- All of the body work is done. metalwork and body filler work got is all finished, now it is time to get this Rolls-Royce Ghost painted. And I am going to show you how to get it all done in the driveway while still getting a professional end result. There is sure a technic to this, but I will show you all of the tips and tricks necessary to get it done right while explaining the full paint process start to finish. There is really no need for the paint booth, as long as you know what to do and I'll show you how.
Привет. This is such an INCREDIBLE undertaking. You have to be incredibly talented to take on a project like this ... and you results show not only your confidence ... but those 20 years of experience you mentioned. Just outstanding work.
What you're able to do in your driveway is honestly insane. This is one of my favorite car rebuild channels because you show how accessible rebuilding cars are to anyone.
Thanks Ryan, I basically work with what I got. And I got about as much as most folks out there :-) so if I can do it, most guys out there can do it to, i'll just give them some tips and tricks along the way
You are definitely talented!!! Your approach to problem solving is on the highest level, thanks for the clarity of your lessons, I have learnt so much by watching your videos, many thanks!!!
You're very welcome! More videos to come with much more useful info !!
Awesome per usual!!
Thanks again!
Muy bien Bro saludos desde Honduras 🇭🇳🇭🇳👌👌excelente trabajo
Mucho gracias Marco !!
How come this video does not have millions of views, I just can't believe it.
You and me both, RUclips got to get its act together and start promoting this video a bit more :-)
This is a fantastic series
Thank you for explaining the steps so that we can understand and repeat it. You are a professional painter?
I wouldn't call myself a "professional painter" I would consider the guys that work in the paint booth day in and day out to be a true professionals. I'm just a guy who paints every now and then and sort of has this painting thing down 😀
This guys is not a professional.
Excellent work 👍🏻 it’s nice to have the works space
Yes indeed!
That was jus insane brother…u made maximum use from minimum toolset 🛠 🧰 salute…loads of love from ..India..🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Thank you Khan !!!
@@fix206 🤝💕
I want to see the builds in the background too!! Lol
There is really only one build in the background, it's a Chevy Silverado with a real light front end/suspension damage. Don't think it would be worthy of doing a video on The last video on this Rolls-Royce will drop on Sunday and at the very end I will do a sneak peek into the New project. It is going to be something different than my usual rebuilds, hope you'll like it. Stay tuned !!
It’s like xmas every time you bring these videos out buddy!!..👍🏻👌🏻🍻...hell yeah the cut and buff deserves its own video 😂🤤!...can’t get enough useful info..
Appreciate the love buddy... Cut and buff video is due to drop this Sunday with a glimpse into the next project at the very end. Hope you'll like it 👍👍
Best channel on RUclips...precise to the point
Thank you Marris! I appreciate that!
Fabulous work 🥂👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Really beautiful work. I have watched the whole series. You are a pro plus❗️
Thank you so much 😀
your work is absolutely brilliant! Love watching your content.
Thank you very much!
are you in washington state ? just a guess
Yes I am... I'm in Auburn/Federal Way area
Very nice result given the circumstances. Can't wait for the final look...
Thank you! Video with the finished product will drop this Sunday. Stay tuned !
You did really good job 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you Sir !!
Another excellent video. Learnt so much from your channel. Please do more project videos!
More vids are to come soon!
That looks really good. You can't tell it was ever damaged, which is perfect. Maybe I will let you paint my Geo. 😎
Let me fix a few more Rolls Royces, so I can level up in quality to start working on Geos :-)
Nice work and well explained. I noticed that you friend had not cut his grass. This is very important to keep the trash down, because a newly mowed lawn can generate a lot of dust and particles. When I lived back in New South Wales decades ago, a friend and I used to work on cars at his place and he never cut his grass for a couple of weeks before we were going to do painting. I remember one time a large bug landed in the paint, but the paint was almost dry, so it only got stuck by its feet. Once the paint was dry, we were able to remove the bug, leaving just the feet behind. Looking forward to seeing the end result, which no doubt will be at least as good as OEM. Actually, you should be careful not to exceed OEM, because it will show up the rest of the vehicle!! All the best from Queensland Australia.
I'm pretty sure not cutting the grass wasn't intentional... I'll do my best not to exceed the OEM standards :-)
🤜🤛exelent my brother
Thank you my friend ✌
It's look fantastic, great job!
Thank you very much!
work of art
Appreciate it!!
Looking great! 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Good job man. Thanks for the video.
You bet, Thanks for watching!
That looks great. I painted all four corners on my daughter’s car yesterday and it rained over night... wasn’t supposed to rain for days. I’m looking forward to your video on cut and buff but I think I need to wet sand the water marks out. Thanks for the time making and editing the videos.
take a heat gun to those water marks, keep the heat moving to not melt the clear.
Yeah, those water spots do suck. I have had to deal with my fair share of them in the past. But on a good note cutting and buffing takes care of them every time 👍
You do ok body work and painting you kinda know what your doing
Hey, as long as my body work and pain is just OK, that's good enough for me 🥺 I'd like to get your take on my shortcomings, is it really that obvious that the car got repaired? Is my body filler work shoddy and wavy? Did I get a ton of orange peel and runs in my paint/clear? Maybe you have some tips for me, I always strive to improve my technique. Please do share some wisdom !
Brilliant.
Thank you!
awesome driveway job. i personally don't like to mask off my primered area because of that line it makes and that line is hard to sand out. I've seen them show thru the paint even after it looks like they've feathered them out good.
I normally always put my masking paper little further out so that way I don't run my primer all the way up to it, the masking paper is basically there just to keep the smaller overspray droplets off of the adjacent panels. This way I don't ever get any hard lines that I have to sand
Beautiful car great job...
Thank you! 👍
I wish you'd post a list of the products you used. Excellent impressive work!
Thank man! As far as the materials go, sometimes the availability on them will vary depending on your location. Plus I'm always trying new brands of basecoat, clearcoat, primer, sealer, Bondo and so on to see if I find something new that's cheaper and better that other stuff that I have used in the past. Most of the products you can acquire at your local autobody supply/paint store will work. I personally don't use PPG or Dupont basecoat/clearcoat because of the high cost. There are a lot of good cheaper alternatives that will be on par with more expensive stuff. And the only time I would use higher end materials is when I'm working on a higher end vehicle. But most of the time I repair just your run-of-the-mill cars therefore there is no need to shell out a bunch more money on your top shelf materials..
Great job! Did you hose that little dog down? He’s likely to be a dust culprit too
lol... The dog is actually pretty skittish and avoids most people including myself like a plague which I guess is a good thing because it stayed a good distance away while I was painting :-)
The only difference between you and Rolls repair is they have some better facilities if I was in the same spot I would def use you.
I used to be in the business (he is doing a black Rolls in a driveway FFS! )your friend is v lucky!
Thanks Carl ! The way I see it, you may have the best facility possible, but if the technician is inexperience, than the end result will be less then satisfactory. Or in my case, I know what I'm doing and I can make it look good just about anywhere. Thank you for the comment!
Nice job 👍
Thank you Jose! Cheers!
Subscribed! Great video! I paint and do extensive bodywork. I just love working on bodywork videos! Have a Jeep Wrangler restore video on my channel. Just wondering if the owner mentioned any overspray on the white SUV?
Thanks for the sub! No overspray on the SUV, no complaints there :-)
أنت فنان في عملك...أنت تحب عملك 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you !!!
nibs for day excellet job
Actually this job didn't have too many nibs...
Hey just wanted to say thanks . my project came out great . no runs or anything . I pulled out my chair and just stared at it for a while . of course there is a problem . where I taped to I have a hard line where you can actually feel the new paint and the old paint . I need to fix this and also blend the old paint with the new paint . do you have a video on this ? Or instructions?
Good job man !! Got more videos in the works where I'll be showing blending and taping technics... stay tuned
This is awesome! Really looks good! Which clear coat gun did you use? What was the PSI? And more question, what clear did you use? Sure looks good!
I don't recall the brand of the clear, but it's the same stuff that I used on a previous project which was an Acura TSX. For clear I use my Iwata LPH 400 gun, and I shot the clear right around 30 psi ... I'm used to spraying all of my work outside so I guess I've gotten to be somewhat good at it :-)
Thanks much. I am looking forward to the 48 chevy build. I had a 50 with the corner windows when I first started driving. It was driveable. But that was about it. lol Wish I had it now! It was the color of Sanford and Sons truck. lol
Дуже цікава ваша робота
Благодарю!!
Learn too you!!!!!!!!
Thank you my friend !!
Legend !
Thank you, thank you very much 🕺🏻
What type of paint do you use? Is it a low VOC catalyzed epoxy or PU? Is regular single-component paint still available any more? (It's been a long time since I did nay body work, just trying to understand what's available now).
I'm not sure what type of a paint it is, all I know that it's not waterborne, it gets reduced 1:1 and I put a couple of coats of clear over it, hope this explanation is good enough :-) As far as single stage paint goes it is still available, but my understanding is that it is primarily being used on fleet vehicles to keep the cost down.
Be curious on how paint looks compared to the OEM. RR has quite the process, especially on the Ghost's. Several layers of clear, each sanded smooth between coats. I understand that is not the purpose for this exercise though.
Oh I'm sure it's quite a process, but I'm pretty sure I got it close enough to where 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. And as far as my friend/the owner of the car is concerned, that's good enough :-)
@@fix206 Thanks for the response. If you wouldn't mind, do you think you could tell me what you see when you finish the cut and polish? I know there are many variables, including the clear coat quality vs the OEM. I know you have an idea of what you are looking at, and a camera will never show it. I'm always looking to learn how close a person can get to those finishes utilizing these cost effective methods. No worries if you can't or don't want to get into that kind of detail. I've done some high end work in a prior life, but of course I had access to high end materials and always wondered... LOL
I never really try and get some crazy looking finish, most of the stuff I work on is just your standard run-of-the-mill cars that don't require a show quality look. With this one I literally just flattened out any of the orange peel that was present within the clearcoat and did a 3 step buff... The finish I ended up with wasn't too far off from other panels that retained their original paint. So I was good with that. And I'm sure if anyone was overly picky they can find a flaw in just about anything.
Hey me again . I know I ask a lot of questions . 😆 . just wanted to know how long does basecoat clear coat paint to FULLY CURE . thanks for the reply . its also winter here 30 degrees so I know the temperature has a lot to do with it . I have other parts to paint so thought I'd ask .
if the freshly painted vehicle is sitting outside in a 30 degree weather it may take a week or so for clear to mostly cure... but if the rig is sitting in a garage then probably 2-3 days... normally I do a sniff test, it you put you nose right up to the fresh clear a take a whiff and you don't smell anything then you're good, if there is even a slight presence of smell then it's still not cured
@@fix206 thanks
ficou top bom trabalho...
Obrigado Krekauto !!
With automotive paint do you have to be concerned with overspray landing on nearby things or does it dry before it gets there?
It is mostly dry once it gets few feet out of the paint area
@@fix206 Good to know, I've been doing some painting on truck in my yard and was concerned about Neighbours but they are about 200 feet away.
Glenn you are safe, especially at that distance...
Do you have a video on basecoat blend and clear coat blend so I can learn this ? I'm at the point where I can finally put some base on . also what is basecoat blend? My paint sheet mentions adding that to the base .
are you referring to the process of blading the base coat or a base coat blander that can be used together with base coat during a base coat aplication?
@@fix206 my paint sheet says to add a basecoat blender to the basecoat . it also says to hit the repair area with a wet blend of just blender .
I just did a paint job where I had to use the blander, I'll be posting that vid later down the road... this is the stuff that I use... it works great ! amzn.to/3EQnens
@@fix206 ok great . it seems there are a few ways to do this
A classroom explanation and demo would be great
Thanks
later down the road I will explain the process to a tee
Да это смелый поступок, такую тачку, на улице красить. Good job though 👍
Thank you, тем не менее все получилось классно ! В воскресенье выйдет финальный видос этого авто где будет детальный обзор всех панелей которые были сделаны и покрашены !
@@fix206 давай посмотрим, молодец, что сказать 👍
👍👍👍
How much paint you used per panel or piece? Great video
Since I sealed the panels with a dark colored sealer, I only had to do two coats of base. I think all in all I used less than 1 pint of basecoat between all of the panels that had to be painted
You’re overlapping 50% on clear here right?
50% sometimes 75-80% just depends on things such as whether I am painting a horizontal or a vertical panel, if I'm using thicker or thinner clearcoat, also ambient temperature makes a difference so if it's warmer outside than 75-80% overlap works out better
I am amazed this video only has 4300 views. He just painted a fucking rolls royce in his driveway
Lol, I for sure thought this video would get a lot more views than that, especially since was a higher end vehicle being redone in a driveway, in the end looking just as good as if it was done inside of a professional shop.
💪🏻💪🏻👍🏻
Thanks buddy 👍👍
Do you use a flex additive for primer/sealer/paint/clear when painting the bumper cover? What paint gun do you use for the clear and what brand of clear do you use? Thanks!!
I normally don't use any flex additive, and I've never had any issues. Even the cars that I fixed after they got into a fender bender or an accident down the road, bumpers that I painted held up just fine
I think most body shops that get new bumpers and not wanting to sand prep the bumper use a flex additive such as the bulldog. otherwise, it will peal if it's a new bumper.
@@evelinniko9449 I honestly don't remember last time I've used a new bumper. I am always able to find a used OEM bumper. And I just paint over factory paint without the use of flex additives. Always had good luck doing it that way...
😍👍👍👍👍
Thanks man!
people who watch his channel you will learn more from school or someone who has experience
You are right, the only way to learn is to go to school or find someone who has at least 30-40 years of experience in this field so they can teach you every single thing that I know in just a few weeks. And also since I have no experience in this field no one should listen to a word that I say. Well guess what, I went to school for this and I learned more in my first couple of months on the job that I did in the whole time I was in school. You sound like a true expert in this field... Mind sharing some of your work?
You don't need sealer for black
No sealer needed specifically for black color? That's news to me, can you point me in the right direction where I can educate myself on this a bit further? Thanks in advance..
Painting half the bumper? On a Rolls? You already have it off why not do it properly then?
There's more than one way to do it properly, the area at the bottom of the bumper is very thin so it is perfect for a seamless transition. Also this way the other side of the bumper that did not get repainted, retained the original color match to an undamaged fender.
RIP ozone layer :(
How so?
God help who ever buys that frankenstein Rolls.....
Structurally this Rolls Royce was fine even in its "wrecked" state. All I had to do was to fix all of the cosmetic stuff. Therefore if this thing gets into an accident later on down the road it will take that impact just as well as it did first time around. All of the outer skin on all of the vehicles is there mostly just for looks. It's the inner structure of the doors and quarter panels that is made of much thicker/stronger metal and that along with A, B, C pillars is what provides most of the structural protection in case of a side impact
I'm just trying to figure how you can own a $300k car but cheap out when it comes to repairing it.No way I'm getting my $300k RR repaired in a driveway.
If you watch the first video of the Rolls-Royce series, I stated there that this was my friends car. In my videos I show people what could be done in their garage or even in a driveway. I have worked at a bodyshop years ago where I've seen other technicians come out with having worse end results while working in a controlled environment. Comes to show that you don't need a fancy building with a lot of fancy tools and a paint booth to achieve a good end result. It's all about what you know.
Rolls Royce engineers commited suicide after watching this video....
I'm sure they couldn't care less 😆
Först!
LOL yes you are !!!
@@fix206 btw, I trully appreciate your video's, they are awesome
Could you please stop doing your stuff to our cars? They’re looking better than new cars off our assembly lines! Yours truly, Rolls Royce CEO.
I try my best 😂
