Dude. This was so good. Thank you. Been hosting a regular kill team meet here in Bristol since octarius. The way the game fell into a sweat pit of playing into OP team after OP team really killed the joy. I am really excited for this edition. Having listened into one of our group teach line of sight to a new guy for the hundredth time the other day I found myself wishing this new edition would streamline this interaction for anyone else who will join us in the future.
Pre-ordered. Finally giving GW a real chance. Noticed 40k for the first time in -97 or -98, and instantly wanted to try. To expensive for a small kid. Only got a magasine with all the fractions, and read it until it fell apart. Read a review for the pc version in PC Gamer about the same time. Same story. Looked into 40k over the years but never go any. "Stumbled" over the rules for learning scenarios some years ago and built a lego version. Found out about kill team 2 months ago, and really like the you go I go game play. Finding out about hivestorm with solo (teach myself) and co-op (teach my kids), it felt like it was time to give it a proper go after ~25 years on the fence. 😅 Hoping to enjoy the game mechanics and yet another hobby I don't have enough time for.
Hope you have a great time with it! I play quite a few GW and non-GW games and Kill Team stands up well imo. The main issue with the last edition was the interminable rules writing. If they've sorted some of that then it's a massive plus.
Lovely review. Nice to hear the global impression talked about rather than some of the other channels’ more nuts and bolts reviews. Confession: I like toeing in… Enjoyed the triple hello anyway, thanks!
I have pre-ordered it, my sister will get the vespids and I get the aquilons and we play together. I'm a non-competetive kill team player and also use those models for One Page Rules and have even made extra rules and teams for Grimdark Future Firefight, so its closer to the idea of Kill Team (small specialist teams) but still easier to learn and quicker to play.
New to kill team, but got a hearthkyn salvagers box a cpl months ago. Started to really look into it as I was blown away with all of the options I got for my models in the box. Saw some vids from your channel and decided to pick up the octarius box set at my lgs. It was the last one. Got hivestorm on pre order, and I’m super excited to get into some games!!
Awesome looking minis, but without any type of pinning they become tricky to assemble...especially for new players. Also, there is the problem with the guards. They cannot be assembled as they look on the box, because there is a las-pistol missing
Just preorder and planning on selling the teams. New mechanics look pretty solid (although I still don’t understand the smoke’s radius) and I’m looking forward to single player and coop modes the most. EDIT: TIL you have another channel too, subscribed.
I started collecting Kill Team with the 2018 (?) when it was basically 40k with individual models instead of units. I tried hard to get into Octarius, and I kept buying in but I couldn't get into it, and that made it hard to get my friends to play. I'm hoping that the changes to KT 2024 will make it easier to figure out.
Got my hivestorm box today.... Waiting to see how bad this Hurricane is here in FL, might have a lot of free time if the power goes out.... and i dont die.
At 5:30am, in the USA, the box was still on hand at the FLGS website. Hmmm. Didn’t order it however. As a current player I’m just not sure I need this.
Preordered. I've played a ton of KT2018 with my cousin, but failed to get into the 2021 edition due to lack of time to learn a whole new ruleset. With this box, I'm giving Kill Team another chance. I hope it works out this time.
I'm an old salty dog for KT. I bought preordered the Octarius box online because I liked both teams and it was great ( I live in China). This time I don't like the teams and have plenty of terrain. So I've preordered a package of the core rules, hivestorm dossier and tacs ops cards for a good price (¥150 … NZ$35). Which in New Zealand will probably be stupendously expensive... NZ$150 + probably
Really glad to hear your opinion on the rules cleanup. The amount of playtime lost to cover / obscuring arguments and explanations is literally incalculable.
I joined Kill Team in May 2024 as I was looking for a fun skirmish game. My friend and I had a good time playing at the tail end, but we needed external resources to keep the rules straight. I was very excited for the new rules until GW announced the planned obsolescence of old kill teams. I've been playing wargames for 20 years. I don't mind new models coming out to replace old ones, but I look at purchases as investments. A new sculpt isn't a big deal if I can still use my old one. The time it takes to assemble and paint these minis means that I don't view them as disposable. A three year(?) cycle where models get rotated in and out doesn't work for me. This isn't a CCG where the product comes perfectly usable from the company; it requires investment from me and I don't want to invest on such a limited timeline.
@@cgordon13 all teams released will have rules in the game for two full editions. The concept of “classified” and how it’s applied in the broader independent tournament scene is still TBD. Using your terms though and competitive constraints, a team of 10 models being valid in a game for four years feels like a good return on my initial investment (££). I’m not a fast builder or painter, so it takes me approximately 20-30hrs to build and paint a squad of corsairs as an example. I’ve then mained them for a year, playing circa 25 tournament games (50hrs) as well as circa 50 casual games (100hrs). I guess it’s a subjective thing, but 170hrs+ for an initial £35 investment is entirely reasonable to me. If I’d played vet guard and only vet guard since release, that would’ve approx been 400hrs as I was more of an active player in the first two years of the edition, whilst it doesn’t include the value accrued from the terrain’s use throughout the period. Are you saying that’s not enough value? Cause I would advocate that one box of models is a greater return on hobby hours than some AAA video games
@@jinofthesheep No, that's not enough value. Video games are a bad comparison to mini games. Video games will eventually be finished. They don't have artificial cancellation dates from the outset when your game no longer works.
