Hi, thank you for posting the video, I’m struggling with getting the screws out, there quite small and the screws can easily round off when I try to get them out, any thoughts on what screwdriver works well?
First of all, I really want to thank you for putting this video up. 1 point of difference though, I think the firing pin should be secured with threadLocker. There is a tremendous amount of force on those threads, and they will loosen over time and potentially become damaged from the vibrations. Not using thread locker will risk the long-term integrity of the part.

Hi Dog. Nicely done. What I find very very good is to keep the stock barrel and buy chrome steel balls 12.7mm 8.3g. But you need to tune the magazines. The power is brill. And because the stock barrel is just right for the balls, great accuracy at 10-15 yards. If you like a certain ammo, tune the magazine chambers to that ammo. It makes a hell of a difference. A slight sugestion. Here at Ramstein AFB we use Tetra Gun (not an endorsement, I just have some at hand) fluoropolyner grease and with your thump if you evenly coat the sliding surfaces of the barrel and action (not the trigger assembly) evenly and lightly not only will your TDR50 cycle like velvet but you may obtain an additional 0.5~1.0 joules and a few extra MPS average velocity due to the extra gas sealing. Don't worry about cold thickening as this grease has a working range of -73°C to 398°C (-100°F to 750°F). Any fluoropolymer of this type will do with the same temperature range and thickness and they also work great on pew-pew and real steel slides also. Use less thick lubricants on finer areas as these greases tend not to migrate into tight areas. With new guns if Glock copper factory grease is used first for about 500 rounds then the other with standard use any wear in the future will be very minimal. Hello! Thanks for your amazing videos. I have a question that I cannot solve. I want to buy Umarex HDR 50 11 joules for home protection. But I want to make this revolver more powerful. I watched a lot of videos, but I didn’t fully understand which of the options for increasing power is the most optimal? A revolver is needed specifically for home defense, and not for training or entertainment. I beg you, tell me a real way to increase the power of HDR 50.
I would suggest a 38 Special revolver then? If you already live somewhere where these high powered air guns are legal, a real gun should not be a problem?
most places where airguns have no limit and only require you to be 18 to buy them have severe restrictions on real firearms, you may be able to buy them with a "sports" use permit, but a carry permit is difficult or impossible, carrying an airgun even would also for a defensive purpose be illegal in most places! and although you are allowed to defend yourself, doing so even in your home with a legally owned firearm you need to be extremely careful to not end up serving a long prison sentence for it, your really need to be facing certain death and be able to prove it! your word that someone came at you with a knife might not cut it, actual stab wounds might be required to convince a court of law! a non lethal option might be better if it is capable of actually stopping someone but either way it will be a gamble! of course different countries have slight variations... imo a fully automatic high round pr second hpa driven bb gun with a 1000 round plus magazine might also be better for stopping an intruder than a 6 shot paintball gun... regular 68 cal paintball guns on a field are around 13 joules, so even if you double that you just might make an intruder really angry with 6 shots. a steady continuous stream of a 1000 plus 0.177 steel bbs to the face i think would be a better deterrent! but if you absolutely want this revolver then a 13c hpa tank conversion using 12.7 mm steel ballbearing balls would probably give the best result... hpa can easily be tuned to much higher pressure than co2, but then might become lethal at some point if you hit someone in the right/wrong place. edit: there is also the hdr68, a 16 joule 68cal 5 shot version. but i assume they are the same gun as the 50cal 6 shot 11 joule with just a bigger bore and the same potential for tuning and power. and im not sure but i think the 50cal might "hurt" more as the projectile travels faster and impacts on a smaller area, assuming they can be tuned to the same joule...

Hello... Congratulations for the well detailed videos... I wanted to ask you a question, to increase the power, is it sufficient to remove the reduction in the valve, or is it essential to assemble the kit they sell online?
@@Seabass1206 Thank you very much for the reply...so you don't even need the pin that goes into the three hole valve? But what diameter should the piece of the co2 can have? Can you please give me some clear measurements? Or a link where they show this?
@@williamtabare8376 i would recommend starting at 1mm diameter 1.5mm max, the pin really doesn’t do too much and quite honestly the valve extension not so much either. if you want max power you need to run hpa and then you can remove the co2 restrictor disk completely and have it wide open
So this is very interesting i bought a gen 1 and a gen2 hDr50 and TR50 both dont hae any type of valve up the co2 chamber? so do the upgrade kit just push up there?
The kit has a pin and a CO2 restrictor disc. If you don't have a restricted disc you need one. The Gen2 HDP50 is 17-20 J out of the box, no upgrade parts needed😊
With PCP I mean the Dutch meaning which is: pressurized air guns with either a co2 or oxygen bottle (not talking 12 or 88g here but more 15 kgs and more) or a pump to take it to the Maxxxxx....
Many thanks for this, I'm down grading from .357 mag to air comprime, I'm also in France I would like to buy off the shelf ready to go, up to 20j is legal here, can you suggest a source pls, thanks in advance, goog info vid.
Sorry, I don't know of anywhere in France that sells 20 joules off the shelf, but I have got all mine from here and tuned them myself: www.toro-distribution.com/
Does that mean the 7.5j version with its powerkit, is the better buy as it carries more power than the 11j version with its part removed in your other video?
I think that was a myth flying about at one time, that a modded 7.5joule version would put out more power than the 11 joule. I have modded both and they come out pretty much the same.
@@Maddogairgunsthanks bruh, I'll watch your mod of the 11 joule video. If you could point me in that direction that would be great. I guess im concerned that i wont be able to shoot with pepperballs if i remove the block in my 11 j version
There are a few videos where I mod the 11 joule version, as I didn't do all the mods at the same time, with this video I did all the mods in one video, only difference with the 7.5joule version, is that you have to insert a disc into the CO2 chamber, the rest is exactly the same.
I might just go for the 11j version. Yes, it is more expensive, but with my hands containing 5 thumbs each, I know I will screw it up. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea if you have the 7.5j version, and you do make the change look easy, but, going back to my hands of thumbs, easy or not, it will be a big challenge for me. Besides, increasing the joules by that much, and I'm only guessing here, it could change it from a non-lethal gun to a lethal gun. For those of us who don't want to kill an intruder and face court time, it might be best not to do the conversion. Just saying. Great video.
If you get the 11 joules version, you can just remove the valve block restriction for an extra 3-4joules. That is really easy, no need to mess with the springs in the trigger mechanism. Just split the case, take out the block and put i back together again.
ruclips.net/video/UYOBz4avQ14/видео.html This is about 13J+ Hdr 50,stopping power still insufficient. So you need this for home defend, you must use pepper ball.

@@Maddogairguns Thank you. Since that's the case, it shouldn't be hard to have one machined at any shop. Come to think of it, it'll probably be cheaper too, eliminating shipping costs.
Good Video. You Did Some Good Upgrades. How Much Does it Cost?
Can't remember off hand, but there are links in the description for the parts I used.
@@Maddogairguns I Mean The Gun
Great vid thank you
Really useful video..of course be interesting to know the difference just the tuning barrel makes on its own in the 7,5 joule..if you get the time lol ..great vid!
'Rune Rebel' on RUclips, doing grate videos like this 'mad dog' 😉
Check him out 😎
Great video content- keep it up! Hey what exact ammo were you using both them if you don't mind. Ive got the same thing fully done... Love to hear the comparison.... Thanks brother!
Sorry I missed it where you said the ammo 😢😅😂
Id love to have one😮😢
2 seconds in i hear the english accent...And guns, i subscribe, same as me, born and bread 43 yrs...
Secondo te riesco a togliere il blocco solo smontando la scocca e valvola per poi tirarlo fuori con delle pinze a becco??! grazie
What kit do I use for the gen 3 13 jelous Lazer model
Amazing content , how can i know what version i have ?
If it has an F stamped on the gun, usually inside a pentagon, then it's a 7.5 Joule version.
Try and keep everything in the frame as it makes it easier to follow what you are doing 🙂
@@penedrador I have a residence permit in this country, and I cannot buy a normal pistol yet.
most places where airguns have no limit and only require you to be 18 to buy them have severe restrictions on real firearms, you may be able to buy them with a "sports" use permit, but a carry permit is difficult or impossible, carrying an airgun even would also for a defensive purpose be illegal in most places!
and although you are allowed to defend yourself, doing so even in your home with a legally owned firearm you need to be extremely careful to not end up serving a long prison sentence for it, your really need to be facing certain death and be able to prove it! your word that someone came at you with a knife might not cut it, actual stab wounds might be required to convince a court of law!
a non lethal option might be better if it is capable of actually stopping someone but either way it will be a gamble!
of course different countries have slight variations...
imo a fully automatic high round pr second hpa driven bb gun with a 1000 round plus magazine might also be better for stopping an intruder than a 6 shot paintball gun... regular 68 cal paintball guns on a field are around 13 joules, so even if you double that you just might make an intruder really angry with 6 shots.
a steady continuous stream of a 1000 plus 0.177 steel bbs to the face i think would be a better deterrent!
but if you absolutely want this revolver then a 13c hpa tank conversion using 12.7 mm steel ballbearing balls would probably give the best result... hpa can easily be tuned to much higher pressure than co2, but then might become lethal at some point if you hit someone in the right/wrong place.
edit: there is also the hdr68, a 16 joule 68cal 5 shot version.
but i assume they are the same gun as the 50cal 6 shot 11 joule with just a bigger bore and the same potential for tuning and power.
and im not sure but i think the 50cal might "hurt" more as the projectile travels faster and impacts on a smaller area, assuming they can be tuned to the same joule...
@@ralphbooger4756 not allowed to defend your own family or self? that is insane, good ol'AR-15 in 50Beowolf and the bad guy can not testify against you
You need a CO2 restrictor disc and a valve block removal for power
Is your velocity in feet per second? If so it's only making 1.35 ft/lb which is well below the 6 ft/lb we're allowed in the UK.
If I have it set to read joules, it's metres per second.
😅
Thank you for this test Mad dog. Much appreciated. Is there some way you could diesel the ammo such as add vaseline to diabolo type of ammo like devastators?
Would be very interesting to se if you get any effect and if so, by how much.
Not sure it will work, I plan to give it a go at some point.
Would you be able to tell us the specific tools we need I had the HDR 50 turn up today and ordering power kit Friday but need the right tools
Basic hand tools, you can see what he's using in the video
The confusing thing is the part that goes up the co2 chamber so it just pushes in? on the 7.5 jouls version?
It has to be screwed in
Can the kit and barrel be used on the 68 cal also? If so is the process the same?
Yes, you can get the same kit for HDR68, and fitting it is exactly the same.
It’s not as easy to get the thread lock off tho is it
Hi Ben, can you do a video where you compare the modified 11j against this modified 7.5j?
Doesn't seem to be much, if any difference from this test. It would be interesting to see them compared apples for apples.
Many thanks
I’m hearing now, that there might not be much difference between the two, I’ll try to sort out a comparison video.
@@Maddogairguns cheers Ben, that'd be great. It certainly seems that way from your videos so far.
Yeah I'm really interested as well the differences between the two. Modded and unmodified as well as light simple mods
If you replace the same parts then they will shoot exactly the same
@TaylorG-n1u I did. And it does 😊
Would just fitting the tuning barrel alone make any difference to the power.
UK gun law is insane
Amico fratello inglese ciao io sn italiano e ti seguo da tempo ormai .. anch'io ho 2 HDR 50 umarex,. 1 da 11joule ed 1 da 7.5 joule e sono ottime armi da difesa nelle corte distanze. Would you do an upgrade if I sent you the pistol?
Sorry, I don't offer this service. Mainly due to me being in France, shipping and customs, that police local laws when it comes to guns.
@@Maddogairguns ok thanks. Waiting for a 13j to be in stock again in uk
@@Maddogairgunsthat's considered a firearm? Poor bastard. I was just in France for two weeks. I wouldn't want anything less than 9x19 for defense. Not a children's toy.
Hello... Congratulations for the well detailed videos... I wanted to ask you a question, to increase the power, is it sufficient to remove the reduction in the valve, or is it essential to assemble the kit they sell online?
you can drill out co2 restriction disk to 1mm then the power kit is pretty much useless
@@williamtabare8376 i forgot to mention removing the valve block but thats easy
@@Seabass1206 I have already removed the valve block but in this way I can only make 4 strokes at full power😢 mine is the 7.5 joule version
What would be the difference when upgrading the 11j version?
The 11 J version should already have a restricted disc
Odd question...does a silencer exist for this?
Yes it does
got mine, chuffed with it ???
Hiya is there a PCP conversion?
With PCP I mean the Dutch meaning which is: pressurized air guns with either a co2 or oxygen bottle (not talking 12 or 88g here but more 15 kgs and more) or a pump to take it to the Maxxxxx....
thank you for clearfyinng if i had the 11 jl version do i need the cap
Did you do any more upgrades on these ? So you’re saying buy the 7 jule one is stronger than the 11 jule even if they both been modified?
If you're going to have the same Parts in each then they will be equal
Is it possible (I'm assuming it is) to do only the tuning barrel change and still get a power increase without doing the power kit change?
If you want Power you need to remove the valve block and have the appropriate restrictor disc
Hiya Dog..great informative vid....why France mate?
Why France? The old dears moved here in 2003, and when I split with my ex I came out too.
@@Maddogairguns Cool...love France meself....stay safe Bud
so i working foot pounds as live in the states now. thats like 4 foot pounds of energy from a projectile the weight of a 22LR ?
Is this ideal for home defense?
If you can’t have anything else, then yes it might work in some scenarios.
Well it is called a home defense revolver so.........
Can you put an extender on an 11 joules to increase output?
Which direcetion do i put the restricter back in? is it in the handle? but what direction?
What are you going to do with that thing
Probably throw it at someone.
Why is the little gas upside down?
Because it just is
Good video. Not sure why you were only getting just over 3joules. My 7.5j version is always around the 7 joules mark.
It was fairly cold, which might explain the low readings.
@@Maddogairguns aww OK, makes sense.
Ben, did you replace the co2 for each test? Great video mate. Im uk based so mine standard but it's great fun.
Yes, I put fresh CO2 in each time.
I think hdr 50 has 7.5 joule why your gun have only 4joule?
I’m getting 18.7 j from the HDR with steel/rubber balls available online.
@@Maddogairguns Ok thanks, what part of France are you? you can see where Iam
There are a few videos where I mod the 11 joule version, as I didn't do all the mods at the same time, with this video I did all the mods in one video, only difference with the 7.5joule version, is that you have to insert a disc into the CO2 chamber, the rest is exactly the same.
could you mod a brodax ,Too get more velocity sir.
Hi,even though 50J+ still difficult fatal,Do not worry.
ruclips.net/video/UYOBz4avQ14/видео.html
This is about 13J+ Hdr 50,stopping power still insufficient.
So you need this for home defend, you must use pepper ball.
