  • This is the story of the discovery of the oldest Buddhist art in the world!
    Unearthed by chance in the ancient city of Amaravati (present-day Andhra Pradesh), these are the remnants of a Buddhist stupa built by the mighty Satavahana kings. Who were these Hindu kings who created such beautiful Buddhist art?
    It is well known that Ashoka, the great Mauryan emperor, played a big part in the spread of Buddhism over 2000 years ago. But there were other historical events that were equally instrumental in the spread of Buddhism, such as Alexander’s invasion of India, that occurred much before Ashoka. The icons on the Amaravati sculptures, that were once used to represent Buddha himself, tell us the story of Buddhism and the evolution of Buddhist art. This video traces that story.
    This video takes you to the Government Museum at Egmore, Chennai, home to the largest collection of these priceless Buddhist antiques, to tell you the story.

    Thanks for a detailed analysis.Both Salivahanas and Satavahanas are Telugu kings .They have conqured a large land area and ruled from South up to parts of Gujarat.
    Buddha was worshipped in Hina yana and Mahayana cults.Initially in the sybols like lotus, the foot prints of Buddha and his objects like bowl for bikhsha.When sculpting and painting developed in India then only idol worsip started.Ultimately Vajra yana diluted Budhism and slowly vanished from India.

    Practising Zen Buddhist Dharma as I do, I was riveted by all the information in this video. Thank you for your usual brand of quality information presented in your customary clear manner.
    My hunger remains, however, for one vital piece of information: as an Indian living in North America, I puzzle over the fact that, while Gautama Buddha, an Indian, gave birth to Buddhism, it flourishes today over most of East and South East Asia, not in India - the very land of its birth. Similarly, it has been introduced to the West by South East Asians, not by Indians.
    Folkloric ‘history’ aside, this gap in our knowledge would be vital information for a valuable video from you.
    Storytrails, with its established credibility for providing the world with documented historical fact is in the best position to create a video with the answer to this query, please 🙏🏽

      Gautama Buddha was a lichavi chieftain. His birthplace is Lumbini in Current day Nepal. Buddhism was exported to south Asian and south East Asians from India. In India starting from Gupta period there was a revival of Hinduism as we know it. Later Adi Shankara, defeating Buddhist scholars in debates was instrumental in eclipsing Buddhism in India. Bhakti saints in Maharashtra, Karnataka and tamilnadu etc spread Hinduism even wider. As Jainism, Buddhism and several other faiths had dominated the indian landscape for several centuries, they in turn gave way to what we now practice as Hinduism.

    I am utterly shocked that the animator said that Kushans were Indo-greeks. The Kushans were the most prominent of the five Yuezhi tribes that came to India from Gansu province of China through Central Asia. Mistake of this magnitude was not expected from a channel like this

    • @asiddababa
      @asiddababa Год назад +1

      While Yuezhi were from what has become China today, they were culturally Indo-European (Greco-Bactrian). Their culture was syncretic and characterising them as Indo-Greek is not incorrect.

    • @ArghyadipGhosh
      @ArghyadipGhosh Год назад +2

      @@asiddababa No you are wrong. They adopted some indian and indo-greek cultural attributes after they descended to Bactria but their tribal structure, language and genes have nothing to do with the Indo-Greeks. The animator labelled the Kushanas as an "indo-greek dynasty" which is objectively incorrect. By your logic, even Ashoka is indo-greek because he used greek as the official language in north west india

    At 3:30 you say that the Kushanas were descendants of the Alexander's Satrapis, but that is not true. Alexander's Bactria was conquered by the Kushanas who were actually a central asian (or Türkic?) tribe east of Samarkhand. Kushanas absorbed the local indo-greek culture of course. The history from that period is very cool. THere are sculptures of Buddha being protected by Herakles.

    Justinian describes the story of India's liberation as follows. “India after the death of Alexander, the natives had shaken the yoke of servitude from its neck and put his governors to death. The author of this liberation was Sandrocottus (Chandragupta)...”.
    It was the legendary Buddhist King Ashokas' grandfather, Chandragupta Maurya, who annihilated the combined forces of Macedonians and their Aryan/Hindu allies and founded the Maurya Dynasty in 322 BCE.
    Chandragupta Maurya is the ONLY KING IN RECORDED HISTORY TO DO THIS: In atonement for the hundreds of thousands of people he ordered killed, even though they wanted to re-enslave Black people through the evil Aryan/Hindu Caste System. He renounced his kingdom, his wealth, and power in 289 BCE. In 287 BCE, at a Jain Monastery at Karnataka, he performed "Sallekhana" - the Jain spiritual atonement ritual of suicide by fasting.
    The Mauryas spread the "Uddha" (Teachings of the Bu-Uddha) across the planet, not the indo-Aryan Gahnharas. The 'Gandhara Buddhas' (1st century BCE to the 6th century CE) ARE NOT the oldest statues of the Bu-Uddha (3:41).
    The Ajanta Caves are ancient Buddhist Temples adorned with intricate sculptures and paintings and are 'incorrectly' traced back to the 2nd century BCE. Ajanta dates back to the Maurya Dynasty, as they exhibit a mastery of elements of the "Sacred Science" that the Guptas, to whom they are erroneously attributed, never attained.
    The oldest rock-cut architecture in India is the "Barabar Caves," at Bihar. Like Ajanta, they were built around the 3rd century BCE, during the Maurya Dynasty. They also contain numerous statues of the Bu-Uddha as he originally looked, Black-skinned, with full features, and kinky hair.
    The teachings of the "Bu-Uddha" (One-Annointed) have their origins in "Mel-Uddha" (not 'Meluhha,' which is an Akkadian mistranslation), also known today as "Indus Kush" and Indus Valley Civilization. Mel-Uddha means the "Land of Uddha," where everyone was a Bu-Uddha. Their "Civilization" (the truest sense of the word), which was 'rebuilt' after the flooding subsided around 7600 BCE (Rakhigarhi), thrived for 5800 years WITHOUT, Kings, Gods, Rich people, or WARS.
    This is why Ashoka the Great built Stupas atop their ancient cities that were abandoned during the Aryan invasions some 1300 years earlier. To relay to future generations the Consonance between the teachings of Mel-Uddha and those of the Bu-Uddha (and the 'old' Jains).
    We have entered a New Age, the "Age of Civilized Beings." The "Dogs of War" cannot stop the Time. Like us, they, too, must transform or imminently self-destruct. The difference between a "Technologically Advanced Savage" and a "Civilized Being" is the latter embraces 100% of their genotypic self (not merely the 1 to 2.75% of Neanderthal genes many carry), and the "Primordial Organizing Principle of Civilized Beings," embraced by the Civilized Beings of Mel-Uddha, Kemit, and the other members of the "Previous Worldwide Civilization,"
    "Collective Empathy for ALL Spirits based on Expanded Perception of the One Law." Knowledge of which is expressed through the "Sacred Science."

There is no historical evidence that before Buddha there was something like Hinduism. Hindu religion came in much later. Could be after 1000 CE. Even if there was something before Buddha, it was not Hinduism. There are no temples found of other hindu gods before Buddha. Please get rid of the presumptions. You are doing a great job!

    Hi. i would like to raise a point here. As per my knowledge and the Mauryan related context that i have read so far. Ashok started following Buddhism much before the Kalinga war and it is also not true that he is preached non-violence after this war as it is evident that there were wars post the kalinga war as well. This is a very common misconception about the story of Kalinga war and ashoka because this protrays Ashok as someone who became Gandhi from being a Ruthless conqueror. Its a story that everyone likes and would want it to be that way, but history should always be factual or else it looses its credibility. Kindly cross check this information and correct me if im wrong. For now, im going to dislike this video but keep up the good work. Thank you.

      The Satavahanas were Hindus and claimed Brahmanical status,[3] although they also made generous donations to Buddhist monasteries.[106] The lay people in the Satavahana period perhaps generally did not exclusively support a particular religious group .[77]
      The Naneghat inscription of Nayanika, recorded on the walls of a cave, mentions that her husband Satakarni I performed several Vedic sacrifices, including ashvamedha (horse sacrifice), rajasuya (royal consecration), and agnyadheya (fire ceremony).[107] The inscription also records substantial fees paid to Brahmin priests and attendees for these sacrifices. For example, 10,001 cows were granted for the Bhagala-Dasaratra sacrifice; and 24,400 coins were granted for another sacrifice, whose name is not clear.[108]

    • @ShivamRaina-dm9df
      @ShivamRaina-dm9df Год назад

      @@privilegedindiansrworsthum8408 However, Carla M. Sinopoli notes that although there are some records of donations to the Buddhist monasteries by the Satavahana royals, the vast majority of the donations were made by the non-royals. The most common among these donors were merchants, and many of the monasteries were located along the important trade routes.[98] The merchants probably donated to the monasteries, because these sites facilitated trade by serving as rest houses, and possibly by directly participating in the trade.[3] The monasteries appear to have been an important venue for displaying charitable donations, including the donations made to non-Buddhists (especially Brahmins).[106]
