• Mercedes w203 C class ...
If you get one of those messages on the dashboard , it meens one of the followings : your battery does not hold the charge , your battery is discharged , the alternator is damaged , the voltage regulator does not work or all of the above !
However most of the time the problem is the voltage regulator which usually gets worned up or simply does not work . So in this video you will see how you can fix this problem on your Mercedes w 203 or even other generations from that period .
Hope you'll find it usefull , if it was , remember to subscribe and stay tunned for more !

Agree with others, excellent clearly explained step-by-step video.
Your advice is very much appreciated especially concerning turning the steering to hard left and right to clear the fault code. Now my charging system is working perfectly on my 2001 right hand drive c180. Congratulations on your knowledge from New Zealand. Cheers mate!
Did your car die out or just had the warning light pop up? I had no warnings car just died out on me, tried to do a diagnostic but couldn't because the battery reads 11.5
thank you so much for sharing all these detailed tips! It will save me from the dreaded removal of the whole alternator, esp. because that would likely involve removing the anti-roll bar, which might even make it necessary to do a wheel realignment afterwards.
Thank you I have never experienced such excellent videos with great detail
Great description and video and to the point! - no wasted minutes
Thank you soooo much bro. Workshops will not do these kind of jobs and would just recommend changing the whole alternator. Thank you for this
You're welcome ! I glad that others can save some money as well :)
Helpful tips makes it easy and shorten time of repair thank you.
I am glad that it was usefull!
@@doit_vehicles hi this is very helpful
Just wonder how stable and compatible these aftermarket VR's are?
Bravo great job, I do this think tomorrow 👏👏👏
i mistakely bought an Audi regulator and the car charged a little bit then stopped does it mean that regulator died i can just change it and the car will be fine?
Thank you so much I will do these job, I have the same problem,, manie mecanics dont do these Job!!Gis bless you
I am glad you find it helpfull ! 😊
What is voltage regulator emergency mode? Can you share link where emergency mode is explained please?
Well explained
Hi, I had the same issue battery consumer defective message on my c230k and decided to change the alternator and problem is still not fixed. Please tell me what else could be wrong. I am getting 12.18v on the battery and I if I removed the positive cable of while the car is running it shuts off.
Most likely the cable is not able to transfer the charge to the battery due to corrosion or damage
@@doit_vehicles thanks for the reply and I just checked connection and it was not connected properly. Now everything is good. Thanks
great video. car runs fine without warnings.. keep 'm coming!
It was very helpful, thank you. Have to do the same job this weekend.
that's great , good luck !
Thanks that helped a lot
Very helpful....Thank You!!
I realize I am kinda off topic but do anybody know a good place to stream new movies online ?
@Malcolm Bentlee lately I have been using flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
Great working
Thank you só much. Good video.
I am glad that you liked it !
I only get the battery message when I drive at low speed like 40 km/h. The battery message comes and then disappears. I have a c class w203 01'. Car runs fine. What could be the problem ?
this is same for slk230 the regulator is the same?
I believe so
@@doit_vehicles I also do believe so! I have ordered one from rockauto along with an idler pulley (mine goes squeak squeak at low rpm) So I'll be posting a vid of all these troubleshooting configurations. I ordered new BPV so Hopefully my boost will come back. and the Voltsge regulator, got an exhaust gasket because the ones for these cars are like IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. so yeah. we got big plans brudda big plans
while trying to give my car a jump start across the wires and it sparked ever since then my battery is not charging so I wonder if it could be the alternator or the voltage regulator but I want to know if there is anything else I should check before replacing anything or answers would be grateful
Check pre box fuses (60 amp yellow color as far as I know) on positive terminal usually they blow up when a bad jump to protect the fuse box.
Can this be done on a 2005 C230 Kompressor?
Yes
Thanks.
m8 removing alternator would be easier than this :D only sway bar need to remove then u can easily remove alternator
Dude!!,
You don’t think that all that oil contamination around the bottom of your car and the alternator just maybe & might be causing the brushes not to make contact within the alternator???.
Also what you guys don’t realize is that the drive-belt pulley-hub of the alternator is an actuated on/off hub or a clutch hub.
My electrician replaced that regulator part but it is still showing error
I love your videos. So many jobs I've done you describe, and some I haven't!
You make it look it so easy.
Recently I replaced voltage regulator but my US C230 has 120A Valeo, but I had just brushes replace on old regulator. Showed correct voltage, charging but red light on dash. Any idea why? You do it without removing the alternator! Impressive.
So, already rebuilt it once and now repaired old regulator, just decided to get a new alternator. 250K miles. Yes, 250K. I've read replacing Valeo with Bosch has fitment issues so ordered Valeo and now waiting to arrive while also replacing seized supercharger and with new oil!
Have you done motor mounts? I'll keep looking.
Hi ! In my situation after replacing the voltage regulator it did work for fine for few days but than the error cam back , so I had to replace the alternator . I did not replaced the engine mounts :)
whats the OEM part number of the regulator?
F00M 145 225?
Thanks bro
hi i have a w203 i did replace my altenator but still show the battery on dash
Check the wires , voltage drop test and test the battery
I just swapped my alternator and I noticed my battery charge at 13.5v
Should I be worried
You should test the battery first , it might not hold the charge
@@doit_vehicles I just did.
I used my friend car battery which is in good working condition and still got 13.5v
Could please Use help 🚨
I have a C280 !
Would I need to remove the entire Alternator to reach the regulator ?
Or is the regulator separately attached without removing the entire alternator off?
Would appreciate the help ⚠️
Hi ! On a V6 engine the alternator might be easier to acces ; About the regulator , you can see if it's on the back of the alternator ; on some alternators you can not replace only the voltage regulator
Alright I Appreciate it man, real detailed video ☝🏽💯 !
2004 mercedes c230 kompressor sport same problem
Hi i have the same warning light battery/generator..
W203 c220 2003
Battery is few weeks old so this is not the problem + I checked the volt -> evertything fine
When I start the car the generator doesn't load and the warning appears, but after driving for 10 seconds the generator is loading
After driving around I checked the voltage of generator with engine on and it is fine too
Actually the generator can't be defect because I drive like this for a few weeks and the battery should be empty then. But the battery if full okay
Do you think it's maybe some cable or the voltage regulator that is defect?
Thx
this sounds like there is some voltage drop somewhere from the alternator to the battery ( the line with 12 v possitive ) So I would do a voltage drop test first imediately after you start the car ; it should not be more than 0.5 / 1 volt dropped .
Uuuhm, sorry man, but your explanation about the brushes is total horsecrap... the brushes provide excitation current and ground for the field coil of the rotor. And they do that by contacting the 2 slip-rings on the rotor's shaft. The current they supply is only between 3-5Amp, which allows them to stay cool and extends their life significantly. Also, if your field circuit is down and you've got no pcm/sam control going into the voltage regulator, it will give the same error. On this design, the front sam only observes the sense voltage (battery voltage) and tells the ecu via CAN bus if it's good or not. But it can't detect if it's own field control driver is down.
Could you please tell me which is the best suitable Battery size 75 or 100Ah and the brand for Mercedes Benz combi 2001 c180 w203?
one friend said, it's better and enough 75Ah?
It's all about how much you use the battery ; more capacity - more time to use the futures with the engine off . I can not see any reason why a 75 ah would be better than 100 ah , except of the weight and over time load on the alternator ( in the case you use the battery a lot with the engine off ) As brand the original Mercedes Benz battery are the best ( in my opinion ) They are hard to find at least where I live / and expensive . But on this car it was a original MB battery from 2008 and still running well .
@@doit_vehicles Ok, Got it.. then 100Ah.
Thank you.

The worst car ever to own
Why
@@doit_vehicles 🍋 I work on cars and motorcycles I owned 4 Mercedes and the c230 was the worse! Hands down.
But the question is still there , why ?
Agree with you brother many problème in this car
