Victorian self-defence and novelty canes. The shotgun cane is likely to be a poacher's item. You probably require a shotgun licence to own it.

That might depend on the condition of the firing mechanism say for instance the firing pin is clipped and the chamber plugged properly it might be considered deactivated

Firstly, to what are your referring, when you mention *it?*
We saw four canes and one ring, so try being specific.
Secondly, whatever *it* was is part of a collection and not something that cost a week's pocket money, unless you are the offspring of someone disgustingly rich.
      Collectors collect.
To break up a collection can be extremely costly.
Doubtless,*it* was collected and any similar can only be had from Phill and other collectors like him, a dealer or an auction house.
These are antiques, not some mass produced trinket from a third world country.

They were sold widely as were pistols, for defence. It was a legal right to carry them up to 1953. They were never intended for assassins.
He needs to learn his history.

Unsinn , solche Stöcke hat es überall in Europa und sicher auch Nord - und Südamerika gegeben, da ein Spazierstock bis in die 1930er Jahre ein verbreitetes Herrenutensil waren. Nonsens! Such canes existed everywhere in Europe and the Americas, in the time up to 1930s a cane was a popular gentlemans acessory.

  • @brittakriep2938

Assasins canes? Pure nonsens! In the 1800s and up to 1920s/ 1930s a cane was a popular thing. In my youth in the 70s you still could See elder gentlemen with a cane, even they could still walk good without a cane as walking aid. Often they carried the cane in right hand and their dog at left hand. Formerly a cane was not only a walking aid, but also a sign of male authority and a beautifull cane was a sign of wealth and status. Now, after napoleonic wäre it was no more common, or forbidden to , open carry' pistols at belt or saddle holster, or to carry smallsword or saber as civilian. So pocket pistols ( Deringer/ Terzerol) became popular and daggers ( Stilleto or Pushdagger with T- shaped handle), or folders became popular. Also knuckle dusters and weapons ,in english language , Sap/ cosh/ Blackjack. An ordinary cane or a stick cut away from a bush ( in my swabian dialect Stecken) is useable as weapon, especially when you do some training. In 19th century lots of stick fencing manuals had been written and french ,la canne', defence de la rue, irisch Bata, british Bartitsu, italian , argentine, basque... stick technics had been popular. An elderly man, in his early 70s, told me some years ago, that even when his father was young, few people had a car. In those days one time a year was a great cattle market at the other side of a large forrest . The farmers, who wanted to visit the market to buy cattle marched through the forrest only in groups of three or more men, and everyone had a cane. When it was no more allowed or common, to carry saber or smallsword, most of upperclass men, and also some middleclass men, had some fencing training, because a gentleman should know this in those days, this had been the typical clients for sword canes. And the canes firing shotgun or pistol csrtidges had been bought also for selfdefence or from hunting gentlemen, for the case, that surprisingly small game appeares, of course also poachers used such canes, to trick policemen, forrest officals, rangers or game wardens.
