Specific subclass build videos are precious if you present all the important details and can present it clearly. Those will reach the right audience in time. Other popular Paladin MC Option from Tabletop:
- Barbarian, Damage resistance + Reckless Attack is amazing for a Melee combatant.
- Bard, Extra Spellslot for smites, Bards can get "extra attack" depending on subclass, so it is possible for a Bard 10/9 or Paladin 2/3 for up to 5th Level Spellcasting.

On my first play through I am totally playing a half orc oath of vengeance paladin with a nobility background. In my head canon he was raised in a noble family with disdain directed at him from many in the nobility because of his Half orc heritage. He has seen first hand how the rich and powerful get away with anything and has sworn a oath of vengeance to give justice for the powerless. He often has a hard time controlling his rage aimed at uncaring and power hungry people that victimize others. That is what grounds my character and I will base my decisions on in game. Will it lead to becoming a oath breaker, saving the world or killing some of my companions… I will know very soon.
I'm planning to go with a dark urge oath of vengeance half orc and maybe oath breaker down the line

My favorite dnd char I ever played was a 3.5ed half red dragon Fghter 4, Sorc 6, Spell Sword the rest, with Arcane Strike. She was a bit of a melee glass canon because of the LA and all the d4 HD, but she hit like a mack truck and had several attacks thanks to a still high bab add in the +X to hit, +Xd4 to every attack (including AoO) and she was dealing the punishment with her Great Sword.
I have been thinking about recreating her in BG3 as a Dark Urge Vengeance Sorcidon.
Which does, to a degree fit her; as a big part of her adventuring motivation was that she was the product of rape and wanted to find (and murder) her father, and once, after the leaders of a city insulted her by putting a hit on her, she gathared her followera and sacked the city and ate a member of the city council as a warning to all.
I am also thinking of waiting for Larian to release a Conquest Paladin (or for modders to) because she was Chaotic Evil (being half red dragon) so that might work even better.
Not a hundred % sure about the party to go with her. She would never give up magical power to feed Gale. It would go against her personality to do so, Shadowheart and Wyll seem to good tobreally stay with someone as prone to her dark urges as her. And Lae'zell and Karlach seem to perform the same role as primary melee damage dealer as her. Astarion would probably like her power hungry nature though.
Super cool, always love reading about someone else’s characters and how they plan to recreate them in BG3 :)
So many choices! I am intrigued by the idea of playing an Oath of Vengeance Paladin with The Dark Urge Origin. I am also eager to see what changes Larian made with breaking your oath from EA.
Dark urge it seems to me a full chaotic evil , i suspect you would break the oath in no time
@@ilgiallo0 Except that the Oath of Vengeance Paladin is considered 'Evil' compared to the other Oath choices. Being tempted is part of the Dark Urge path, you don't always have to choose it too.
Nah Vengeance being evil is a misconception, it’s just a very “the end justifies the means” ideology. It can lean into ruthless and viewed as evil by some but in the end it’s more pragmatic. Only oathbreaker is usually evil and even he not always is :p
@@KainRaRPG so what will break your oath if you go vengeance? Not punishing the evil or the wicked? I’m very curious to see the changes (if any) for oath breaking with the full release.
@@craigotech probably letting „evil” go free, like sparing goblins (the one you can free from the grove comes to mind), negotiating and making pacts with forces that are considered bad like demons and undead. I admit though Larian can be iffy on what will break your oath sometimes, but I think Vengeance will be easier to upkeep than devotion for example.
That image of the knight in white armor with shield and spear looks super dope
unironically its also one of the best builds for a Vengeance Paladin as spears and other long weapons are super good with some feats :) spear specifically you can use both two-handed and one-handed with shield.

I’m half asleep but did you not mention the Paladin spell that gives us wings to move far and fear enemies? Or is that not in baldurs, that’s the whole reason I was going to go vengeance

I will play a vengeance paladin eventually. Probably as part of a multiclass. But not the first run. The first run will be a class with no roleplaying constraints.

I love D&D but my job can interfere and people can fall off due to life. This is how I get my D&D fix!
The multiclass section was especially good. One thing though. If you go the Warlock pact of the blade route, i think it would be better to do it with an Oath of Devotion Paladin and GWM because of the channel divinity wich add your cha mod to your attack roll for 1 minute, don't you think?
i'm really torn on doing lockadin or sorcadin. on one hand - smiting with lockadin sounds cool. but i have this idea of a veng pal + storm sorc that zips around into positions that trigger opportunity attacks

quicken spell costs 3 sorcery point in bg3, it's a bit nerfed cost wise because of the lifted restriction
Hmm I guess they upped it from tabletop, because there no limit on casting in BG3 as you said. Good catch!
My 1st playthrough will be as an Oath of Vengeance Paladin with 6 levels of Paladin, followed by at least 5 of The Fiend Warlock, taking Pack of the Blade, at which point I'll respec to get my Con to 16, instead of Str. I am hopeful that the Oath of Vengeance isn't subject to oathbreaking for killing Goblins, etc., but if it is I'll respec to an Oathbreker. Good review.
I suspect that will be very much in line :D and worst comes to worst you can pay a certain invidual to swear your Oath again (for a price) :)
I'll do almost the same, but paladin 7 and fiend Warlock 5, with a Zariel Tiefling noble. Calling this character "Ghostrider", cause of fiend+vengeance combinatio
It was one of my first characters in dnd and one of my favourite, so it's naturally I'll play it in bg3
@@DramonBuster My first playthrough as a Paladin started as Oath of Devotion, but, when she became an oath breaker in the Blighted Village, I restarted as a Dual Wielding Zariel Tiefling Oathbreaker. It was a surprisingly strong build, and fun to play.

What’s the logic behind the build? I understand pact of blade on the 3d lvl. Maybe go 4th lvl for that feat selection. But what 5-6 lvls are for? Aren’t you worried your already spell-slots starved pally gonna starve even more, considering that warlocks don’t get more than 2 spell-slots until lvl 11.
I'll probably be playing vengeance pally dipping into cleric (tempest or war) for first playthrough.
What does that give ?
Dipping 2 levels for channel divinity, leaning to war domain for the guided strike. If I lean tempest, I'd probably dip 6 for the thunderous strike. Also for flavor and because I'm tired of hexadin and sorcadin builds. I may try dipping bard though, as I haven't played that before and it seems like a fun option.

Super helpful guide. No love for the College of Swords Bard? Was thinking Pally 7 > Bard 5 but it may just be outperformed by Sorcadin.

Look, we all know that the most popular subclass is going to be an Oathbreaker Paladin Dark Urge who is really a good person and is going to try to resist the urges. And I'm going to laugh my arse off on the 5th when all the reddit posts start appearing of people complaining that the Dark Urge took over their characters and murdered one of their party members. It's going to be epic.
That would be cool. People should be expecting things like that though and not whine like little kids if it happens.
6/6 Paladin sorc - gonna make myself a one man army capable of tanking(blur, mirror image), cc(careful web😅), and dps, capable of smashing anything within 2 smites and finishing battle with quickened fireball.
And this time I don’t need to explain my DM how the heck my pally discovered his draconic lineage all of sudden 😅
What class would you suggest for it and what paladin subclass ? I kinda like devotion for sacred weapon; by the way, how many channel divity's does a paladin get ?
@@MosCraciun777well in dnd it's like 1 until 6, on 6th you get second charge and third one on 18th. So if you wanna multiclass Paladin, i'd say finish at 6. For extra attack, aura of courage,(mainly) and 2nd charge of divinity.
That said if you just wanna make sorc in heavy plate. 2 lvls are enough, for proficiencies, heavy plate, and mainly divine smite when someone gets close to you.
as for the class, choose between oath of devotion and vengeance. Sacred weapon provides flat bonus to attack. Vow of enmity though provides advantage(roll twice pick the best) which also allows you to crit more(since rolls for crit are also rolled twice when you have an advantage)
up to you mate, hard to go wrong here. Do some reading see what suits playstyle . Sacred sword provides flat bonus and you can use it against multiple enemies, while vow of enmity can only be used against one target
@@SoraJustAGuy I'm planning on going tactician form the start and paladin seems like a strong pick. I am thinking of a semi tank high damage dealer and originally I though of giving him fighter levels but I saw that all the skills after level 6 are shit; the only good ones are the magic aura on ancient and maybe the one on vengeance. From my Pathfinder experience, playing on unfair I know that attack rolls are king so that's why I thought of doing the devotion subclass. I'm thinking of sorc subclasses for more spell slots, have access to blur and mirror image to increase my tankyness and maybe some offensive spells if needed. I though of respecing later in max charisma with 3 levels of warlock and a 6 pala/3lock/3 fighter build. What do you think of the races, anything that stands out ?
@@MosCraciun777 I doubt that BG3 tactician is as difficult as pathfinder unfair. I would expect its more in line with hard.
@@MosCraciun777 well Zariel tiefling definitely stands out since you get 2 free smites that don’t waste spell slots. They don’t scale though. But that’s not a problem when 12th lvl is the max. Apart from that any race is fine. With the changes Larian introduced all races have become more or less equal in terms of combat potential.
Not sure about your build though 6/3/3 means you are getting 1 out of three feats selections throughout the game. Better stick to 2 classes if you want to multiclass.
Consdering that I'm gonna be the only melee of my roster (playing with friends) I'd like to go for the Paladin -> Fighter Multiclass. What levels do I choose fighter though?
Im new to the entire thing but I was thinking, how plausible it is to start as an Oath of Vengeance to then become Oathbreaker and go for some Necromancies from the Wizard?

Restitution seems like a pretty annoying tennet to have for an oath of Vengeance Paladin.
Am I gonna break my oath by choosing to pursue a foe instead of helping some random NPC?
I didn’t have any problems with keeping my oath and I’m currently 120 hours in. I’m picking pretty much all the good and vengeful options.

But I was honestly surprised to have broken my oath by accident in EA by attacking the Goblins first that lurked in the village and on the roofs.
Toril Goblins are pretty much always evil, always spiteful and so life contemptious, I just can't stand them. _"An enemy race"_ to say it in videogame terms. I believe my EA oath said I had to protect the weak, which I technically did. These Goblins would kill weaker, people later. So what I did was preventive meassures. 😁 This is how I saw it. But apparently some Deity disagreed. 😏
So yeah if there is no Oath that allows the slaying of the less humanoid and more monster-like races ( *_WHO EAT PEOPLE AFTER THEY KILLED THEM_* ) then I guess Oathbreaker it is. 😎
While the video is informative and creative in talking about Oath of Vengeance Paladin, the idea of it being the most popular subclass, sounds more like a hype-based title (meant to arbitrarily draw people into clicking the link to the vid), and is entirely subjective... Not a fan of the click-bait title, when the question could have been absent, while just sticking with the rest of the title would have been fine, since the video is nothing but a decent in-depth analysis... Something to think about for future vids...

When you place "The Most Popular Subclass?" in the first part of the title, there is a suggestion that perhaps the video will be discussing that very question, but all the video does is purely talk about the In-Depth Analysis, which was done well BTW... So that part of the title is more or less there to bait folks into checking the video out, to maybe even hint at something it doesn't even mention in the video, thereby adding some possible hype to what ends up being a typical guide video... I hope that makes sense... :) Also, one poll source does not necessarily make it fact... But thank you very much for the reference material...
@@ArcaneZippity I can see your point, but believe me that my intention wasn't to mislead people I just wanted to spark a conversation as to why it is so popular. After the Dark Urge announcement there was a sea of posts and polls on people wanting to make a Durge Paladin, which was one of the factors inspiring to make this video, so I had no malign intent. But I can see how you could've seen it that way and I changed the title a little bit.

You’re right, sorry. If only BG3 had early access that lets us test most of those abilities and if it was based on the most popular rpg system in the world that it takes 99% of source from, maybe then I could make a guide. But alas, now I must stop if you say so :(
