It's a brake light. The tabs you pull off the liner have an center insert with hold them in place- remove that first then the tab- not both at once like you show.

@@dcfgarage they are absolutely fine , I don’t see why they have to be changed(especially for being a daily) if you go any further on the rim size , potholes destroy it!

Thanks. I actually pulled the center enough to free up the bottom part. Then I pull the bottom. No need to completely remove the top piece

Hi I replace the third brake light and still not working
Check your fuses
Check the wires on the left trunk hinge. Brown wire is usually cut behind the carpet

I’m sure there is. But if you search for mercedes w211 third brake light, you’ll find it.
