About the part on the combat where ya said you couldn't stack attacks, to queue an attack is a different button then the confirm button, on xbox it was x to queue and A to take action
Still have my original xbox copy, I have a series x but haven't played it on there. Would be interesting to see comparison between switch and xbox enhanced version.
Incase if anyone was wondering, you can still que your attacks with the "x" button for 3 additional attacks. In the review it was stated you couldn't but you can. Great review

@@SwitchUpYt What about the excellent Restored Content Mod? I know Aspyr officially supported it via the Steam workshop and as a downloadable for their iOS port of Kotor 2, but I don’t know of it could make it onto the eShop.
I feel like being able to change the difficulty in-game at any time is a criminally underrated feature. Always happy when games have it, even if I never use it. Love that I have that option.
I always cry when games have this, its the worst feature that has made its way into general game design ever - Totally destroys the feel of challenge and accomplishment for me. I greatly appreciate games that implement it like an iron man mode, like you can switch down from hard, but not back up.
@@crtnn accessibility is always a good thing. Some games (especially old games) love to just have random difficulty spikes that make it near impossible to beat for some. Allowing people to change difficulty when they come across a section they can’t personally beat is always a good thing imo
The particle effect slowdown has definitely always been there. I’ve replayed KOTOR more times than I’d like to admit on different platforms and that particular moment of slowdown at the beginning of the game with the dark Jedi is burned into my memory lol
KotOR really is one of the best rpgs. If someone hasn't played it I highly recommend you do so without spoilers!! I have it backwards compatible on my Xbox Series X but mayyy buy again on Switch OLED. I also own on Steam lol. The Apspyr Switch republic commando didn't look any different than xbox version on a series x so glad to hear this one actually is improved
@@snaiilaxx8510 It’s one of the best games of it’s time, but you’ll definitely appreciate it much more if you at least watch the first six movies. There are lots of subtle references and hints towards those films, but if not, it’s still a great game.
For anyone unsure still, I'd say if you want to experience one of the best star wars stories, with characters and writing to match, then go for it. It might not start with much of a bang, and gameplay will no doubt be improved in the remake in 2023/24 or whenever, but the script and its execution will mean the original will never be truly obsolete. Oh and it's nice and cheap too which is great to see :)

@@user-bj1mx2ip1c Each to their own, I personally found KOTOR 2 a lot better than KOTOR 1 in terms of story and narrative (gameplay and technicality, well, Obsidian was rushed so KOTOR 2 was incomplete before the Restored Content mod), but then again I've always preferred Empire Strikes Back over A New Hope (which KOTOR 1 feels like).

I was 22 when this game came out. Looking forward to jumping back into this especially on the switch. I really couldn’t get into the iOS version a while back, it just felt wrong to play this masterpiece on a mobile phone. Great review, now to wait for the eshop to unlock the preorder! Gutted it wasn’t midnight release.

I was 10 yrs old when this came out, but sadly had NO idea it was even a thing. Its just one of those games that passed me until i was about 20 😓😓 I would’ve definitely loved this. So its my duty to try it out. Especially since Switch is my main console. Also, I like that Darth OLED😂👍🏼

KOTOR easily one of the best games of the 00s and a pinnacle of the genre, gambled on a preorder a few days back. Aspyr have generally done pretty well with ports and felt like it was one I was always going to pick up anyways 😅 Glad to hear yous found it a good enough port, looking forward to the usual play Taris four times before I settle on a suitable 'can-do-everything-to-avoid-the-FOMO' build 🤣
I just started playing this for the first time since about 2004/5 It’s way prettier than I expected from memory so I was glad to see some work had been done on it. I’m handheld it looks great and I’m on a nostalgia trip already 💛
There is one thing I want in this port, invulnerability toggle in the cheats. With the original game, you can make the character(s) invulnerable, but that’s not possible for this port.
I haven’t downloaded the game yet, so take this with a grain of salt, but I remember you have to press a different button to queue actions. One of them queues while the other is immediate. I’ll have to go over the controls to see which one, but that may explain the problem you were having.
I always wanted to play KOTOR. Back in the day I couldn't for lacking the platforms in which it was available, when I finally had the chance I bought it on Steam but I couldn't make it run, so I had to ask for a refund. I even entered a couple of hours in The Old Republic! Now with the Switch at hand it became the first game I ever preordered. I cannot wait to finally play it after work! Good review as usual, guys! You are always very precise when describing the tech side and don't go on rails with that if the game is good enough!
I've too also always wanted to play this game for a very long time. Bought it on my phone but couldn't get into it. Got it on Steam and Googled the fix for it coz it wasn't working either. Fixed it but discovered an extensive guide on how to mod it to run really well. Spent about 5 hours installing all the mods and I've been loving this game since. Since I just bought it on pc. I'm not quite sure I want to pick it up on switch yet. But I certainly would love to, especially if they do a port for the second one. But I have heard the second one had some real bad problems and content cut that could be fixed by a community patch. Anyway time will tell.

Great review! I'm happy to see that this is a mostly good port!! KotOR is one of my favorite Star Wars games and being able to play it portability is a dream come true! Now I just wish they could also port the original Battlefront II if possible.
Well considering how rushed and messed up that game was back then (there so many errors and broken promises with that game that even Battlefront II 2017 felt like a better product overall (even now with how this game is after all the fixes and and content to the point that it became one of the best cases of Video Game Comebacks in history (alongside No Man's Sky))) that the reason it only stood the time because of two thing; The PC Version's Modding Community of that game which did what the developers did not (including fixing the game of many of it's problems and adding a lot of content) (Something that Console players will never have actually and the Switch Version will be the console version) and because of Free Radical's Bankruptcy which killed 07's Battlefront III which was supposed to be the Definitive Battlefront Game so we were stuck with that game
Man i got this game back on xbox when it first released. I went in blind not even knowing what the game mechanics were or even knowing it was an RPG. My friends were like "hey lets go get the new Star Wars game" and i was like "ok". Best random purchase ever and cemented my love for dnd style video games

I'm cautiously optimistic about the remake. Kotor is one of my favourite games of all time, so the idea of playing it with modern graphics and gameplay is very intriguing. As long as the core gameplay remains an RPG I'll be happy.
I was 35 when this was first released (ok so now I feel like yoda ). Glad to see this turned out better than the last few Star Wars game ports. I’ll definitely pick it up for my switch. I hope that someone can port X-Wing vs Tie Fighter and implement a multi-player.
I haven't seen a comment stating it yet so I'll post it up. You can que up different attacks. Use the D Pad to select attack and Press A to add it to your attack que. More attacks are available through cycling Up & Down with the D Pad as well. (Once unlocked through leveling and spending skill points)
KOTOR II is my favorite everything Star Wars, I hope this one does good enough so they release KOTOR II here as well and more people gets to enjoy it and experience it!
This was the first game I ever bought with my own money. Saved for long time by doing extra chores and saving birthday money. Pre-ordered it and got it day one. I loved the game so much, I still have the original xbox copy to this very day. Good times.

One of my favorite games of all time. I have it on my android phone and my ipad, and also pre-loaded onto the switch. Now im really just missing Chrono Trigger and Vagrant Story on the switch. Square Enix, make it happen.
I had never played this game before, I love trying different types of RPG games and this was on sale for the switch recently, so I thought I'd give it a try. While the graphics have aged, what really does it for me is the soundtrack and voice acting. Every character feels unique, and I love that even when they don't speak english (or whatever language you have it on) the voice actors feel committed to delivering those lines. Can't wait to play through this the whole way!
The game is fantastic but there are a few quirks or glitches I noticed while playing that I'm not sure anyone has been pointing out. I largely just play vintage gaming so I notice these differences quickly but, For one, the lighting is brighter, but the areas with light sources like lamps or equipment generating light has an intense bloom effect that white washes the original intensity. Another glitch I encountered was every so often after performing a mini game (like dueling in the arena on Taris) all NPCs will become unavailable to talk to until you restart the game. And lastly, occasionally while voice acting, some characters rush through their lines as if the frame rate suddenly jerked up an extra 5 frames. These are very minor for sure, hopefully an update removes it all. All in all though, a fantastic port.

@@Sealy_boy very recommended, I have mine for about 4 months and If you got big hands the grip fits pretty well, the gyro it's perfect and the rumble it's a little strong but it's adjustable so it's ok
My only concern about the remake is that it’s Aspyr making it. And whilst I don’t necessarily think they can’t do it, we just don’t know how good they are at making games outside iOS/ Android and switch ports of older games.

Proper widescreen is great but not sure I could play this without the texture mods, lighting mods, reshade, cut content and hi rez modifications on PC. Granted, modding all that would take a few hours before you're able to play and it won't support a controller (in a way that's worth it). It's cool this exists though, glad the love for KOTOR continues!
Just a note, on my iPad version I have always been able to stack up to 4 actions in combat. Feature should be in this version too if using the same code as the iOS version :)
I was around 25/26 and visited my sister who just finished university and got a house with her friends. I went round for a party and one of her friends was sat alone in the corner playing this on xbox and I found myself watching him play it. That weekend I bought an xbox and this game and still to this day is one of the best Star Wars games.
Played this back in 2005 on my PC. And by damn, this is one of my favorite Generation 6 games alongside Kingdom Hearts, Metroid Prime and Paper Mario and the 1000 Year Door.

So excited for this to release on the switch, even if I've played it dozens of times over multiple consoles, this game is so much fun and an amazing story to experience. There are always people who haven't had the chance to enjoy this game and now they can experience it. Also, I had just recently graduated highschool when this game came out.
while I have Knights of the old republic on my Xbox one I'll certainly give the switch port a try plus having it in handheld form is kind of nice lets hope it just holds up well on the Lite version
Another one downloaded I need to actually play!!! I only played a bit of this on the original xbox all those years ago so having it on switch to take places with me I'm looking forward to diving into!
Maybe the only thing I would have changed with this version is an option to get out of a conversation anytime. On Taris, I got caught in an infinite conversation loop that I couldn’t exit and had to restart!
I started today feeling old. Watched this and am now convinced that I'm so old I'll be turning to dust by the time I go to bed (about 9pm... With a Horlicks)
I am actually more excited to play this game! I jumped into the jrpg and rpg games a bit late so I am catching up on legendary games of this nature. I love a game with a great story and lore! I will most likely be picking up this one. Thanks again for the great reviews

This game is almost perfect as far as true rpg’s go. The remake could be good, but I bet the new combat systems will just make it an assassins creed clone with rpg elements.
Gems like this, I don’t care much for the graphics as far as textures go. It’s the long, in depth story that made me fall in love with it. The music and the Star Wars atmosphere is definitely there. Just waiting for it to unlock. Thank you for the review!

I may check it out if I want a portable version, it's my favorite Star Wars game, got it on Steam with mods galore. Got a mod where a female protagonist can romance Bastila, which I got after I saw the option in my Kotor 2 mod where you can avoid all the "she loved Carth Onasi" lies. On Xbox I had to make my female protagonist turn dark to avoid that kind of dialogue in the sequel. Didn't always like how the alien language subtitles went by too fast, need Jade Empire's press next when you're ready
If you enjoy the KOTOR games, there's also the Mass Effect series, also from Bioware. It has more or less the same gameplay style and a similar sci-fi setting, just without the Jedi/Sith stuff.
I played this game a lot on the original Xbox. I'm very excited for the remake for PS5. I think I will download this version on my switch just to get back in touch with the story again. It's been like 11 years since I last played it lol. Great review.

Folks... Kotor is one of the goats. Star wars fan or not. INCREDIBLE story, characters and independent Bioware making the best wrpgs on earth.
For sure. My favorite games are pretty much all of bioware's games. KOTOR was my first real RPG and also my introduction to Star Wars as a whole.

Well considering how rushed and messed up that game was back then (there so many errors and broken promises with that game that even Battlefront II 2017 felt like a better product overall (even now with how this game is after all the fixes and and content to the point that it became one of the best cases of Video Game Comebacks in history (alongside No Man's Sky))) that the reason it only stood the time because of two thing; The PC Version's Modding Community of that game which did what the developers did not (including fixing the game of many of it's problems and adding a lot of content) (Something that Console players will never have actually and the Switch Version will be the console version) and because of Free Radical's Bankruptcy which killed 07's Battlefront III which was supposed to be the Definitive Battlefront Game so we were stuck with that game
Man i got this game back on xbox when it first released. I went in blind not even knowing what the game mechanics were or even knowing it was an RPG. My friends were like "hey lets go get the new Star Wars game" and i was like "ok". Best random purchase ever and cemented my love for dnd style video games
May have already been commented but you can stack multiple moves in battle, just press X, A instead clears the queue and adds a new action.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the remake. Kotor is one of my favourite games of all time, so the idea of playing it with modern graphics and gameplay is very intriguing. As long as the core gameplay remains an RPG I'll be happy.

I was 35 when this was first released (ok so now I feel like yoda ). Glad to see this turned out better than the last few Star Wars game ports. I’ll definitely pick it up for my switch.
I hope that someone can port X-Wing vs Tie Fighter and implement a multi-player.

I haven't seen a comment stating it yet so I'll post it up. You can que up different attacks. Use the D Pad to select attack and Press A to add it to your attack que.
More attacks are available through cycling Up & Down with the D Pad as well. (Once unlocked through leveling and spending skill points)
KOTOR II is my favorite everything Star Wars, I hope this one does good enough so they release KOTOR II here as well and more people gets to enjoy it and experience it!
This was the first game I ever bought with my own money. Saved for long time by doing extra chores and saving birthday money. Pre-ordered it and got it day one. I loved the game so much, I still have the original xbox copy to this very day. Good times.

One of my favorite games of all time. I have it on my android phone and my ipad, and also pre-loaded onto the switch.
Now im really just missing Chrono Trigger and Vagrant Story on the switch. Square Enix, make it happen.

I had never played this game before, I love trying different types of RPG games and this was on sale for the switch recently, so I thought I'd give it a try. While the graphics have aged, what really does it for me is the soundtrack and voice acting. Every character feels unique, and I love that even when they don't speak english (or whatever language you have it on) the voice actors feel committed to delivering those lines. Can't wait to play through this the whole way!
play through this game every other year and I love it more and more every time...
The game is fantastic but there are a few quirks or glitches I noticed while playing that I'm not sure anyone has been pointing out. I largely just play vintage gaming so I notice these differences quickly but,
For one, the lighting is brighter, but the areas with light sources like lamps or equipment generating light has an intense bloom effect that white washes the original intensity.
Another glitch I encountered was every so often after performing a mini game (like dueling in the arena on Taris) all NPCs will become unavailable to talk to until you restart the game.
And lastly, occasionally while voice acting, some characters rush through their lines as if the frame rate suddenly jerked up an extra 5 frames.
These are very minor for sure, hopefully an update removes it all.
All in all though, a fantastic port.
Darth OLED looks great! Would you recommend the Split Pad Pro despite its lack of gyro and rumble?
This isn’t the split pad pro. I think these are called Bingbok or something on Amazon and they have 6 axis gyro. Mark

@@Sealy_boy very recommended, I have mine for about 4 months and If you got big hands the grip fits pretty well, the gyro it's perfect and the rumble it's a little strong but it's adjustable so it's ok

My only concern about the remake is that it’s Aspyr making it. And whilst I don’t necessarily think they can’t do it, we just don’t know how good they are at making games outside iOS/ Android and switch ports of older games.

Proper widescreen is great but not sure I could play this without the texture mods, lighting mods, reshade, cut content and hi rez modifications on PC. Granted, modding all that would take a few hours before you're able to play and it won't support a controller (in a way that's worth it). It's cool this exists though, glad the love for KOTOR continues!

Just a note, on my iPad version I have always been able to stack up to 4 actions in combat. Feature should be in this version too if using the same code as the iOS version :)
I was around 25/26 and visited my sister who just finished university and got a house with her friends. I went round for a party and one of her friends was sat alone in the corner playing this on xbox and I found myself watching him play it. That weekend I bought an xbox and this game and still to this day is one of the best Star Wars games.
Played this back in 2005 on my PC. And by damn, this is one of my favorite Generation 6 games alongside Kingdom Hearts, Metroid Prime and Paper Mario and the 1000 Year Door.

If I remember correctly you had to press A to stack your next turn, but you had to use the X button to stack multiples. Don't ask me why.

I always doubted Switch can handle some ported games, but watching your videos kept me away from canceling my Switch OLED order ( my first Switch :D ). And I can't wait for it.

So excited for this to release on the switch, even if I've played it dozens of times over multiple consoles, this game is so much fun and an amazing story to experience. There are always people who haven't had the chance to enjoy this game and now they can experience it. Also, I had just recently graduated highschool when this game came out.

while I have Knights of the old republic on my Xbox one I'll certainly give the switch port a try plus having it in handheld form is kind of nice lets hope it just holds up well on the Lite version

Maybe the only thing I would have changed with this version is an option to get out of a conversation anytime. On Taris, I got caught in an infinite conversation loop that I couldn’t exit and had to restart!

I saw it on PC when I was 7. Played it on my phone when I was 20. Looks like I might play it on switch this Christmas
I am actually more excited to play this game! I jumped into the jrpg and rpg games a bit late so I am catching up on legendary games of this nature. I love a game with a great story and lore! I will most likely be picking up this one.

This game is almost perfect as far as true rpg’s go. The remake could be good, but I bet the new combat systems will just make it an assassins creed clone with rpg elements.
Gems like this, I don’t care much for the graphics as far as textures go. It’s the long, in depth story that made me fall in love with it. The music and the Star Wars atmosphere is definitely there. Just waiting for it to unlock. Thank you for the review!

I may check it out if I want a portable version, it's my favorite Star Wars game, got it on Steam with mods galore. Got a mod where a female protagonist can romance Bastila, which I got after I saw the option in my Kotor 2 mod where you can avoid all the "she loved Carth Onasi" lies. On Xbox I had to make my female protagonist turn dark to avoid that kind of dialogue in the sequel. Didn't always like how the alien language subtitles went by too fast, need Jade Empire's press next when you're ready
Why don't they remake or make these type of genre anymore. Love this game.
If you enjoy the KOTOR games, there's also the Mass Effect series, also from Bioware. It has more or less the same gameplay style and a similar sci-fi setting, just without the Jedi/Sith stuff.
I played this game a lot on the original Xbox. I'm very excited for the remake for PS5. I think I will download this version on my switch just to get back in touch with the story again. It's been like 11 years since I last played it lol. Great review.
