I had to build a mindstorm robot for my tech class in high school, that was 4 years ago, not that long ago. But we used the 1998 model and had to use a very specific program only available for windows 98 and getting that computer started was a CHALLENGE, the programming language was very weird but I must say after twenty years that Lego computer worked absolutely flawlessly, it's incredible the amount of quality Lego has put in their products since forever
lol
Back in middle school we used the Nxt version, our teacher told us to make a robot that can race, go through an obstacle and for final project a robot that could play golf.
That new "gear holder" piece has only appeared in one other Technic set, and just first appeared this year, I believe. It's a new differential, designed to withstand motorized functions better than the old design. It's the best differential design they've made yet, and I expect we'll see a lot more of it in the future.
we got this new differential piece in the 42114 6x6 Volvo articulated hauler too!
It has been argued the designation for the new kit is Spike PRIME, since the Intelligent Hub and servos originated from these sets. However, I think many people may simply call the range "eva" (a scifi form of EV4).
Just started watching lego videos and you do a great job. I enjoy all the enthusiasm that you show in the videos. I had just put together the promo box of this mindstorm set and even though it lacks the robotic parts and programmability, it was fun. I have recently rediscovered Lego as a relaxation mechanism. Something relaxing about just assembling the builds.
Boone is on Beyond the Brick again, this is great. Great video Beyond the Brick very cool.
Thanks thi0s video helped me actually find out where to attach the shooters thanks!
Watching you with so much joy gave me a lot of joy too haha! I just bought this robot for my son and I can`t wait to see what he thinks about it :-)))) Thanks for the review :-D
Great video! Do you know how to see the battery level? Cant find it in the app and having issues charging. Thanks!
16:28 the center piece is called a heavy duty differential. its used in most Control+ car sets
Got to love the set number
Boone - we are having trouble with the app storing the programs we write. Any tips or advice.
You are epic bro carry on with bricks
I love the new Lego Mindstorms Inventor Kit!!!!!!!
I gained some useful info here. I would also like to see a compare and contrast with EV3. How do the medium and large servo motors really compare? Are some of the more difficult issue with the old gyro sensor fixed? All my experience is with EV3, so I may just have to get one of these and sort it out:-) I'm trying to get my head around how this could be good for FLL competition since it seems so less bulky. Or for sumobots even.
Oh I love the new mindstorm set it it amazing 👏
ev4, it's called ev4 because it's the fourth evolution of it's series (ev = evolution and 4 for fourth)
Are you smart
verry cool i may buy it
It is so cool
Is Beyond the Brick a singer? 22:07 LOL
I watched the lego show on Hulu!!!! It feels so good to see mark and boon on a video!!!!! :D
I loved watching you on Lego Masters USA
Does the app also work with the ev3 stone?
I used the classic version in college. This version remind me more of Kinects..I dont see a single lego piece.. Do they sell the classic versions? It was fun creating something custom and doing sumo wrestling in a white line ring against opponents custom design.
GRANDE BOONE
I AM ITALIAN AND I LOVE LEGO STUFF
This thing is awesome
I love it when he has no idea about the differential piece
You didn’t spell different right
@@adamadness2283 haha you don't know what differe
my favorite line in the video is : ohh there's sticker!
Thanks
This is so much better than anything robotics LEGO made before. Better hub: check, BT: check, better and smaller motors: check, more programming options: check, way better set of bricks and pieces: check, better wheels: check, better sensors: check. They only box that might actually offer you even better bang for the buck is the 42199 Liebherr, it comes with 7 motors and 2x4 port Hubs, and is every bit as robot-programmable as this. Just buy some sensors along, and you have an awesome robot starter kit.
Is just me or does it seems funny that Charlie plays the drums ?
RIP Charlie Watts
Cool
I’m gonna be doin g this in my robotics class and you look identical to my robotics teacher
can i write code only in text? or is there no option
I found that my Mindstorms 51515 hub scratches very easily: the plastic of the front of the hub seems to be very soft and can be easily scratched with a finger nail - which is not typical of any Lego part or previous versions of Mindstorms (I have NXT and EV3).
Has anyone faced that, or maybe I got a hub with some defect?
i just checked mine it it seems to be the same way
@@trentbecker8268 do you mean that it scratches easily? Looks like the plastic is softer than in regular Lego bricks?
This thing supports technic motors, but does it support boost motors too? Can't find it on google :'D
Yes. And the boost sensor in the new update
Honestly, I prefer the EV3
Same, they should make an actual next ev3 instead. This inventor is clearly aimed at a younger audience
The ev3 past away
NO WAY! YOURE THE GUY FROM LEGOMASTERS!
I got this set
I BUILT BOOST AND NOW I GOT TO BUY THIS ONE
Can you code it on a phone?
it is called spike prime
I have never seen anything like it.
It's funny to think that the EV3 system was made so long ago that it was designed to run on a PC, rather than a phone. I still can't get used to the fact that PCs have replaced phones for many things.
this software is primarily designed for PC too! Its just that, now the software is identical across all platforms. On PC you still get much more control, like you can export and share programs, as well as the ability to tinker with .py files
@@Unbrickme how do you get it in pc
Im pretty sure the system is called the lego spike
It's you!! They guy from brick masters
Holy smoke the price!!! You would have saved me a lot of time if you'd mentioned it.
Ikr. I was drooling on it for months but i couldnt buy it. The price tag...oh ly god. Idc its 5 in 1 robots, theres no excuse
How is this compare to EV3? Should I buy EV3 or this? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
New one 51
While the EV3 was a good Mindstorms set the New set is way better in most aspects.
Always wanted one of those ;-;
the brains brick is so skinny, is that just like an arduino/raspberry pi and the battry takes most of the space
The guy in the beginning was from lego masters
Yes. H e wad
Isn’t he from LEGO masters mark and Boone right
I didn’t know he was on beyond the brick
Yeah he is on lego masters
Boone was a household name from Beyond the Brick videos long before LEGO Masters. :)
Expected medium resolution LED display, comes with pixelated plastic display. MVP is ok.
This is the 949pzs?
yes
What's always so fun with these electronics is, when you want to play and oh, I need to recharge it first... it's recharged now, oh, I need to install the latest update... it's updated now, oh, my "playtime" is over, I'll come back to it another time. ;-) I recently started the BOOST set, and I feel he in-app instructions are excruciatingly slow, like add one piece per screen. I was glad I could download the PDF instructions for most of the models from LEGO. Let's hope it's the same for this set.
I suspect the program runs from the phone, you don't download a program to the brick and then it runs alone?
Also, I wish all the recent components (Powered Up, BOOST, SPIKE, this one) worked together as one ecosystem, but I read somewhere it was not the case?
Actually this hub has a built in speaker and built in 16 mb of storage so all programs run from the hub itself. You download the program first from your computer and then you press run on the hub
I like the old minstorm more
Yea, it doesn’t even have a screen or buttons
12:00 oys the new differential
Where u on LEGO masters??
wOW iT tAkEs 10 MiNutEs! Who doesn't have ten minutes
Did you go to Lego masters
Just call it "Four"
I would not say it is for adults
You could call it RI5
One cutaway some tv channel commonly had was show the different meanings that various signs had in different parts of the world.
Apparently the US is the only place in the world that defines that as "rock on."
Because opposite it, it had a massive pile of countries that you couldn't read all of them.
And instead of its meaning in those other countries, it had a censor bar with the tag "explicitive."
UK defines it as a rock symbol aswell
Looks cool and nice app but looks like less possibilities then EV3 in terms of what’s in box. And the old motor seemed more powerful
Can you say: Hello! My name is Markiplier and welcome back to lego MINDSTORMS
brao! to se balos!!
l'è prope bel chel lego che!
I must admit that I'm far from convinced by this set yet. It seems a massive downgrade compared to the previous versions. No screen is a big deal to me. And as I understand it, Python programming in still in beta and daisy-chaining is impossible.
And those colours... They hurt my eyes... I would much have preferred the electronics to be in a subdued grey or black, rather than the garish colours they're offered in now. The whole set feels kiddified, and much cheaper, than previous versions.
I wouldn't say so, you get plenty of great upgrades! Powered up compatibility is a big one, you can finally code all your technic sets at an advanced level from your computer! The hub is much smaller too, the EV3 hub was too big. And its not like it was some insanely powerful computer either. It was super basic, should've been much smaller. Also, absolute positioning motors are a major upgrade, perfect for walking robots! On top of that, I suspect daisy chaining will be added soon. Python being in beta points to the fact that there will be plenty of software updates just like with powered up, so, daisy chaining via bluetooth should be supported soon via a software update
I have Mindstorms ev3 set and it is much better than the new version.
Not great, Lego.
Boooooone
Bob?
Rechargable battery is not special because you can buy it from anywhere
It's special because except for one PF rechargeable battery box, most of the LEGO power boxes/hubs require 6 AA batteries...
Also, with the EV3, you didn't get a rechargeable. battery in the retail version box, and it was $349. So, for the same price point you get rechargeable here. I think that's great!
The Ev3 was a lot better than this
Atleast it looked like a mindstorms set
Unlike this which looks like a recoloured spike
Best youtuber ever
This is an excellent mindstorms set! much better than ev3!
I hear The Boys love this Lego set. The coding kinda scrambled my brains a bit though.
Jimmy neutron grew up? 👁👄👁
I think it is called the "EV4"
No, it's not. That is just a concept made by the community for the next Mindstorms.
@@yerfriendtheduck3376 Good to know. I will keep that in mind.
Yeah uhh you need a ev3 thing make a gome boy
this set makes me feel like I’m in 2030
Your a on this RUclips to
Smart device not a included...well ain’t those some smarts by LEGO. In 2021 all these sets will link up to sky net...come to life while the children are asleep and begin their assault against all humanoids.
We got a Lego Mindstorms set and it was a nightmare. Lego sent us the building kit (Lego pieces) but Lego FAILED to tell us that the kit DID NOT COME WITH THE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO MAKE IT WORK. Surprise! Surprise! We needed to purchase the expensive software separately! But hold on! What they failed to tell us (when we bought the kit) was that THEY WERE NO LONGER SELLING THE SOFTWARE!!!! We were SCREWED! All we could do now was just play with the Lego pieces and just build the robot (without the software that programs it). Not so fast! There were missing pieces and we could not build the robot! It sucked...the whole experience. I will never by that crap again.
Jane Doe mindstorms software is free.
@@Unbrickme the nxt set required customers to BUY the software for like 100.00 or more...at the time I bought the set of bricks. So I spoke with lego on the phone and they said they could not sell me the software because they discontinued the software.
@@luvinmaks Even if they did sell the software you know it's been uploaded somewhere already. Sounds like you're making a big deal out of it
@@luvinmaks Both the NXT 1.0 and 2.0 sets came with a DVD with the software
I hate the mindstorms 51515 because I have the mindstorms EV3 set and its beter
How is it better
Exactly you don’t have a good taste MINDSTORMS 51515 is better than you
@@jain231 ? Ev3 has much better screen, more ports. Only thing lacking is the built in gyro
Just call it inventor

Why in the hell can't Lego include the instruction booklet with their kits? Not everyone has internet. Where I live, we have been loosing internet connection up to seven times a day. Some people can't afford internet. For the price of their box of plastic, the least they can do is include instructions.
well, historically, lego mindstorms haven't been including instructions since the nxt kits (we only got one robot from printed instructions). You always needed a computer to play with mindstorms. Even if you had printed instructions, you couldn't code it without a computer
@@Unbrickme yes, we have a computer that works when the internet connection is up but I'm referring to regular lego sets (ie: Super Mario) not the Mindstorms sets.
@@luvinmaks Wait for Elon Musk's 'Star Link'. Should hopefully solve your problem... or perhaps a great data plan on your phone.
@@megamanx466 interesting
Can’t afford internet but can afford Mindstorms? ;-)
To long 😴😴
Yeah
We had THE WORST experience with Lego Mindstorms and I won't buy those kits ever again. We can't build the Robot...missing pieces...and many more problems.
missing pieces? That's a pretty rare problem and you should contact customer support.
Did you get it used? Where did you get it?
@@shortcoolmovies9535 Ibought it new, straight from the Lego company !!!!
Jane Doe LEGO customer support will help you out.
@@gameindustryinsider6450 After reading how they reply to people, I can only imagine how Lego customer service was treated. A person who complains through a 'Jane Doe' account does not have a valuable opinion.
