      considering this is a 4kids show, this is amazing they went so far with stockman.
      you know. 4kids. who turn cigarrettes into lolipops, hell into the shadow realm, and generally avoids showing any gore or extreme violence. and death doesnt exist in their shows.
      but lo and behold we have mr baxter stockman. every failure he is shown dragged away only to be shown in his next appearence to be visibly mutilated. and then we get to the episode "insane in the membrain" (yes. that's what that episode was called) where stockman, in an attempt to get his old body cloned, actually succeeds at first... only for it to start breaking down and rotting due to stockmans impatience and not having more tests done to make the cloned body stable. it also visibly drives him insane.
      i almost feel like the 2003 tmnt is more mirage studios giving the middle finger to most of 4kids standards... and whoever was in charge of editing at 4kids must have been asleep at the wheel or on break whenever it was time to look over an episode of tmnt.
      2003 turtles is like, the anti-4kids cartoon.

      Wow, I never even knew that, who was the original TMNT archnemesis then?

    • @ilikerice5208
      @ilikerice5208 5 лет назад +65

      It was more the foot? He wasn’t a throw away villain, his presence was quite large and looming in the original comic series, but he himself only appeared in 4 issues, he was killed off in issue 1, as the original comic was released as a joke comic, and when it sold well the creators continued it. They have stated they didn’t want recurring villains, as it diminished the hero. And so they bought back shredder when they needed a large threat to get the turtles out of the city, as the creators had moved out of the city at the time, and wanted to have stories where the turtles were outside of New York. And so the shredder returned, and then the turtles fled to north Hampton, after he raided April’s apartment. About ten issues later they returned to New York, then within two issues Leo kills him by beheading him. But they often fought the foot clan. This culminated in the story line city at war, where after the death of shredder, the foot clan the foot clan start a gang war, basically they split up into factions and begin fighting for dominance. Leo doesn’t really care, as he was honour bound to fight the shredder but doesn’t really care about the foot clan ( the turtles only fight people if they have to within the original comics ). Karai who is not the shredders daughter in the comic, and is actually insinuated to be in charge of the actual foot clan, not just the New York rank. And the two join forces to take down the New York foot clan, with the agreement that once the foot clan has a new leader they will leave that turtles alone

    • @QuadraticSquared
      @QuadraticSquared 5 лет назад +38

      @@DaDualityofMan They didn't really have an "archnemesis" concept in the Mirage comics. The rat king was a single-issue villian (in issue "I, Monster"), Baxter Stockman was a single-issue villain (issue #2), and Kraang didn't exist. Generally speaking, the turtles didn't take prisoners and were essentially child soldiers of Splinter.
      If they had one nemesis it was the Shredder, for two reasons: 1) He's tied to their origin story in the comics. They were trained by Splinter to kill him; He's the reason they became ninjas. 2) A clone of Shredder came after them later in the series, in an amazing story arch that led the Turtles to retreat from New York for a time, followed eventually by a return and a fight with Shredder where Leonardo cuts the clone's head off.

    I love the 2003 series and Scottie Ray was the perfect voice for the Shredder. He sounds like a demon who has risen from the depths of hell. However, one thing I like more about the 2012 series is that Shredder's a more complex character. The 2003 Shredder was evil just for the sake of being evil, which is fine for a demonic character but the 2012 Shredder has a more interesting personality. He was a man who never matured to a point where he could acknowledge his own mistakes and therefore always blamed them on others, especially his adopted brother Hamato Yoshi AKA Splinter. He also showed genuine love for Karai and was upset when she turned on him and when she was mutated. The 2003 Shredder revealed he was an Utrom to her but aside from that, he treated her more like a valuable weapon than a daughter. Hell, I suspect he only revealed he was an Utrom as a contingency plan to make sure she knew how to save him in case he was ever in a situation where his exo-suit couldn't protect him.

    I love how everything ties into everything else in the series. This is what those 80-90's anthropomorphic animal shows lacked when they tried to copy TMNT; TMNT had comic-book esque story telling. I like how the Ch'rell and his footclan took color motifs from the Original Orokusaki's palette, and also how the foot symbol was the guardians symbol flipped upside down, to resemble a foot with three toes lol. Also how it's true to Japanese folklore because Tengu's are enemies of buddhism and promise tempting power to cause even the most devoted to fall into buddhist sin.

    I stil believe this is the definitive version of the ninja turtles outside of the original and idw comics. That being said, Utrom shredder was arguably the most terrifying version of the character, I would always hold my breath when the turtles confronted him just because of how utterly ruthless he was. The tengu shredder was ok , I didn't really enjoy the mystical approach of season 5. But I do appreciate the lore of the true shredder and how ch'rell was inspired to take on his name. The Karai shredder was cool but too brief, I thought it was pretty devastating for Karai to take on her father's mantle as the shredder.

    Ch'rell is an embodiment of the stereotypical megalomaniac: bloodthirsty, insane, selfish, vengeful and relentless. He hates anyone who challenges, impedes, or otherwise wrongs him, holding grudges long after the fact - in some cases, this can even become an almost pathological hatred against them. After Ch'rell had assumed the identity of the Shredder, his megalomania became even stronger, to the point of calling himself the "one true Shredder."

    2012 shredder gets my vote for the best shredder. But the 2003 Shredder is easily a close second for just how much stuff they did with him.

      Nah bro the 2003 shredder is better. The Theme, The Athmosphere around him and all the other things make him so terrefing i watched both shows as a kid and the 2003 shredder always was much more interessting to me
