My French teacher has a fish tank in his class with a ton of guppy’s but almost none are as colourful as these. He also got a ton of crayfish and a huge sucker fish in there. I have seen the crayfish give birth.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Could be the nicest thing anyone has done for me : ) The metalhead trait came from the moscow male. The partial snakeskin pattern most likely from the yellow of the tequila sunrise. It was probably created with a micariff yellow and they can have snakeskin/cobra in the back round. The metalhead male looks Fantastic! Nice work.
Yes. I had some killifish, or as I called them derpfish, and they somehow spawned some defective offspring. One had a really messed up spine, and lived awhile until it disappeared. For the aquarium world, that means it was gobbled up unexpectedly.
My father-in-law had some guppies where the tail was up in a 30° angle. So when swimming the tail was straight but the body was looking at the surface. Bit strange and they didn't live long.
I cannot WAIT for the next episode on this!!! if they can stabilize a pretty pattern in the further down the line... that could be a new lil breed of guppy!
Super fun to see! I've been working on some breeding projects with my guppies as well. Decided to focus on crossing blonde endlers (sword tail) with platinum and tequila sunrise guppies. Its so much fun!
could you make a “step-by-step” video on how to make the “Life In Jars” and how much sun the jars need?- can they be in a south-facing window, or do they need constant sunlight?
Ahh, guppies.8 or 9 year old me was SUPER into breeding them. I didn't really know what I was doing, but I'd basically just try to make interesting looking crosses. Still in the aquarium hobby to this day, but I'm doing marine reef tanks now.
I use to breed guppies ,until an ice storm took out power for us for a week..They didn't make it .Even when I moved some ( the Best) to a holding tank close to the fire place..I had some very pretty morphs. It was sad...Right now I am breeding isopods (wood lice ,or what ever name is local to the reader)Including pill bugs... And getting some very interesting morphs..And I have always loved house spiders (cobweb weavers/False Black Widows)..I have kept Black Widows too..SO I found an unhatched egg sac and the spider lings are so cute..The MOM was a almost candy apple red w/gold markings..Can't wait to see what the little ones look like..I wish I could post pics or vids..The comp I'm borrowing is..well Old It hardly keeps up w/YT...(waiting on parts for my real one..Repairs..sigh..)..Love your Vids..Keep having fun..Life is so diverse/interesting when you stop for a second or two and just LOOK...I sometimes just walk outside and look between the blades of grass to see what's going on..I'm quiet sure I look a bit "Strange"..Don't care...I think the strange people are are those that don't .😋...We "Strange People" gotta stick together. 😊
I accidentally started breeding guppies a couple of years ago. This year, in like my F3 or 4 generation, I got one yellow bodied baby that turned out to be a male. Since he was born I have called him my shiny Magikarp
I would die of happiness if there were a RUclips channel dedicated to exploring guppy crossbreeding like this! I have literally searched for videos of various guppy and endler crosses hundreds of times, and this is the best one I have found. I need to check out D Gray (I wonder why I didn't find it before! Bad Google!) You may be disappointed by the look of the moscow trait against a yellow body. The iridescence doesn't show up as well on a lighter body as it does on the grey or black base colors. My most iridescent fish are 3/4th and 7/8ths guppy-endler hybrids with the black body trait from a tuxedo-dumbo mosiac cross. They are even more vivid to look at than the wild-type looking endlers (which have a light body)!
I always had an aquarium as a kid and used to have fun with this kinda stuff using tank dividers. You’ve inspired me to get another aquarium . Nice content as always .
Really cool! I didn't understand everything the first go-round but it challenged me and I learned some new things! And I got to watch fish. Feels good man. (Also I'm sure that one male fish wisely took your fashion advice.)
The Snakeskin pattern was originally known as the tapestry or lace pattern and found in wild caught endlers which were then bred into guppies. I used to have some lace endler /guppy crosses, Bright yellow bodied with black netting pattern over the body and tail some also had black dots scattered around their bodies and caudal tail. The dorsal fin was yellow with a very fine black lace patterning on it. Some of hthe crosses also had some white spots on the body inside the black lacing on the body.
How interesting. Our tank of African Cichlids bread several times. The mother was orange with black spots like a Malawi Scale Eater. The father was blue with dark blue vertical stripes. So their F1 produced fish that were orange with black stripes or spots in a striped pattern, or just orange with black spots like a leopard.
I love this! I'm very interested in small organisms which is why I subscribed 2 years ago or so.. But I also really love guppies lol and tried to research strain breeding years ago... Didn't get far but I'm looking forward to hearing you out.
Hello, I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos! You inspired me to create my own eco-jar! I've only had it for about a day, but so far it's doing very well. :3
Thanks for the interesting video! I love guppies and I would love to see more of them on your channel. In the future I myself want to cross light blue endlers with black guppies.
You could totally make alot more videos about just biology and aninals in general! I personally enjoy all of your videos, no matter what the subject matter.
Years ago I accidentally recreated the blue Moscows by crossing full black guppies with albino light blue guppies. Some of the best looking fish out there
Love these vids, I used to have an aquarium too :). Did you ever make an aquarium for breeding sticklebacks? It is quite fun to see the males build their nest.
That’s fascinating my brother worked for a fish store when he was a teenager and dating the bosses daughter we became his breeders for his Moscow that he got we kept reading him until they had absolutely no white chin and we’re fully black at that point we decided to change our line because we were having problems with cancer in the fish I love the two fish Moscow and yellow guppies is one of the rare chances that you can really tell the females from the males by the coloring. It’s great not to have bland females keep up the good work hope for future updates.
Interesting experiment.. I am about to do same experiment with endlers. I am amazed at the fast speed your baby fish showed colour and also their fast growth, must be due to feeding them live foods
I have black metal lace guppies. I have been thinking about crossing a few with my friends dumbo mosaic male because it seems like the strain I purchased is so inbred they are difficult to keep healthy. I love the way your cross turned out, they’re beautiful!
Currently I only have first generation of my guppies as my females arrived pregnant and died shortly after giving birth so I am letting them grow before considering getting any more fish
You should try a one species ecosphere. Mine only had worms in it that I didn’t know about until after a year of it existing. It was an amazing day finding them because I thought there was only algae in it for sooo long
and had one point the futur baby will have a coloring approaching the wild guppy. It happened to the guppy i breed, after i don't remember how many generation they had loose their colorfull body. But those fish are surprising, out of nowhere i got new form, like snakeskin, leopard or mosaic, they have different type of tail, i curently have 3 or 4 different type of tail, and the most surprising of all, is that after awhile sometime the original form come back. I like those fish they are really interesting to breed.
Not yet. They won't breed true. If I manage to selectively breed them to look like this _and_ breed true then they would be their own strain, but that's not my goal.
You are one AMAZING guy. Your intrested in such a diverse amount of stuff and have the intelligencetoback it up. If only you lived in the USA. Your the kind of guy I'd let date my daughter. LOL
please keep this up! This is very interesting and could help me with my cross-breading projects. Punnit squares are hard mang. For example, how do you know if your 1st breeding pairs are heterozygotes? Trial and error with the f1 and f2 hybrids?
I made a breeding group of all the red/orange platy types i could find in 3 stores. I am really curious what phenotypes i will get to see in a few months.
Life in Jars? Ah I see, so it’s a dominant and only appears on males. But I also read (based on google, so Idk really) that the pattern only shows on around 90% of the males, so maybe the dad just doesn’t show it well. Or maybe there’s a chance that the black guppy is indeed not the father, and we should turn it into a tv show immediately.
Blue Moscow Tequila Sunrise sounds like an amazing drink.
I'd also believe it if someone said it was an off-brand gatorade flavor, too
@@stanleydog1454 Ha ha HA!
Blue curaçao, ginger beer, tequila, orange juice and grenadine? Maybe?
Sounds like a indica/sativa cannabis hybrid
Lol yea

Cool
Tbh that sounds over stocked and unhealthy
Me am french
Sounds overstocked
@Le Baguette Yes, I have never had a pleco but I hear they won't think twice about devouring small fish.

Thanks great to hear!
Really love guppies, and its nice to see a bit of info about their genetics. Thanks for sharing
I really like it when you explain biology
Nice! I’ve been cross breeding shrimps for a bit, can’t wait to get more diversity in my tank!
Good luck!
That's awesome, I love breeding different guppy breeds, I love to see how they end up, I've been working on it for two to four years now.
This is why I love guppies. Just watching all these new creations come to life in real time
Is fish incest a problem?
This is the first time I have ever had this thought.
Yes. I had some killifish, or as I called them derpfish, and they somehow spawned some defective offspring. One had a really messed up spine, and lived awhile until it disappeared. For the aquarium world, that means it was gobbled up unexpectedly.
fincest?
My father-in-law had some guppies where the tail was up in a 30° angle. So when swimming the tail was straight but the body was looking at the surface. Bit strange and they didn't live long.
Guppies handle genetic defects better than most other fish but eventually it does have a large effect.
Yeah, as Mike mentioned, the curved spine is the most common defect you'll see.
Those are some beautiful babies! can't wait to see the f2 generation!
There should definitely be a variation in both phenotype and genotype in f2 generation
I cannot WAIT for the next episode on this!!! if they can stabilize a pretty pattern in the further down the line... that could be a new lil breed of guppy!
I breed guppies for 5 years and always loved what mixes I can get. You are doing great and those are gorgeous!
What a neat project and I’m grateful for the channel recommendation! I love bad jokes!
I think it has been a decade, or more, since I've seen someone use a Punnett square. Mendel alert.
Nowadays most people paint their guppies so it is not necessary.
So beautiful!! Love the vid man thanks

Is it safe to breed them if they're technically siblings?
Yeah I can breed them again, guppies are quite hardy, and then I'll probably end the experiment after the f2 generation.
@Le Baguette yeah only once then try to make a stable geen pool
Love these vids, I used to have an aquarium too :). Did you ever make an aquarium for breeding sticklebacks? It is quite fun to see the males build their nest.

I made a breeding group of all the red/orange platy types i could find in 3 stores.

The snakeskin gene could have been recessive, which is why you couldn’t see it in the parents. That would be neat
