Get to know the wireless tech that lets you duplicate your Android device's screen on your TV so you can watch HD movies, play music, or supersize your favorite apps.
For those who want to connect Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter to a Vizio Smart TV, do the following. This is for those who who do not have a built in Miracast in your Vizio TV. It is my understanding that Vizio is building it into the newer models of their Smart TV.
1. Plug MS Wireless Display Adapter into a HDMI Port and connect the USB portion to any USB Outlet on your Vizio TV. Remember the Number of the HDMI port in which you put this device.
2. Using the Vizio Controller, click on Menu.
3. When Menu opens, click on Settings.
4. When Settings open, use your right and left controls on your wireless Vizio controller to set to the HDMI port in which you put the HDMI portion of MS Wireless Display Adapter into your Vizio TV. For instance, if you placed it in the No. 2 slot of your HDMI port on your TV, use the the Vizio controller to set it to No. 2 HDMI port. If the MS Wireless Display does not appear in the port that you set the set using your Vizio controller, change the MS Wireless Display Adapter to a different HDMI port, and follow directions above.
Hope this helps.
Agreed that the ad-hoc tech is one of Miracast's killer features -- no relying on a third-party connection. Good call.
If you are a tasker user, you can set up a profile to change the screen timeout period to an hour or more if you want, then switch it back to 1 minute when you're not miracasting. Just a thought, it works for me on my device!
Thanks for the video I mirrored my phone to my Roku tonight with just one Roku cast app
I just found out that it will work with Intel WiDi. Wow! Laptop and my android tablet both on my TV, by just buying one device. Winning!
It's nice to see her do more than Apple related products.
I just upgraded from a Motorola RAZR phone message, which has a micro HDMI port, to a Moto X that doesn't. It does have miracast functionality though so It's nice to know that I still have a wireless alternative to stream to my TV. Pity it's going to cost me extra to make it work.
One big difference between android's miracast and apple's appletv is the wifi direct connect. As far as I know, you may have a hard time taking your appletv to a hotel and set it up to be able to watch the content you want instead of the hotel channels. Miracast however just requires a direct link with the device and receiver, no wlan network required. So to all apple commenters, it's similar, but not the same, so quit the 'DUH, apple is so much smarter and cooler' comments, you sound silly.
She said that using Miracast isn't ideal for watching movies because the device keeps locking itself, I'm not sure what movie player she's using, but I watch movies all the time with my ptv3000 all the time with no issues. I use MXplayer on hardware decoder+ mode which blacks the screen (doesn't put the device to sleep) so it saves on battery. I've tried several miracast dongles and the netgear one works the best for me with my note 2 AFTER the netgear firmware upgrade. Highly recommended!
does this have a limited list of supported devices? like Samsung and google devices only? or any android device with wifi?
Hey Sharon, love ur videos and your tips are always very helpful. A friend of mine has a broken home button, so I shower her the video of yours, but it didnt't work. Still though it could have a chance haha. Later and keep up ur good vids. Greetz from the Netherlands
Limited? How so? If comparing to Chromecast, Miracast does way more. Basically, anything your device sees, your TV sees. Miracast can also play DRM-protected content, unlike Chromecast.
What is the name of this small kit you use to connect your TV????
Sharon: I agree that there are some cool features, but I don't like the fact that one my device goes to sleep, so does my content on the TV.
While Chromecast can't play back DRM-protected content, I still like the fact that my device simply acts as a control to queue up content (including what's on my screen if I wanted).
I am thinking of buying a miracast dongle but I don't have a smart TV. Will it work properly?
Yes, if your TV did support Miracast, you wouldn't need the dongle. As long as the TV supports HDMI input and you have a USB to power it, you'll be fine.
2013 Samsung SmartTV's come with built in screen mirroring. But if you have an older one (2012) you'll need to use NetGear Push2TV
You are running mirrorcast on your android and connecting to TV through your Apple TV via Wifi ?
@callmemark they say 4.2 and above, but my note 2 is on 4.1.2 (like most everyone else's) and it works fine. Just use the 'allshare cast' feature. Also, you can use miracast while on your home wifi network, although I find the up/download speeds to be better if the wifi radio just focuses on the miracast, but it does pretty good handling both networks (ad-hock for miracast and wlan via wifi) simultaneously.
I am elated! I teach older adults how to use mobile devices, and, so far have been successful only with iOS7 to my laptop and then out to a projector. Will this device work with a projector, and if so, what configuration to I need? Thank you
If the projector supports HDMI input, and you have USB to power it, you can buy a cheap dongle, and that should be pretty straight forward from there. Make sure the mobile device supports screen mirroring too.
is there anything similar but for cars? like a screen u mount in the car and connect the screen to the phone and start mirroring.
Is it slower on the TV then the video is really going and, can you cast the camera on it.?
My phone is a samsung Galaxy j7 star and in my settings I dont have an option of wireless display. But my tv has mira cast. Any advice on how to connect it?
This only works with androids ? If so is there anything like this for iOS devices ?
@leonxl cause htc one is based on android 4.1 not 4.2 coming out factory line
Sir I have TCL smart TV and it has Tcast to mirror with Android Samsung C7. How to mirror. Please tell me.I will be thankful to you.
which miracast app is best for lg oled tv?
Sharon there seems to be lag on the mirroring.....the tv looks 0.5 second slower than the device itself.....quite a hassle if your playing games.
I just want to know if this is compatible with my Samsung Galaxy S3. (Android 4.1.2) Or only only S4 loaded with (Android 4.2+)
Interesting. I'd never seen Miracast demonstrated before. It's interesting, but seems very limited IMHO.
If you connect to the dongle's wifi, how will you stream from the internet?! Where will you get the connection from?
The dongle connects to your internet router.
And your tablet/phone connects to dongle.
I have one. Internet isnt great. Mirror screen is Laggy and distorted. Watching movies is impossible.
But.
Going on net through the EZ share app and sharing screen NOT mirror works awesome.
MIRROR is pointless.
I'm trying to connect my Android phone to my Panasonic plasma HDTV without any hook ups?.is there a way I can cast my phone to my TV?...
Definitely not, just a geek like the rest of us here, but I've just done a lot of research and testing with miracast, so I figure I'd share what I've learned so maybe someone else who is doing research can benifit from my experiences. I'm not sure that cnet's assumption that this is a beginners level thing is entirely accurate. To get miracast transmitters and receivers set up correctly,, you have to know a little bit about your devices and how to upgrade the firmware on receivers, etc.
No not yet. But I mostly use it for Netflix and you tube. But I can mirror my desktop with chrome cast
screen mirroring, not wireless display. Might not be available on all devices. It is however on the galaxy S4.
How are more options fragmentation? And chromecast doesn't mirror anything your device just serves as a remote to play content
Hey! So I notice the same lag on my devices, but yesterday I checked to see if there was a firmware upgrade, and there is, from 2.4.3 to 2.4.19, and the lag is cut in half!!!! Still just a tad too slow for most "timing sensitive" games, but the overall experience is noticeably improved!
So it can mirror your screen except when you watch your own movies?
This is different from chromecast.... this will mirror anything on your device to an HDTV and the chrome is only limited to googles browser..youtube etc. so mirroring a game from device to HDTV is not possible on chromecast?
For people in 2022 using Android OS disregard the video and dont download any 3rd party apps either!! Simply do this - At your home Android home screen use two fingers (not one finger) and swipe from top of screen to get to Android quick options screens. Look for the application called "Smart View" (it was on page 2 therefore I had to swipe left another screen to see it) then choose your TV name and select screen to fit your TV in Full screen.. EASY PEASY but took me 20min to figure it out.. No other garbage ad riddled apps needed. I have my phone and LG TV connected to same wifi to use this built-in app.
Does the Netgear work with Intel WiDi too?
Does the Wifi connection to your home network get disabled while using this?
yeah... but how can i use internet via wifi if i am connected to that device?
OK, got me confused on this one. Is Miracast an app in Goggle Play store? Also, wi-fi.org is as clear as mud .... More explanation necessary
What Android version supports this? I don't recall seeing the option on my Galaxy Note 2
callmemarc 4.2 and up
Can I mirror it on my PC screen?
what HDTV's does this donlge support? as long as the TV has an HDMI port?
If the TV has a HDMI port it will work no doubt
HMDI and you need USB to power it.
good thing I did not buy this....my chromescast supports screen mirroring now..and satisfied with it.
Very informative
It's actually android magic... it doesn't seem like it should be possible, but it is! (It may have to do with two different wifi frequencies, 2.4 and 5 ghz bands operating simultaneously)
will this work on a LG G3? i noticed that it does have a miracast option. Just wondering if anyone has an lg g3 and has done the mirroring with the netgear
Does it work with chromecast?
does it work for galaxy s6 ?
Not really necessary if you have android connected to a DLNA server and renderer. Using this technique, android can be turned off, but the streaming will still continue from the server.
I have a LG G3 phone and a Element ELEFW581 58" 1080p 60Hz LED HD TV, Does anyone know if the TV supports Miracast or not?
Ok, this works Beautifully on my Samsung devices with the built in "mirror Screen" option from the swipe down menu . . .but not at all on my other devices!I don't have the option in my "display" settings on my Nvidia Shield. I've tried 3rd party Apps . . . No dice . . . Anyone know the solution? Is it only possible on Samsung devices??
are you able to connect Moto G4 plus by Miracast
Thank you Sharon it helped me a lot. Looking forward to see more videos like this, thanks again ; ) .
My Android does NOT have that option at all.
Link to the cable used with male micro USB and Female USB and hdmi
I'm an artist and I watch artist Network TV with streams how to videos for acrylic oil mixed media painting and more I can watch them on my phone or laptop but I want to stream it to my TV can I do this? All cast? And by the way I have a Roku
Comcast and cast screen is the same. I use that all the time.even tho mirror cast is on my lg g2 it doesn't work.
Its basicly chromecast but bigger, more expensive and slightly better.
Is this available on iPhone?
LOL
Is there a way to display my android tv box onto my phone screen so I can control my tv with my phone?
There are apps for that :)
My android device have no wireless display...but cast screen help mee!
Chromecast now does mirroring and it's better then miracrap. It seems miracast was dropped already. Lol. Google can't figure out how they want to enable wireless mirroring. They would rather have you buy a bunch of different dongles that they will drop support for.
***** Mirroring on a bus? O.o
***** If you can play the content on the tablets display why are you mirroring it to another display. Are you lugging around a 50" TV? Lol.
It's not fragmentation. That's a nice way of saying "some consumers are easily confused." You my friend are not. You're not an apple lemming..
Hi everyone if u have a LG cinema 3D smart TV it's easy to mirror it all you got to do is this although note this only works for RUclips
1. First u have to click settings and go to networks then go to networks then click the first option and start a new connection use any WiFi connection
2. Next go to ur phone and connect to a WiFi neTwork it has to be the same one as the one you connected to ur TV
3. After That open youtube on ur phone and on the first page and click the button next to the search button or for other phones it will be like highlighted and then you can choose the video u wanna watch
HAPPY MIRRORING

OK so I have a next book 7 and an Emerson HD TV I got cast screen and it says no device eligible does anyone have that kind of TV and got it to work plz answer I know I probably sound stupid but whatever
how can i connect my android device if its not miracast compatible ?
You can use Android mini TV or MK809v :-)
Can i connect my Samsung galaxy s5 to my ps3?
Chromecast is definitely cheaper, but not nearly as robust. Read my full review on CNET How To -- I talk much more about the differences.
This is nice
Yes, i use netgear PTV3000 to display my laptop on the TV
you know so does chromecast lets cast you your phone screen to tv/pc
Chromecast does not cast your screen just chrome videos RUclips and Netflix. And it requires Wi-Fi
Can I use a Blu Ray player with miracast?
No

Sony BDP S5500 has "screen mirroring" ...though it hasn't worked4moi...
I guess it depends on BDP & possibly conbination with tablet/smartphone/tv...
I guess it depends on BDP(some type says "screen mirroring") & possibly combination with tablet/phone&tv...
Thank you! That would explain it.
Bull it doesn't work I got an anycast and it reads my home network but won't cast from my phone
the option is not available on my old gen nexus 7
Yeah, $60 for a device that ONLY does Miracast is kind of ridiculous. But what I didn't get to mention is that it's also compatible with WiDi computers, so it could be a worthy investment for the right person.
Oh yeah, and chromecast is NOT a replacement of miracast. If you want to play local content or don't have a local wifi network for the chromecast, you're out of luck. People who say otherwise really don't understand the difference between 'streaming content' and 'mirroring content'. Two completely different concepts if you know what you're talking about. If you think there is no difference between the two, you are one of those people that don't know what you're talking about.
Thanks alot!
this was uploaded on my birth day
So cool
dude apples is still busy trying to copy miracast and they are still developing airplay direct which is like miracast and they will sell it to you in a year or two for a lot more cash. In the mean time you can drool on what miracast can do WITHOUT NEEDING A WIFI CONNECTION LIKE AIRPLAY AND miracast works on the beach too without a wifi router unlike airplay which needs a router. See what you are issing by watching this video among the many miracast videos on my channel watch?v=JxSJ57Q3zak Cheers
Does anyone know if there is a way to mirror the phone screen to the TV but have the audio play from the phone?
LiftOrGTFO hxjddyrh he dbdhddd
Mark Jimenez Did you just have a stroke?
Well thanks that explains why the house has been hacked.
OOF
I'm trying to mirror my Samsung Note 3 display to a WDTV (It has Miracast) that I got hooked up to my Panasonic viera. My phone got no trouble detecting the WDTV, but when I'ts trying to connect I get a message saying "Failed to connect via Screen Mirroring". I'm getting quite frustrating with this. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?
Android 4.3 has a problem screen mirroring but they have made a patch get it at samsung.com

It works on mine running 4.1.2 so it's not just 4.2 or later.
There's no Wireless Display option on my HTC One.. Why+
Does not work with my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
IT IS SO SLOW.. MAYBE THE HDMI WAY OFFERS YOU MORE QICK RESPONSE ON THE TV SINCE YOU "PREESING" ON SOMETHING TO YOUR PHONE OR TABLET??
hey i got the mira screen but cant find my password
Apple TV copy?
this is from 2013. if you want to interested, look for a newer video/review.
Ok. Are you behind the curtain?
pretty cool
If your TV is not compatible, you're gonna need to buy a $60 attachment.
How do I do it though
