I can agree to that, I brought out my old barebone BMX bike, found the front wheel to it, added the wrong size bearings and managed to fit everything. It rides well and everything else is good, but the front wheel wobbles slightly! 😅
Too much grease basically means you got it on the grips, pro tip, masking tape on your grips until you’re done working on it, keeps the greae off of them and keeps them from getting the top rubbed off
I work with manufacturing of roller bearings and ball bearings for SKF (the company that invented the spherical ball bearings and the leading innovator in the market) and i can confirm that is too much grease for that application the reason that is too much grease is because if you add such a large amount of grease the viscus friction will cause there to be increased instead of decreased friction overall this is because the ball-bearing needs to push that grease out of the way as it rotates doing so creates friction and therefore heat making it harder to pedal a good amount of grease is where it just manages to stop the bearing from free spining (except for with sealed bearing as they don't free spin in the first place and usually don't require Grease to be replaced in non commercial use) hope this info helps 🙂.
@@T77BMX yeah the learning curve is a lot steeper at first for skateboarding, but you guys get WAAAAY crazier when you’re at a (pro to semi- pro) level. The danger is higher for you BMX guys after that IMO. -EX 11 year skater 🛹
"more grease than you think" is always the right answer! Although technically you can overpack grease which results in more heat and friction. During my apprenticeship I remember being told to pack the bearing cage full then pack the housing 1/3 - 1/2 full of grease depending on what it is (with many exceptions) any excess grease will be taken home on your clothes. Now anti-seize, if your boss is paying, load up.
Sometimes the right answer can also be no grease. Im talking in general now. Some bearings shouldnt be greased. Now with this case you are probably right...
Yessss!!! aha they were Iconic frames and now its so coool to work on one all these years later. Massive fan of this bike because its all from the best Era!! 🔥🔥🔥
I worked for Cervello and grew up working with bmx, both different building and maintenance types 😂 but for a bottom bracket you can never have too much grease🎉
What product do you use to clean the cranks? I’ve seen you use it to bring other black bike parts back to life in other videos. I’d like to do it to my bike. Thanks!!
Just because there are some people going: There cant be too much grease. I just want to tell you that in general you should better look up if certain bearings should have oil, grease or nothing. It is kind of amazing on how many things you shouldnt put grease.
Na it needs more bro😂 i used to always pack it full then pack the bearings put en in then if theres room id pack more dont know if it needed that much "probs not" but as a kid/teen thats how i greased my cranks and always put anti seize on the pedal threads.
The best solution is to adjust the spoke tension to remove the buckle. When the Tyre is hitting the frame, Tighten the spoke that is on the other side where it is touching, and it will pull the rim into the centre. I hope this helps bro
I believe in situations like this you could not over grease as any excess will work it's way out generally and if there is too much you're unlikely to damage anything and simply pedalling will feel a bit tougher like walking through was it high water
back to the past. In 2002, my father had to save for 7 months. just to buy me a bicycle for 21 dollars in Indonesia. now I can buy a car just by saving 3 months. but can't afford all the memories of those days
Hey bro, Yes the Red high Temp stuff is very good, especially for cranks. However the Red stuff does Dry out quicker than traditional Grease. I use a few different ones in the shop! 👊👊
I have been riding bmx for 10 years and I never knew you where suppose to put grease between the sealed bearing me and my 5 buddies never did that once I didn’t know this was a thing honestly unless it’s a joke lol but still just blows my mind if that’s how it’s suppose to be I looked at my bike hung on the wall and am just amused now lol
Ahaaa wicked!! Thanks for the comment bro. SO, the sealed bearing doesn’t need grease inside the bearing - it will work perfectly fine as it is, however the grease is essential to stop the bearings from seizing into the frame - which is super common on these. If you look after your bike & don’t leave it too long outside, I’m sure you will be fine!! Thanks bro
Just you bro! Ain't nobody wanna take out a second mortgage for tools I can buy at harbor freight that have life time warranties and can go swap them out at any store that's within 5 miles of my house north or south
I can smell this video 😮 brings back so many memories of not knowing what the hell i was doing. Loved making a new Frankenstein every year.

There is such thing as too much grease when using a sealed bearing lol
It is theoreticly possible to "hydrolock" certain mechanisms when using too much grease, yet it will be difficukt to actually do that.
Grease companies- "nope that's a good amount, might even want to use more."

OG fly frame let’s goooo
It looks amazing
Greasing sealed bearings is exactly what I'd expect from a BMX bro 😂
fr like no way he actually greased bearings against the frame :(
The copper grease killed me off tbh 😂

Old fly bikes frame looks dope
Thanks dude! Yes this frame is so sick! 🔥🚀
Why is this satisfying
Thanks bro! 🔥🔥
Omg it’s beautiful
I plan to restore my bmx bike to its former glory, needs a little work since its rusty and the front wheel wobbles, in time though it'll ride! 🇺🇸 🤝 🇬🇧
Wanted one of those fly frames so bad back in the day. The red hazard lites are tough AF too

We don't even pack trailer bearings with 1/4 of that amount of grease. It does absolutely nothing having that much.
You’re right..! Next time, less grease for sure
The mid go ham it wont be an issue but the rear hub I swear ive destroyed a couple because WD-40
I still have my fly Tierra v4 TO THIS DAY
Yes, but the effort is appreciated.

The more greese the less room for water and dirt. Smart. Thats what i did on my bikes and cars back in the day
Never enough !!!

Never too much grease on a bottom bracket
I can say I never use grease and if I do it’s a very small amount I mean after all it’s a bmx bike. 😂
Grease me up captain 😂
Só esqueceu de colocar graxa 😂

Not enough grease. Chain especially needs more. If I can see the metal through the grease on the chain, there isn't enough.

Why grease self greasing covered 2rs beaeings?
Last time I checked sealed bearings don’t need grease.
Grease helps to prevent water going past the seals as it is hydrophobic
No need for grease when using sealed bearings my friend
Any bike I’ve ever built I’ve been able to pull down and work on without busting my knuckles or anything.

Too much grease can cause too much pressure and break or seep through the gaskets and seals.
It's fine it'll go up the tube and supply sufficient grease everytime, now that copper grease... That's waste 😂😂😂
Hahahaa! Thats a great point. Also, Im not hearing very good things about the copper grease! Scary
