- Got a killer early style flathead intake that you really wanna run on your 8BA but don't know what to do with the filler tube and the blow by tube? Well, look no further, I'll show you how to modify the 8BA engine and install a PVC under the intake so you can use that early intake!
I love the Thickstun PM-7 hi rise intake myself, I run a similar Tattersfield intake on the Tom Seller's coupe and love the look! On this roadster we're working on we use a Mercury 8BA engine and I don't like the intake options for an 8BA so we grabbed the Thickstun hi rise and want to run it on this engine.
Here's the parts you'll need:
Microgard PCV 181
Dorman 42061 Grommet
2) 5/16" barbed hose fittings with 1/8" NPT
1) 90º barbed hose fitting with 1/8" NPT
1) T Fitting with 1/8" NPT Female on the ends and 1/8" male NPT
2' 5/16" rubber vacuum hose.
Your favorite early intake
59A style intake gasket

Hi, here in Ne England we only plugged one heat riser hole on street engines. Gave enough het for winters here but gave the "RAPPING" sound to the exhaust. Plugged both on our race engines though. Good video and substance. God bless the flat heads!!! We ran CANADIAN 59 A blocks as they were reported to have a higher nickel content. Never had one blow up but did loose a few AMERICAN ones. Sure would like to verify that s a fact.
Yea down here in Oklahoma we don't really need the heat riser. Thanks for watching!
Great idea!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. I might be able to use it someday.
Right on man! thanks for watching!!
Great video 👍

Nice job Chad, just wondering if you had to readjust your carburetors after the PCV was installed ?
Thank you! I haven't done anything with the carbs, they are fresh rebuilds and I just set them on the intake for "Shock & Awe" value lol! I'll probably have to tune them with resized jets to get them dialed in.
Could it be to hot inside the block for the rubber parts?
it'll only get to about 180º inside there, plug oil all over the rubber to lube it... shouldn't be an issue until it's an issue!
❤❤❤❤❤ 😮 lookin good Chad
Didn't you could run early generation intakes on last generation flatheads
Thanks Michael!
Where is the oil filler now?
In the fuel pump stand, same as any other early intake stock or aftermarket.
What make Intake is that ?
Thickstun PM-7 Almost the same as the early Tattersfield, Thickstun bought the molds after Tattersfield died in a racing accident. They were friends.

This is helpful. I have also found pennies in the heat riser ports. Now I know why. Someone told me the blockage helps get that rapraprap exhaust sound. Ever heard that story? Maybe we will see on your motor.
Haven't heard anything about the sound, but my buddy put some pennies in his and they left the chat in a few miles. He never found them.
I really enjoyed your video but you need to go back and edit out all of the wasted time.
Then it'd be a 3 minute video.
