    The way to fix the rattle is by stuffing small strips of leather and ramming them into the base of the shaft with the blade one at a time til it bottoms out. Then you tap it on the ground untill the tip settles into the leather. Then there is no more rattle.

    The best functional sword canes and swird sticks on the market at a reasonable price are Cold Steel. They run about $100 & are bulletproof. They are fully functional and don't rattle like the rest of them and are made of very well hest treated 420C SS. They do require a bit of sharpening if you want to cut with them but do come adequately sharp from the factory. Styling is their only drawback and is limited to basic black and silver. The canes themselves are made of aluminum and can be used as a weapon without worry.. If you want a funtional sword cane or sword stick that you can actually put to hard use, Cold Steel is where it's at

    I like your review I know it's quite old but I just thought I'd mention that the cold Steelers are about the best production-wise price wise matched to that now and there's some really nice ones from windlass steelcraft 2 on crippled and I use one every day

    Turn awesome looking cane sword you could probably stop the rattle with some leather strips down the sheath or a pocket at the end of the cane for the tip to rest in just an idea

    Do you think the cane 'scabbard' could be modified in some way to get rid of the rattling?

    • @medievalreview
      @medievalreview  9 лет назад +2

      it possible I suppose but the opening isn't all that large, I wouldn't know of a good way to do it.

    • @MrJonniman007
      @MrJonniman007 8 лет назад +3

      +MuikuliWander dont know if you are still interested in ideas, but maybe you could put a bit of foam or wool into the tip of the scabbard to secure the balde

    • @BaronVonQuiply
      @BaronVonQuiply 5 лет назад

      @@MrJonniman007 I did that with a bit of polyester "cotton",using the blade to puch it down the scabbard, but I find that the cane only smacks against the inside (not really a rattle) when struck from the side. So in normal use as a cane, the force will come edge-to-edge and the blade won't really move. I also glued a bit of fleece to the metal cap where the blade would slide along it - this both protects the blade and makes it super-snug. Now you can tug on it and not tell it's got a sword inside.

    What about a sitting Great Dane wooden carved Dog sword cane? It belonged to my an ancestor . I will like to know , where it comes from. If interest where can I send you it pictures. My ancestors were from Ireland, Spain, Italy and France. My ancestor immigrated to Mexico and United States.
    Thank you.

    I was told by a Hanwei sales rep that the head was not removable. Have you taken one down, photos maybe? I have one and am thinking of customizing it some. Did a review of it on the site I purchased it from. We have the same take on it. I hear a lil newspaper stuffed into the very bottom of the scabbard can fix the rattle. If you use metal polish and not oil to upkeep the blade, the paper shouldn't rot.

    • @medievalreview
      @medievalreview  9 лет назад +2

    PATTERN-WELDED its not DAMASCUS .. Damascus steel has those properties because due to its unique preparation with various chemicals made the steel have those patterns. And it was done for the first time in damascus hence Damascus steel. Patern welded , its just folded steel.. or twisted in some case . People , know the difference

    I think this would not be the best choice for anyone requiring a functional walking stick. The rattle would drive you nuts and attract notice. Without the rubber tip it is useless as a walking cane.
    I understand why you like it but anyone needing something more practical and less distinctive in appearance, I think Cold Steel's Heavy Duty sword cane would be a better choice. It does not rattle when walking with it. The stick is very strong and can take a lot of weight for a person requiring physical support. The stick without the sword is a weapon itself, as it can take a lot of abuse.
    I also prefer the Heavy Duty's blade. It is a very sharp blade that is not overly flexible and can be driven into things without robbing the force via flexing. The back edge is sharpened for the first eight eight inches or so, which improves penetration.
    The bird dog is lovely and interesting to look upon, but for a functional sword cane, it would not be my first or even second choice. For making an elegant impression, the bird dog is the way to go.
    Because they are illegal in so many places, sword stick sales are not what many had hoped for. I think everyone has wanted one at some time.😎
    Cold Steel appears to be selling off the sword sticks cheap, in favour of the "axe cane" and that ugly Steven Seagal stick.
    The are all strong plastic with no metal, at all.
    This was a good review. I do not like this bird dog but many will, I think.

      You seems to forgot that those sword canes are based on the old sword canes which rapier swords in a cane.
      The problem with heavy duty sword cane is that its not designed for fencing and any other single handed martial arts but more designed to be a two handed sword like longswords and katanas.
      These sword canes are actually very good for self defence since fencing and other single handed techniques focuses a great deal on defence and speed.
      it may not be a good choice if you are fighting someone with heavy armor and longsword but what kind of a thief or gangster dresses like an knight and uses a claymore nowadays?
