Jeff, 'Walk Like Alice' is absolutely the best channel for street photography. The photos are superb; the video production is superb as well. I'm constantly scanning RUclips for good photography shows, and yours is the standard by which all others should use as a benchmark. To you and yours, happy holidays.
Love the work of you both. This is street photography at best. I love the way the photos put on stage people up-close, showing the emotions and moments. I love the B&W style and mood of your videos.
You always seem to get the perfect shot, lovely counterbalance & woman far left holding a striped bag is echoed by the central person's striped scarf. What were the odds of that? That diagonal line also hits the top of the corner building. Perfect!
I was so willing you to capture the girls under the coat. Of course I needn’t have worried! So many interesting shots. Having moved from near Oxford to within 30 miles of Manchester you have inspired me to explore there. Thanks Jeff
Like the images but can't agree that Manchester is friendlier than London. Manchester is seriously unfriendly, dirty, an ugly city and the two teams you mentioned gives yet another reason to never go there again.
Brings back memories of when my then girlfriend (now wife) worked in Manchester. I was in Cornwall working at the time, so I used to travel up there each weekend. I used to love the contrast between the city at the weekend, and the coast in the week. That journey though… Night street photography and night photography in general is probably my favourite time to shoot.
We live right on the coast and I agree with you, the contrast is fantastic. I could happily shoot in the city every day but I couldn't live there now. We left a city to live here and couldn't go back.
@@WalkLikeAlice I’m about 40 minutes from Bournemouth and usually get there a few times a week as I am shooting a winter project there. I’d love to right back on the coast though, I do miss that sound of the sea at night. Lucky you and I’m with you on moving to the coast!
Stumbled through the RUclips street photography algorithm before learning of Walk Like Alice. I am currently awaiting delivery of the Voigtlander NOKTON 21 1.4 ASPH as a new addition to my street kit and landed here after the thread for reviews was barren, less a landscape was in your frame. Instead of another spec sheet laden review- I got a less search specific, more eye opening viewpoint of what the 21mm focal length can do in the streets. Thanks for the fix. - 👍and 🔔
Honestly, I am not sure who we were using when this video was made. We are using Audiio and Melodie at the moment. We have used Epidemic and Soundstripe in the past.
I somehow stumbled upon this channel today and have watched several videos. These are my favorite kind of photography videos and I think you're channel will grow as the presentation and content is superb! Especially love that you're using the M9-P. Keep up the excellent work!
Love the videos and photographs. Very inspirational. I like to take pictures of people too, just an amateur, probably not such a good one either. So what do you do with all of your photographs are they just for youtube channel? Sorry if this seems such a naive question.
You guys dedicate a lot of time and energy on street photography. Just curious, is there a specific commercial “market” for your images or are they for future book projects, etc.? Thank you very much. Love watching your videos.
Brilliant work, loved your powerful images and the shooting style. Thanks for sharing. BTW, where did you position your camera? What’s it on a strap at the waist level?
Thank you. My camera isn’t positioned anywhere in particular. Sometimes it’s chest level. Sometimes at my eye. Sometimes at my side. Sometimes at my knee. The strap is often wrapped around my hand.
@@WalkLikeAlice Thanks for taking the time to reply. When you are so close to your subjects, they might notice you taking their photo. Do some of them object? What do you say to them? I live close to London and people generally don’t like their photos taken without their permission. However, I like your style where your subjects are unaware of being photographed.
@@nikonfan76 If you are in London, maybe take a look at spending a day with us next month? We will be going through all of this during the day. jeffascough.com/street-photography-workshops
Thanks for the video. Is the camera operational sound on the video the actual sound of your Leica M9-P? I ask because to me, it sounds more like a film camera with a film winder. I like to use my M6 with a 21mm f/1.4 Summilux for street photography.
Another great video mate, Manchester is my back yard and you captured the essence of the city perfectly, if you’re ever back in Manchester and fancy some company feel free to drop me a line.
Thanks for the most useful tips, wide angle and waist level photography. I have been practising your method in the past week, found a new joy, making useful of my vintage manual 24mm lens with lousy sharpness, but i think it is enjoyable with f11, eveything becomes sharp. Initially thought about selling it, but I changed my mind. Used BW setting on my Sony with +1 contrast, any further tips to give it result like your M Monochrome ? lol.. Btw, you shot pretty low (as the photo of 2 girls with jacket), did you pressed the button with your thumb ?
These are shot with the Leica M9-P and converted to b/w with my profiles in Lightroom. I'm not that tall!! But I do press the shutter with my thumb when shooting low down.
@@WalkLikeAlice Good to know, I'm looking to add a 21mm to go with my M7, debating on either going with an Elmarit or the Super Elmar. Do you find yourself using the extra stop of the Elmarit frequently? Thanks for the reply.
@@VentureOutside TBH, if I was purchasing another 21mm, I would go with the Super-Elmar. The difference in f-stop is irrelevant in the real world, and it's smaller and lighter. The Elmarit is quite a heavy lens. I use a handgrip on the camera because of the weight which isn't an advantage.
thank you for sharing your point of view ... I have been taking inspiration from your works for almost 15 years ... I take this opportunity for an opinion, never used an 18mm, do you think it is too much? congratulation again, J
Hi Jean-Claude. Thanks for your kind words. Regarding the 18mm, we haven’t used one but I personally think the 21mm is wide enough for general use. The 18mm might be used for a specific look. ~ Jeff
For this video it was f4 around 1/125th to 1/250th sec during the day. At night it was f2.8 at anywhere between 1/30 - 1/125th sec. I prefer to work at f5.6 and 1/500th sec but this is impossible at night.
All these time, I thought you were using a monochrome Leica. Just wondering what you think of the Leica monochrome? Would it be better? Or at least make it easier to edit? Thanks
Sarah uses an M Monochrom. I have the M9-P. The monochrom is better in low light, but when it comes to editing, I have more control over the b/w processing with the standard M9. Both are great cameras.
Lovely work. Jealous that both of you are into street photography. My question is how do you not get in each other’s way? If I walk around with my spouse, he’s consistently in my way 😅.
Another great video , I often go to Manchester for my street photography , and I've just picked up a 21mm lens for my Leica , your videos really helped in my decision to go that wide after shooting 35 of 28 for awhile now
