    I'm really concerned about Ellie. Especially with her saying "My brother actually did something really really terrible to me when I was 5 years old, that he's continued to do" that's a really scary sentence.

      just a really dysfunctional family all around. Even if Yolanda isn't abusive to her, we've seen her behaviour on the show and in that one video where she is pushing Elliana to the point of tears.And of course, the fact that more than one of her family members have been arrested is very alarming

    • @nothingpenguin7576
      @nothingpenguin7576 3 года назад +572

      @@kellygal3036 I wouldn't necessarily rule out the possibility of Yolanda being abusive as well. Often times victims of abuse, especially young victims who are suffering at the hands of someone they love and rely on (like a parent), will lie to protect that person. I think its definitely possible that both Yolanda and Elliana's brother are abusive figures in her life. In the very least I'd say Yolanda emotionally abuses her by putting an unhealthy amount of pressure on her and pushing Ellie way too hard, and if her brother has been abusing her since age 5 and Yolanda hasn't done anything about it, then that really says a lot about her too. Either way, its a horrible situation, my heart really hurts for Ellie.

    Christi’s behavior is very normal for a mom having a college student for the first time. It’s hard to transition from parenting children and supporting young adults. College kids are adults, but not quite yet ready to be 100% independent (usually). It’s a balance that they will have to figure out. When it starts to become a problem is if chloe is like 25 and the issues are still the same. Until then, it seems like very normal family adjustment periods to me
    Edit: i just want to clear up that I’m not saying that christi isn’t being too controlling. She is. I’m just saying it’s normal for parents and kids to need time to figure out what IS appropriate at this stage of life

      @amyforster1208 3 года назад +110

      Doing your ‘utmost to protect your children’ because you didn’t have that experience, may mean that Christi acts based purely off her instincts. Fear can often determine behavior in these traumatized parents, and often it means they can’t even listen to their children so easily. Hopefully it’s not the case with Christi and Chloe but I’m very familiar with these type of relationships forming, and often only when the child has a family of her own does her mother start to calm down and trust her! Or maybe not, depending on whether the mother manages to find peace.

      I feel like Christi kind of has the opposite problem of Melissa. While Melissa isn’t strict enough and is more of an older sister to her girls than an actual maternal figure, Christi is overbearing as a mother. Neither are good.
      Melissa’s lack of guidance to her kids has led to her kids making questionable choices (vaping, toxic relationships), but at least they became independent and learned from their mistakes. They went through a period of self growth because their mom took a step back and let her kids take the reign.
      Meanwhile, Christi is a good mother in the sense that she wants to stop Chloe from making bad choices and she wants to keep her daughter safe, but there has to come a time where Chloe matures on her own. Even on the show, Christi would make a lot of decisions for Chloe and stand up for her without letting her talk for herself. By doing that, she’s stopping Chloe from being independent and learning from her own mistakes. When it comes to the time where Christi isn’t there for Chloe, Chloe might crumble because she’s used to her mother taking the reins for her by tracking her and protecting her. Chloe should be allowed to make her own choices (dying her hair, not being tracked) without being judged.

      That's a bit sketchy, too much maturity isn't a good thing at a young age. Kids and teens are supposed to be able socialize with others in their age groups. Just because maddie seemed mature before doesn't mean she's ready for adult things. Other child stars who've grown up in the spotlight, were considered mature, but are now messed up terribly as adults.

    Christi is right. The prefrontal cortex which controls impulse control and decision making isn't fully developed until 24. No matter how adult young people think they are, it's scientifically impossible to be fully mature under 24-25 years old. Unfortunately because of the lack of mental maturity it's nearly impossible to get 18-19 year old "adult" teens to understand that. At Kalani, Chloe, Nia and Maddie age they feel they know everything and feel they're "grown". They don't want to be told what to do and want to make their own mistakes, which is just ignorant but expected. 💁

    As much as I love Chloe, Christi is quite toxic. She never lets Chloe speak and do things for herself. Christi’s issues I think stem from unresolved trauma from the show. I think Christi is a good mother she clearly did a lot right for Chloe to become the person she is today But while she has done a lot right she’s also been protective of Chloe which is fine but it can easily become suffocating and toxic. Which results into bitterness towards others.

She might be looking for a motherly figure, but something doesn't feel right about them, and given the lately chaos going around with the new movie, and comments of Sia saying that she wouldn't do any of her work if Maddie is were not involved, it seems to me a bit odd even if the intentions are good. I don't think I truly saw the dysfunction in Christi and Chloe's relationship until she came back for the second time. It was clear that this was more of something Christi wanted than Chloe did. It has also been revealed through some of social media that Chloe suffers from low self esteem and depression. She is in therapy trying to work these things out for herself. I see so much growth in Chloe and I feel that while Christi will always have concerns for her daughter, she does need to let Chloe make some mistakes for herself. True growth will never come without life lessons. That doesn't mean I want Chloe to do anything dangerous. Having said that I do feel that in the case of Melissa, Yolanda and Jess, they have pushed their daughters to become mini adults. Jojo seems to be the most mature of the three. She handles herself well in public and on social media. Maddie and Mackenzie have been given way too much freedom, especially when it came to boys. That has been concerning from the time that Maddie turned 14. I often wonder if Maddie even knew what it was like to be a child. Melissa clearly sees herself as their friend rather than a mother. Yolanda scares me. With her psychotic behavior and outbursts, it concerns me for Elliana. Elliana seems to constantly have to defend her mother and no child should have to be put into that position. We have witnessed Yolanda's outbursts with violence first hand on the show and it very much concerns me what may be happening behind the scenes.

Brynn then asks, “Selena Gomez?” Eliana then responds with, “No, just Selena because she knew someone named Yolanda and my mom’s name is Yolanda.” And as a fellow Hispanic, she was referencing the Mexican-Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla who was infamously killed by her former manager and fan club president Yolanda Saldivar after she was accused of stealing money from her fan club. I think the common thread in all of these situations is mothers living through their children and treating them like adults then addressing them like children.
    For example, Jess would make Jojo song or dance with the reasoning of “I’m your mother so just do it” then when Jojo would be tired(as she was a child); the response would be “you need to grow up”.
    Another example is Melissa telling Maddie to “act like a grown up” then threatening to take away her phone when she was upset.
    I think now that they’re older, the young dancers are realizing that isn’t normal behavior for a mother and so they add distance. It’s common in dysfunctional houses to have some level of distance. That doesn’t mean you hate anyone. It’s just means we need space to breathe and be our own people.
    Ellie’s story breaks my heart and I hope with everything that she can get the help she needs.

    RE: Jessalynn & JoJo:
    1) It's not easy to be a parent to an intellectually gifted child. Brilliant people will automatically tend to lead others because they think faster and they see more options. How does one successfully parent such a child? With great difficulty.
    2) It's doubly difficult to parent a celebrity child when that child is a talented superstar whose performing has led to financial success way beyond that of her parents. Besides having intellectual genius, JoJo is the star and main brains behind her public performances, making her the boss to all her performers. I automatically think of Lady GaGa and Madonna, two other highly successful superstars that also star in their own performances and earn millions of dollars based on their talent alone.
    Jessalynn is very talented in her own right. Her artistic gifts are apparent, especially through her creations added to JoJo's costumes and JoJo's Bows. Both JoJo's parents are very intelligent. JoJo inherited the best genes from BOTH her parents
    With a gifted child, parents must often take a back seat to the performer, even when much of the talent has been inherited. In Dance Moms, many of the mothers of the performers have a history of similar talents, even when those talents were never formally acknowledged or fully expressed by the parent. This explains those parents who want to live through their children.

Girls grow up even quicker these days, and move from home doing further education etc. so it is hard to see Chloe having her Mother interfere in her life telling her what to do!
