First of all, I really want to thank you for putting this video up. 1 point of difference though, I think the firing pin should be secured with threadLocker. There is a tremendous amount of force on those threads, and they will loosen over time and potentially become damaged from the vibrations. Not using thread locker will risk the long-term integrity of the part.

Hi Dog. Nicely done. What I find very very good is to keep the stock barrel and buy chrome steel balls 12.7mm 8.3g. But you need to tune the magazines. The power is brill. And because the stock barrel is just right for the balls, great accuracy at 10-15 yards. If you like a certain ammo, tune the magazine chambers to that ammo. It makes a hell of a difference. And save £100. So "Heavy Metal" not different size "grippy plastic/silicon". Can send you an example.
@@bucks09 Hi mate. Just make a sandpaper cigar and lightly sandpaper the chambers so that the balls feed in from the front. Just a light press fit. Snugg not tight. Enjoy.

A slight sugestion. Here at Ramstein AFB we use Tetra Gun (not an endorsement, I just have some at hand) fluoropolyner grease and with your thump if you evenly coat the sliding surfaces of the barrel and action (not the trigger assembly) evenly and lightly not only will your TDR50 cycle like velvet but you may obtain an additional 0.5~1.0 joules and a few extra MPS average velocity due to the extra gas sealing. Don't worry about cold thickening as this grease has a working range of -73°C to 398°C (-100°F to 750°F). Any fluoropolymer of this type will do with the same temperature range and thickness and they also work great on pew-pew and real steel slides also. Use less thick lubricants on finer areas as these greases tend not to migrate into tight areas. With new guns if Glock copper factory grease is used first for about 500 rounds then the other with standard use any wear in the future will be very minimal. But beware, Glock Copper makes a horrible mess so use it very sparingly. Unless of course you want everything around you to be copper colored. We do this with both our pew-pew's and real steel's at Ramstein-Meisenbach AFB and rarely if ever have we had a seizure due to wear. Lack of lube is a different matter. And always remember! So actually if in your country both the 7.5 and the 11 versions are available is better u buy straight away the 11 version? Or the 11version stock will give like 7 joules power? Because the 7.5v gave like 3 jouls? Complicated 😞
Hi Ben, can you do a video where you compare the modified 11j against this modified 7.5j? Doesn't seem to be much, if any difference from this test. It would be interesting to see them compared apples for apples. Many thanks
What you said about 7 joule UK version getting more gains than 11 joule version ? That doesn’t make any sense to me ? I’m in France and I can get the 11 Joule version, I’m contemplating the cal 68 version or this 50 cal version ? Which should I go for? Can you explain why a 7 joule version would get more power? I’d like to tune to around 40 J
That was the common myth at the time of recording, apparently the chamber inside the 7.5 joule version was slightly larger. I too am in France and my first HDR.50 was an 11 joule version, just managed to get 75 joules (I have a license) out of it using HPA. My HDR.68 (16 joule version) was hitting about 27-30 joules out of the box. A lot depends on what you want, the 68 is a big gun.
Great video content- keep it up! Hey what exact ammo were you using both them if you don't mind. Ive got the same thing fully done... Love to hear the comparison.... Thanks brother!
Thank you for this test Mad dog. Much appreciated. Is there some way you could diesel the ammo such as add vaseline to diabolo type of ammo like devastators? Would be very interesting to se if you get any effect and if so, by how much.
It sucks that we can't get tuning barrels in Greece. But what are they other than an extra cm. of threads? A smoother bore? A snugger bore that saves on leakage?
@@Maddogairguns Thank you. Since that's the case, it shouldn't be hard to have one machined at any shop. Come to think of it, it'll probably be cheaper too, eliminating shipping costs.
Really useful video..of course be interesting to know the difference just the tuning barrel makes on its own in the 7,5 joule..if you get the time lol ..great vid!
Hello! Thanks for your amazing videos. I have a question that I cannot solve. I want to buy Umarex HDR 50 11 joules for home protection. But I want to make this revolver more powerful. I watched a lot of videos, but I didn’t fully understand which of the options for increasing power is the most optimal? A revolver is needed specifically for home defense, and not for training or entertainment. I beg you, tell me a real way to increase the power of HDR 50.
I would suggest a 38 Special revolver then? If you already live somewhere where these high powered air guns are legal, a real gun should not be a problem?
most places where airguns have no limit and only require you to be 18 to buy them have severe restrictions on real firearms, you may be able to buy them with a "sports" use permit, but a carry permit is difficult or impossible, carrying an airgun even would also for a defensive purpose be illegal in most places! and although you are allowed to defend yourself, doing so even in your home with a legally owned firearm you need to be extremely careful to not end up serving a long prison sentence for it, your really need to be facing certain death and be able to prove it! your word that someone came at you with a knife might not cut it, actual stab wounds might be required to convince a court of law! a non lethal option might be better if it is capable of actually stopping someone but either way it will be a gamble! of course different countries have slight variations... imo a fully automatic high round pr second hpa driven bb gun with a 1000 round plus magazine might also be better for stopping an intruder than a 6 shot paintball gun... regular 68 cal paintball guns on a field are around 13 joules, so even if you double that you just might make an intruder really angry with 6 shots. a steady continuous stream of a 1000 plus 0.177 steel bbs to the face i think would be a better deterrent! but if you absolutely want this revolver then a 13c hpa tank conversion using 12.7 mm steel ballbearing balls would probably give the best result... hpa can easily be tuned to much higher pressure than co2, but then might become lethal at some point if you hit someone in the right/wrong place. edit: there is also the hdr68, a 16 joule 68cal 5 shot version. but i assume they are the same gun as the 50cal 6 shot 11 joule with just a bigger bore and the same potential for tuning and power. and im not sure but i think the 50cal might "hurt" more as the projectile travels faster and impacts on a smaller area, assuming they can be tuned to the same joule...
@@ralphbooger4756 not allowed to defend your own family or self? that is insane, good ol'AR-15 in 50Beowolf and the bad guy can not testify against you
Will it not do the same job just drilling the hole in the export valve bigger. Also I would like to know can the gun as standard shoot ball bearings or must u modify something.
I'm sure in standard form the gun will fire whatever you can fit in it, the heavier the projectile the more power you will need to get it up to speed. As for drilling the export valve, I have also done that mod, there is a video of that with the results.
The problem I'm having when I tighten my barrel extension all the way even very lightly the magazine spins I have to losen the barrel extension or remove it you had this problem what can I do
if you pull on barrel and depress the spring the mag/cylinder will spin freely ,just make sure your spring keeps the proper tension , and tighten barrel sections , you might want to use thread teflon tape so it tightens sooner so barrel can rest on cylinder !!!
The HomeDefence-24 barrel is not rifled,so to me is not worth the $100. My First Strike FSC came stock with the smooth barrel @ 30 Feet shoots an 8" pattern. After I installed the Lapco rifled barrel @ 30 feet a 3" pattern or Bullseye. My 7.5 Joule TR50(Same s HDR50) with the 7.5 Joule version valve kit from HomeDefence-24 Now it shoots a rubber ball thru a tin can @ 30 feet..
I might just go for the 11j version. Yes, it is more expensive, but with my hands containing 5 thumbs each, I know I will screw it up. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea if you have the 7.5j version, and you do make the change look easy, but, going back to my hands of thumbs, easy or not, it will be a big challenge for me. Besides, increasing the joules by that much, and I'm only guessing here, it could change it from a non-lethal gun to a lethal gun. For those of us who don't want to kill an intruder and face court time, it might be best not to do the conversion. Just saying. Great video.
If you get the 11 joules version, you can just remove the valve block restriction for an extra 3-4joules. That is really easy, no need to mess with the springs in the trigger mechanism. Just split the case, take out the block and put i back together again.
ruclips.net/video/UYOBz4avQ14/видео.html This is about 13J+ Hdr 50,stopping power still insufficient. So you need this for home defend, you must use pepper ball.

Many thanks
I’m hearing now, that there might not be much difference between the two, I’ll try to sort out a comparison video.
@@Maddogairguns cheers Ben, that'd be great. It certainly seems that way from your videos so far.
Yeah I'm really interested as well the differences between the two. Modded and unmodified as well as light simple mods
Great video mate thanks👍
UK gun law is insane
Great video content- keep it up! Hey what exact ammo were you using both them if you don't mind. Ive got the same thing fully done... Love to hear the comparison.... Thanks brother!
Sorry I missed it where you said the ammo 😢😅😂
Great Video Sir.
Thank you for this test Mad dog. Much appreciated. Is there some way you could diesel the ammo such as add vaseline to diabolo type of ammo like devastators?
Would be very interesting to se if you get any effect and if so, by how much.
Not sure it will work, I plan to give it a go at some point.
Did you do any more upgrades on these ? So you’re saying buy the 7 jule one is stronger than the 11 jule even if they both been modified?
What would be the difference when upgrading the 11j version?
It sucks that we can't get tuning barrels in Greece. But what are they other than an extra cm. of threads? A smoother bore? A snugger bore that saves on leakage?
The tuning barrel is made of steel, so harder wearing. It is also a snug fit for some ammo, making as you say less leakage of the co2.
@@Maddogairguns Thank you. Since that's the case, it shouldn't be hard to have one machined at any shop. Come to think of it, it'll probably be cheaper too, eliminating shipping costs.
That thing is kicking ass
Really useful video..of course be interesting to know the difference just the tuning barrel makes on its own in the 7,5 joule..if you get the time lol ..great vid!
'Rune Rebel' on RUclips, doing grate videos like this 'mad dog' 😉

What's the fps conversion?
I was looking at the 11 Jules version would this kit work on that? Giving it even more power?
wow great tips. in this way is more power than a cal 22
Great vid bro

good man u know your stuff
Which direcetion do i put the restricter back in? is it in the handle? but what direction?
20*C get you more power.
Its a inside the house revolver.
23-25 joule..I guess.
@@penedrador I have a residence permit in this country, and I cannot buy a normal pistol yet.
most places where airguns have no limit and only require you to be 18 to buy them have severe restrictions on real firearms, you may be able to buy them with a "sports" use permit, but a carry permit is difficult or impossible, carrying an airgun even would also for a defensive purpose be illegal in most places!
and although you are allowed to defend yourself, doing so even in your home with a legally owned firearm you need to be extremely careful to not end up serving a long prison sentence for it, your really need to be facing certain death and be able to prove it! your word that someone came at you with a knife might not cut it, actual stab wounds might be required to convince a court of law!
a non lethal option might be better if it is capable of actually stopping someone but either way it will be a gamble!
of course different countries have slight variations...
imo a fully automatic high round pr second hpa driven bb gun with a 1000 round plus magazine might also be better for stopping an intruder than a 6 shot paintball gun... regular 68 cal paintball guns on a field are around 13 joules, so even if you double that you just might make an intruder really angry with 6 shots.
a steady continuous stream of a 1000 plus 0.177 steel bbs to the face i think would be a better deterrent!
but if you absolutely want this revolver then a 13c hpa tank conversion using 12.7 mm steel ballbearing balls would probably give the best result... hpa can easily be tuned to much higher pressure than co2, but then might become lethal at some point if you hit someone in the right/wrong place.
edit: there is also the hdr68, a 16 joule 68cal 5 shot version.
but i assume they are the same gun as the 50cal 6 shot 11 joule with just a bigger bore and the same potential for tuning and power.
and im not sure but i think the 50cal might "hurt" more as the projectile travels faster and impacts on a smaller area, assuming they can be tuned to the same joule...
@@ralphbooger4756 not allowed to defend your own family or self? that is insane, good ol'AR-15 in 50Beowolf and the bad guy can not testify against you
I need one of these
So why is the 7 Jule better to up grade than an 11 Jule...?....Great videos..
They say it is because the co2 chamber is larger on the 7.5joule version. But it might not make much difference.
@@Maddogairguns its true mate !!! :)
Good Video. You Did Some Good Upgrades. How Much Does it Cost?
Can't remember off hand, but there are links in the description for the parts I used.
@@Maddogairguns I Mean The Gun
Odd question...does a silencer exist for this?
Yes it does
It’s not as easy to get the thread lock off tho is it
Will it not do the same job just drilling the hole in the export valve bigger. Also I would like to know can the gun as standard shoot ball bearings or must u modify something.
I'm sure in standard form the gun will fire whatever you can fit in it, the heavier the projectile the more power you will need to get it up to speed. As for drilling the export valve, I have also done that mod, there is a video of that with the results.
great vid MDA
I think hdr 50 has 7.5 joule why your gun have only 4joule?
Where to get replacement springs or spring kit if lost springs?
Baffled by mine, the round “push” piece that goes up in the co2 chamber doesn’t stay in place and just falls out, looks like a loctite jobby
you need a o-ring on that piece
My 7.5 Joule TR50(Same s HDR50) with the 7.5 Joule version valve kit from HomeDefence-24
Now it shoots a rubber ball thru a tin can @ 30 feet..
Hi I would like to know where you have got Lapco rifled barrel. Thanks

thank you for clearfyinng if i had the 11 jl version do i need the cap
could you mod a brodax ,Too get more velocity sir.
Can you put an extender on an 11 joules to increase output?
Hi,even though 50J+ still difficult fatal,Do not worry.
ruclips.net/video/UYOBz4avQ14/видео.html
This is about 13J+ Hdr 50,stopping power still insufficient.
So you need this for home defend, you must use pepper ball.
@@Maddogairguns do you have a video on this?
Good video. Not sure why you were only getting just over 3joules. My 7.5j version is always around the 7 joules mark.
It was fairly cold, which might explain the low readings.
@@Maddogairguns aww OK, makes sense.

Is it normal for a new hdr50 20 joules, to have a little burnt smell where co2 is at after shooting it?
I started using Elite force silicone spray after the first 8 magazines
I've only shot about 100 rounds so far. I'm hoping it just needs to be broken in.
Appreciate any advice
I've never experienced a burning smell from mine, I use Sonax silicone spray and never had a problem.
I went on this home defense 24 looks like they only got upgraded for the 11j version when I have the 7.5j. Also why dose it only shoot like 4j on the first test if it says 7.5j by the manufacture.
Your never going to get what the manufacturer claim straight away. Here is the 7.5joule powerkit: en.homedefence-24.com/Collections/hdr-51/Products/powerkit-50-for-hdr50-export-valve-maximum-power-7-5j-16j?variant=32178585501814
