I recall my father telling me about a cane in .303 British.
It was one of the weapons they had in the Dutch underground in WW2. No idea who built it or if it started as an Enfield.

A modernized version of the Riley with a proper trigger and safety could sell well among survival enthusiasts. A walking stick, air rifle, and shelter pole rolled into one. Saves a lot of weight and space, no?

Could be. A modern one should definitely be lighter with improvements to metallurgy since the 1850s (think paintball reservoirs).

And you wouldn't have to include the pump, as there are already alternative ways to fill it. Just put a Foster fill nipple under a cap on the handle, and you can refill off a scuba tank, or something like a Hill hand pump, or even one of those Yong Heng compressors. I have one of those for my PCP air rifle. It would be a lot less trouble to use than it would have been back in the day these came out. And cheaper to make, not a bad idea. I like to say that in my own experience, the secret to happiness is learning to sort the occasional good idea from and endless body of bad ones, and this is pretty good idea. Better than it was back then, anyway.

Here in Germany canes which fire shotgun or pistol cartridges had been used both by poachers or hunting gentlemen, to shot surprisingly appearing small game.

I have an idea cane gun fans.
The Braverman Stinger is not considered an AOW becase you have to fold it to fire it.
    ruclips.net/video/HhnpKyORQy8/видео.html
What if you made a giant version?
It starts out as a straight shaft cane like the pneumatic gun seen here but to fire it you pull and then fold it.
Basically a Braverman Stinger supersized until it is big enough to use as a cane.
Sadly I suspect there is no way for an amateur gunsmith to find out if this would be legal.

Really, the fact that a person is knowledgeable doesn't necessarily mean s/he is a decent public speaker. Given the amount of money RIA takes in, there should be emough money available to hire a professional.
