Great detail of step by step! Your Star Diagnosis needs to connect to the Internet to work or you purchased the standalone version? I was debating if i need it because i already have Autel & other bi-directional scanner.
i have a later m272 on a 2011 e350 4matic, have rough idle where i feel vibrating in the cabin, any suggestions as to what it could be? I have changed the transmission fluid and filter, changed the MAF, changed sparks and changed a bad coil and still nothing
1. connect a scanner and check for codes. 2. most simple checks are make sure maf is seated properly. it is easy to not put it back into position properly and you will experience rough idle. 3. make sure all hoses and electrical connections are connected appropriately and not damaged. 4. worst offender is engine mounts which do not last long. my mounts engine did not move much but when i replaced them, the drivers side was split in half. i experienced terrible vibration. you won't know the mounts condition until you remove them.
I was looking at a 2006 c280 125k miles and drove it home and got cam shaft position sensor p0015 code, car drove completely normal in my opinion and sounds fine. I looked up the engine and it is one that has issues. Does it just have a bad sensor cuz you didn’t say anything about this code. WDBRF54H36A850841 is the vin.
I have googled this today: Is it all true? The M272 uses balance shaft. But! The Mercedes-Benz M273 V8 engine uses an idler sprocket, not a balance shaft. The M273 engine is inherently balanced, so it doesn't require a balance shaft. Instead, it has a timing chain idler sprocket, which is a simple "dead idler" bolted to the front of the engine. May it be easier to repair - idler sprocket vs balance shaft?
True: Yes, the M273 Mercedes engine, like the M272, is susceptible to a balance shaft sprocket problem. * M272: Experiences balance shaft sprocket wear and tear. * M273: Experiences idler gear sprocket wear and tear. The Issue: * Premature Wear: Both engines have issues with the balance shaft (M272) or idler gear (M273) sprockets wearing down prematurely. * Timing Chain Slack: This wear leads to excessive slack in the timing chain. * Camshaft Misalignment: The timing chain tensioner can compensate for some slack, but eventually, this leads to misalignment of the right-bank camshafts. * Engine Malfunction: This misalignment results in rough running, check engine lights, and potential engine damage. Symptoms: * Check Engine Light * Rough Idle * Reduced Engine Power * Misfires Resolution: * Repair: Requires engine removal and replacement of the worn sprocket(s), along with other recommended components per Mercedes Service Bulletin S-B-03.30/08i. * Costly Repair: This is a significant repair, often exceeding $3,000. Important Note: * This issue primarily affects earlier production models (generally 2004-2008). * Mercedes has addressed this issue with improved sprocket materials in later production models. Disclaimer: This information is for general knowledge and guidance only. Consult with a qualified Mercedes-Benz mechanic for accurate diagnosis and repair of your specific vehicle.
This can be done on an M273 without removing the engine (it's just a simple gear, for 272 you have to pull the engine out to replace and bolt the balancer shaft on both sides) , but you’ll need to lift it slightly as there’s almost no room to work especially when sealing the pan. A dealer would prolly charge around $3,000, but you could probably do it yourself for $500 or so (I did it a while back, but I don’t remember the exact cost, chain kit + guides + tensioner + different gaskets etc... ). Be warned-it’s extremely time-consuming. Don't even try without the WIS aside to check for the right procedures along the way, and get the chain + guides + tensioner replaced while you're at it. If you don't want to bother, pull the engine out it's still MUCH simpler...
My C300 is 2009, just to clarify balance wouldn’t be a problem in this model? @erick3786 i will do at some point but unfortunately it can not be anytime soon as we are moving to a new property, which gives me a bigger space.
Great videos! Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal prior to replacing the sensors?
No, not required disconnecting - terminal on a Mercedes-Benz has its own risks, even if it is less than 1 percent:)

@Brian_L_5168 Hi, Brian, thank you. It is a Chinese version and not connected. But still provides great info of the depth of the issue.
if your sensors are good but you are experiencing leaks from the sensors, you can buy the OEM seals/orings from the dealer for $5-9/each
