- We update our Zotac and PNY 1660 Supers with Hynix memory with a new MSI rom to see what kind of hashrate we can get. And more importantly, will there be any driver issues and will it stay stable over time? It is day zero of our testing, lets give it a shot and see what happens!

Steps:
***Before flashing, backup the current graphics card BIOS with: nvflash64 --save backup.rom***

▶️ create a folder on c:\ and call the download directory something easy to type like 1660S or 1660SFlash
▶️Copy files to c:\1660SFlash (or whatever your dir name is)
▶️Open command prompt (right click Run as Administrator)

Decided to run a little experiment and successfully flashed both MSI and Palit Bios on other PNY, Galax and Asus Hynix cards.
Both bios works on all the above cards, Palit bios works better:
MSI: 34.5mh/s
Palit: 35.7mh/s
I'm using Hiveos, here are the best OC settings on both bios: 1050/2400/90
Both running between 82w-87w

Nice whick miner are you using? I have used trex phoenix nbminer and the pny 1660supers flashed with msi bios keeps on crashing. Oc settings 1050/2200/90pl

Just tried flashing both Zotac and PNY cards in HiveOS, they continue to fail. I'm assuming you flashed in Windows then moved to hive?

I know it's painful to do it 1 by 1.

I've got 20 of the PNY Hynix, a handful of Zotacs, Asus, etc. If this proves stable and worth it, it'll be like adding a new card or two for free! Thanks and keep it up!

My experience after flashing all my 16 cards with Hynix memory. I have Asus TUF, MSI Gaming X, EVGA and Zotac. Flashed all with Palit bios, directly in hiveos, just ticking the option to pass the security check. I got 9 Asus, 3 MSI and 1 Zotac on a hiveos rig. The most stable OC that I could run is 1050/2000/125, getting 34.7mh at 72-75w, with few going up to 87w. I have 2 cards that lost the power and fan settings, had to reboot the rig and lower the OC to 1000/1800/0 but they still get around 34.1 mh stable. My gain was 40Mh / 60w, so lets say I added a free card to the rig.
EVGA was the most problematic card, after flashing the bios it lost the PL settings showing 0/0/0. I moved them on nicehash and one of them was giving an error in quickminer saying it couldnt obtain power consumption. Had to put back the original bios and now it works. I couldnt get a stable OC in windows with any kind of card, after a while quickminer was restarting and some cards didnt get the OC from the Afterburner. But with 1200 mem and 70 PL i was obtaining 35.4 mh at 88w. Right now I got 3 EVGA on nicehash with their efficient optimizing option that gives about 31.4 mh at 73 mh.
My conclusion is that if you want to flash the bios, use the card on hiveos to get a lower consumption. Running on windows with Afterburner its not reliable and its 4mh for 15w per card, at least for me.
That is a fantastic run down. Thanks so much for taking the time to share all that info. I had very similar results as I started flashing my whole rig. Actually stopped in the middle because of the power and fan setting issue you mentioned on some cards, but also stopped because I had to move on to other projects. What was your resolution for that? Just decided to live with it? I'd recommend this flash, but only if you are a more advanced user, and are up for an afternoon project tinkering :)
@@HashRaptor I couldn't get a new card in almost 2 months, I have free slots waiting to be filled, but other than 3 series LHR cards there is nothing available in my region (East Europe). With the ETH 2.0 approaching, this bios mod is a good way to add some MH. I read a comment that it also gives a bigger boost mining ERGO (75mh from 50), so if this mod proves to be stable in the long run, it will also increase the ERGO profitability of 1660s, which I will probably be mining next year.
are there any downsides (other than the PL/ fans sometimes not working) of flashing these cards ? I have 10 I think. all asus tuf with Hynix mem. downside like instability, other algos, etc ? can always flash the bios back I guess but if the upsides are worht it, i might try it ! tyvm !
@@bigguix Until now, no other issues at all. Mining 24 hours a day without any down time, I use nbminer on hive. From time to time i just reboot the rig so that the cards that doesnt show the fan speed and power can recover, but if the temps are low, no need for that, I do it just to be safe when I see higher temps overall. There are 13 cards on the rig, 2 maybe 3 cards have this issue, probably its just silicon lottery.
Hey man i was wondering about the EVGA cards i have newer ones i bought only getting 28,8 cant get them to clock any higher no matter what i do -502 on both core and mem tried all type of settings just wondering what the best approach to these ones are i have 06G-P4-1068-KR
Hey LOOK HERE. Did you ever get the err sorted out? I have mine all flashed and get the error after a while. Random cards sometimes 2 of 12 sometimes 10 of 12. I have current OS in Hive. Do you still get the error? My cards still run fine with error, I just ignore it and they stay cool still. I would like a fix though. I did reflash them to see if it was a bad flash, but didn't fix it. I tried MSI and Palit and P is always better but both get the err like yours... Thanks for any help.

Hey, I haven't seen that error, maybe someone else has and can comment. I did want to ask, what hashrate are you seeing without the bios mod? I've decided if I am getting 31.5 to 33.5-ish with current firmware, I'm not modding it. I experienced some issues like I mentioned at the end. Decided to stick with the lower hashrate but more stable.
I did a pretty silly test on this, I've got 4x 1660s on my rig currently.
EVGA 1660s (Hynix)
Asus 1660s (Hynix)
MSI 1660s (Samsung)
Asus 1660s (Samsung)
EVGA was no good as it locked me out of power limiter so reverted back to stock. (31.85mh/s, PL 65% -300 core -502 mem)
Asus with hynix was the best of the bunch, I was able to squeeze 36.87mh/s out of it somehow (PL 70%, 0 core +1425 mem)
Now I've read that you SHOULDN'T attempt this bois update on a card with samsung memory, but I did it anyway because yolo.
Both the MSI and ASUS were able to get up to 33.9mh/s. This has been running for 4 weeks now and haven't had any downtime whatsoever..

I had 2 of these cards and I could get 32mhs @ 70w. I put them against 1x 3070 Galex triple fan and the 2 Zotac 1660 Supers out performed in terms of shares, Mhs (+3mhs) with only 15 more watts. They had a better return and were cheaper!

i dont understand.. i do bios update at 2 msi 1660 super and 1 asus 1660 super.. with the same settings as before i have same hashrates (almost 32mh/s with 72-73 watt each) but (-50 watts) (at asus with palit bios -30 watt) ... tempertures? 40c -44 c ... Very good why to overclock memorys etc and have more watts (+25 watts) for 2-3 mh for each card and dont leave it as well? (for 35mh per card need more watts, temperature +7 c, and overclocked memory, so more temp at memory)

Hello! Thanks for video I reached on 1660super Zotac Hynux from 25 ti 35 Mhs. But ofter update it seems i loose control for second cooler on videocard. And now temperature going up very quick(( Even if i'm putting Fan speed at 90% anyway it seems only one cooler goint to that speed. Do you know how to solve this problem?
I went through the process on my zotac 1660S the card shows in the device manager with the MSI rom but I can’t see it in MSI afterburner. Any advice?

Dumping the rom from HiveOS is good? I mean, can I trust a backup from there? because I wouldn't want to go to the process of powering down my rig and taking the cards out to flash them one by one.

Thanks. I updated my PNY 1660 Super
with the MSI file included -450 core clock +850 Memory Clock 80% power is the longest lasting setting before it crashes at 31 MH at 104 watts
the (Palit 1660 Super bios file) included gets 29.6 MH/s no matter what setting you change and the power setting is grayed out on the MSI afterburner.
So I put the PNY file that came with the card and it is back to 31.1 MH/s at 86.3 watts. In short, after 3 hrs of playing around with both files and every possible setting it did not work on my PNY 1660 Super.
But if it has some problems or stability issues, can i put the older BIOS ? Or if i do something wrong, i Will get a non working gpu?

Can I do the bios mod from hiveos will it work? download the original bios from hiveos and upload the MSI bios and flash from hiveos itself any thoughts?
Some are reporting it is working for them. It hasn't for me, however it has been a week or two since I tried. No idea if any updates changed anything.
Ive got the MSI, but after I flashed, I can't see the Watt and fan speed. What driver version do you use?
Maybe it's better to flash with the Palit Bios!?
I run 1050/2400/90, nbminer, but also have stability issues, the miner can run for aprox 5-7 hrs, then restarts.

Nice video! I have tried with one of my PNY single fan 1660 Super. I've installed the Palit rom. After flashing my card the MSI after burner doesn't give me the option to modify the Power Limit. Any thoughts?
hmmm, perhaps give the other bios a shot and see if it does better. I tried both with each card.
Thanks for great video. Just picked up a Best Buy PNY I got a "deal" on and best I could get out of it with T-REX was 24.25MH. Flashed with MSI and steady 33.2MH at 0 Core, 1000 Mem Clock and 60 Power Limit. Running at 54C 70% Fan. Think that's reasonable for a +9MH Gain.

I tried the palit bios on pny single fan and i got 36 mhs but i lost the power consumption information.
Then i tried the msi bios and i got 35.5 with all the info showing ok.
Any recomendation?

This is cool if the electricity cost doesn't matter or slightly matters. But on 6 cards you're basically going to use 70watts more, for roughly squeezing out 18MH. And one 1660s uses 73watts on average.
I am relatively new to this but the readings are looking quite haywire... Those 35mh cards not even working...if u let them remain like this, probably it crash soon..temps are high..flashing part is awesome...so i guess be careful...ot doesnt seems right...

I have 2 msi ventus with hynix memory, the first get his 31mh/s with -502 each, but the second can only reach that mh with 0 cc +800 mm. Do someone could say why it's like that .

Hard failed on both my Asus dual Evo and Asus rog String, glad I saved a backup, tough after reading some coments maybe the problem is that I was doing it on gminer, do you think I should try again with a new mining software ?

yes, palit and msi give better straps in that bioses. And bioses are universal for hynix,samsung,micron vut only hynix have better straps(timings).

Guys! If you have a ZOTAC GTX 1660 Super with HYNIX-Memory so you can have better watt/performance ratio in my case only with Palit Bios! Palit bios seems to be much better than the MSI one. Here are my OC-Settings (took over an hour to find the sweet spot). With this OC-Settings i got ~13% more performance to ~10% more electrical power consumption in difference to original Zotac Bios. Take +1250MHz Memory Clock, 0MHz Core Clock, 72% Powerconsumption and 58% Fanspeed. The Fanspeed is very important because of the 72% complete Powerconsumption you entered. With this i got ~35,6MH/s. You can get only a little more than 36MH/s but with a lot more power consumption (more than 72% Power Setting).
For very stable Settings (depend on the manufactorquality of your GPU) choose +1200MHz Memory Clock, 0MHz Core Clock, 71% Powerconsumption and Fanspeed 55%. You will get ~35,2MH/s (~+11,5% more MH/s in difference to stock Bios) and ~10,2% more Powerconsumption (in difference to stock Bios).

@@HashRaptor no I mean switching the BIOS for a LHR Card to a Same Card whit on LHR on it like, a Zotac 3060ti on LHR it to the Same Zotac 3060ti LHR! If it’s on the BIOS , by reprogramming the Card it should Akt like a on LHR Card.

ah, well this vbios flash is aimed at 1660s with hynix memory. Micron no need to flash.

Set the core clock to +930 on the 1660s in hiveos you will a drop in the power consumption . I'm getting 31.8 Mhs on the Zotac and Gigabyte Cards with 70w

So, I just bumped into something that gets 32 MH for non-hynix Supers by accidentally using the TI clocks at -200 and 2200. Somehow, I suspect, the negative clock allows for a higher memory clock.
Lower clock = lower timings, it's the RAM timings that are increasing the hashrate
does any others models use hynix memory ?

I did it with a Zotac GTX1660 Super with Hynix Memory and MSI Bios. I can say that the watt/performance ratio is worse than with stock firmware. It works definitely but it need more power consumption in relation to hashrate! I have to pay my power by my own, so i jumped to stock rom and have no trouble to higher temps and costs for energy. but thank you for this video and this information.
UPDATE: Guys! If you have a ZOTAC GTX 1660 Super with HYNIX-Memory so you can have better watt/performance ratio in my case only with Palit Bios! Palit bios seems to be much better than the MSI one. Here are my OC-Settings (took over an hour to find the sweet spot). With this OC-Settings i got ~13% more performance to ~10% more electrical power consumption in difference to original Zotac Bios. Take +1250MHz Memory Clock, 0MHz Core Clock, 72% Powerconsumption and 58% Fanspeed. The Fanspeed is very important because of the 72% complete Powerconsumption you entered. With this i got ~35,6MH/s. You can get only a little more than 36MH/s but with a lot more power consumption (more than 72% Power Setting).
For very stable Settings (depend on the manufactorquality of your GPU) choose +1200MHz Memory Clock, 0MHz Core Clock, 71% Powerconsumption and Fanspeed 55%. You will get ~35,2MH/s (~+11,5% more MH/s in difference to stock Bios) and ~10,2% more Powerconsumption (in difference to stock Bios). Otherwise +1175MHz Memory Clock and 70% Powerconsumption.

I don't think you will be able to run stable at 35. Some cards will do 34 or a little above. In addition the cards I have tried (gigabyte & EVGA) have all required running at 95 watts in order to get the speed. I am on day 2 and 4/5 of my cards have been scaled back to about 33.5 which is already a nice boost.
What I found to be more interesting than the result in Eth was the result in Autolykos (Ergo). I am able to run these modded GPUs at 75mh/s on Autolykos which is 10mh/s more than what was normally achievable before.

he buddy maybe try updating the hive os kernel and drivers. ssh in using shell or putty and use command hive-replace -y --stable if you want to see a list of kernel and driver versions you can use this command and just select the version you want if you find out there is a better driver version. hive-replace -y --list good luck and i hope this helps fix that driver issue but still might not who knows...i dont have any of these gpus to play with. have a great day buddy.

I bought two new 1660 super like a year ago, one of them runs 30+ mh/s but the other one runs only 23,6 with -200 core and +900 memory.
I've heard some of them has different memory chips.
some of them require a negative offset on memory clock...try -1004 on that low hashrate card
I had the same issue with a zotac..but when i put the memory to negative i have 31.5 stable

This never worked for me.... tried it on an EVGA card. The Palit version screwed up MSI afterburner software (power slider became inactive) and the MSI rom did sweet fcuk all. I’m back to the weird -502 memory to get my 31Mh/s
