    People keep saying the original has better delivery, which I do agree, but they miss the thing about the intended audience. Japanese tv dramas are known to be exceedingly dramatic with over-the-top facial expression, crazily emotional tone of voice etc. So the Japanese are more used to this kind of "unrealistic/unnatural" style which does not necessarily reflects the skills of voice acting and whatnot. In order words, it is "localized" to cater the Japanese audience.
    Tldr, people have different expectations.

      As someone from a country, where most english media is localised, I can say that hearing the same dozen voices across the whole media gets kinda lame - when each film has different actors with their own voices and expressions you get the same couple voice actors trying to do more or less the same couple voices.
      TLDR: localisations are worse most of the times

    As an English speaker and Breaking Bad fan I of course prefer the original, but can I just say that it warms my heart to see something American dubbed in Japanese for once? I've watched so many shows from Japan dubbed in English but it's cool to think that Japanese people also like certain American shows and movies and want to experience our stories in their language, too. There's something about sharing art across cultures, across continents, that is just really beautiful to me.

    If anything, this tells us that voice acting direction is probably the thing that ruins most english anime dubs. The Japanese dub doesn't sound as good as the original in this case IMO but that's probably because I'm so used to original English one. However you can tell that the dub isn't trying to mimic the English tones, instead they are adapting it to something that sounds natural in Japanese media. Jesse's japan dub (especially in early seasons) probably is a better example because he just sound like the typical Japanese yankee in any anime.

    • @sittingcrowd912
      @sittingcrowd912 Год назад +11

      True but if English dubs were to speak more naturally, people would complain that the voices sound too deep or that they aren’t exaggerating every bit of dialogue. It’s gonna sound off if they do it like that.

    • @devondorr8212
      @devondorr8212 Год назад

      @@sittingcrowd912 That's what I'm speaking against, which is my original point. If you watched this clip you will realize that the japanese dub isn't really "adjusting their voices" because they are dubbing an American TV show. The sound just like they come out of any Japaese media. Surely they will have to adjust to the speed of dialogue, but that should be a joint effor between the voice acting crew and the translator.
      The reason why many don't like English Dub is because they altered their voices so much to an unatural point. (at least to unnatural to people who are used to English cartoons). There are plenty of instances where fans and voice actors both speak against over-imitating the japanese dub.

    As we can see this is an English show so ofcourse the original voice will be apt, but still man Japanese dubbing & voice acting is soo good that the show is looking good even in Japanese. Oh boy these guys know exactly how to put life & emotions in the voice over, this is a thing they are really experienced at from their years of experience in Anime production.

I watch Spanish shows with english subtitles because english dubbing doesn't feel them same. Im already a english speaker, but I watch english shows with englsh subtitles anyways (cuz I'm dumb)
