  • This video is about replacing the voltage regulator on my 2003 Mercedes E320 W211 chassis. This is a regular maintenance item and if you don't change timely you might start getting weird electrical errors in your MB.

Really appreciate this thorough tutorial, i was able to change my voltage regulator within an hour an half just by following the steps you did.
Meanwhile my first attempt was changing it from under the car and that took over 4 hours to do the first time around.
You were right, it is much easier to do it from inside / top of the car!

Thanks man. Doing this today. Really was hoping there was a way to do this without removing the alt completely

I tried doing in from underneath, but without a lift, the easiest way is from the front.

Thank for posting this geat video... my dashboard regularly display low battery voltage on my 05 E500 merc W211 engine while driving...then after a while it disappears.. recently I saw the SRS light pop up. I did some researched and found out that one of the cause is low battery voltage. ...because I saw this low voltage issue before on the dash board and the battery is relative new I suspect it is "voltage regulater" is the culprit. My car has 175K and I have never changed the voltage regulater etc... I also found out that it ia good preventative measure to change the voltage reg at 100K... I am way over due etc. You have a new follower, smie,

Funny story, was quoted labor 550 to change the VR and only 270 to change the whole alt. Seems ridiculous so I swapped the entire thing.

around how many miles were on this car when you did this change? I have an e550 with 172k miles and suspect this being something giving me issues currently.

Did u have warning lights or you just did it just because?

    • @dcfgarage

No specific warning light. But the the regulator was worn and this is one of the items that if you wait to replace after it fails, the bill can be much bigger if you burn an important module
