This is a remake of the 1959 Sabre or Starburst iron which became known as the Personal model. The original was actually a development of the 1954 Precision irons having a slightly lower toe and other minor tweaks. I refer to it as the perfection of perfection! The originals are possibly the most influential iron ever made. You don't have to look too hard to see where Mizuno took their inspiration for TN87 and MP14 which, once in Tigers hands, became iconic. Tiger then had Nike and then Taylormade remake them as he moved on. The original Hogan Precisions and Starbursts are, in my opinion, more desirable than the '84's but the remake is certainly a fitting tribute to the best irons ever made.

These actually came out in 1982. The etching on the heel side of the back of the head is a serial number

Great irons, picked up a set of Personals the other day in mint condition with original leather grips. These are my favorite blades, Mizuno mp 14s are a close 2nd

Do you know where I could get replica leather grips? I want to retro-restore one of my sets.

TGIF!!! Oh my! I love that muscle back design. Every iron I've ever hit with that design was money. Ebay might just be in my very near future. Bro you're killing me with these old blades you keep showing. These are very high on my list. Thanks!

I have 2 sets of these that I thrifted for a grand total of $100 US. They're the only irons I play now, even though I'm basically an 18-20 handicap. I just feel more inspired with them, tend to feel less pressure on the course, and this results in better scores and greater general enjoyment when playing golf.

Sorry, I forgot to note that my sets are from the 1982 run, not the 1984 that you have here. Also, the first set was lacking a 7 iron, and that is why I bought the second set. Other than that, serial numbers are matching

I’m pretty sure it was Mizuno that most likely copied these not the other way around..their MP 29s are almost a perfect match because I own both sets.

I finally took my '84 Apex PC's to the range. HOLY CRAP! The short irons are brutally honest. They went nowhere. 😅 And I even up graded to a modern shaft. However, the long irons were easier to hit. I was launching those.

I have a near mint set (minus the 5 iron ☹️) of Apex 4 Hogans Personal from the early 80s. How much could I get on eBay in your opinion?

I bought a set of these brand new set No 0626, after seeing them on the Hogan stand at the Open but had to go through a PGA pro I have to say it wasn’t the best buy I have ever made as I had too change the leather wrap grips and re- shafting the Apex shaft was cost prohibitive as they were chromed and pinned so I sold them and now play the 1998 Apex muscle back on a blade 2-9 with DG- S300 which I think are a far superior iron arguably the best ever and I have a couple of nice sets of blades.

The 1984 etching you are seeing is not the year..these were actually a limited edition set they produced in perhaps 82 or 83. The 1984 you are seeing actually is number 1984 out of 2500 sets that were released. They are absolutely gorgeous and I own a new set myself..

Bro, my brother! 1984!!!!! Every day I would look to the skies, knowing that if the USSR launched that very second it would be 15 minutes (lol, not likely) for the Emergency system to tell you that you had 1/2hr to live.
That always in mind, the TV show Miami Vice and the ability to get almost pure stuff: COCAINE! 1984 wad about speed boats, chicks in "diaper" swim suits, Connelly water skies (Short line Gracite), 3-Lock Box by Billy Squire, The Tubes, Varney sun glasses. Around the World Blotter and double dome mescaline. Not sure where you spent 1984 but mine involved hackeysack at them beach in Grand School, MI.

I was just out of high school and never worried about a nuclear attack, it was beyond my control and was smart enough to know that Russia did not want total destruction either.
