For some reason when discussing competitive benefits, I feel that enjoyment is rarely ever mentioned. In my experience it has been one of the biggest drivers for my improvement. Glass pads have been so satisfying and fun for me to play on that I immediately found myself putting way more hours into my game of choice. 100% the most impactful purchase for me, much more so than any mouse or monitor.
Enjoying what you do is EVERYONE'S source of drive for improvement. If people loved what they do on a regular basis, we'd have a better world to live in
@@JingMitsuyamaCH tiger ice and corepads are pretty much the gold standard, available everywhere and pretty cheap. x-raypad infinity are my personal favourites tho, slightly faster than tiger ice, which are slightly faster than corepads. also, always get dots :p
Brother, my wife already thinks I’m a nerd. If I put that thing on my arm, she will push me into a locker and steal my lunch. I want to be good, but not that bad. 😂
If you still want to have that consistency but dont want to use a sleeve. Go for a cerapad kin 2.0 i am using it for 2 months and my arm doesn't stick to it at all, while i do get that consistency
Based wife. There are very few glass pads that *MAY* work without a "gaming" sleeve for some individuals such as Glsswrks Kazemi but since it has cringey anime design, your wife is still going to push you into the locker and steal your lunch money. The glass experience has its pros but now that the winter is approaching, it gets pretty cold. Also, you have to wipe any dust particle or anything really as it ruins the experience. Frankly, the cons outweight the pros which is primarily freedom/speed and consistency*. Consistency is debatable as 99% don't live in perfect conditions so, sweat also ruins the experience because your palm glues to it if you're static for few seconds and your palm will inevitably sweat even if your room is 18-22 degrees.
@@mamorris23 you really think that 120 dollars for a mousepad in glass with a quasi at least 10 years of durability and maybe a lifetime mousepad but we can't assume it ! YOu really think this is too expensive !!

I have an SP-004 also and I disagree with the "never needs cleaning" part. If it has a single grain of sand or dirt or dust on it then it has the tendency to cause a grinding sensation until you wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. So, if you don't include dusting it off before use, then yeah you never have to clean it.
@@WinningItAllI mean how often do you clean you cloth pad? I do it like 5-6x a year. Depending on your environment you have to wipe your glass pad before every session.
@@FenrirAlter The times you do wash your cloth pad, it is pretty inconvenient though. Taking out a microfiber cloth and wiping your glass pad doesn't take any planning or actual effort, you pretty much forget about it once you're done. Even though you do it far more often, you don't really feel it since it's not disruptive enough to be annoying.
@@Vorexia what inconvenience? You literally just do it anytime you know u won't use your computer if it bothers you. Saying it is more disruptive then either always wiping the glasspad before you use the computer or waiting for the mouse to feel word do the sand, dirt etc. and then wiping it, is just a problem of mindset. Because I can assure u launching a game and then noticing that the glasspad has something on it during gameplay, might also be considered rather disruptive
BeamNG is really more of a destruction physics sim than a driving sim. The collision models and the physics sim of way the way the cars are damaged and crumple is far more accurate than the actual driving and tire models in that game. It really doesn't get much better than Assetto Corsa without stepping into the subscription based games like iRacing or something more specialised like Dirt Rally or Richard Burns Rally
4:40 i need to use a sleeve even with a regular cloth/fabric mouse pad. Even in colder climates, if you sweat just enough, the friction on the mousepad can irritate the skin. Or, if my arm isnt on the mouse pad, it’s sticking to the table. I’ve seen it as a personal requirement
This video was crazy timing. Also had the Skypad for 5-6months now and I love it. Plus I just ordered the X-ray pads a week ago and they should come in today. Def agree with everything said in this video and I’ll come back to comment on how the x-ray obsidian pads feel Edit: I’m back. Been about a week of using them and I gotta say this is combo is insane. Before the xray pads I was running the stock gpro super light skates and off the bat Its a noticeable difference how extremely smooth it is. Better yet the consistency is definitely there so if you’re questioning buying them I would suggest you do it. Also when I bought the skates it gave the option to add mouse grips for a very cheap price so figure I mention that in case you need both.
What perfect timing on this video. Just yesterday I started to notice my hayate otsu had a different feeling on it in the central part where my mouse typically sits. Running my mouse around the edges of the pad and then through the center I was noticing some blatant differences in feeling and speed. A glass pad would totally negate that wear and tear and provide a 100% consistent feel.
I’m noticing a lot of Hayate Otsu comments here consider glass pads. My otsu is also worn in the middle and I hate hate the fact it’s a single use item
@@Dah_J that is just not true whatsoever. There are clear downsides, and for a lot of people, the benefits are irrelevant. They aren't a bad product category, but they aren't "objectively better"
@@upularFTW glass pads have quite a few downsides that you see immediately when using one for the first time. Especially if the type of game you play is more closely aligned with a tac shooter, you probably wont see any performance gains due to the lack of both static and dynamic friction. In general though: 1. glass pads require a sleeve 2. They become dysfunctional with moisture 3. They make a lot of noise which can only be covered with closed back headphones or iems 4. Extremely sensitive to dust and hair 5. Require much more mouse control or specialized control skates 6. Aren’t comfortable, at least not nearly as comfortable as a plush pad when statically resting your wrist. 7. It’s extremely expensive to try new surfaces at >$100 for most pads 8. The lack of friction requires more tension in your arm, which is counterproductive to the general theory of staying loose yet controlled in high tier aiming scenarios. As stated even in this video, unless you are playing a tracking focused game, you lose basically all control when switching to glass. It’s also worth noting that even some of the top aimers in the world, including VT Matty, prefer to use a fast cloth pad over glass (in his case the artisan raiden) as the physical properties of the pad allow for movement pushing into the pad where glass only allows two dimensional travel.
I bought the SP-004 on a whim after catching your last video about the Skypad 3 and I have not looked back since, probably hands down my favorite part of my setup to date. Paired with a Beast X 8k mouse with Obsidian Pro skates, it is the smoothest gaming experience I have ever had.
I used the skypad for around 8 months and recently made the change back to cloth but this time with glass mouse skates and for me that works better. with glass mouse pad I had to constantly clean my mouse skates because of dirt and dust that accumulates on it, and if you live in a more humid environment this will happen more often and cause a lot more inconsistencies while aiming ohh and the price differences are HUGE with mouse skates only costing like 5/10 euros
Im using the Skypad 3 for years now, absolutely love it. Using my mouse without a sleeve is not an option anymore because it can get pretty cold in my area and my skypad feels like putting my arm on a block of ice. And on summer days it gets way to sticky like said in the video.
I have been using the Cordura mousepad from End Game Gear with glass skates and it is very similar to a glass mousepad without have to use a sleeve. I thinks it's the best combination.
@@konzo5942 every time I used a glass mousepad without a sleeve my arm would get glued to it in less than 10min, but I guess it depends on how much you arms sweat.
It also removes the need of a 100% clean surface. A small particle grinding between the glass mousepad and the feet is horrible. While on a Cordura pad these particles "hide" between the fabric. I recently switched to a glass pad with obsidian skates. I used Cordura with glass skates before. Technically I would say the glass pad with Obsidian skates is better. But Cordura with Glass skates is easier to maintain but still being very fast.
i love the 3.0 but if one piece of dust or hair is on the pad it interacts with my obsidian dots and makes it almost unusable, i find myself having to microfiber clean it at least once a game, do u just not experience this?
@@xdsmurfieA quick wipe with the side of your hand every few minutes is usually good enough. Don't even have to let go of your mouse. I do it between rounds in CS, or when running/driving long distances in other games. It just becomes a habit.
Bought this a couple months ago. Absolutely loved this thing. That is until any particle of dust or pet hair get inbetween the pad and your mouse skates. My house is pretty dusty and i ended up returning this.
@@aleger620and there is someone out there on an ancient laptop who would destroy both of you without even a mouse pad. that doesnt mean his set up is optimal. idk why you feel proud about having a cheap set up, if thats your budget then thats fine, others have bigger budgets for their hobbies
So I went on an impulse buy and bought one the day I saw video. Wow I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy using it! I've always been pretty reserved with mouse pads, my last one being a G640, which was starting to curve on the edges. This is just a different level and I feel like i've done my self an injustice before now. The SP-004 has blown me away with it's glide, speed and consistency, even though I've bearly had it two two days.
Bro. $200 AUD for a mousepad is absolutely insane. There’s no way a sheet of glass with some rubber costs that much, right? I’m gonna stick to my hayate Otsu
Well it’s cut in a specific measurement and I can assume that many pads that have branding underneath the glass also require a bit more machining then just slapping two sheets of glass together and calling it a day. There’s also a bit of micro texturing that’s added which I assume is a little bit involved to add to glass. There is absolutely a premium tax on the glass pads but it’s not equivalent to taking the glass out of your window and using it as your pad
@@lukeX2m Frosted sheets of glass have been available for a few bucks since forever. Just look at frosted glass shelves at like IKEA. The branding is part of the sticker they apply to the underside, similar to how they apply color to glass-backed phones.
I’ve had this mousepad for about three months now. There’s a short adjustment period with the reduced friction but this is my favorite mousepad for both work and play.
The things that no one talks about when it comes to glass pads are: 1.) the smallest spec of dust will render it unusable. The amount of times I have to pick my mouse up mid match and wipe off the skates and the pad are annoying as hell. 2.) Glass insulates heat, which means if your house is cold, your glass pad will feel like a sheet of ice. It’s impossible to keep your hands warm.
Second one was why I sold my old skypad, even just using it to browse RUclips in the morning in pajamas it would be freezing in winter. Dust allergic so I always have a air purifier running on my desk so could get away with an hour without wiping. The improvement of transfers and flicks when I'm locked in doesn't justify the majority of hours I'm on my computer and not gaming being less comfortable. Realistically, an artisan or even decent clothpad isn't the reason holding you back and that someone else is owning you. They're also probably on a 15 euro qck aswell. Edit: also glass swipe noise took the immersion out of games like content warning and lethal company for friends who heard it through my mic, also a major factor on me not using it.
Ngl, I've had many glass pads over a couple of years and have never, ever had an issue with dust. I keep a microfiber cloth and wipe the pad before I start playing and when I get back from any breaks and it has been more than enough. The cold I understand, I have always played with long sleeves so it's never been an issue, but I agree glass pads definitely aren't for everyone.
idk what u do i barely ever clean dust in my apartment and i have constantly days where i dont need to wipe it after the initial wipe b4 gaming and the cold yeah but thick sleeves exist
@@L3ttr7u can literally just lay any artisan pad or even a cheap mousepad onto your glasspad for office stuff it sticks perfectly and even protects the glass pad from dust... i use my mousepads up to the desk edge tho to have even friction across my arm
I've been using the Skypad since the 3.0 version, and made the transition over to the SP-004 shortly after the company made their change over to the WALLHACK brand. I absolutely love glass pads, and I don't ever see myself making the switch back to cloth! These are the best when it comes to long-term sustainability & durability, and they are incredibly easy to clean. The texture and feel ensure you have pure consistency, and its a buttery-smooth feel underneath the PTFE skates. I can't possibly recommend this pad more!
I 3D printed my own using a Bambu A1 with textured plate. 1.2mm thick, once printed I put double sided tape on it and flipped it over. Super smooth but not too smooth due to the textured surface from the plate, but not rough enough to wear the mouse plastic, best of all, took 15mins to print and cost hardly anything :)
this is why i like this dudes videos, he's not just a RUclips influencer saying you should buy stuff just because. He's actually really good at games so these recommendations actually mean something
@XauvkubYang-h9the kept aware of the position of the last guy while fighting other opponents. Then immediately did a blink meele recall. I didnt even see the last guy.
Great review; literally ordered this shortly thereafter! I've been wanting to switch off the Artisan pad I've been utilizing for the last year to a glass mousepad and this made that transition easy / stress free.
Been on the SP-004 for atleast the last 5 months, for being a tac fps player / Valorant main. It truly has what I want, I had the same reasons to swap to glass (consistency and speed). Only swaping skates and mice now, and Obsidian Air skates have felt the best so far Smoothness/Speed/Noise wise if any of you are looking to get a glass pad after this video or already have one!
I got the Skypad 4 about 5 months ago. Been using it with an arm sleeve. The biggest downside is that I have to have a microfiber cloth by my desk at all times for this thing. I have 2 cats and anything between the pad and your mouse will cause problems. Literally any hair or anything. So, before AND during usage, I constantly have to wipe down the surface of the pad and the bottom of my mouse. And all the other downsides exist mentioned in the video. I've put on new mouse skates cause the original set were chewed through in a month. Another downside for me is I'd like it just slightly bigger, but they don't make a bigger size. And you can't have anything on top of the pad, unlike the huge deskpads I'm used to using. I'd have so much stuff on that pad. But, despite all these downsides, I'd still use this glass pad because it is the most consistent mouse movement experience. It isn't even comparable to anything else. But it is definitely for someone who plays FPS games often. Otherwise, it really isn't necessary.
I've bought a few different (soft, flexible) mouse/desk pads over the past year. Most of them have a smell that lasts for I don't know how long, I've lost count. I left them out in the sun for a week or two. I let them air out in a storage room for months (9), and I can still smell them. It's just not as bad as when they were purchased.
I think it’s worth mentioning that if you are a tacFPS player (CS2, Valorant, etc), I would not recommend this mouse pad due to the lack of stopping power. Otherwise, it’s exceptional!
He said its for "tracking gamings" or something like that and everyone you plays tac shooters should know, that they are the exact opposite, but still, I was waiting for him to say that as well as its pretty important to know.
i've played valo and cs professionally and in my opinion a glass pad for these kind of games you just need to get used to it, used like 4 different glass pads and i've performed exactly or even better with these surfaces (using the Superglide v2 as main rn), there's some pros that i know that are making the switch also
@@phronesis1642 you probably would need too play at like 400 at 1 but it wouldn't be good for your flicks a cloth slower/balanced pad with a softer/harder the best for this kind of scenario the fastest I would go with this type of games is something like Neptune pro as the maximum but playing on that wouldn't be great
I use the razer spex. And I really don't understand why not everyone is using this. It's the perfect ballance between a slidy and proper scannable surface. All consistant throughout, doesn't move, no fabric coming loose. Just a perfect surface right on your desk
I switched to this pad after obsessing over the formation slow spots on my cloth pads. I'm very satisfied, but it won't be for everyone. More of an enthusiast product. Nothing wrong with cloth unless you obsess like me. I also stopped using a sleeve on it and it has worked fine.
I love the atlas also but curious to see if this beats it some reviews say the wall hack is slower some say it’s faster just need to grab one to see I guess
4:20 been using a glass mouse pad for the past year and a half and the greatest life hack that I've come up with is to take Half of a piece of paper and tape it to the part of the Mouse pad where your arm is resting. That way you don't have to look ultra mega gamer with a sleeve but it still gives you an almost frictionless surface.
i picked up a superglide mouse pad after i got really tired of the humidity in my room changing the way my cloth pads felt, and i will honestly never go back. the consistency and smoothness of a glass pad is honestly addicting. thanks for your recommendations, they mean a TON to us.
On top of the content, the B roll, the set design choices (light bars on left, light thru the stairs onto the back wall), the script/cadence, all blend making this the best youtube channel
I have I believe the first gen Skypad. The bottom of the Wallhack seems really nice. Sky Pad just has the four little nubs on each corner. This full bottom grip seems like a nice upgrade. Been maining it for years. Ease of cleaning was one of my priorities for moving.
i used to travel a lot with my Gear for Tournaments and Stuff , and i like glass mouspads a lot but bringing them to a Competitive Event or in planes Etc is quite a challenge, while i can just roll up a normal pad in a extra backpack together with Mouse, Keyboard and SsD for at home gaming that is awesome for sure tho
Man I have to say, I’ve purchased two items now based off your reviews and I haven’t been disappointed. First was the Asus Rog Swift Pro 540hrz 1080p monitor and now this mousepad. Both were completely solid buys, despite the heavy prices. $1,000 spent and not a single regret. All of these items truly enhanced my competitive gaming experience. Thank you for your input
So as someone like me who is still newer to aiming with monk started again earlier this year being on a glass pad and then swapping over to a more balanced cloth pad is significantly better than it was when I was first playing on the glass pad. I can stop easier the small micro adjustments in my aim aren’t as prevalent. It’s been an interesting experience.
I just bought it for CS2 despite pretty much everyone saying glasspads are not suited for tac shooters, yet on my Zowie GSR I can't microadjust properly due to the control nature of the pad and the wear and tear of cloth. From what I've seen glasspads are just pure for those of us who have at least decent aim and want and extra step.
i use it aswell, half a year now, i really can recommend it for every aiming enthusiast. i tried to switch back just to try how it feels on a clothpad, i cannot describe how but your mouse movement feels more "true" in my opinion
To be honest, him saying that threw me off so hard. I don't truly know if the Skypad 4.0 is actually THAT good? Like, I have never tried out a glass mousepad before. And the fact that he barely mentioned one of the biggest negatives being the dust and dirt issue is very strange in my opinion.
he's trying bait people into buying the pad via his amazon link. Noone who genuenly wanted to inform people about glass pads would describe them like this. While it is easier to accelerate the mouse on fast glass pads you do lose a lot of stability and for most aiming types some stability is way more important than being able to accelerate the mouse a tiny bit faster.
I used the Skypad 2.0 for a year and the Skypad 3.0 for around four years with a sleeve.. It 100% makes your aim input feel more raw.. I did eventually switch back to a thick classic pad though sense becoming a father around 6 months ago as I prefer the comfort and the classic style thick pads over the performance benifits the skypad 3.0 gives me. I didn't feel like I was lacking in aim when I transitioned but I know I aim..(and that's fine).. It's just more comfortable and nicer in more situations to use a cloth surface as I'm not gaming as much as I used to since being a father. Undoubtedly glass pads are awesome if you're after raw aim potential but it requires a LOT of aim discipline.. If you're buying a pad like this expect you're going to need to learn to adapt. If you're a jittery or flicky aimer like me you'll notice the lack of control or discipline in your aim when quick tracking targets. I started out with a QCK Heavy on an OG G303.. Honestly one of the best setups and I didn't realize or know it at the time when I started fps gaming. Currently using a G303 SE + Puretrak CL1 6mm thick pad.. It's like I've gone back to my roots (bigger hands) with slight improvements in quality. I've been thinking about picking up a Smooth Criminal mousepad
I've been hooked on 3XL cloth control pads and have been using a sleeve for years now. Someday maybe I will give glass a shot. If you do go with a sleeve make sure it is slightly loose. If it is tight it can cause pain that lasts days.
No competitive player uses these mousepads, none. Just watch the LAN finals of Valorant and CSGO, and you'll see that no one uses them. There must be a reason for that, they earn 10k a month and don’t buy it. Ask yourself why. Second point, it's just a glass sheet, a material that probably costs 5 dollars. Add the processing and paint, maybe another 5 dollars, and 5 dollars for marketing. Where do the remaining 100 dollars come from?
You've mentioned a couple of times how fast this thing is. Would you recommend this for games like CS2 also (where tracking isn't as important), or would you stick to a high quality cloth mousepad?
@@blakkpatron sorry im not familiar with how the qck heavy feels but if you want to check out those mousepads i can recommend watching boardzys youtube videos on it
It's definitely viable if you have good mouse control but specifically going for glass if that's all you play I see no reason. You switch to glass for fun not because it makes you better (it doesn't).
I tried extremely fast pads like glass pads and didn't like it at all. I just want that sensory feedback I get from mouse motion and you barely, or don't get that from extremely fast pads. Same for extremely light mouse. The sweet spot is around 70G for me. Higher is a definite no go but anything that is way lower doesn't really do it for me either because there's less sensory feedback (not talking about the mouse sensor here). All personal preference ofcourse.
Number one reason people hold on adapting is the try hard look of the sleeve. It takes 5 seconds like you said and you forget about it. Whatever makes you enjoy your game the most. Once you go glass, you don’t go back.
@Cogency the wallhack 4.0 is really improvement of skypad 3.0 ? the surface is more smooth and really more premium ! this is not a a glass like bottle or a glassware
haven’t used the skypad 4, but love my supreme glass pads. i have the largest one and an Xl right near each other so they cover nearly the entirety of my desk width and my keyboard sits on top. really love it and won’t go back to cloth now
I wasn't convinced until you mentioned the sound (or lack thereof). That's been my biggest grievance with my superglide pad and honestly makes it hard for me to focus on the game when I can hear it. I'm not sensitive to background noise at all but the nails on chalkboard vibe drives me insane. I'll probably end up getting one now 😭
Love your videos bro! I’m a glass pad enthusiast myself but hated when the smallest dust particle gets caught under the skates and you can feel that scratchiness of it. I ended up buying the fnatic jet and WOW! Fast and buttery smooth bro, I highly recommend you try it if you haven’t already. God bless you brother
I used to play with a glass corepad back in the day: enjoyed it a lot and still looked like new after many years. But yeah they did make my mouse feet wear faster and had to pack it with foam to lanparties so it would not break. I prefer the cloth placemat style mousepads now: dampens sound from your keyboard, looks sleek, glides fine, mousefeet last forever, easy to clean (I have two so one can be cleanen/dried) and verry affordable and available in 1001 colors and designs, or you can design your own. You can easily make your desk totally different by just switching to another color/print mousepad :)
The first glass pad I ever tried was the old school one that Steelseries sold when they first opened. I was so glad that Skypad started making glass pads. Been making my own skates out of UHMW polyethylene for about 4 years now, glad to see the rest of the industry has decided to sell them.
Man this is wild, love the videos optimum. Its a bit surreal for me though because ive been on glass for 15+ years. Reason being tho is i consider you to basically be the GOAT/on par with at least in terms of understanding/min-maxing however you wanna phrase it when it comes to peripherals/tech. Also wanted to point out a funny thing, you mentioned how theres more options than ever for mouse surfaces, but i feel like weve been on a plateau for at least a decade. We basically came back from the world of glass and aluminum surfaces being first put out by the likes of steelseries, then costing too much for companies to wanna justify and being dropped, and now were back and on top with glass mouse feet which is insane to me but so cool.
been using this pad since it launched and used the 3.0 a few months after that came out and there's only really 2 downsides to them both. First Problem - is the sleeves if you play with a palm sleeve then you need atleast 2 sleeves (i have 4) as no matter how hot or cold your room is or how little you play your palm gets coated in sweat almost immediately and although it doesnt affect the aim it's kind of annoying having a hand caked in sweat unless you wash your hands every hour which leads to the life of the sleeve shortening very fast i bought a new sleeve 6 months ago and i've already got a hole in it right where my palm sits on the glass despite my best efforts to avoid it but luckily it doesnt affect the glide yet. Second Problem - are the skates most people sell are terrible even the ones advertised as made/safe for glass are incredibly weak and most of the time dont even have proper adhesives so you need to spend way too long trying to move the skates in an evened out area so it doesnt wobble like a seesaw when moving the mouse atleast until you figure out the spots. and the weakness of the skates are also a massive problem. (rant at the bottom if u wanna see my opinon on the skate brands) i think the best option for one of these glass pad companies is to make a sleeve with an open palm but covered back that connects via the thumb and pinky that way you avoid the downsides of a palm sleeve but have all the benefits without having to buy a non palm sleeve which leaves the very bottom of the palm, thumb and pinky on the glass since the people who buy those sleeves and have their arms on the pad are just better off buying some socks and cutting the bottom off or staying on cloth and getting glass skates (rant about skate brands)- x-ray i've seen are the worst by far when it comes to quality control you take a gamble everytime you use their skates i've bought from them 4 times and each time i've had atleast 8-12 skates just not have any adhesive and about half of them shear all the materials off after 1 session which is horrible when you only get a minimum 10 sets in a pack of 40 using 1 in each corner the only ones i've not had a major issue with are their skypad collab set which is only slightly better on the adhesive part but the lifespan of the skates is definitly better which is a shame since most content creators say they're good despite the fact it feels like come cheap temu product where u get 1 good product after 100 terrible ones. bt.l skates and tiger ice skates avoid them like the plague they're the worst for lifespan despite having really good adhesives but they're pretty good on cloth. corepads are the same as tiger ices and bt.l they just last a lil longer. ghostglides are really good their lifespan is great and so is the feeling of them on the sp-4.0 i can go a few weeks without any impact on the glide and on their newer cyclones (made specifically for glass) i went a full 3 months on only 4 out of the 40 skates without a single issue my only downsides for these are the adhesives being only a little better than x-rays and the availability atleast where i live in scotland always being sold out unless i wanna pay a company 4x the price of the skates for shipping so im stuck on the x-ray collabs pretty much every other brand is in the same boat as bt.l skates, tiger ice and corepads the only companies i've noticed make something worth it for glass are x-ray with their bad quality control but great availability and ghostglides with their terrible availability but great qaulity control
Used to use those mats called "Icemat" or whatever they were called, like 15-20 years ago. Whilst nice, what I always ended up disliking with them was that it wears out the "pads"/skates under the mouse. And back then we used to get some tape to put on the pads instead of wearing out the pads/skates. And it was such a hassle to replace them/get new ones, so yeah. The pad itself wasn't half bad though, used it for prolly 3-5 years ish.
@@avinin1337 Yeah, icemat was definitely the name of one of them :P Pricey as F to replace those tape pieces called "skates" or whatever :P And needed to be replaced SOOOO often :P
I've had the Skypad 2.0 for some years now. To be honest, I can't imagine getting a new pad. It's still as good as it's been since the first day I got it. The only thing I would change is making it bigger, and that's just me knit-picking.
Might have to look at this. I have a Firefly Pro V2 and it is absolutely nuts. If I spin my mouse it will do three full rotations. Going back to a normal pad feels like you have awful cable drag. Also stays clean and easy to clean and you don’t get friction differences over time, on my previous pad the middle was smoother than the edges. I just couldn’t even think about going back to something that isn’t a hard plastic or glass after that.
I think that it's cool that it's a bit of structured glass, so it is most likely a bit more scratch resistant. However, I always found low friction not ideal for gaming. A bit of resistance definitely helps with accuracy. Every time I had a mouse pad that has rather low friction, I switched back very quickly to a standard mousepad.
Playing on Icemat 2nd edition since 2010 or so. Have second one. The longevity and durability is insane. I would not go for any other material than that, but they are rare and very hard to find. Luckily i just discovered that they started to make glass pads again. Cool to know.
It needs cleaning, though. I have to use wipes or a microfiber cloth to remove the PTFE pieces every 10 minutes or so. It also wears down the PTFE feet pretty quickly. Lately, Optimum rarely discusses the downsides of each product he reviews.
I actually just got one of these on Black Friday sale and must say I'm shocked how different it is from what the video represents. The pad is WAY louder/scratchier than my G640 and makes a sound like nails on a raincoat that I can't stand. Mouse resistance feels the same if not slightly rougher than the G640. I'm actually here rewatching the video now to see if this was mentioned and instead it's described as smooth and quiet.
having friction on your mousepad can counter a higher sensitivity which makes aiming feel actually more amazing, its like having those circle rings on the stick of a controller to physically drop your sens.
As a cripple, my bed setup? I use my plastic transfer board as a mouse pad (prior to that my wood transfer board) and yeah. plastic is killer. i want to see more brands make plastic mousepads. because its cheaper than glass and you can finish it to feel good. my transfer board for example is smooth as hell. its meant to be, because my ass has to slide across it rather with cloths or without. so it works. if they use that same mentality for a thin/lightweight mousepad, they could make a ton of profit.
Got one about a month ago. Make sure your pad doesn't have any defects within the first three days and email them immediately. It was my first time getting a glass pad and didn't notice that the glass was not completely flat and Wallhack would not give me a different unit which left to return the unit and having to pay for the shipping back (-40 dollars total from shipping).
i have used a glasspad for overwatch, specifically the skypad 3.0 and i had a lot of issues overtime. It gets really scratchy and your skates wear off a lot faster compared to a cloth pad.
My thoughts exactly on this pad. Recently been using the Superglide V2 and the thinness is fantastic, and I love the red color, but the actual feeling of the pad is not what I thought it would be. I figured everyone and their mother would be trying to copy the feeling of the SP 4.0 but apparently not.
got the Skypad 3.0 and switched to the GLSSWRKS Kazemi. Between those two, there is a difference like between heaven and hell. so smooth, so quiet. Using the Jade Donuts on it and since I can play every other day at max for 2-3 hours, they don't wear down as fast.
For most people things like this are just placebos. I've tried good glass skates, those were alsolute crap on my Superlight and I had to buy new PTFE skates just to replace the stock ones. And a glass mousepad? I would actually get an wrist imflammation because of it. It is because of the thermal conductivity of the glass, it draws heat away from your wrist and cools it, but having it done over a long period can lead to imflammation. A sleave can't fix that. You can blame bad blood circulation for that. You literally got cold feet? Don't buy a glass mousepad... While I never had a glass mousepad, a had a similar thing happen with a plastic mousepad that was mounted on a aluminium plate. Now I use a cloth mousepad and PTFE skates, which is good enough. If you want to be better, train your arms and forearms, like optimum, for fine muscle control.

Wiping the pad within 10 seconds isnt comparable to cleaning a cloth pad in the tub lol
@@WinningItAllI mean how often do you clean you cloth pad? I do it like 5-6x a year. Depending on your environment you have to wipe your glass pad before every session.
@@FenrirAlter The times you do wash your cloth pad, it is pretty inconvenient though.
Glass pads are objectively better. Hop on the train
@@Dah_J that is just not true whatsoever. There are clear downsides, and for a lot of people, the benefits are irrelevant. They aren't a bad product category, but they aren't "objectively better"
@@flytelp what downsides are there?
@@upularFTW glass pads have quite a few downsides that you see immediately when using one for the first time. Especially if the type of game you play is more closely aligned with a tac shooter, you probably wont see any performance gains due to the lack of both static and dynamic friction.
In general though:
1. glass pads require a sleeve
2. They become dysfunctional with moisture
3. They make a lot of noise which can only be covered with closed back headphones or iems
4. Extremely sensitive to dust and hair
5. Require much more mouse control or specialized control skates
6. Aren’t comfortable, at least not nearly as comfortable as a plush pad when statically resting your wrist.
7. It’s extremely expensive to try new surfaces at >$100 for most pads

I used the skypad for around 8 months and recently made the change back to cloth but this time with glass mouse skates and for me that works better. with glass mouse pad I had to constantly clean my mouse skates because of dirt and dust that accumulates on it, and if you live in a more humid environment this will happen more often and cause a lot more inconsistencies while aiming
ohh and the price differences are HUGE with mouse skates only costing like 5/10 euros
I appreciate how minimalist his setup and studio are, whilst he plays primarily very noisy and vibrant shooters; like Valo and OW.
I thinks it's the best combination.
to be honest i dont feel a difference with a sleeve and without. even in the summer heat and a bit sweaty didnt notice any issues.
@@konzo5942 Everyone is different.

There are cheaper glass pads like the Padsmith Empress. Bigger brands can just charge a lot more because they're more well known.
@@lukeX2m
Frosted sheets of glass have been available for a few bucks since forever.

The things that no one talks about when it comes to glass pads are:
1.) the smallest spec of dust will render it unusable.
The cold I understand, I have always played with long sleeves so it's never been an issue, but I agree glass pads definitely aren't for everyone.
add noise to that and eating away mouse skates, and no stopping power for precision games like cs or valorant

I absolutely love glass pads, and I don't ever see myself making the switch back to cloth!
I just don't let my cat near my setup and that works for me
Also glass mousepads are really bad for tac fps especially if you're holding/hard clearing angles
Does it come with a cloth to clean it with or do you have to buy that separately?

Both were completely solid buys, despite the heavy prices. $1,000 spent and not a single regret. All of these items truly enhanced my competitive gaming experience. Thank you for your input
Whatever mouse I try on my glass pad seems to have lift off issues so I could never personally use it.
What mouse are you using?
Bro said playing with the best of the best cloth mousepads felt like input lag 😭💀
Hes right. Friction does make it harder to reactive track (while making precision easier)
he's trying bait people into buying the pad via his amazon link. Noone who genuenly wanted to inform people about glass pads would describe them like this. While it is easier to accelerate the mouse on fast glass pads you do lose a lot of stability and for most aiming types some stability is way more important than being able to accelerate the mouse a tiny bit faster.
@@Katze822228 hes being honest, i went from cloth to glass and hes 100% accurate. cloth doesnt feel right anymore
I've been thinking about picking up a Smooth Criminal mousepad
if unc says its the best its gotta be goated
unc status is wild
Where do the remaining 100 dollars come from?
love your channel. you actually think like a gamer and go in depth on all the things that actually matter. thanks and keep it up
You've mentioned a couple of times how fast this thing is. Would you recommend this for games like CS2 also (where tracking isn't as important), or would you stick to a high quality cloth mousepad?
Probably better to go for a control pad like the artisan type 99 or artisan zero.
@@Raise2512 which one of those would you say most resembles a qck heavy?
@@blakkpatron sorry im not familiar with how the qck heavy feels but if you want to check out those mousepads i can recommend watching boardzys youtube videos on it
It's definitely viable if you have good mouse control but specifically going for glass if that's all you play I see no reason. You switch to glass for fun not because it makes you better (it doesn't).
@@Raise2512also a Saturn pro that is a middle ground between them
I tried extremely fast pads like glass pads and didn't like it at all.
I also don't understand the sleeve = cringe argument. Like who is judging you for enjoying your game more?
what about gamer goggles? Takes two seconds to put on
I use a sleeve on both cloth and glass now just because it also keeps my cloth pads from getting dirty quickly.
@@sanikki3877 Well just look at some of the other comments here… not that the opinion of bitter people matter
Maybe for casuals
It's true, I've had a mouse that made the mouse flow on the batle super smooth without interrruptions, flawless motions and comfortable gaming.
Optimum is the MKBHD of Gaming Tech
i'm actually about to surgically shorten my arms to reduce that input lag from my brain to fingertips thus ensuring a smoother aiming experience
How does this compare to me buying a glass plate and spray painting the bottom?
@Cogency
the wallhack 4.0 is really improvement of skypad 3.0 ? the surface is more smooth and really more premium ! this is not a a glass like bottle or a glassware
haven’t used the skypad 4, but love my supreme glass pads. i have the largest one and an Xl right near each other so they cover nearly the entirety of my desk width and my keyboard sits on top. really love it and won’t go back to cloth now
"competitive fps games" proceeds to play OMEGALUL W
😭i miss my pink steel series i-2 mouse pad so much lol
🤣theyre like a grand or more and thats if you can even find one
Love my SP-004! Great review, looking forward to using mine for years to come.
been using this pad since it launched and used the 3.0 a few months after that came out and there's only really 2 downsides to them both.
(rant at the bottom if u wanna see my opinon on the skate brands)
i think the best option for one of these glass pad companies is to make a sleeve with an open palm but covered back that connects via the thumb and pinky that way you avoid the downsides of a palm sleeve but have all the benefits without having to buy a non palm sleeve which leaves the very bottom of the palm, thumb and pinky on the glass since the people who buy those sleeves and have their arms on the pad are just better off buying some socks and cutting the bottom off or staying on cloth and getting glass skates
(rant about skate brands)-
x-ray i've seen are the worst by far when it comes to quality control you take a gamble everytime you use their skates i've bought from them 4 times and each time i've had atleast 8-12 skates just not have any adhesive and about half of them shear all the materials off after 1 session which is horrible when you only get a minimum 10 sets in a pack of 40 using 1 in each corner the only ones i've not had a major issue with are their skypad collab set which is only slightly better on the adhesive part but the lifespan of the skates is definitly better which is a shame since most content creators say they're good despite the fact it feels like come cheap temu product where u get 1 good product after 100 terrible ones.
bt.l skates and tiger ice skates avoid them like the plague they're the worst for lifespan despite having really good adhesives but they're pretty good on cloth.
corepads are the same as tiger ices and bt.l they just last a lil longer.
ghostglides are really good their lifespan is great and so is the feeling of them on the sp-4.0 i can go a few weeks without any impact on the glide and on their newer cyclones (made specifically for glass) i went a full 3 months on only 4 out of the 40 skates without a single issue my only downsides for these are the adhesives being only a little better than x-rays and the availability atleast where i live in scotland always being sold out unless i wanna pay a company 4x the price of the skates for shipping so im stuck on the x-ray collabs
pretty much every other brand is in the same boat as bt.l skates, tiger ice and corepads the only companies i've noticed make something worth it for glass are x-ray with their bad quality control but great availability and ghostglides with their terrible availability but great qaulity control
The pad itself wasn't half bad though, used it for prolly 3-5 years ish.
good times, icemat&WMO
@@avinin1337 Yeah, icemat was definitely the name of one of them :P Pricey as F to replace those tape pieces called "skates" or whatever :P And needed to be replaced SOOOO often :P
The cinematography of your videos is just insane
I love your videos bro. I like the efficiency 👍
Let me make it more clear: Wallhack warranty is only 3 days after getting your unit. Check for imperfections to make sure you don't get scammed.
I have the Skypad 3.0, and have had it for about 1.5 years, and I love it. I dont think i can ever go back to cloth
i have used a glasspad for overwatch, specifically the skypad 3.0 and i had a lot of issues overtime. It gets really scratchy and your skates wear off a lot faster compared to a cloth pad.
Love your picks of light and ambient, your office looks really cool!
If you want to be better, train your arms and forearms, like optimum, for fine muscle control.
put a heat lamp over your mousepad
