on the IOS port for me. Other than that, I agree about the cutscenes, and I’ve had weird animations freeze, like the mine spheres, and hyperspace when in the Ebon Hawk, and water (or Kolto) being solid instead of translucent (can’t see Sion breaking out of his Kolto tank). Plus little audio cut-outs, like footsteps or blaster fire will be silent. And I DID get the infamous “Dantooine black screen” glitch when everything literally goes black when trying to return to Dantooine after finding all the Masters. Ultimately, it runs smooth and looks nice, but it’s very buggy. More than I remember on the PC, but it’s been a while. All that being said, I had been playing on IOS for too long, so it was nice to have a “controller” feel again on the Switch for me personally. So I have to admit I’m split about whether it’s worth it for Switch or not.
I'm Starwars mad at the moment!! (Something in the water?!) never played this and found it on switch the other day. It does play well on the console (controller wise). The crashes not so much but adds character!! 😅✌️
I'm like 99% sure that the HUD fade out is in the Xbox version, because I remember it happening, and my first run of the game was on the original Xbox, and I've played it a handful of times on the Xbox One.
thanks for being honest cause I just fininishing kotor 1 and I was thinking about getting 2 but nah im just going to wait for kotor remake and jedi survior
Trying to decide what I want to do. Loved Kotor 1 on Switch. But I feel just like with Kotor 1, I need to wait for (at least) fixes for a few things prior to TSLRCM. In the mean time I am considering firing up the OG Xbox ver. In my retro setup. Any thoughts? Should I hold off and just play the OG or just do multiple Switch version playthroughs? (PC I cant access for a while and Mobile is bot in the cards either atm) I will be doing at least 2 runs no matter what mind you.
I love this game, it's my favourite game. This is the best story line what i had played. I love Visas Marr she is so exciting. Recently i found your channel i have watched videos about Raven and i liked it, TY for your work. Hello from Ukraine. Made the force be with you all.
Watching the review I am greeted with exactly what I expected. It is Kotor 2 except it's just on the switch. Play it if you got Kotor 1 free on the kindle and liked it enough to wants it's sequel on another handheld console.
I just caught wind of this, thanks to The Heritage Pack. Not sure if the saves issue persists but so far I'm 30 plus saves deep and I've yet to encounter no issues with it. Hopefully the claims of it having the deleted content are true because, I simultaneously also bought the Android port and boy, is it rough in comparison. The most glaring issue being, on your 2nd visit to Dantooine, the game will crash. Also the Escaped Criminals TSF Bounty is straight up unclaimable, as the criminals themselves were part of the cut content. On their place, it's just some random mercs. However, for some reason, animations don't work on the Switch. Whereas on the Android port, they do. Examples being the dancing twilek cantina billboards on Telos and the mines. Not to mention, I just noticed on the Android port, some stores inventory and quest rewards are random. Haven't checked this on the consoles version, let alone on the Switch. Is this completely normal? Hopefully the Switch version does have the removed content, as I'm interested on the planet M478.
49:55 As someone who doesn't own a pc I've only ever played KOTOR 1 & 2 backwards through compatibility, and the hud fade out does happen, although it gets canceled even with lightsaber activation and flourish.
I'm able to say yes 0:01 into the video. I've never played KOTOR or its series before and never really got into Star Wars lore. After playing KOTOR 1, I have dived DEEEEEEEP. The only part about kotor2 I don't like so far are the forced droid sections x.x but YES
Huh. I've never played the vanilla version on PC since like, the time the game was new/current. Once restored content mod came out, that's the ONLY version I've ever played. Never once made it unplayable for me.
I only got into kotor last year, played 1 once on xbox series and stopped at the start of 2, glad I waited on playing more, with this release on switch with the restored content
i hope they can fix some of the bugs like the random crashes and the dialogue skip issue but if they cant maybe the dlc will fix somethings like you said the mod does im enjoying the game so far regardless
I enjoyed the base game back in the day. Roughly how much content does the restored content dlc add? Never knew about it when I was younger and would love to see what I missed out on
I got stuck in a loading loop when you have to fight the sith troopers who board the ebon hawk. After clearing the ship out, it kept trying to start the fight over again. Had to load the autosave
As a totally new player if KOTOR 2 I'm enjoying the game. I like the story. Only thing I've found is some lag and selecting on leveling up screen is hard to see what your picking When is the Mod DLC coming, and will it be free as we've already bought the game?
@@100StarWars nah, the crime was commited back in 2011 when Karpyshyn came up with his lame ass canonical Exile in that atrocity of a book that he spitted out
I only even bought KotOR 1 on Switch so I could have a version that I can play with a gamepad (I prefer gamepad play whenever possible), so I'm not really sure this is worth it for me. I have the Steam version; the Steam version supports gamepad play, unlike KotOR 1, and it works like a dream, *and* mods can be freely applied. Still, I do want the money men to know that KotOR 2 is a game they should support... hm.
deffo waiting for the restored content mod. like you said id rather them have just deleayed it and released it all together. id have been more than happy to wait
I do have one question, even if this is going to be my first time playing this, if I plan on doing a Light Side playthrough and then a Dark Side later on, is it still fine to play the game now without the DLC and do the Dark Side when it comes out or should I just wait for the DLC to do both?
My issue with the release is that cutscenes play at an unbearable volume. Even if I set the cutscene volume to minimum in the settings window, its volume is unaffected and vastly louder than normal ingame. I cant watch the transition videos on my switch because I'll bust an eardrum. Also yeah I noticed a few issues as well, like the hyperspace is static, sometimes mines just sort of.. stop.. have had 2 hard crashes so far, thankfully only lost maybe 5 minutes in total to it.
@@TheMoistDonuts To be fair, M4-78 was 90% fan-created. The voice-acting, quests, everything except for the environments and character models weren't officially made by Obsidian or LucasArts. So there'd be some pretty messy legal issues if they tried to put it in the DLC.
Honestly, not including M4-78 was probably a good call. Setting aside all the legal issues...the planet was just really boring to play through. I honestly hated my time with it and really had to force myself through it. I uninstalled it immediately after finishing my PC playthrough and never looked back. Most of the reviews I've seen echo that same sentiment. To be frank, if they did actually include M4-78 as a required piece of the restored content mod, that would be enough reason for me to avoid the port. altogether. I played through the planet once and have no desire to do so ever again. That content was cut for good reason in my opinion.
Am I going to be able to play KOTOR 2 with the restored content on my mobile app? Great video my friend because I'm enjoying KOTOR 2 even though like I keep saying it can be hard and fun. I'll ask the same question again is it better playing KOTOR 2 on Xbox, mobile app or Nintendo Switch?
yes, just yes,it has a few problems here and there, like the games shuts down some times like every 5 hours if you go nonstop(save often)and that's about it
Would I be missing out on much if I do a light side playthrough now, and a dark side playthrough with the restored content? Will it make my light side playthrough seem incomplete? I've beaten the game plenty of times as a kid, but never played the restored content.
I am waiting for that restored content mod. I played it on my Xbox nearly four years ago, and hated how it is incomplete, and pales to nothing compared to kotor one. I hope the restored content will change my mind, I can't wait until it's eventual release, when I will buy it.
i remember playing Kotor 2 on PC when it first came out and bein very WTF with the mahoosive shit show that was initial release, CTD constantly and randomly, ending just proper crashed so never actually fully completed it, and overall a sour experience. I have the RCM version on my pc on steam but not got round to it as became a dad just before covid hit and its been a riot since. maybe get it on switch to play snatched moments is easier than on pc. I have heard it also has a game breaking bug halfway through thats not fixed
i still wish their was a kotor 3. With you playing as revan and the exile witht hem facing off against the sith empire and emperor and saw what happened.
The game crashes, save files sometimes get corrupted, in battles the game sometimes chooses the same action 3 more for me. I had my fun with the game and want to play another run, but i will wait for next patch
How did the swoop bike racing work? When I played the original Xbox version, I couldn’t get the swoop bikes to jump and couldn’t ever complete that part of the game. (Note: I was playing it on the Xbox 360 using the OG Xbox disk, but I’m not sure why that would affect anything.)
@@colbymarin3912 Yeah, KOTOR2 had swoop bike racing early on, but there were obstacles you needed to avoid. And the ones that blocked the bottom of the track needed to be jumped/boosted over. I was able to complete it on PC, but never on Xbox.

You might as well start playing because that's not happening. TSLRCM is coming as DLC but that's it. It doesn't really fix anything. Just adds stuff.
If I had to guess why they are doing the DLC later it’s so people who play the original and then the Restored Content after truly see the differences between the two. This also banks on people playing the game twice (with and without the restored) which is a big gamble.
With this game I don't think is even a little gamble. Not sure how old you are but I have been waiting for like 20 years for this
@@colbymarin3912 you have been waiting 20 yrs for kotor 2 to come out on a Nintendo console??? Lol after 20 years I would have just got a pc and got it there 🤣
Interesting review. Really hope this game doesn't end up in the Porting Disaster page in TV Tropes with these in mind.
8:34 Mira entering the Jekk Jekk Tarr without a Space Suit is one of the MANY bugs fixed in TSLRCM.
Best Star Wars story ever. Also best voice acting ever from Sara Kestelman.
Amen.
I’m glad they ported this I been waiting and actually just finished the kotor port
I'm really looking forward to the Restored Content DLC. I'm hoping we'll get a port of the DLC to the PC eventually too.
Dude. The pc has the restored content, the game comes bundled with the mods nowadays on Steam at least
You can install the mod on the Steam Workshop for free. Steam does everything for you too. All you have to do is find the mod in your preferred language in the workshop, hit the subscribe button and boom, you're set.
Agreed! My favorite Star Wars game of all time. lol Played it through about 20ish times.
Love the idea of playing my favorite star wars game on the switch. Def waiting for the restored content tho as you suggested.
Thanks for letting us know about the dlc mod, I'm going to wait to pick this up until that drops.
Report it to them if you can!
KOTOR 2 soundtrack is worth listening. It got its official release at long last.
Damn I got scared when muh 1 hour loops got copyright claimed. Rebuilt Jedi council is such an awesome track.
KotOR 2 is likely the greatest game I've ever played. Or, at the very least it's one of the best written STORIES I've ever experienced.
Such an underrated Star wars Game. *Republic Commando* 2006 &
*Rogue Squadron* on 98 PC are not Far Behind..!
Oh man, the hud disappearing. I think that *was* in the Xbox version because the nostalgia hit me like a wave. Nice that they brought it back
Thanks for this video. I'll hold off buying until the restored content becomes available but for now I'll make do with Kotor 2 and TSLRCM on my phone.
So I’d the gameplay in the video from the switch or pc? Another Great video as always mate!
For me too, it's one of the best games of my childhood and adolescence, can I buy a physical copy of the game or is it only dematerialized?
I agree with everything you said about the restored content mod.
I'm Starwars mad at the moment!! (Something in the water?!) never played this and found it on switch the other day. It does play well on the console (controller wise). The crashes not so much but adds character!! 😅✌️
2004: Rushed out before the contant could be fixed.
2022: Rushed out before the content could be fixed.
Have they fixed any of the problems since?
I'm like 99% sure that the HUD fade out is in the Xbox version, because I remember it happening, and my first run of the game was on the original Xbox, and I've played it a handful of times on the Xbox One.
thanks for being honest cause I just fininishing kotor 1 and I was thinking about getting 2 but nah im just going to wait for kotor remake and jedi survior
I'd wait for the restored content mod and then give it a go!
@@100StarWars ok thanks
Trying to decide what I want to do. Loved Kotor 1 on Switch. But I feel just like with Kotor 1, I need to wait for (at least) fixes for a few things prior to TSLRCM.
In the mean time I am considering firing up the OG Xbox ver. In my retro setup.
Any thoughts? Should I hold off and just play the OG or just do multiple Switch version playthroughs?
(PC I cant access for a while and Mobile is bot in the cards either atm)
I will be doing at least 2 runs no matter what mind you.
On replaying KOTOR I on Switch, Sometimes have the issue of the background music mostly drowning out the dialogue, repeated here?
I'm able to say yes 0:01 into the video. I've never played KOTOR or its series before and never really got into Star Wars lore. After playing KOTOR 1, I have dived DEEEEEEEP. The only part about kotor2 I don't like so far are the forced droid sections x.x but YES
I am a bit sad about the bugs. I tried the restored content version on pc and it made the game unplayable. Thanks for the review
Huh. I've never played the vanilla version on PC since like, the time the game was new/current. Once restored content mod came out, that's the ONLY version I've ever played. Never once made it unplayable for me.
It's still worth giving a go when it comes out!
@@100StarWars I don't know what he thinks was unplayable about it. lol
Had to load the autosave
damn man two videos in a day? I love it.
;)
it can be done docked. shrink the screen size and it will look right.
The Hudson fades on Xbox but even playing on a series X model its old format and square but not here. It's full screen and beautiful
As a totally new player if KOTOR 2 I'm enjoying the game. I like the story. Only thing I've found is some lag and selecting on leveling up screen is hard to see what your picking When is the Mod DLC coming, and will it be free as we've already bought the game?
It's gonna be weird not playing as brown haired Meetra Surik; but I'm still excited.
everytime I use the blonde one i feel like I'm committtng a crime.
@@100StarWars nah, the crime was commited back in 2011 when Karpyshyn came up with his lame ass canonical Exile in that atrocity of a book that he spitted out
Imagine if Aspyr add Unlimite world texture mod too. Every skin and asset is enhance even better in 4k
The greenish cutscenes look familiar to me. I played back then the physical cd version on the pc.
Yeah... very confused why they didn't do that.
I’ve been playing it for almost 18 years without the restored content, I can wait till it’s released before buying it again!
Any tips gameplay wise for peeps coming fresh off the first game?
Im honestly really frustrated that the dlc isn’t on console
Aren't we all . I think it wouldn't take them nothing to put this on PlayStation and Xbox so that we all can benefit as we wait for the remake . Smh 😔
That's why I stick to PC. Eventually, everything comes to PC.
you mean in general or with this release? Restored content DLC is coming.
@@dathip in general and by console I mean Xbox
@@musclespasam4383 ok
The switch gets both KOTORs meanwhile I'm over here starving on my ps4
Hahaha - you've got the remake ;P
With them releasing the restored content as a later DLC is going too make the game more worth buying.
It's a pity the Restored Content DLC won't include M4-78, but it's still good to see the must-have mod officially supported.
It won't? I thought I remember reading that it will :(
Darn. Idk if I want it then.
@@TheMoistDonuts To be fair, M4-78 was 90% fan-created. The voice-acting, quests, everything except for the environments and character models weren't officially made by Obsidian or LucasArts. So there'd be some pretty messy legal issues if they tried to put it in the DLC.
@@Double-R-Nothing still. I'd rather have Lonna Vash alive than dead :(
Lol
@@TheMoistDonuts Yeah well, the mod basically changes her fate from "DOA" to "delaying the inevitable".
I'm encountering a bug that prevents me from moving forward and finishing the return to Onderon mission
have you reported this to aspyr?
I am waiting for that restored content mod. I played it on my Xbox nearly four years ago, and hated how it is incomplete, and pales to nothing compared to kotor one. I hope the restored content will change my mind, I can't wait until it's eventual release, when I will buy it.
I've played modded KotOR so many times, I don't think I could ever play the vanilla versions of them again.
I’ll wait for the restored content mod. I have the OG Xbox version so I’m looking forward to what’s going to be a new experience for me.
i remember playing Kotor 2 on PC when it first came out and bein very WTF with the mahoosive shit show that was initial release, CTD constantly and randomly, ending just proper crashed so never actually fully completed it, and overall a sour experience.
Welp, this is a “Wait” if I’ve ever seen one. Cheers mate!
The biggest irritation for me is the doublebladed lightsaber handle that glitches in textures... Hopefully it is fixed on Switch
Hey 100% Star Wars how do you feel about the Kotor remake with how well they’ve done with the ports of 1 and 2
I have never played the game before but i really want to, do we know when the mod is coming already?
The grainy cutscenes actually do occur on my pc, sadly. It maybe has sth to do with the graphic chipset.
The game crashes, save files sometimes get corrupted, in battles the game sometimes chooses the same action 3 more for me. I had my fun with the game and want to play another run, but i will wait for next patch
Just what I was looking for
How did the swoop bike racing work? When I played the original Xbox version, I couldn’t get the swoop bikes to jump and couldn’t ever complete that part of the game. (Note: I was playing it on the Xbox 360 using the OG Xbox disk, but I’m not sure why that would affect anything.)
Jump? It's been a while since I played but I don't remember jumping the swoop bikes
@@colbymarin3912 Yeah, KOTOR2 had swoop bike racing early on, but there were obstacles you needed to avoid. And the ones that blocked the bottom of the track needed to be jumped/boosted over. I was able to complete it on PC, but never on Xbox.
@@colbymarin3912 Pretty sure it was the Nar Shaada track, but I don’t 100% remember. It’s been years since I’ve played it.
