Why Does The Darksaber Get Heavier?

- Why does the Darksaber get heavier with each swing of the blade? The Darksaber is the fabled weapon of ancient Mandalorian Jedi Tarre Vizsla, but holding the blade now Mandalorian foundling Din Djarin.

I guess that explains moff Gideon using it easily because he's got the dark trooper army so he knew he had won until luke came in
It’s heavy in real life too. I got the black series saber and it is the coolest thing I have ever bought but is massively heavy
At some points during Din vs Gideon it did look heavy when Gideon was swinging it around
@@RealGodfromheaven where did you buy it?
@@mwk1887 I got it off of Amazon
@@RealGodfromheaven that’s because it had the blade as well. In real Star Wars lore the blade has no weight because it’s “light”

God help the one who crosses the warrior wielding the Dark Saber with a clear & organized mind. It would probably be near weightless.
Hoping for this in Din Jarin by the end of the next season of the mandalorian.
Pre Viszla used it like it was a light stick. He had a clear Focus on what his task would be. Maul just used it properly with the power of the dark side. And both Sabine and Gideon wielded it very clumsy.
@@moritzl4024 Gideon was focused and knew he was gonna win as to why he could Weil's it easily
@@moritzl4024 Gideon was clumsy, but that's more due to a lack of skill and technique than anything else.
@@rev0568 He wielded it better than others, but rewatch the fight. Especially at the end, he loses control over the blade and his strikes are very clumsy and inviting for the opponent. Pre Viszlas fighting style was smooth like that of a Jedi. But maybe it was because it was animated. Or maybe the fighting choreography of the live action fight was not that good, because Gideon didn’t looked like he had full control over the blade.
Hopefully they only keep this logic for the dark saber since it’s an ancient weapon.
And because it's incredibly unique.
As long as Disney star war is not led by a good person, there will probably some type of lightsaber that can only be wielded by a blue-hair-quadruple-plus-size-transgender-Sith-become-Jedi, dang I didn't know talking about Sith become Jedi can be political, what next? This one’s a darksaber
It was such a good episode and I think the armorer made grogu a tiny chainmail like chest plate that goes over his robe
This is easily one of the best episodes yet.
I'm thinking it's beskar balls like the on from the razor crest so he can train with them
@@radpan9642 That’s definitely possible, but I think it’s more likely it’s armor of some sort. After all, the armorer breaks down the spear, because “beskar is meant for armor”

My money’s on it being a tiny little Mandalorian helmet for Grogu
bo-katan is an evil usurper, she NEVER won the darksaber in combat, and finaly stopped accepting the mandalorian throne in The Mandalorian. she could have stopped satine's death, she litterally helped burn down a village, THAT is why obi-wan was "cautiously optimistic" when bokatan arived, coz he knew she was death watch. bo-katan was trying to unite her world, but she was actually really bad at leading, thats why she said "i wish i was better at something other than war", coz she was used to following pre-visla, not leading.
Also bo katan wasn’t all that good at combat either. Always needing the assistance of others in order to defeat her enemies.
Ikr she is such a trash leader she caused her peoples downfall like twice now AND still thinks that she is worthy of the throne
@@Fechno3 maybe sabine should've kept the dark saber herself, she would at least have been better than bo-katan, and since she is house visla and her mother, ursa, was next to bo-katan the whole time (at least up until the siege of mandalore) she might not have been taught the history of how mandalore became what is was after the empire
@@HasanKhan-db9zi Sabine didn't deserve ot either. She dishonoredhe heritage by not killing Saxon, and she made a weapon that the Empire used to destroy most of her clan. She is a Demagholka and Dar Manda.
@@HasanKhan-db9zi ugh fuck Sabine the less off that character the better.
I believe it’s the best lightsaber in SW canon. Not the most powerful, but the coolest looking. The way the blade moves leaving a trail of black light is so unique and beautiful. And the history behind it puts so much weight when it reappears.
From Vizla to Maul to Sabine to Dinn, so many hands have held that saber. Good to evil to neutral. It has yet to find a truly worthy master.
Perhaps Dinn will be the one to break that chain. Probably not, given it changes hands like the One Ring in LOTR. Perhaps the Dark Saber has a mind of its own, searching for one worthy of it like the one that forged it.
It might be the most powerful in Canon too, you can make it super light to be much faster than your opponent, or really heavy and overwhelm your opponent.
Imagine someone with enhanced strength making the dark saber as heavy as possible (to where it feels normal for them cause of their strength)? That would be OP imo
@@theoldhermit2601 what would that do? A lightsaber can already cut through anything so using it quickly is basically the only smart way to use it
@@tyresejeffers7857 Lightsabers can also block other lightsabers. Forcing an opponent off balance with the weight behind your blade is a good strategy if they rely on theirs to block.
I believe Grogu will be the rightful weilder of the Dark saber someone who has the force like the Jedi but will be train the ways of the Mandorlians
@@siege824s8 he would have to beat mando in combat the be the rightful owner, I dont think that they would have that, but maybe he gets beat then grogu beats that person to become owner, but over all to me I don't think that's they way the will have it go
I think this is also a message from Dave Filoni to Rian and JJ:
“THIS is how lightsabers work. And THIS is how a person that has never received lightsaber training fights with it.”
Dude, it's a specific trait of the Dark Saber because of its unique crystal. It's fine if you don't like stuff from the Sequels, but it's so weird to make a connection between directors like that.
@@aceofsharks9837 no no, he's got a point
👍🏽👍🏽
The dark saber seems to be unique in this trait though. As far as we know this isn’t how normal lightsabers operate.
@@JP-yf2fk It is. Kanan didn't even know what the Dark Saber was one episode prior to this one. He had to ask a Mandalorian what it was.
Just comes to show how much thought is put into the details
This just goes to show how focused and confident pre vizla and maul were
It’s not just the darksaber. It goes back to George Lucas‘s original description of light sabers as being difficult to wield because of so much energy that runs through them. That’s also why the Lightsaber combat in the prequel’s is so different from the original series, those Jedi spent their whole lives learning to use them.
No, it's just the Darksaber. That description of the lightsaber only really applied to a New Hope. Like many things, it was changed.
@@bleppyboo5969mmmm no
Lets not pretend lucas had this all planned out in his head lmao
@@zac-1 he probably didn’t have THIS planned out but it’s definitely inspired off his ideas. No one is saying Lucas knew this would happen decades after his first film
@@bleppyboo5969 It doesn't just apply to the Darksaber.
Why would Kanan know anything about the specifics of the Dark Saber when he had to ask a Mandalorian what it even is.
All lightsabers are a current of energy that require focus and discipline to wield. If it was easy to wield one, Grevious would never have needed Count Dookus training.
The way Pre Vizla used it in the Clone Wars made it look easy to use as picking up a small stick and swinging it around like you were a jedi, I can only imagine the skill and finesse the original creator must have been able to use it with, especially with the force abilities and a jet pack
I imagine the creator was OP, I want to hear more about him tbh, imagine a show about him
Ok, but can we talk about how when Mando finds the LAST MADALORIANS, and there are only three of them, he gets kicked out of the cult within FIVE MINUTES?
He did not follow the way.
He did not know the way.
Well, the last of his covert, there are other mandalorians out there
It's got an extra requirement for mental strength.
I would purposely scatter my thoughts with each downward strike to make each strike heavier
@@entropy417 fuckin big brained, except it's still a lightsaber, meaning it cuts through everything
@@Orion_44 except for other lightsabers, Mandolorian armour and other lightsaber resistant materials.
The extra weight coming down on someone holding a saber could easily overpower them.
The Dark Saber also absorbs energy from the other blade each time they connect, meaning in a protracted duel, you lightsaber could be broken with a few strong, well placed swings.
@@lyntonfleming its the same reason why Vader was so menacing aside from his force abilities. His cybernetics put the strength of a forklift behind every strike which battered down defenses very easily
@@beetleR6 yup. People seem to forget that a lot, too. Both his legs are cybernetic, meaning he can literally jump with both the force and hydrolics. Plus the physical strength required to not simply have your weapon sent flying from your hands. Which I think did happen to Ezra in Rebels.
I love the episode with Sabine and the Darksaber as Sabine is my favorite Star Wars character and Mandalorian.
Bruh.

Perhaps his crisis of faith and newfound respect for droids makes his thoughts less focused. Guess he needs to make that pilgrimage to the Mandalorian mines.
Might also be his unwillingness to lead as well. He doesn't want to rule. He wants to be himself a warrior and soldier. Though Boba Fett is willing to rule.
@@rannenw6207 boba isn't a mandalorian so he can't rule mandalore but he may be able to convince mando that he'd be a good ruler and he needs to rule to create a better mandalore.
@@Dragosmom. he actually is more mandalorian than Din though. He was cloned directly from Jango Fett after all.
@@beetleR6 mandalore is a religion first and foremost no? Besides what are the ethics on cloning the pope? Is there now multiple popes? Are the clones imposter? What if the clones disagree? I believe treating boba as jango's son is the right move and he wasn't raised to be mandalorian so unless converted he isn't. Djinn is a foundling.
@@Dragosmom. But he was. Jango trained him the way Jaster did to him. Which is likely alot of cross with Din's training. Just because Boba doesn't follow Din's creed doesn't mean he did have his own as we have seen he does have his own. One line that is so vague in the way it said doesn't make it any different. He said never said I was doesn't mean the same as I am not Mandalorian. It means he has no need to tell Bo Katan that he is. It would also mean the Armor doesn't belong to him because he is not Mandalorian. The Armor has to be passed down through the clan and Jango gave it to his son or his clan and Jaster's clan.
It’s those times where the phrase “Empty your mind” is key to wielding the Dark Saber properly.
I’m gonna miss the spear just because it really made him look even more like a arsenal.
Carl Weathers has to help Mando find his swing. "It's all in the hips Mando"

The literal essence of bearing the weight of ones guilts, responsibilities and mind
Such a good episode
Name/title of this series?
Noticed this in the finale. When Din ignites the Darksaber before getting Grogu back, he still struggles to use it. When he ignites it after getting Grogu back, he can easily hold the Darksaber above his shoulder, meaning it's easier to use.
Thank you for clearing this up, makes more sense now
This just goes to show the attention to detail, Disney went through IRL character development
This brings a new more awesome perspective on moff gideon.
Great explanation thx!
I recall seeing another theory on why it might be heavier and that one suggested that it's sentient and not accepting him as a welder tho imo the idea of it just being hard to control seems more believable
While a kyber crystal is alive, this would imply that anyone the saber doesn't accept it would act heavy for. In Star Wars Rebels when Sabine fights Gar Saxon, Saxon at some point takes the dark saber from her and tries to kill her with ease, does this mean he's more worthy than Sabine who had trouble with it? No. I like the initial theory but this explanation is much better and continues with the shows lore that the dark saber is heavy to someone who has trouble connecting with it. Gar Saxon was able and Mof Gideon was able to fight easily with the saber because of there strong conviction and belief that they were right or could win. EDIT: Not debating with ya just agreeing and adding on examples!
Din won it through combat & is probably the most truest Mandalorian of his time I can’t see why it wouldn’t accept him. Also, Jedi’s don’t find their Kyber Crystals the crystals find the Jedi. So Tarre Vizsla most likely had a 1 of kind crystal find him that the Star Wars universe has never seen before. So people can guess and assume all they want there is no information on the construction of the weapon nor the crystal inside. It’s open to any possibility all we know is it’s more powerful than a lightsaber, when Din fought Ahsoka her lightsaber strikes on his Beskar armor did nothing while Din’s beskar spear glew bright red when it was struck from the Darksaber.
Really adds to the rarity and legend behind this blade....
I know it's an outrageous thing to say. But I always loved Rebels just a little more than Clone wars (just a little). Anyway so glad they tied the dark saber being heavy thing to the book of Boba Fett.
*clutches pearls and laughs nervously at beginning of your comment* 🤫
Mans needs a hug and an actual visit to see the child
I thought that is just how all light sabers are. That they connect with their weilders emotionally and mentally that is why the Jedi can wield the lightsaber so efficiently
Kind of but not in the same way. Anyone can pick up any lightsaber and use it, but the ramifications of using it could be almost entirely random due to that connection to the force. The darksaber was made as the answer to lightsabers, it isnt attached to the force necessarily, but it derives its strength from the user which may or may not cause them to go crazy if they have it long enough.
Best explanation so far!
Yeah my unresolved feelings and emotions would make that sword 12 tons lol.

Isn't that a draw back to the darksaber since if you're not stable you're going to lose a duel or have difficulties fighting
I guess it depends on how you look at It. The Mandos wouldn't mind a unstable leader being replaced with a stable and confident one.

Moff Gideon wielded the dark saber like it was nothing. He was clear in this thoughts while using it
The dark saber ( when you’re emotions are full tilt) is the only one I think that is the personification of the saying “ a life has weight remember that when you have to take it “
Darksaber be like: The one that wield me will rule Mandalore...but...no depression, please.
The darksaber would be like trying to pick up a truck for me
Moff Gideon wields it easily because he’s a sociopath with a complete lack of emotions
Kanan also explains why lightsaber locks happen
Dark Saber: takes years of devotion and pain to focus the user and reduce its weight for the wielder
Me & my ADHD: aight imma head out
This is fascinating. Not only because it’s a dynamic weapon, but because it is a weapon that only someone with total mastery over the light side of the force could truly master. With the credo of the dark side of the force gaining strength through passion, a master of the dark arts would feel the blade rapidly becoming heavier and heavier until it becomes entirely unwieldy. Though I do suppose there could be a dark side force user powerful enough in the force that their force augmentations of their physic could outweigh the massive shift in mass. That might come at the expense of more thorough usage of the force in combat though.
Well mando had the perfect opportunity to ask ahsoka for some insight in wielding the darksaber when he went to check up on grogu
Anakin ain’t pickin it up
Damn that thing would be like an anchor to me 😂
Guess you can see.... Din had some...... EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
The Dark Saber must at least weigh as a Star Destroyer for Darth Vader
HOLY SHIT MAUL WAS MORE POWERFUL THAN WE THOUGHT THEN. HE WIELDED THAT THING EASY- AND HE USED THE DARK SIDE OF THE FORCE SIMULTANEOUSLY!! SO. MUCH. EMOTION. SO. MUCH. ENERGY. HOLY SH*T.
Kinda shows how disciplined Darth Maul was. He's often shown as an angry and emotional guy, but to me it always seems like he's putting on an act without being fully possessed by the dark side. As he develops he clearly has his own unique motivations and goals, almost being like a wise sith. Even in that last fight with Obi-Wan in Rebels, it seemed Maul was doing it to get to the end of his road. His last words to Obi-Wan were almost brotherly
You have to literally mentally become one with the blade.
A true swordsmen thought.
Think if you are flowing to think its light and powerful maybe un tapped powers.
I forgot about the Rebels explanation! I need to rewatch that show at some point

Me: Whoa this is actually pretty light
Brain: Remember that one due date
And then you have giga chad pre viszla who's one of the few non force users that's skilled with a saber and swings it like it's nothing
I love how he goes down this rabbit hole as if they don’t literally explain this in the book of boba 🤣🤣🤣
Also it’s because he tried to give it away immediately after winning it, he basically deemed himself an unworthy ruler of mandalorian so the darksaber acts like that until he can redeem himself
Also the one who created it was a force user. You could say that it’s easier for him bc he was using the force to guide it and made it easier. Cuz I feel like they said the same thing with lightsabers and that’s why not that none force user use that
“You cannot control it with your strength.”
If tar visla saw what his descendant pre visla was doing, He’d probably Not be happy
I need a show or movie about Tar and his heroisms
If it works the same for lightsabers, that explains why Jedi are able to weild it fluidly. Because of their way of life (cutting off all connection at an early age) they naturally have less to worry about or think too much about
This makes so much more sense than some of the “the sword is sentient” stuff floating around RUclips
I mean it is to some extent because kyber crystals are heavily implied to be semi-sentient and "alive" on at least some level.
A clear mind is the key to properly wielding the darksaber
I was wondering why Darth Maul & Pre Vizla wielded it so easily. Thanks for clearing that up
I knew it had some psychological impact because Paz Vizla being a bulky dude still had a pretty hard time swinging it around.
My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow!
The fact that this video needs to explain everything also explains how a lot of people underestimate the lore from The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch. Seriously, they are good shows and watching those will greatly benefit your understanding of the upcoming Jon Favreau shows.
Clone Wars and Rebels, yes. The Bad Batch, no.

The blade litterly vibe checks you
Laban wasent talking about the dark saber specifically about its energy flowing in that manner, that’s how all lightsabers are.
He was holding back that he had to show his face
Well at least he got his son back so it should be a little lighter.
Imagine being constipated in a duel using the dark saber, that must be damn heavy
Which explains why she was telling him to clear his mind, so that the blade may be lighter
Most of his clan being killed? The Armorer herself said that his was a clan of two. I believe you mean that the majority of his sect was killed since Din and Grogu were the sole members of his clan
Me with depression: sword heavy
JarJar (blissfully ignorant) + Dark Sabre = Death
It’s technically a high powered light saber, this same side effect can be caused using normal sabers when not a force wealder, the current of power is still there and it causes a sort of off balance equalibrium feeling and a non force wealder can’t use a regular saber for long without enhancements like greavas has
Maybe that's why it seemed easier to lift for Mando at the end, because he was with Baby Yoda
