Big up Miss Sally. I’m in love with her!! This is why we need to stop this demonising of our colonial history. There was bad & good from that time, & Miss Sally is clearly part of the good. ❤️
Irena god send you to Jamaica. Jamaica should proud to have you. I look forward to your content every week. The Jamaica tourist should be paying you. I was born in Jamaica never thought I would return until I start watch your channel now I talk about is Irena and Jamaica. Jamaica loves you. I work for airline and always recommend your your place to stay. I’m sure this year I’ll be one of your guess
Her late husband *Perry Henzell* was the director of the most famous movie from *Jamaica* and the *Caribbean* at large called *"The Harder They Come, They Harder They Fall.* This was the Era that transcends *Jamaica* into pop culture for good. *Out of Many, One people* indeed. Bless up *Irie* 🙏
I had the best time in treasure beach! Only went to the restaurant at Jakes but food and ambiance was excellent. South coast is magical and it's a level of peace that's hard to find. Treasure beach has the best seafood. My favorite was going to eggys bar on a friday, around 10 am the fisherman come in with the catch and we bought four giant lobsters for $20 USD, eggy grilled them up and we had a feast. Catch a boat right there then off to pelican bar for sunset. We also did black river and ys falls while there. Our favorite was just laying by the pool and relaxing. There is no pressure to do anything there but rest. Cant wait to go back. We live here on the island 4 months out the year and love your videos.
Irina you are the "Treasure" in the Jamaica Tourist Board. I know you are not employed by them, but you ought to be; or at the very least get a monthly stipend from that ministry. I hope you and your family will make Jamaica your PERMANENT home, because the island would not be the same without you. One Love
My, my, Irina, you've really outdone yourself this time - this documentary is nothing short of PBS or BBC quality. I've never heard of places like this before, but while watching, I had the distinct impression that this family, this little hotel, this town, the people , this is all the true, true, REAL Jamaica! Nothing flashy, but just REAL and authentic Jamaican culture, REAL and authentic Jamaican people. When I saw that old-time kerosene lamp when you entered Miss Sally's house, I knew we were going to be treated to some AUTHENTIC Jamaican culture and history. Congratulations on another well-done video - it took a foreigner to show the JTB how to REALLY promote and showcase Jamaica, its history, its people and its culture!
When watching Irene's Vlog, it encourages people to appreciate the island 🇯🇲 and to visit Jamaican. The Jamaican government should restrict some youtube video vlogs. Showing violence and murder in Jamaica. It's not good for the country with misinformation. I will unsubscribe violence videos
Thank you for creating this post! I looooooooove Jakes and have been visiting since 2006, back in the “no AC or hot water” days;). I booked my second trip whilst in the midst of my very first visit to Jake’s, lol. In 2021, I turned 50 and we had a large group coming down to celebrate. Unfortunately, just weeks before my birthday, the Covid-19 Delta wave came about, took over Florida and landed Jamaica on the “Do Not Travel” list. Even though we were all vaccinated, knowing how critical that particular strain was (and at the time Jamaica still had rather low vaccination rates) in tandem with the limited number of hospitals available to the residents of Treasure Beach; and also the chance of any of us having a breakthrough case (something that before then, we’d not really known to happen) and having to possibly quarantine in an airport hotel for up to 2 weeks, therefore missing work Stateside, we had to cancel:( That said, we’re hoping to recreate the celebration this year!! Fingers crossed:). Soon come. X
Another fantastic video Irie Lady! Right now, JTB feet are all up, cuz dem no have no work fi do, given the coverage and the different treasures you've highlighted since doing your vlogs! This is indeed occupies a line on the bucket list, lol. Side note : Senior Henzell, Mr. Perry was a pioneer, as it relates to his ideology of the audience whom which he made 'Harder they Come' for. That movie is a collector's item and definitely one of the many treasures of our rich and vibrant history. The segment with Ms. Sally, the kids and art was a top notch moment! Gwaan dweet! Massive appreciation to you and your team and the work you're putting in. Recommendation: Given the hot topic with Accompong Maroons and the current government, I think a series of vlogs, capturing and surrounding the history of the Maroons in Jamaica, would be a mighty thrilling one. All the best.
The Henzell family and Jake's are a Jamaican national treasure. The south coast is to me one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Embrace the laid back natural feel of Treasure Beach. While there go see my friends at the Little Ochie in Alligator Pond. Chef Evrol Blackie Christian creates wonderful seafood meals
Once again, you continue to produce the best videos about Jamaica. Your work is simple top quality and it's time you hold some master classes for upcoming youtubers. You are simple the best.
Thank you Irena for taking time to pinpoint the treasures of Jamaica and sharing them. You are simply the best! Jakes kind of give me nostalgic feeling about Jamaica. I wish he could have posted pictures of children happily walking to school in their uniform and people all dressed up in their Sunday best and walking or driving to church. Those are like the good old days for me. Great work darling lady! Much love.
Irena you are so thorough and factual in your videos. God Bless you! I’ve left Jamaica in the ‘70s and you have opened my eyes to so many facts about Jamaica. You’ve also inspired me to renew my Jamaican Passport and to explore the hidden areas of Jamaica after COVID. Thank you for being a true Ambassador of Jamaica. 🇯🇲
Thank you so much for your visit with Miss Sally and the family at Jakes. We just returned home after our first vacation to treasure beach and all it’s beauty after being locked down (and safe) in Canada. Love your channel and all you do. Lisa & Ken
Hey Irena welcome you to my parish, you are on top of your mark for highlighting such a hidden gem in the south coast, not much have been explored or exposed about St. Elizabeth as a get away spot to telax compared to the north coast and western region, you have truly open up my eyes to some amazing things that we take for granted in Jamaica, I just hope that you keep doing this, I never missed your vlogs, this have given me a wealth of information about Jamaica, this is so wonderful and articulate.💥👍
First of all, Sally is amazing and doesn't look a day over 50! I love the south coast and have been there 3 times and stayed at a small place right down the beach. It is the real Jamaica and has great vibes. But, after the ride from the airport, you will need a stiff drink! Old Hope Road is pretty rough! I would love to visit Jake's but where ever you stay, the place is magical!
I've stayed at Jake's and looooved every second of it....such a beautiful and unique experience...nice escape from the city the Miss Sally interview was a nice surprise!
You can't fake genuine love of our Island, your work shows this, we would have seen it a mile away. #jamaicanambassadoratlarge anyone? We embrace you as our own.
Thanks for this video about Treasure Beach and The Henzell Family that has helped considerably to put the place as well as Jake's on the map. Jamaica despite its modest size has diversity. My paternal family is from Treasure Beach ( known to old timers as Pedro Plains) where we visited in my early childhood. In the 1930s a small hotel was established there, but had marginal success. During the second world war American officers sometimes stayed there, as well as a few Jamaicans . Several years later a relative and her husband started a hotel that was shuttered not long after opening. I recall touring the closed property as a youngster. Glad The Henzells have been a success.
Once again Irie another fantastic story. You are showing me so much of Jamaica 🇯🇲. I left when I was five am in my 60's. Please continue to show the beauty of Jamaica.🇬🇧🇯🇲
😍 Ms. Irie, you keep us falling in love over and over again with our Paradise Island in the sun and our abundantly blessed people ! We are so very blessed to have you giving us a different perspective on how to teach/learn History in such a simple yet concise way that holds our interest, and have us wanting more. You our Dear Friend, have such a gift and you are such a gift. Thank God for you and keep the contents coming. God bless you. Love Always❤
I grew up in Treasure Beach, and always stay at Jake's whenever I'm in town. It's a great place to stay. And yes, I watched this place transformed, over the decades.
WOW !!! "People Interest" Stories just FASCINATES me. I LOVED how this Video was not just about "Jakes", but about the Family and their contribution to Jamaican Culture and Society. I knew about Perry from "The Harder They Come", and I have heard of Jakes and Calabash Festival....but until this VLOG, had NO IDEA they were interconnected via the same Family. Love your Videos Irina (OK, you already knew that....LOL..); but no matter the topic, always grab my interest from Start to Finish.
We stayed at Jakes a few years back, while attending dads 80th birthday, and had the garden room just behind the bar... it was fantastic. loved the room, felt at home and the atmosphere was wonderful. want to go back and stay longer. love Jamaica and miss it. Thanks for such a marvellous and informative video. Thanks.
Another great one Irina. If you created a course on how you do research and produce such interesting videos, I would buy It!!. I am blown away by the quality and frequency of your videos. I do half-ass videos so I know it's a lot of work especially if you are also doing your own editing! Well done! Very impressive!!... from a Jamaican living in the US.
Absolutely beautiful i learn something new every time i watch your videos, very inspirational, i didn’t know Mr Hanzell was the director for the movie the harder they come. Mrs Hanzell and her Son are very inspirational people of Jamaica.
As always Irina, another outstanding video. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. You most definitely are in a league of your own. Lovely to see Jason and his mum, miss Sally, are still going strong in spite of the lengthy pandemic. Jake's is one of my favourite South side haunt, and of course, my second home...So, forgive me for being unashamedly biased in saying, I adore the wonderfully eclectic landscape of the south. It is my little piece of paradise, and right now Irina, you've left me yearning for more. Soon come.
Love Love Love this comment Patricia. OK, there's nothing but Positive, Loving, Wonderful comments from all...but IMO, yours "captured" the TRUE Sentiments about what it is like to stay at a place like Jakes....for those who love this type of "down to earth Jamaican environment and experience". Thanks for sharing.
Irina this was excellent! More of a doc than a vlog as your videos are beginning to enter short film territory in the evident research behind them, editing, interview questions, format and delivery and overall production. The best feature I have seen about the storied Henzell family, iconic The Harder They Come film, notable Calabash Literary Festival and reputable community development which adds great dimension to the journey of the founding and development of Jakes and the area. Treasure Beach is my favourite place to vacation exactly because of the quiet ambiance, local community feel and laidback beaches that feel like you are the only one on them for hours and miles, which often you are. Nothing like spending an afternoon walking along stretches of beach and discovering interesting off the grid spots, residents reflecting the character of the community and watching fishing boats come in. Also walking up into the hills to the Sports-centre is a great excursion during the day to wander/wonder through the grove of trees featuring the various motivational quotes and take in a day or Six-A-Side night football match. The only thing I would add is the wide range of private villas sprinkled along the south coast area that is our usual choice of accommodations along with a few other small boutique hotels. If "laidback and chill" was a place. I know there are some tensions around the low tourism density efforts which hopefully engages other local residents to determine as they may be interested in opportunities for the coming generations of their families. Hopefully it will still maintain its own character as many remember when Negril used to be like Treasure Beach is now. Brilliant work!
Thank you so much for sharing this feedback, much appreciated! Glad you like the video and yes, there are many more stories to be told about the South Coast, including the ones about numerous villas and other interesting gems! Yes, I'm trying to move slowly but surely to bring more quality documentaries, but will keep the vlogs coming as well, since they help the channel to stay alive while I'm working on more complex films :)
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE do your thing Irena and at your pace! I will still be here waiting for your next informative and interesting vlogs while I'm in anticipation to see what's next. Luv what you doing on RUclips my sister from another mother.
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE my mom, grandparents and relatives are all from the south coast (St. Bess) I don't know anything about there but you made me realized now what the south coast of Jamaica is all about. Thank you so much iriena.
It is amazing to see the racial make-up of Jamaica which is indicative of our motto "Out of many one people"; and for the most part, everyone gets along quite well. Totally impressed with the Henzell family and how they have contributed to the community - giving back in a tangible way. Yes, the South Coast is another "hidden gem" of Jamaica and those of us who live abroad and are interested in going back should take note of investment opportunities. Thanks again IRIE for the Great job you have always done!
Is mostly Jamaicans who fear coming home. Many foreigners invest heavily in Jamaica. Foreigners are building 7 homes on my street. I just don't want to hear those fraidy, fraidy Jamaicans in the diaspora complain about foreigners buying out the country!
One of my favorite parts of Jamaica. I just love the vibe of Treasure Beach overall... The vibe is the exact opposite of the North Coast all inclusive places - which remind me of plantations really. Treasure Beach the staff is more like family and the streets are so quiet you can walk in the middle of the road. Love it!
My husband who is Jamaican, recommended your channel to me and I’ve been enjoying all of your videos about Jamaica. It’s 20 degrees below 0 here in Toronto, Canada and I would give anything to be in Jamaica now.
Very inspiring and motivating. My wife and I dream about moving back to Jamaica and opening a boutique hotel in one of Jamaica’s small communities. The success of Sustainable tourist destinations like Jake’s really makes us feel that our future plans are worth attempting.
Do it, and perhaps cons St Thomas as your location. The property values are reasonable and the Parish is ripe for sustainable development and it's a short drive from KIN Airport.
@@gabirohwedder1688 I was so happy to finally see St Thomas in 2020. I fell in love. It has plains like those you see in Africa. Unspoiled coastline and laid back vibe - it felt so pure 🙏
Oh and I forgot to add... Thank you for adding the children who were learning art. That was a wonderful touch. This was also the first interview I have seen of Mrs. Henzell. Wonderful story all around.
Irina you are a gem. Every single video from you should be stored as they represent the real Jamaica. I have heard a lot about Jake's but now I must go there for my anniversary. Thanks
An other great episode, we can see that Jamaica is diverse in term of terrain and climate even though it's a small island. Henzell Family must be proud after watching this documentary. This video added a lot of value to your Channel Irina, Mi cyan wait for the next story about Jamaica.
I had to comment again. This was a brilliant DOCUMENTARY!! I enjoyed it so much. This is beyond the usual RUclips foolery with a camera. So many dimensions given in a simple hotel review. Well done Irina.
Irvine!,,,,,,,, !,,,,,,,,, I love watching whatever you want to showcase, because it’s always inspiring and I’m happy to hear you tell me about my sweet Jamaica. Blessings to you and your family, welcome to Jamaica, wishing you health and prosperity.
I’m 18 years old and your channel have helped me to learn so much about my country that I’ve never knew not witnessed before ..Thank you so much Irena and I definitely will be visiting this hotel soon ❤️🙏🏽.
This is your best one yet and let me tell you it is superb. I happen to know this family well and you did them & the whole Treasure Beach community proud. There are so many interesting Jamaican families & stories dating back decades to present day for you to discover and highlight/share with us because your research and presentation are so on point! You knock this one out a di Park Irena!!! Really good stuff..
I never was able to stay there yet but I’ve visited . This property is amazing and has a sense of peace that is so calming and wonderful. Thanks for sharing !
8:27 My gosh! So relaxing. I would fall asleep within minutes. 😌 This was refreshing to watch, Irina. Reminds me of Saturday morning finds one would watch on the Travel Channel or Amazon Prime. Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos. I love watching, you make me feel like I’m back in Jamaica. I also like your realistic view of the island 🏝 🙌🏾keep up the good work I will be tuning in 💙
What an absolutely delightful profile of the proprietors! One of the reasons Jake's has long been on my radar: Jah Cure filmed (arguably) his most beautiful video for 'Never Find' there with his then-wife - Gorgeous scenery!
Thanks Irie for relating the history behind this place, went to the restaurant once, different experience. Love the film,"The Harder They Come". Keep up the good work.
Irene thank you so much for sharing this Fabolous , simply amazing hotel, I truly love your content and thank you for always showing us all the great and positive places that are in Jamaica 🇯🇲
Beautiful and heartfelt. A few times, I felt misty-eyed! I’ve been to Jakes before, but I did not see all these varied creative aspects! This tour was far more interesting, and now I want to go back! (Whereas before, I was not considering a return in the future.) Thank you for showing me all that I’d be missing!
IRENA,Hello, the LAST time I was in the area, there is/was a beach, called BLUEFEILDS, many years ago totally UNDEVELOPED,I first saw JAKES in some article some years ago, but now they have developed their holdings,,my very LAST time in JAMAICA was 2003, for anUNCLES funeral, Was there for48hours. Now all principal family,on both sides are all gone, there ARE cousins, I know, but we’re in schools in 1992 whenDAD passed on, thanks for showing JAKES, ,had no idea there were so many cottages, nice DRONE WORK too, HAPPY NEW YEAR, CHERIO,🇬🇧🇮🇨🇯🇲🇯🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸
This is my parish , thanks so much for highlighting Jake’s . I have heard about it so many times but not has the chance to visit , it will definitely be on my list the next trip .
@@waitaminute2015 well, many people used that quote, but you are right - John F Kennedy was one of them and he made it famous.
Great story from Jake's family. Well done Irena you are able to find all the Golden destinations in Jamaica 🇯🇲 👏 👍 🙌 love it.
Good to see a diverse accommodation like this, not your typical tourist all inclusive hotel.
Love Treasure Beach, and Jakes.
The Henzell family was one of the first in movie production
Born in Panama 🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦. But getting to know Jamaica through your extremely professional documentaries. Every country should have someone like you ☺️.
Thank you so much! 🙏
There are some people born to this earth with unique gifts straight from their creator and they bless the lives of all who are around them.
Another STELLAR video that highlights what's really special about Jamaica and the Treasure Beach community! Thank you Irina I've learnt a lot today!
Wow! Awesome documentary on not only Jake's but Treasure Beach in general!! Great Job Irie❗️You are so good with your docuvlogs❗️😃❤️
Love it!
I can't wait to visit.
I lived in Jamaica after C hit the world & consider it to be my second home. I’ve never seen it like this before. I loved this. Thank you. 🙏🏽
My husband who is Jamaican, recommended your channel to me and I’ve been enjoying all of your videos about Jamaica. It’s 20 degrees below 0 here in Toronto, Canada and I would give anything to be in Jamaica now.
Please the video channel, I'm in Canada, Ontario and I love her channel share with everybody, please subscribe and press LIKE ❤️
Very inspiring and motivating. My wife and I dream about moving back to Jamaica and opening a boutique hotel in one of Jamaica’s small communities. The success of Sustainable tourist destinations like Jake’s really makes us feel that our future plans are worth attempting.
Go for it Maurice!
Do it, and perhaps cons St Thomas as your location. The property values are reasonable and the Parish is ripe for sustainable development and it's a short drive from KIN Airport.
@@MadeNCda so true St. Thomas would be perfect
@@gabirohwedder1688 I was so happy to finally see St Thomas in 2020. I fell in love. It has plains like those you see in Africa. Unspoiled coastline and laid back vibe - it felt so pure 🙏
@@MadeNCda so true
Oh and I forgot to add... Thank you for adding the children who were learning art. That was a wonderful touch. This was also the first interview I have seen of Mrs. Henzell. Wonderful story all around.
Irina my favorite journalist!
Thank you Irina, I am learning so much about my own country Jamaica. You are incredible.
Jakes my beautiful peace off Paradise my local beach
Thank you once again for sharing a part of Jamaica that I would never know about or visit. You are great ambassador for our little beautiful island.
Another masterpiece! Can’t thank you enough for bringing these informational/educational videos to us.
Blessed Irina, you are a jamaican treasure, love how your videos highlight the culture, our people. Thank you. May your food basket be full always.
Another great informative piece! What an interesting family and history.
Irina you are a gem. Every single video from you should be stored as they represent the real Jamaica. I have heard a lot about Jake's but now I must go there for my anniversary. Thanks
I have fond memories of time spent in Treasure Beach and down the road at Little Ochie.
This is an excellent video.
Thank you so much for visiting and documenting the Henzell’s and my hometown of Treasure Beach!
loved the closing line, She's is a true treasure!!!!💖
what a story and it's all real the key words in this vlogg is community & family thanks for this🇺🇦🇯🇲👍
An other great episode, we can see that Jamaica is diverse in term of terrain and climate even though it's a small island. Henzell Family must be proud after watching this documentary. This video added a lot of value to your Channel Irina, Mi cyan wait for the next story about Jamaica.
She is a pro .
I love the diversity in Jamaica and not many see that.
Another nice thing too is that the boats can pick you up from the doc at Jakes to go to the Pelican bar.
yes, I will mention this when doing a video about Pelican Bar 👍
Very well done Irina!
I never was able to stay there yet but I’ve visited . This property is amazing and has a sense of peace that is so calming and wonderful. Thanks for sharing !
8:27 My gosh! So relaxing. I would fall asleep within minutes. 😌
This was refreshing to watch, Irina. Reminds me of Saturday morning finds one would watch on the Travel Channel or Amazon Prime. Thank you!
Love love love this vlog, it held my attention from beginning to end. Very interesting, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! 😊
I really enjoy your videos. I love watching, you make me feel like I’m back in Jamaica. I also like your realistic view of the island 🏝 🙌🏾keep up the good work I will be tuning in 💙
That's so true she does just like you she makes me feel like i was there
The sounds of the ocean waves will make me sleep better.
What an absolutely delightful profile of the proprietors! One of the reasons Jake's has long been on my radar: Jah Cure filmed (arguably) his most beautiful video for 'Never Find' there with his then-wife - Gorgeous scenery!
Another wowwwww. You are a breath of fresh air!
I've been to Jakes. It was unique but satisfying experience. It's rustic, cozy and natural. Au naturel.
It's a really good experience.

This is my parish , thanks so much for highlighting Jake’s . I have heard about it so many times but not has the chance to visit , it will definitely be on my list the next trip .
A rising tide lifts all boats. I would steal that expression, for we need that now.
That is a quote from the great John F Kennedy!
@@waitaminute2015 well, many people used that quote, but you are right - John F Kennedy was one of them and he made it famous. It's one of the phrases that everyone learns when studying economy, but it's not clear about the origins of the phrase. Some say it was first used in the British Government, others claim it's Chinese wisdom etc.
Buoy Irie. Amazing vlog & excellent content. Will pay a visit when I’m home (again)….👍🏾
Wow I love this video 😍😍😍😍🙌 what a lovely family and st Elizabeth is my home. Will be moving back in a few years. And I need to go and stay at jakes it’s so beautiful
Inspiring story of such a beautiful place and all its glory, thanks so much for sharing Irina 😀 💕
Hi Irina, can you do a feature on - Floyd's Pelican Bar please 😅😉, it's my uncle place, most amazing bar in Jamaica.
OMG, this place looks amazing!!
