  • The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550 is the one vehicle both dictators and socialites can agree on. Is this first all-new G-Wagen in nearly 40 years worth the wait? Ryan takes it off-road to see how the three locking differentials work in the real world as well as checking out the 0-60 performance and is the adaptive cruise control with lane detection is any good.

      I bought a 2016 G63, and so far I’ve installed a 4” lift, changed the wheels to 18”, and I have 35” tires going on. I will be the only person (based on RUclips) to build and wheel a G63. Planning on a rubicon trail run this summer.

    When going down hill you don't use front locker or brakes,low range and diff locks are for that. Also you don't turn the wheels that much when front locker is engaged. ☮️

    Actually the GLE is more capable than you think. Opting for the off road package option and it will keep up with the G Wagon just FYI.

    I have bean using several version of the G from 240, 290 armer and so on, driven the 240 in rocks that is high, in sump with chain on. The car can go so many amazing places i will hate to walk. When all 4 coroner's are locked no computer can do better. In the end the driver is often the limitation of a car like that. When we put on the terrain chain and all corners locked the next level up are tracked things with armer and cannon

    Wrangler isn’t even in the same league. Suspension bits are tiny. Junk build quality. They get high centered. Lots of videos comparing the G, lame cruiser, wrangler etc.

  • @Tarkanbh

    On top of the hill you did a lock-to-lock turn of the wheels with the front diff lock engaged. Is there no solid link between the axes now within the diff ? If not what is then the mechanism to lock it? I have 1998 G 290GD 461 Professional series and with front diff locked (done by puling a lever) you only have limited steering capabilities i.e. 30 degrees of angle but not lock to lock otherwise you would snap the axle of.

    • @b.f.a5169
      @b.f.a5169 3 года назад +1

      Mercedes claim you can use all 3 diff lock on tarmac runing slalom up to 50kmh at least on the old G240 army models we got, not recomanded for everyday since hig tear and wear but not like it will break.

  • @joshquiroz
    @joshquiroz 5 лет назад +1

    Your rear diff wasn’t locked when you were going up the hill! If you only lock the center diff in a cross axle situation, you turn off all traction control and you are effectively one wheel drive. You would have easily went up without any diffs locked, the TC would have applied brakes to the wheels in the air. OR just lock the center and rear. Your rear wasn’t locked.

    • @dario4life

      Josh Quiroz it was locked. The closeup shot of him locking the front differential was probablby filmed in advance.

  • @jerrymyahzcat

    What’s with the gear selector where the wipers or indicator/headlight stalk should be?
    It’s Lane Detection not Lane Keeping. It’s the same as Lane Departure Warning. The steering wheel vibrates to let you know if you are leaving the lane - you could clearly see the vibration in the video but as hands weren’t on the wheel it couldn’t be felt.

    How any wagen with tires like this can take over anything, let's not kid ourselves here...it has 3 lockers and front back angles going for it. I would personally never spent that much for this boxy hinges exposed exterior interior aerodynamic nightmare, which is totally subjective therefor irrelevant. it's just alright...I wish Germans would make some mixed styling in between this and Tuareg with air suspension and some good choice all terrains with less rim and more tire, diesel option and proven dependable components
