Hello Doctor- I think you mention ketoconazole a anti fungal as creating hair loss. But below summary says actual helps to prevent hair loss. Please could you check this. Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication that’s widely used to treat skin and nail conditions like candidiasis, ringworm and seborrhoeic dermatitis. It’s also a common ingredient in many hair loss shampoos and a substance that you’ll often find recommended, usually in the form of Nizoral shampoo, as part of a hair loss prevention stack. Ketoconazole is scientifically linked to improvements in hair growth, making it worth using as a male pattern baldness treatment. It’s also easy to apply, since all that’s required is a quick wash in the shower once a week. While there isn’t quite as much scientific data about ketoconazole and hair loss as there is for minoxidil and finasteride, most studies related to ketoconazole and baldness show that it can be effective for improving hair growth. One study from 1998 compared ketoconazole and minoxidil to see which had the best effects on hair growth. The researchers discovered that 2% ketoconazole shampoo increased the size and proportion of anagen hair follicles at a similar rate to the minoxidil spray. There are also animal studies showing that regular use of ketoconazole significantly stimulates the rate of hair growth, even in hair follicles that aren’t usually affected by balding (such as the DHT-immune hair follicles on the back of the head). Right now, there just isn’t enough data to conclusively say that ketoconazole prevents baldness or definitely regrows hair. However, the scientific evidence that’s currently available does show measurable improvements in hair growth when people use a ketoconazole shampoo.
Actually ketoconazole prevent hair loss if that is caused by scalp fungal infection and inflammation and that is applied locally on scalp. Oral ketoconazole when enters the blood then it contributes toward hair loss.
❤️Good video Dr Berry. I’ve been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I am taking carb/levo. Congratulations on the birth of your handsome little man, what a precious little blessing! 🤗
I have been on a low dose birth control pill of progesterone and estrogen since I was 15. I am turning 30 this year. My OB/GYN doctors have told me that birth control pills do not cause hair loss even though I told them I started losing a lot of hair suddenly within the last 2-3 years. I was vitamin d deficient which I’ve read can cause that but I’m still losing hair, hair loss and alopecia do not run in my family. I had my thyroid levels checked, all normal. I’ve also developed a really random hive condition named dermatographic urticaria within the last 4 years as well and had other scalp issues prior to hair loss that stopped prior to hair loss. I’m getting a little irritated with doctors. I have a feeling it’s my birth control but im also afraid to get off of it because I don’t want my cycles to be all wonky and irregular.
I'm 61 yrs and I thank God not on any medication never have been, there is no stress, no antibiotics but I believe I stopped growing hair. I'm in Menopause and maybe it might be thyroid problems or hormone in balance. Still my hair is thinning....help!
My hair stopped growing with menopause.. It was the same length for 2 years didn't have to shave my legs or underarms hardly at all. Until I started on HTR (bio identical) my bad symptoms disappeared.. and my hair started growing again!
@@texassissy9845 Thank you fellow Texan for reaching out to me and sharing what helped you. I just ordered bioidentical hormones Lord Willing it will be a blessing I'm hopeful. Thank you again. God bless you for your help.
If we have to stay on any of these meds, what can we do to combat the hairloss? Would love you to do a follow up video on what helps us keep / regrow hair. Please and thanks for this video.
Folic Acid daily will help. I take methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. You can take up to 5mg daily. I take 2mg a day now, but have taken 5mg a day when I was on a biologic.
Also, all CGRP inhibitors now prescribed for migraine prevention, cause major hair loss. Not only do they not work, they cause amazing hair loss--some people to near bald.
I dye my hair about every 3 months to get rid of gray or white hair coming in because of my age. I have been doing this for about 10 years. I have been Keto for over a year and have started noticing some hair loss at my temple. I have very thick hair or use to. I use the least offensive hair dye, those without ammonia. Would dying my hair this way cause hair loss?
Oh thanks Dr Barry you're very knowledgeable and very and very good at what you do and I really appreciate these podcasts that you produce and I appreciate you very much my name is Lem .
Blood thinners are on the list. Best alternative to getting off of them, please? Talking to a doctor who is not into natural alternatives will not help and finding a good alternative doc is almost impossible where we live. Thanks
I know I’m going to get laughs from this question but how do you feel about Mane ‘n Tail shampoo to thicken hair? I have heard for years that some use it. I myself have NEVER tried it and almost feel afraid to!!!!!! It claims to NOT strip the natural oils
Dr. Berry, this is not about my hair, this is about my heels . I use to get cracked, bleeding heels when I was on a high fiber, low saturated fat diet cause I was so scared I would die of a heart attack like my mom did at 68. After I started keto, the dry skin stopped, the bleeding cracked heels stopped. I’m 4 years into keto and the skin on my heels is getting as smooth as a baby’s bottom. So excited to see what my skin will be like when I’ve been on it for 10 years. But I do need help with leg cramps something awful. It wasn’t caused by keto cause I’ve had them since 2006 and I started keto 2017 . The only thing I can think of is that I am insulin resistant because my cells are not able to get the nutrients...even Stevia stalls my weight loss, and I think that is do to the insulin resistance ... not only the sugar is not getting out of my system but the nutrients, like magnesium, and potassium which I have plenty in my body but it’s just not getting into my cells because of the insulin resistance. . Nobody can help me . I’ve tried doing the fasting but because I’m gonna be 72 and I’m insulin resistant, I get nauseous if I don’t eat or I’ll get dizzy. I wish you could help me ... please .
Actually, since I’ve last written that note to you dr. Berry, I’ve had a break through with the severe leg cramp problem I had ... my daughter told me to get off dairy and start eating keto friendly fruits and celery juice till noon . Since I started that I have no more severe leg cramping at night ....gone...and I’m able to sleep through the night. I haven’t slept through the night in over 10 years . Nothing took the cramps away and I spent hundreds of dollars on magnesium supplements and other supplements thinking they would help, but never did. What has worked is Celery juice followed by fruits like blackberries, blueberries, watermelon, strawberries, avocados and tangerines, till noon...doing that has taken the cramping away . I thought it would raise my blood sugar but it hasn’t . I test my blood in the morning and it’s at 90. Anything below 100 is good. I’m even able to walk and workout again, with energy off the charts good...I hope this helps someone if they are battling with chronic leg cramps .
@@HoneyDrake ~ I'm going to try this, I too have leg cramps and have tried everything to get them to go away ! I can't Thank You enough for posting this 💖 I'm carnivore but will start the fruit today 😃 Thanks again and have a WONDERFUL rest of your day 🥰
@@jujubunnybea juju, my leg cramps were very severe and to have it end by just guzzling a 32 ounce bottle of water three times a day with the trace mineral drops 40,000volts in it was amazing . My partner has been "diagnosed" with "Frontal fibrosing alopecia(- is a form of scarring hair loss affecting the hair margin on the front of the scalp. This happens due to inflammation and destruction of the hair follicles. There may also be hair loss from the scalp near the ears and from the eyebrows)". Her eyebrows have all but gone and her hair has receded above the ears...they've been giving her various drugs that don't work anyway and this has been ongoing for 6-7 years now through menopause, but would a trial/test of the carnivore diet be worth a shot to try and halt this? If it is indeed "due to inflammation"...I believe it is irreversible ie the follicles are now gone permanently. The biggest issue would be re-introduction of foods as this is a very slow process that is going on so would be difficult to quantify any change??
Thanks for the info, I’m on several of these. No wonder I feel like I don’t have very much hair. But it’s a catch 22. You have to take medicine to live. I need to check your description. I don’t tank you mention steroids but I’m not sure.

Hi Tiffany, it's very commonly a biotin deficiency but since you're on keto, I assume you're eating some eggs and organ meats so this is probably not a problem for you. I'd look for a high-quality b complex supplement or nutritional yeast, let me know if it helps.

Hey Ken I’m not sure if you’re going to see this but is oral ketoconazole different from the topical? I see often that nizoral or any shampoos containing ketoconazole can actually block dht in the scalp, causing less shedding and even regrowth. Opinion?
I had a lot of hair loss when I first started Keto. Too, I have Hashimoto’s & Hypothyroidism. I am constantly fighting hair loss. Is there anything that works?

Mine was due to low iron...even though my iron was in the 'normal' range...anything below 90 can cause hair loss...I ran across that information and mentioned it to my doctor...he checked my iron levels and put me on iron and my hair stopped falling out and started growing back in..he was a hematologist, so was familiar with iron issues. I took it for a long time, had to stop when I had a colonoscopy and didn't return to taking it b/c of the side effects (constipation)..and over time my iron levels must have dropped, b/c my hair is falling out again...I'm older and absorbing iron from my food is more difficult now, that and I'm not a big meat eater...non-heme iron isn't as absorbable. (it is found in plants)...heme iron (from animals) is better. Most doctors are unaware that a person can have hair loss cause by iron deficiency even if the iron is in what is considered normal range. I don't have any internal bleeding etc, so the low iron has to be due to diet and malabsorption.

Dr. Berry, would you please do a video on chronic pain, its effect on the body and weight loss specifically? Not the meds, the pain itself. I've been pretty strict keto with IF for a year, blood meter shows low-end blood glucose, ketones regularly 1.5 mmols to 5ish, and my weight loss stalled months ago with ~15 lbs to go. Side effects It is also possible that metformin may cause hair loss indirectly. Taking metformin long-term may increase the risk of vitamin B-12 deficiency, which can sometimes cause hair loss. However, it is also possible that hair loss in people taking metformin is a result of a health condition rather than the medication.May 9, 2019 I took metformin for years. My hair didn't fall out, but became very brittle. Maybe due to b-12 deficiency.
@@funnyfarm9695 just saw this. Here’s what I wrote elsewhere, too: Actually, for people who have taken Metformin and, perhaps, high doses, long term, Metformin causes hair loss for some, because it blocks absorption of B12. You can Google and find this information. I also know because I’ve had major hair loss over the years, while being on such a regimen. But I began taking B12 with folic acid, along with iron, near the end of June. It is been approximately 1-1/2 months and I have seen hair growth, where I was just about bald. While I do not know how much will regrow, since I’ve experienced hair loss, for decades, it is quite the turn around and I am not using any of the popular chemical treatments, nor micro needling, for my hair, although those might be good supplements, to what B12 is doing alone. But, like with any vitamin regimen, it is important to be consistent. You probably cannot take it, just when you feel like it or fall off and you may not see changes for 90 days, although with this, I started actually noticing changes within 30 days, but was more certain at about 45 days. Hair grown may also be slower, the kinkier your hair is, because kinky hair grows more parallel to the scalp, rather than straighter hair, which grows more perpendicular to the scalp.
can you talk about what to take instead of levothyroxine if my thyroid level isn’t doing good on its own even though I’ve been doing great on keto for 9 months

Please and thanks for this video.
that would be wonderful as I am on a ace inhibitor for CKD
It would be good to know what can be done to help regrowth.
@@jehovaesmifortaleza7031 Does this prevent hair loss or regrow hair already lost.
Agreed, I need to take my meds still. What can I do to keep my hair?
Folic Acid daily will help. I take methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. You can take up to 5mg daily. I take 2mg a day now, but have taken 5mg a day when I was on a biologic.
Interesting!! I was prescribed antibiotics to treat my hair loss. Unbelievable
So why do the hairs in your ears and nose grow a centimeter a day?
🤔
Life's cruel joke
And many bald blokes successfully grow long thick beards too?
Lol😂
I can not take any type of NSAIDs because I lose hair in clumps. Thank you for sharing such important information.
So thankful for this video. Youre the best ever. What about putting trentanoin cream directly on your face as a part of your skin care routine?
Is the hair loss reversible if one were to stop taking a medication that’s causing it?
Blood thinners are on the list. Best alternative to getting off of them, please? Talking to a doctor who is not into natural alternatives will not help and finding a good alternative doc is almost impossible where we live. Thanks
Praises The Lord, l wear wig.Thank God Grace and Mercy 4 the wigs.
Thanks Dr.Berry love your information, but really miss you being my primary Dr.
Thank you 🙏 I really needed this!
I know I’m going to get laughs from this question but how do you feel about Mane ‘n Tail shampoo to thicken hair? I have heard for years that some use it. I myself have NEVER tried it and almost feel afraid to!!!!!! It claims to NOT strip the natural oils
I've used it and use it on my dogs too.
So what do you think about the shampoo and does it help thicken your hair?
Hi Doc thanks very much for this info, will go see my Doc to see if we can change meds. Much appreciated
Eggs will grow hair, but sugar will make it fall out!
really? So hard boiled eggs is a good deal but then too much sugar consumption will make it fall out? crazy
Well done!!
I lost have of my hair because of isotretinoin. The hair still hasn’t stop falling.
I can't Thank You enough for posting this 💖

@@jujubunnybea juju, my leg cramps were very severe and to have it end by just guzzling a 32 ounce bottle of water three times a day with the trace mineral drops 40,000volts in it was amazing . Does diltiazem cause hair loss?
Beta blocker and bendrofluazide also fluconazole
Go for it! Good luck!
I also have this condition. Can keto help?
Thanks for the info, I’m on several of these. No wonder I feel like I don’t have very much hair. But it’s a catch 22. You have to take medicine to live. I need to check your description. I don’t tank you mention steroids but I’m not sure.
What can i do to stop my hair lose from meds that you said?
Have never see a herbal doctor in Africa like DR RORPOPOR HERBAL on RUclips who cured my weight loss and hair loss totally with his herbal medication ❣️God bless you DR RORPOPOR HERBAL ....... 🌿🌿
Letrozole causes hair loss...as well as loss in bone density. I would like to hear your thoughts on what could help that. After breast cancer, my Dr. put me on a daily regimend for 10 years - I have 2 more to go.
Thanks for this very informative video. How can I save my hair while taking Eliquis for almost 2 months now? Thanks so much!
Thank you for all the hard work u do for people 😍 Highly preciated ❤️❤️
I take quite a few medications on your list.
Yes please a follow up video for what is good. I heard Vitamin D is good what do you think????
It should be great! Also K2, collagen, and maybe a high-quality b complex.
I love your videos. I am on Keto since July and noticed I have a lot of hair loss since about a month in. I eat really good and also take collogen 5. I am bot on one medication, so I assume it is a deficiacy. What could be causing my hair loss????
Hi Tiffany, it's very commonly a biotin deficiency but since you're on keto, I assume you're eating some eggs and organ meats so this is probably not a problem for you. I'd look for a high-quality b complex supplement or nutritional yeast, let me know if it helps.
Zinc
Hi thank you for your help, im experiencing hair loss, i will speak to my doctor about this problem at next visit, currently taking simvastrin, metphormin, losortan, ozempic. Hope there's a treatment to help grow it bck, also keep hair braided for yrs, could also be a problem as well. Thanks
i heard ketoconazal was an anti hair loss substance as well as an anti fungal, can you do a video on why it does the opposite?
Hey Ken I’m not sure if you’re going to see this but is oral ketoconazole different from the topical? I see often that nizoral or any shampoos containing ketoconazole can actually block dht in the scalp, causing less shedding and even regrowth. Opinion?
the important questions is: if I stop a medication, will hair re-grow?
Depends on how long you've been taking it but I hope so :)
I had a lot of hair loss when I first started Keto. Too, I have Hashimoto’s & Hypothyroidism. I am constantly fighting hair loss. Is there anything that works?
Dr. Berg's Hair formula works. Female 57.

Heat Capp I gave up gluten 2 years ago. I eat 3 Brazil nuts everyday.😢
TheDriftwoodlover Did they suggest what to do about it?
Ozempic caused a ton of hair loss for me. Please look into this.
I’ve always had very thick hair and hair loss was minimal. Not on any meds that would make my hair fall out but 7 months into Keto and hair is every where. Really very scary and now I’m stressed about it maybe not stopping. See the vicious circle? 🙁
Great video! I’ll pass this on.
My hair is so bad! Falls by the hand fulls.
Ana Nettles Maybe stress? Looks like you have a lot...
Ana Nettles me too! It is on and in everything I own! I see the thinning!
😢 wow...look into your meds..definitely!
Ana Nettles -- My dr. declared that I have alopoecia ariata, which is hair loss in certain areas (in my case). I feel for ya'. Not fun.
Dr. Berry is there any thing that would help with ringing in the ears?
Well darn. I have taken quite a few for migraines. Only thing that has helped the migraines is high fat diet. I bet it eventually thickens my hair too!! Thank you Dr. Berry.
Rebecca Dunn wow that’s fascinating. Are you doing a keto diet? It was started to help reduce epilepsy symptoms. Migraines are so hard to treat. My exhusband had them. Days at a time.
@@BexnRN I started off keto and quickly moved to carnivore. I have had severe migraines for 40 years. My dad and grandfather had them also. Them being manageable has been miraculous. No more trips to the emergency room and demerol!!!

OMG...I take the bio identical hormone replacement therapy and have been experiencing hair loss! I have been taking it for my bones because I have osteoporosis! Can you please suggest the best course of action? So you think the bio identical hrt is ok?
What about too much testosterone in my system. I am in menopause now. My hair overall thinned out. Not falling out

V informative video... Thnx
I know there could be others factors at play, but pain seems the most obvious reason, and if it is I suppose I'll just have to live with the extra pounds lol. Thank you for all that you do... I recommend your vids to everyone!
Check for hidden parasitic inflammatory infections. 3D cone scan, gi map, blood tests, stool test, gi effect test. Go to a naturopath who understands and has experience on how to treat hidden infection. Regular doctors are clueless.
What about Trazodone
Hello, I wondered if you would be able to do a video on keto with no gallbladder and side effects, many thanks.
I am taking blood thinners and I feel it has caused weight gain and hair loss. Xarelto and later Pradaxa
What about tretinon cream
Is the hair loss permanent?
I think Ozempic should be added to the list going by my experience and other anecdotal opinions expressed in Ozempic groups. It is not a recognized side effect in literature.
I am experiencing bad hair loss and came here to see if my ozempic is causing it. I am so upset. Where can I find these Ozempic groups?
@@sambambina8063 Join facie group Ozempic/Wegovy Weight Loss Support and type hair loss in the Search function. Also on RUclips Dr Dan - Weight Loss via Habit Mastery just did a video on this but is saying it's from lack of protein and low calories. I've been on far lower cals and less protein than now without hair loss.
@@thw1304 thank you, appreciate it. I saw that video as well and agree with you, but just to be sure I'm uping my protein intake. It's really upsetting that with medication to fight one battle you end up causing another. Thanks for taking the time to respond and good luck on your journey
Dr. Why would my medication cause this to happen? What is going on in the body? Is there any danger continuing the meds?
OMG, I have been on Amitriptyline for 4 years and my hair falls out by the hand full. And Atorvastatin. Not a happy camper, why in the world don't the doctors tell you this stuff? Damn, Metoprolol (sp) for BP too, I am going to look like a bald eagle
On another subject, carbonated drinks. People say it's bad for your bones and depletes calcium in your body. But i started drinking topochico. Facts please?
Karen !
Yes, the phosphoric acid in soda is awful. It's not in the carbonation but is an ingredient in most sodas.
But Topochico is carbonated mineral water. What about that? Thanks.
Karen !
Phosphoric acid is not in Topochico or other carbonated waters.
my dentist pulled me off carbonated anything, I was experiencing rapid boneloss in my jaw and face . Huge loss in a 2 year period. I drank a ton of carbonated water . It was what I replaced soda with but it still afected me. This past year with little to no carbonation and my boneloss had stopped . I need a DEXA to make sure not something else, but it does affect the bones yes indeed.
I have had hair loss you named some of the meds I’m on or been on so it’s good to know thanks
How do I find a common-sense Doctor like you in my area-?
I'm thinking the same thing. Someone who'll be honest and actually help.
Million dollar question
Kisqali. Haven't had to shave my legs or pluck my eyebrows since starting it. Always look on the bright side. (Now that song is in my head).
Why is ketoconazole marketed as a hair loss prevention medication?
What's a good replacement for ibuprofen that doesnt cause hair loss?
Turmeric, curcumin, Omega 3, phellodendron Amurense.
I was about to say exactly the same lol
Ciprofloxacin antibiotics blinded me, I had muscle wasting and my hair fell out, including my eyebrows. I've been taking hyaluronic acid supplements and my hair and eyebrows grew back thicker.

I’ve always been curious about Metformin (glucophage?).
I couldn't find any evidence that metformin causes hair loss
Thank you, Dr. Ken. Perhaps, for me, it’s thyroid, hereditary, maybe Vit D deficiency. Gone on for so long, I don’t know if I care anymore though.
Side effects
It is also possible that metformin may cause hair loss indirectly. Taking metformin long-term may increase the risk of vitamin B-12 deficiency, which can sometimes cause hair loss. However, it is also possible that hair loss in people taking metformin is a result of a health condition rather than the medication.May 9, 2019
I took metformin for years. My hair didn't fall out, but became very brittle. Maybe due to b-12 deficiency.
@@funnyfarm9695 just saw this. Here’s what I wrote elsewhere, too:
Actually, for people who have taken Metformin and, perhaps, high doses, long term, Metformin causes hair loss for some, because it blocks absorption of B12.
