I always simplify it to 1m is 3ft. (It’s really 3.25ft.) it’s just easier to remember at all metrics. 60ft would be 20m. Slightly inaccurate but much easier to remember.

Thanks for the tip . In my opinion its always better to just list conversions such as these since people who dont live in USA dont keep the equations in head since they pretty much exclusively use metric system in everyday situations.
Finally SOMETHING that makes more sense for us than it does in metric :-p
Real quick nitpick: Extra Attack does *not* give you two actions. It lets you do two attacks when taking your singular attack action. This might seem pedantic, but it is actually a very important distinction. It's a mistake that I've seen a lot of newer players make before, and it made them think that they could take multiple actions such as using a cantrip twice, casting an action spell and attacking with an action, etc.
Edit: fixed wording and typo. I also wanted to add that I just had another player in the game I'm in make this exact mistake. We just leveled and he was trying to decide whether he should go to Monk 5 or Cleric 4, and his rationale for Monk 5 was, in his exact words, "getting that second action so he could cast a spell and still punch + bonus action punch/flurry". So he thought that he could cast a spell with an action and punch with his "second" attack, and when I tried to explain that it doesn't work that way he was very confused. So, just an irl example of why the wording used for it needs to be exact even if a decent amount of people knew what you meant.
Can you move between the two attacks?
@@TheBiggreenpig Yes you can! On pg. 190 in the PHB it states:
"Moving between Attacks
If you take an action that includes more than one weapon attack, you can break up your movement even further by moving between those attacks."
I don't see why Larian would change this, though we might not be able to split them right away in early access when we do get Extra Attack, but I would expect it on the full version.
@@attackins1470 I don’t own EA so I can’t test myself, but I saw there is a haste potion in the game that gives two actions. Can a spell caster cast two spells using that in BG3? Ik the rule in 5e but I’m curious if Larian took creative liberties with the rule in this game. I can’t think of another way to test without lvl 5 extra attack.
@@WookieJangoFoxtrot So, as far as I know, the potion in the game does give you two actions with none of the restrictions that Haste gives in 5e, where the extra action can only be used to take the Attack (one weapon attack only), Dash, Disengage, Hide, or Use an Object action. As far as I know, unless it has been fixed as I haven't played in a bit, this is still the case at the moment. I'm not sure if I want them to change it for the accuracy of the rules or to just keep it as is to keep it simple, as there is already enough confusion around getting multiple actions anyways.
Though I apologize if you already know this, but your words make me think you are thinking of it in the wrong way maybe? If you have two actions from another source other than Haste, like Action Surge, you *can* cast two leveled spells in the same round. The rule for multiple spells in a round *only* applies *if* you cast a bonus action spell, at which you then can only cast a cantrip for your action.
So if we have a Sorcerer 5/Fighter 2 who uses Action Surge, then they could cast two fireballs on the same turn as long as both were cast with their actions and not a bonus action. However, if that same PC was to use Quicken Spell to cast a Fireball as a bonus action *and* used Action Surge, then both of those actions could only be cantrips(or other actions like Dash, Disengage, etc. obviously) if they want to cast a spell. A lot of people get this rule wrong and are confused by the wording, but the easiest way to remember it is just:
If you cast a bonus action spell, whether something like Misty Step or thru using Quickened Spell, then the only spell you can cast as an action would be a cantrip. This rule has *nothing* to do with the number of spells, only which actions are used to cast them. So from here on out, remove the whole "2 spells" from your brain when in this scenario, lol.
Extra: You can also cast a reaction spell on your turn even if you cast a spell using your actions *UNLESS* you cast a bonus action spell. So if you're a Warlock who cast Misty Step(bonus action) on their turn and then cast Shocking Grasp(action) on an enemy, if that enemy was to use their reaction to hit you on your turn with something like Mage Slayer then you could *NOT* use your reaction to cast Hellish Rebuke, Shield, etc. as you can only cast cantrips while on your turn. If you instead had cast an action spell like Charm Person, no bonus action spell, and provoked the enemy's reaction just like above, then you *COULD* cast a reaction spell like Hellish Rebuke, Shield, etc. So again, it has to do with the actions used, not the number of spells cast.
Since you seem knowledgeable on this sort of thing...
Is it the case that there's always an optimal weapon for your current proficiencies? Like for example, a rogue almost never has a reason to use a dagger over a rapier even though it would make more sense from a flavor standpoint?
Dual hand crossbows carried me with a Ranger through the entire early access solo, including vs the Gith patrol. With the feat that gives damage bonus to offhand weapons this is really massive.

I'm learning the rules of 5e thanks to Baldur's Gate 3 because I mostly know D&D through video games and so far I really like the changes from 3.5. Having weapons with "finesse" imbued in them and not having to take a feat for it and no malus tied to a race, it's really great !
I dual wielded hand crossbows as Astarion last playthrough (you can find a few of them in the duergar town). He turned him into a murder machine.

Despite already knowing all of this info from playing 5e for years, I still sat through and watched the whole video. One thing worth noting however on hand crossbows! Is that usually in the tabletop, dual wielding hand crossbows doesn't go well (Unless your GM is benevolent) because of the way ammunition works and how Crossbow Expert is worded. Lemme just put on my Dungeon Masters hat.
Crossbows have both the LOADING property and the AMMUNITION quality. LOADING is described as follows:
Because of the time required to load this weapon, you can fire only one piece of ammunition from it when you use an action, bonus action, or reaction to fire it, regardless of the number of attacks you can normally make
So as you correctly pointed out, Crossbow Expert is required to ignore this. HOWEVER! Crossbows have the ammunition feature which is described as:
You can use a weapon that has the ammunition property to make a ranged attack only if you have ammunition to fire from the weapon. Each time you attack with the weapon, you expend one piece of ammunition. Drawing the ammunition from a quiver, case, or other container is part of the attack (you need a free hand to load a one-handed weapon). At the end of the battle, you can recover half your expended ammunition by taking a minute to search the battlefield.
The key words here are YOU NEED A FREE HAND TO LOAD THE AMMO! If you are dual wielding hand crossbows, you do not have a free hand, and thus cannot grab the ammo and thus cannot make more than 1 attack.
It's a weird thing to wrap your head around where you can ignore the loading quality, but you can't ignore the ammunition quality. However, all is not lost! Since the Crossbow Expert feat has this line in its text:
When you use the Attack action and attack with a one handed weapon, you can use a bonus action to attack with a hand crossbow you are holding.
So if you are wielding just a single hand crossbow, you can fire with your action as normal and then use your bonus action to make another attack with that same crossbow because you can ignore the loading feature and you have a free hand available to grab the ammo.
This is effectively the exact same as dual wielding in terms of damage output, and I know a lot of GMs will just allow a person to kinda fudge this and allow someone to dual wield hand crossbows if they have the feat because it's cool and doesn't really make a difference in terms of the numbers. So that might be why you don't see many people dual wielding hand crossbows.
Fellow Dungeon Masters please correct me if I got any of this wrong.
Explained very well! This is important. My GM allowed me to use two handcrossbows at the very beginning of the game, at the request of a bonus action. and to balance things out, the second-hand attack would have no extras beyond the d20, and damage with no extra dexterity or proficiency. But at level 4, I got the crossbow expert, and stop using a second handcrossbow, because i wanted a free hand when i need to use magic that requires a free hand, and be able to perform up to 3 attacks at level 5 (extra attack plus crossbow expert)
I forget to mention, the class is ranger
The combat mechanics in this game would be perfect for something a little more troop-based, with a few more units you get to 100% customize yourself.
it is a point I don't like with "bg3": the interest of bg1/bg2 was to manage a troop of 6 guys out of 20 and to ensure the group constitution would work. With 4 guys only, come on, it is not baldur s gate at all.
My favorite ranged weapon is the hand axe that does extra damage to burning targets. You will also pick up a few minor magical spears early which are also good for throwing. Throwing is much better if you are a strength build.

I already know my first 2 heroes when the full game will come out.
1. Dwarf (+2 STR +2 CON) Valor Bard roleplaying as a true Viking Skald with axe and shield in medium armor :)
2. Half-Orc Fighter Champion using 2H Axes for stacking all that crit chance and bonus damage :)

@@Akhahly These were old builds ideas before they changed races to not give stat bonuses.
Dwarf will work fine but there are not many 1h axes so it will be better with hammers.
Champion as a class is nice but Battle Master is superior in all the ways.

I've always wondered how a person can reload a pair of hand crossbows they are dual wielding.
Just bought a new gaming laptop almost solely to be sure I am ready for BG3's full launch. It's good to be back 😁🤙
It's good they finally made spears wieldable on one hand only since historically it's pretty common. But why does it have the same range as swords? The range advantage is one of the primary reasons why they were so popular in actual battles.

Crossbow expert does not require that you dualwield hand crossbow to gain the bonus action attack in DnD. It's the opposite. If you have both hand full, you cannot fill the ammuition for the next attack in the crossbow. Curious if it would work as it should in BG3

I wish we could weird a single longsword in one hand with the dueling fighting style and get the +2 to damage I'd prefer a flat +2 to a damage die that is two above the base.
You can just use a shield and get the +2 in addition to +2 AC
Did I get you right: when I have the Martial Weapon Proficiency due to my Fighter class and I want to use a Longsword, I don't need to pick an Elf class to get the Longsword Proficiency anymore. Correct?
And on the other hand, it does not stack; I don't get two bonuses on my attack roll. Correct?

This is great, however environmental damage in this game far exceeds anything you can do with weapons. Just throw a few explosive barrels of stuff at the enemy and light it up. Oh and do not forget to carry a candle so you can dip your weapon into the candle and make it a fire weapon. Just like mundane magic. By the way your magic candle is always burning even in your pack. So just take it out and you have fire.
environmental damage is overpowered in this game. Can wipe you out quick if your characters are too close together

Hi, just to be sure in all recent D&D version javelin is thrown with Strengh but it has short range. Is it the case in BG3? Javelin is the throwing weapongenerally used by Barbarian or Paladin in my classic tabletop D&D games.

I know this is mad late for me to ask on this vid, for it being a year old. But do Extra Attacks stack between multiclasses? Like level 5 monk and level 5 fighters get another extra attack as opposed to just having one extra from just a monk? (i never played tabletop, and BG3 is my first DnD game outside of the Dark Alliance games, which im not including because it's not turn based)

When duel wielding does one action count as both swings to do more damage, or does it just give you a bonus action of swinging off handed
you can set it to swing both with will use both your action and bonus in one swing. Or you can do each hand individually
@@WolfheartFPS but if I don't use the bonus action to swing both at the same time then basically it does nothing.
Basically it just let's you use a Bonus to get a hit that doesn't have modifiers, so a weaker hit instead of all the rest available on a Bonus. That doesn't seem worth it though so I feel like I've gotta be wrong

If I had a Cleric with a high dexterity, would I be better off using a bow, or sacred flame cantrip?
Depends on the enemy you are facing. Sacred flame causes the enemy to do a dexterity saving throw, and if they succeed they will not take any damage. So if you are facing a high dex enemy, sacred flame likely won’t be successful. Your bow / crossbow do an attack roll that goes up against the enemies AC number. If you aim your bow and notice there is a low % chance of it landing, you may consider using something else. Overall I would probably be using my ranged weapon more than sacred flame.
Go Bow because it responds more heavily on your rolls than your enemies
@@lockskelington314 Thanks, that's how I rolled in NWN, and BG2. Keep your Cleric in the back, and effective in combat.
on that note, bear in mind that sacred flame is always the same roll and isn't affected by things like elevation difference or whether you're threatened or not. so basically, whether you're better off using one or the other depends on the situation at hand.

Correct. Strength does help with carry weight and jump distance (and strength based ability checks) but you probably don’t need combat wise as a dex rouge.

At the moment the game is really easy. It would be even easier without the level cap, you would be at least at level 6 at the end of Grymforge.
Astarion Shadowheart and Laezel are the best team, when you play as sorcerer.
I hope there will be higher diffuculty levels introduced.
Higher difficulties will definitely be introduced
You can already see on the main menu of the game if you have a current play through it says classic difficulty which implies there will be other difficulties and the term classic is usually the middle difficulty, though i dont know when this was added so it could have been added after your comment.

Question. I have preordered this thing, an played some quite a while ago. Is it ANY use for me to play it now? Or should I wait till it is finished?
i mean depending on how long ago you preordered there are likely changes to several systems, but the only new content is an area called grymforge near the end of available content. there are probably classes like the druid that you didn't have access to before. your saves from early access will not carry over into the full game. there is supposed to be a new patch coming this month that will add/change many things, maybe keep an eye on that and check it out for the new patch?

I'm hopeful for a difficulty slider for 2.4
need hard mode for a challenge at this point beat it so many times and the difficulty mod does not seem to work.
I can't play it any more until its official release. I'm so sick of having to re-play the first part of the game over and over in early access and then having to start all over again when they come out with a new patch. Yeah, yeah, I know I signed up for that when I bought the early access game, so it's my own fault. Still, if you're reading this and haven't bought it yet, wait for its official release before you buy it. It's going to be a great game, but only after it's officially released and they don't have to do that to their players any more.
