This is an Americanized version of English trifle , it’s simple and it works. I add Drambuie or rum , but I definitely put liquor in it, about half a cup , at least .I use store bought pound cake .
I really appreciate that showing us that over here in the US we never would have thought or nothing like that butter my husband likes fruit so I guess one day I'll try to make it for a holiday or something like that or a party today I made Watergate salad
I agree. In a real trifle the cubes of cake would be drizzled with sherry or a liqueur. There would be thick pouring custard (not baked) and a lot more of it (the cake would be soaked). There would also be cubes of set jelly (jello).
i'm english too, do mine with jelly, custard whipped cream, and sprinkles on top yummy! dont know where this version came from but it looks good, probs will give it a try, thank you for shareing
Try and get a couple cans of Devon Custard, better than most for sure. Like the tip using orange juice to stop bananas from turning brown. I miss the M & S readymade trifles too.
Why do people have to be so critical of recipes ?.... so what if it is not authentic look up Authentic English Trifle...if that is so important or better yet why don’t you post a video. Lol I use RUclips recipes for ideas and inspiration. I take what is useful. If you already know how to make such a perfect Trifle why knock something else. What else do you need to judge and criticize? I appreciate the efforts of people who take the time to post recipes .. it takes a lot of planning to make something clear for those who don’t know how to cook!
This isnt an English trifle ..... this is a poor facsimile..... Real English trifle has custard...not instant pudding... it also has alcohol like sweet sherry, grand marnier etc ....this is like a short cut version for people who dont know how to make any desserts....
DDelilahM Dear Dear lighten up will ya. its a Trifle ha ha. Everyone makes different desserts. Have a cuppa. relax your mind and don't over think ha ha
@@newdudeinyoutube9431 Traditional English Trifle is sponge cake drizzled with booze, then fruit, then a custard made with eggs, then cream. How is that not natural?
Hello Fizan! Our recipes are always listed in the video description! Here's the recipe for English Trifle: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/8445/english-trifle/
That's not how we make an English trifle. English trifle has jelly in it that covers the fruit and cake. When it is set, then custard goes on the top, sprinkled with coconut.
Somehow I get the feeling this isn't English. Judging from the different one in the video suggestions to the right. Or are Trifles made with whatever You wish?
MemoGrafix There are variations, but a classic English trifle has a base of sponge cake (preferably soaked with sherry) which has red jelly poured over and left to set. Some people add fruit at this stage. On top of that goes a layer of blancmange - usually strawberry - then the custard, topped off with lightly whipped cream. Scatter hundreds and thousands, silver balls or vermicelli on top as desired.
What is it with you Americans?! ... please don't bastardise our English recipes!!! You are lovely but it's insulting to us. A good English trifle would NEVER use instant pudding mix!!! We always use good quality homemade custard. We soak sponge cake in brandy and/or sherry, making layers of soft, seasonal fruit (not bananas!), soaked sponge cake and top with good quality whipped cream.
now i KNOW y'all know this is not an english trifle. Where's the sherry soaked cake? why are there bananas?? it's custard instead of pudding! where's the jelly?? call it anything, but not english trifle

Betty Tina It's an American's idea of trifle. Not an English one.
Its better. More natural.

Sprinkled with hundreds and thousands or toasted almonds or both. Never heard of coconut but I guess there's no rules

I agree with the comments below. This is not an English trifle or how it is made. We make ours with jelly, custard and cream.
Ena matthews Strawberry blancmange btween the jelly and custard.
and sherry!
Yummy 😋
does look lovely.. but its not a English trifle, the fruit and cake gets mixed with Sherry and Jelly then has custard and cream.
Is the orange juice natural or package one
is it possible to use different fruits?
thank you.
what can I replace the almond with ?? any idea ?

Tis but a trifle ...
Ok why didn't you put beef sauted with peas and onions .
Which layer gets the booze?
The pudding is not heated?
Cakes are home made but you used instant pudding instead of home made custard?
can u tell ingrediants needed to prepare this
Gangu Gangadhariah Just listen to the video. It's all there !
You *forgot* the *JELLO*
if I can't find cherry what can I add
Whatever fruit you desire! Others have used kiwis, raspberries or more of the same fruit called for in the recipe.
No one shows how they remove and serve from this bowl ???!!
