I saw this in the cinema in 1986. the moment the door lifts and Ripley appears in the exo-suit, almost the entire cinema cheered🙂

Apparently even Paul Reiser’s own mother was happy when Burke was taken by the Alien.

The loud guys may want to know there was a deleted scene when Burke had a alien implanted in him and Ripley ran into him while looking for Newt.
Paul Reiser (Burke) was an American comedian of note in the 1980's-1990s. When interviewed about his role, he had said his mother had seen the film and she had cheered when Burke was killed, as many of us (myself included) did when it first came out. So I supposed he played the role well. 🤣
She actually did that at the premiere, where he took her as his guest. 😄
It takes a good actor to play a despicable villain well.
Your reaction at 40:34 "Don't tell me that animal knows how to use the lift" nicely ties in with what Hudson said earlier in the movie - "how could they cut the power man? They're animals!" - they're smarter than they appear :)
Also, funny that you recognized the actor from "The Shawshank Redemption" but failed to notice that Hicks was played by Michael Biehn, who starred as Kyle Reese in the Terminator movies!

It seems that you missed that in the first movie Ripley didn't say maroon him on the planet and leave but to quarantine him in the airlock and check him over.

At the end of credits there's the sound of a face-hugger coming out of an egg. If you watch the third movie, Alien3, then watch the Assembly Cut version. :)

Event Horizon is a great horror film. It stars Lawrence Fishburn and Sam Neil. Definitely worth a watch.

@@matsv201 Lmao, you're like the third person on a different video that has said something along the same lines.🤣 Someone else said they loved it but they won't watch it again, at least not by themselves. Event Horizon seems to be one of those horror movies that you either love it, or you hate it.🤣 The majority of people love it as a horror movie, then you have those other exceptions that are incredibly critical when it comes to movies. Like everything has to make perfect sense to them, and if it's not then they don't like it. But they forget that it's a horror movie and you can't really have every decision make sense, otherwise you have no movie. If everyone made the right decisions in horror films, the movie would end in 10 minutes 🤣. But for the most part, they made it work very well, except to those that are critical about every single little detail.

The first time I saw this I was around 12-13 years old and it was scary. Since then I watched it many times... now I love it as a great sci-fi action movie.

I watched it at about the same age and these are the only movie monsters I have nightmares about. Used to dream I was locked in my high school at night and they were chasing through the building.
Ditto, I think I was 7 when this came to video and my parents rented it. Ever since I've had borderline anxiety whenever I have to walk anywhere that has grated floors.

Absolutely correct. Stop here. Don't bother with the rest of the franchise. (they suck) I don't want to influence you unduly (they suck) but other movies in the franchise (they suck) are, in my opinion, "lackluster" (they suck). However, enjoy some Alien video games, many are highly rated, unlike the rest of the alien film franchise (which sucks).

It wasn't Ripley's ability to operate loaders that was revoked. It was her status as a Warrant Officer. She could then only get a job operating loaders and forklifts and stuff. So, that's how she can use the loader with no problems.
Aquaman being able to command fish is suddenly terrifying.
Aliens is the very rare sequel that's better than the first one. Bill Paxson/Hudson was absolutely hilarious and had so many great lines. Me and my friends still quote some of them to this day.... "I don't know if you keep up with current events, but we GOT OUR ASSES KICKED!"

There are some very deep occult layers to Cameron's work; Like Kubrick's Shining, this movie's storyline parallels American history: Starts with colonies, but who really arrived first? A slow-build-up. Then in comes the corporations. WWII is when the Marines are wiped-out under the Processing Plant: Sgt Apone is a Mason (even wears the ring in the movie) and "he's gone": The Masons were largely out of power in DC post-WWII. Finally into Vietnam, the war you can't win, corporate agenda behind everything, and transcendence: "El"ohim/goddess "Riply"(Van Winkle) who slept for many years, began the movie with ritual rebirth and ended so, coming full-circle. Horus-line to Horus-line. Like 2001, A Space Odyssey, as well. All the Hellywood occult tradition.
Here’s another reason why these things are considered the most deadly species is when a face huggers attach to a host the xenomorph will base its form off it such as humanoid. Any other creature, dangerous. Like in Mortal Kombat, a face hugger attached itself to Baraka which birthed a Xenomorph having sword arms. It was called a Tarkatan Xenomorph.
It's the skill and talent of James Cameron, Stan Winston and his effects crew, and others to make you believe six hero alien suits (and a few animatronic puppets) were a hive of thousands using the power of suggestion and the audience's imagination. That filmmaking skill is so rare these days.
No CGI was used... it was all practical and in-camera tricks... every trick in the book.
So amazing when you think about it. Now we see movies that are 98% CGI with a few actors in a green screen room. The amount of work that went into making these movies is fantastic and it really paid off.
Visual effects:
This movie was made before computer generated imagery (CGI) was available. The FX are entirely models, miniatures, matte paintings, practical effects, and matte compositing. The only computer involvement was in computer controlled camera movements.
The first film ever made with any CGI elements was James Cameron's 1989 "The Abyss", and those were stunning for the time. Cameron's "Terminator 2" in 1991 was the first use of significant CGI elements, the first realistic CGI faces, and the first use of morphing one object into another object, but he still used mostly models, miniatures, matte paintings and practical effects.
Ellen is not a psycho, but she is troubled. She is suffering from PTSD. After her experience in the first movie, with her crewmembers all dead, waking up to a different culture (57 years), her family dead all in the space of a few months or few weeks (as she has experienced time) she is a bit like a combat veteran coming home to find nothing left for her. 57 years is a different culture. I am American and I look at what an adult of 1965 faced and what they must learn if suddenly dropped into the present: Computers, modern electronics, cell phones, all our politics have changed and so on.

Another great reaction to a great movie. I love rewatching these movies with you as first tie watchers, makes it very fun. I would classify Alien as a Sci-Fi Horror, where Aliens is more Sci-Fi Action. These 2 movies are great, the sequels are not good.
Entertaining! First time ever I've seen a man screaming louder than a woman with a high pitch voice.
Favorite line: "Get away from her you BITCH!" I watch the whole movie just to hear Ripley say that to the queen.

there was a computer game back in the 90's called Doom 2, users could make their own levels called .wad files, there was one 32 level .wad file called Memento Mori that used a lot of audio clips from this movie. "it won't make any difference" "forget him he's gone" "LET'S ROCKKK" "We're in some real pretty shit now man" , always fun to rewatch this movie.

If you look up Alien Theory, he has a video that's called Newts tale and explains what happen before Ripley found Newt. It explains how she lived and what happened to everyone at the compound.
Action, story, characters were all great. Fyi Hicks was also Kyle Resse protecting Sarah Connor in Terminator
Yes, the beginning of the movie was slow moving. That's because you were viewing the "extended" cut with quite a bit of background story. The "theatrical" version moves much quicker without losing any of the drama. The "extended" version was for those who already loved the characters and just wanted more.

Also it is the same planet, with 60-70 colonist families on it now but since they had not yet discovered the same ship Ripleys crew had in the first movie there was no alien threat yet. Until Burke told them to scout at the coordinates Ripley had told them about in the hearing.

Hudson, the only one that got killed by a Terminator (in The Terminator), A Predator (in Predator 2) and an alien in this movie :)

Actually Lance Henriksen (Bishop) fits in the same category as Bill Paxton (Hudson). Although the Queen Alien didn't kill Bishop, he would have if he was human. And he was also killed by the Terminator (he was one of the cops) and by the Predator in AVP.
@@VBSuper Bill Paxton was only shoved by the Terminator. He might have been knocked out, but saying he died is quite a stretch. Lance was damaged by the Queen. There is no actor killed by all three villains.
All we get is 3 or 4 hits in the big end of movie battle and yet it's still better than most movie end battles where there's a bunch of CGI and building being destroyed and over the top noise, and a screen full of flashes and explosions...

There's a videogame called "Alien Isolation" that shows the story of her daughter searching for Ripley. It's an excellent game and in my opinion is a better "Alien" sequel than "Aliens"

If you two haven’t seen “The Thing”, consider reacting to that. It stars Curt Russell.
Man, I keep telling reactors, "Don't react to the Extended Editions, because they give away WAY too much information". In the theatrical Release, you wouldn't see families on the planet AT ALL, and you wouldn't've met Newt until WELL AFTER the marines (and Ripley) arrived, and that was a surprise. With the original version, you never know any of the family, and that gives you the sense that no one remained. With this version, when the marines are starting to pick up movement, you think it's an alien but with this version, you assume it might be a person ... because they state the terraformers that were there seem to be missing. It changes the entire dynamic of the movie. Later editions of ANY movie are NOT for 1st viewing, but to those who want to see more. They are usually full of fluff, damage the flow of the original movie, or introduce meaningless deleted scenes. In the case of deleted scenes, there's a reason why they were deleted.
The "rock", as you called it, was the original ship seen in the 1st movie ... the same one that the original cast found the alien eggs in (and the crewmember became infected/impregnated).
Anyway, I can't see a reason to continue watching this particular reaction as it's tainted, and it doesn't represent the same movie as the original ... kind of like a remake that failed to meet expectations. Hope you enjoy it.

Sadly there are more movies about aliens being bad, evil invaders. Maybe thats why I like star trek more. I mean not everyone is good there but its more about trying to have diplomacy and learning and exploration than about just fighting each other. And because not everyone would be peaceful they do have their species that are more hostile so you have a good mix instead of always just alien bad, human good.
As the Doctor (in "Doctor Who") said at one point, "There's a horror movie called Alien? That's really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you." ;)

ok i went through a lot of 'reactions', this one is the most honest reaction to this movie.
just one thing.
everybody is doing one thing wrong. there's always too much lighting. you are supposed to watch it in the dark! at least try to create some atmosphere, it will only help.

And honestly, don't watch any more, this is the greatest sci-fi action film ever, don't ruin it by watching any of the sequels.
Third film is pretty devastating. Sad ending for all involved. Suppose to have been the end of the story.

When you're in the mood for more high tension action you should watch Die Hard. It's not sci-fi but it's excellent.
ACTUALLY, THE company should have ONLY sent androids: they wouldn't balk about trying to bring some aliens back alive, and the aliens wouldn't want to lay eggs in them.
