One word re your migraine - dehydration! I get them occasionally (used to be bad and often) then found that drinking a pint (or two) of plain water drives them away in a few minutes. If your pee is yellow then you are dehydrated. And being hydrated makes you feel happier too. But you will need a toilet ‘pit stop’ strategy 😂😂 Love the video. Great work !
Really enjoyed that video. I agree, the GR3 captures candid moments you'd be hard pushed to replicate with a larger camera. I'm seriously thinking about buying a GR3, again. Had one, sold it. Would often get through 3 batteries on a day's shooting too. Was holding out for a shot at the end of the bald guy with white vest and dog, walking towards you. With that light it'd been fire!
Fantastic mate, great Manchester urban odyssey! I started to get a lot of ocular migraines a while ago in both eyes at the same time, it ended up being my sun and sheep obsession, once I modified my behaviour they haven't returned. The photos are brilliant & love the titles too. Especially like 'Underworld'.
Thanks Will. And wow, so shooting the sun and backlit sheep, 🐑 strain on the eyes. Hmm 🤔 maybe I need to rest em a bit. Our bodies telling us something. 😍👍
great sequence of images there Mali. I love just popping my GR3x in the pocket but you are right, doesn't have eat the batteries but I do love the discreetness of it.
Another great Mali piece even though I absolutely detest cities and crowded places. Fells, Moors and Scottish islands are my happy places as you well know. Mali, your lanyard gave me an ocular migraine 😂😂 Take care my friend.
Another top video, will have to get to Manchester, haven’t been for a couple of years, iam using a 25mm 1.8 artisan lens on my Fuji xe2, great street combo, keep up the good work 📷
One of your best Mali I come on to rave about your Underworld shot and low and behold so have most of the other posters so you have a banger there. Well done
I did my 1st dedicated street photography outing today. I drove from Bolton to Wardley hall Park & Ride near Worsley. Then used my bus pass to get a free ride to Bridge St in Manchester. I used to work for a computer company based in central Manchester many moons ago and have not visited the city centre for several years. I was saddened to see the general decline of the place. Example: There is a Victorianesque shopping arcade of Deansgate that accesses st Anne's square, Barton Arcade. It's a beautiful Victorian building with cast iron balustrades on each of it's three floors under an arched glass roof. I used to service computers in an architect's firm on the 2nd floor. Back in those days, it was fully populated by prosperous retail and service industry companies. Now the upper floors look deserted and the ground floor is reduced to three or four cafes. No doubt a victim of the internet shopping revolution. I was looking forward to a super photographic experience shooting inside whilst it was raining outside. Sadly it was a disillusioning experience and I preferred to keep my memories of its heyday and so moved on to find new targets. I did manage to hone my prefocus skills. Leaning on a large litter bin container near a signpost in the centre of a pavement, I judged it to be the perfect distance for shooting passing pedestrians with my 50mm EFL 7artisans f/1.8 lens. So I focused on the signpost and watched as the foot traffic passed the post when I would press the shutter. It enabled me to look totally disinterested in what I was actually photographing so I was completely incognito.
I know exactly what you mean regarding the decline of city and town centres and agree with your sentiments. It's a sad state of affairs and what it has turned into now, in comparison to what it used to be like, has taken away so much of the potential from photographers to capture really great street-photographs .
Hey Mali, street photog here from Portugal. Nice looking pics from Manchester. I guess you touched on the reason why I am not a member of the GR club, and that's battery life. As far as the ocular migraines, I get them too from time to time. I've read it may have to do with your body feeling dehydrated.
Excellent stuff Mali, you done well Manchester can be a busy place! however you did mention one or two things that I thought was worth noting in that Landscape Photography is much easier than street Photography, I have to agree with you on that one, I have noticed that there are a lot of landscape snappers that just cant cope with people, I watch many on here who talk to tree's but don't acknowledge people who are near by perhaps its because tree's don't answer back! I liked your street pictures I think you done very well and you were wise to take a couple of bodyguards with you, I did see your Fighting Friday video some time back. It was interesting to see that you chose that particular camera too! Thank you so much for sharing you time with us while trying to do a job in Manchester....
Big thanks Des, I love all environments really and would like to keep on pushing my photography in many directions. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
Haha I don’t think so, I’m still here seeing as we did this in October 😁 big thanks James, I’ll take this all day, lovely day with you two, always smiles always creativity. The light collective rides again…
Floaters! I get them, looked it up, nothing serious unless it actually blocks your sight.. if I deduce correctly, bits detaching from the retina ( I think, don't quote me)
I’ve had floaters these are kaleidoscopic, starts small and gets bigger until it’s hard to see and then they go away. Thanks for having a look 👀 Drs said stress and anxiety, so I’m keeping an eye on it 👀
@@MaliDaviesPhotography I’d keep an eye on that..ooh awful pun! I’d love to have a few beers with you! Simulation and Underworld are crackers, and not just because of the aspect ratio.
@@MaliDaviesPhotography I get those kaleidoscope lights too Mali and while the show is very pretty it does play havoc with your sight (& they're a completely different thing from floaters which are there permanently) The kaleidoscopes used to develop into full blown migraines with me in the past but thankfully they no longer do - & I hope it stays that way! Great video again, but I would not have the nerve to do street photography!
Great video Mali. James Burns with you as well. Hopefully I’m off to Newcastle to do a bit of street photography Saturday I’m sure that Mr Burns bloke has a pile of bodies under his patio mind 😅
Yes I get those ocular migraines too, mostly in one eye but occasionally in both. I’ve found taking a couple of paracetamol helps them go away. I usually get them while reading. Drives me crazy. Apparently nothing to worry about..
I get the same problem with my vision mate followed by the .ist monumental headache. Unless I catch it straight off with the tablets I'm done for 48 hours! Mines caused by air pressure changes - not fun with all the storms over winter! Some belting images though - might have to get back there myself soon!
Sorry to hear this Leigh, mine seems to peak, with my vision getting worse and then I’m left with a weird feeling and foggy brain. Weird nausea, but still managed to sink 2 points 😬 it’s a bit scarey though. Thanks for watching bud 😍🙏
@@MaliDaviesPhotography I get a two day hangover, without the pints 😅 But sounds similar to me, very fuzzy and disoriented for a while after. Keep up the good work lad!
I get ocular migraines too. They're always triggered by certain weather conditions, in particular overcast slightly muggy days. They happen because I am dehydrated and/or have drunk stewed coffee on an empty stomach. They only last 20 mins or so, but they are annoying. PS, I used to own a GR III. But I had three GR's and my favourite is the GRD IV. The IV is a far better camera. Slower to write to SD, but slowing you down makes street photography more enjoyable. Battery lasts far longer too.
Huge sympathy re: the migraine, I'm 90% blind in one eye and I get ocular migraines in my other eye, it usually only last 30-40 minutes but I'm always terrified it will never go away 🤪
10 hours in Manchester, I warned you about carrying that little bag, you got arrested didn't you? It may indeed be ocular migraine, do you feel sick or been sick? Doctors for Mali and find out for sure. You and Mr Burns out with your Dalek cameras, some good shots, the one under the bridge was my favourite15.07.
Street photography ... mentally I'm struggling with it. Its just so difficult to come up with anything original. Everything seems to be a trope of a vast array of the same type of shot. Are we simply past its peak in an ever similar looking world ? Having said that I liked 'Underworld' and 'New York 73'. Migraines - as a sufferer pretty much all my adult life best advice I can give is keep hydrated (booze, tea and coffee don't count as hydration - sorry), try to regulate your temperature, going from warm to cold can set them off and vice versa; same also from dark to light, staring into a bright light/reflection is a classic trip switch, like computer screens. Quite a few can be seasonal due to the above. If one hits you go sit down, close your eyes, cover them if possible, drink water, have a nap, keep your body cool and always carry pain killers - put some in every bag you carry, wallet, camera bag etc. If they persist with no obvious environmental pattern that you can change go see a doctor, especially if you feel nauseous. There is stronger medication available.
@@MaliDaviesPhotography Next time you have one its worth noting the seasonal aspect particularly, if you know when/why you're getting them it irons out that sense of controlled panic you suffer. I also became aware of the age transition element to it. I went through a lot from teenage to adult and suffered a rash of them in my early 50's, just chemical/metabolism changes in the body which you can't control.
That tiny camera plus a cabled switch through to your pocket - is that legal? I'm not implying that you do this, but it seems intrusive to me. That's what happens on the streets, so it puts me off this genre.
Eh? I hold the camera out in front of me and I certainly don’t hide it and if chance I talk to quite a few people. Depending on the situation and moment. Where did you get a cable and switch in my pocket from? I think you’re on the wind up?
@hjones451 omg! Do they really, well that’s shocked me! Bloody hell. Sneaky buggers, for me the whole having your camera out and in view makes it, can develop dialogue or even just a no don’t take my picture which I always respect.
