I think it's a bit naive to think that only paramilitary skills are important. There's plenty of other skills that are incredibly important. Mechanics, electricians, plumbers, farmers...hell, even more mundane skills such as being a decent cook are likely to be far more important. Another thing I rarely see mentioned is teaching skills. Just because someone can perform certain skills at a high level doesn't mean they can teach them.

100% correct. I work in TacMed training and it's surprising to see how quickly people freeze up when things go sideways in scenarios. Working on medical basics, then practicing those skills under stress will save your life.
Carrying a TQ, Z-fold/Combat Gauze, chest seals pressure bandage,, gloves on body EDC is extremely important. Trust me when you need a TQ, you need it NOW. No time to run to your vehicle. The wife and I both work in TacMed and both of us carry our medical on body when we leave the house as well as an active threat response bag in the vehicle. I've had to use these skills on self snd others. Reaction in an immediate response to a serious wound is going to make a world of difference. In less than 30 seconds you lose a lot of blood. I would encourage everyone to train with the TQ they carry with wet hands, cold hands and 1 handed applications and using cover while applying. Do this regularly. Do it until you can't get it wrong

As a PA, medical is my top skill. I've done time in both the ER and OR dealing with gunshots, stab wounds and other various injuries. I was a competitive 3-gun shooter back in the day, so that would be number two. Currently working on NV and thermal, so that's number three. Comms and drones are a weak point for me. I'm pretty decent on driving and general computer skills. My field craft and small unit tactics are very rough. I did sone training with Tyler Grey on CBQ, so no where near Tier 1 guys, but definitely better than the average joe. Definitely looking for other like-minded folks in S FL to train with.

Everyone should know how to use a firearm effectively, first aid, CPR and have at least a general understanding of how to maintenance a home, how to cook and a baseline understanding of how a gas vehicle works.
Those skills in and of themselves, when shared by everyone in a group, makes your group extremely resilient. It's also going to make your day to day life suck a lot less, and will help you get you and your family through emergencies that, in a garbage economy and increasingly dangerous society, might break you. Or worse.
Some other skills I recommend looking into are carpentry, advanced mechanics, masonry, horticulture (growing plants/farming) and sewing.
All of those skills can either make or save you a lot of money, even as a side gig. They also increase your value in a SHTF scenario.

I was an Emergency Services Team guy in Security Forces (precursor to Tactical Response Force (Active Duty). From there, I went to National Guard Infantry and became a Medic with Infantry. One of the best courses I ever went through was Wilderness/EMT.
I have also spent years as a farmer, construction worker, welder, carpenter, cook, etc and highly recommend becoming specialized in a critical skill and then expanding out to enhance your versatility and value within a team or community.
Stay safe and watch out for the folks around you. As you can, teach and develop community. As the people around you become more self-reliant, everyone’s lives become richer and more secure.

I completely agree with you. I would add, when you're building your group, you'll likely already know or get to know people who can be brought into the group in a support role. Nurses, doctors, medics, mechanics, electricians, farmers, etc etc. They'll know exactly what they'll need to be effective, and mostly how to obtain what they don't yet have.
When you and your guys know if they are wounded during something dangerous, there is a medical system and procedure within your group. You get them to that location, and have a basement (or another room) already set up with supplies, is a clean environment, and the experienced medical professionals will go to work on him. Obviously, you won't have an incredible state of the art hospital, but what you do have, thanks to taking that preparedness seriously, is a way to dramatically increase survival, ease suffering, and prevent or treat infections.
The fighters of your group will know this, and nothing can replace the morale boost and comfort that knowledge brings.
Far too many groups have simply considered their men getting wounded, and decide that whatever injury they receive will be a death sentence. Would you feel good about being in that group? It's not like no one can be friends with like minded doctors, nurses, and medics and bring them on board. Tell them the capability you're after, and then let them tell you everything that would be needed to accomplish this and how. Then, the other group members help them out to make it a reality.
One thing I feel I should mention; this is a separate location with no one drawing attention to it. Don't run ops out of this place. Take an indirect route to get there, but this is a big topic in itself.
So, if you already have a group, you'll want this to have a high priority on your to do list. If not, you might be able to meet the right people and build it with the rest of the group.
Goodluck. You absolutely can accomplish this. It will take effort, but the return via capability is worth it.

I’ve noticed that everyone has forgotten the scrounge. The ability to find and or acquire assets is a very valuable skill. But a good scrounge doesn’t just find resources. They can incorporate those assets into bigger picture things. They know how to use things in ways never intended. They don’t just think outside the box. They find ways to use the box in ways never intended. And it’s not a war crime the first time.

Great breakdown. Obviously 100s of skill sets that could be added but this is a great baseline to start. I would add logistics and resupply of critical supplies. Also Sustainment for minor care things like blisters, burns, aches and pains. Working in austere conditions my personal go to kits are Endurance Sustainment Co.'s Personal Sustainment Kit in my vehicle and Micro Sustainment Kit in my gun belt, and my ruck. Super lightweight and extremely well thought out.
    Last is expanding on medical-
As someone who works in TacMed training as a contractor, I can say on this list medical is such an under-rated skill to have. Many people who come through our contract classes as LEO/EMS/MIL and occasionally civilian will have Gucci gear and the extent of medical training is a mandatory CPR cert, and maybe a Stop The Bleed course but they don't put any importance on training using a TQ one handed, with cold hands, with bloody/wet hands, in a vehicle or even behind cover. I watch 10-20 year career shooter's, public safety and medical personnel fall to pieces when put in a simulated "care under fire" scene. Same people we tell to have flashlights, and any other gear minus a firearm going into scenarios are using their phones to find wounds, fumbling with a chest seal while a leg is spurting blood.
I've watched LE come into scenarios ready for the worst and the second blanks are fired, they freeze. I've watched 100s of scenarios and literally 99% of people freeze when stress is put on like a real active threat scenario or even a MVA scenario. Noise, smoke, strobes and a little pressure from instructors and I've watched students not only forget MARCH but I've watched a handful of students who are asked their name or DOB under stress and response is Ummm. Uhhh. Then answer. Simple questions and answers go out the window.
All this said after a 2 day TECC/TCCC type course I can tell the students who have ran through one of our classes in the past because they don't freeze, they don't fall apart when it comes to communicating (first thing to go when heat is turned on) I can absolutely pick out those students who have trained scenarios under low light, stress and working with a group they don't know. 1 well trained medical provider who knows how to take charge of the scene, use his assets and not only get security covered, get a CasEvac plan in place but direct others to what to do next is such an overlooked skill.
From someome whose lived this type of training and done self/buddy aid in real life as well as treating others. I can't stress enough to find the method of carry that works for you and carry medical on body. Trust me if you need a TQ in real life, you do NOT have time to get to your vehicle and then start applying. Just pulling from your belt and starting application with both hands is the longest 30 seconds of your life.
On body the same way we put on our firearm everyday is what we should be encouraging for medical as well.
I personally carry as part of my EDC a TacMed Solutions SOF-T in a Phlster Flatpack TQ carrier. I carry a Celox rapid, Z-fold gauze, 2 vented chest seals, small pressure bandage and a pair of gloves in a Phlster PEW. I also keep 2 pairs of gloves rolled and tucked in a coin pocket or cargo pocket. This simple low profile setup can save your life. When you need your medical, you need it NOW. Just remember a femoral artery bleed will have you in organ failing, deaths door, odds of survival slipping away in about 90 seconds. Bracial artery is around 3 minutes. Thats a very short window to get your TQ out and applied if you haven't practiced. Even worse if you're ducking, on applying with your non dominant hand.
Practice, practice and repeat in off positions. Incorporate running and using your firearm with a TQ in place. It changes things.

I love the part about pistols. I’ve really been re-thinking the pistol maybe not as a secondary, but as an alternate primary. Instead of bringing a short rifle to the fight (which have their own problems and you need to get TO and FROM the target), I can have a rifle fully capable of distance that may lack in CQB capability, but just go to pistol on target. Yes it’s less effective but it’s small, light, maneuverable, easily manipulated, can be suppressed, no adjustment needed to shoot with gas mask or night vision, one hand can be free to open doors or other tasks, etc. I was sold on this after trying to contort myself to be able to shoot a rifle behind my gas mask and then bringing up my pistol and being able to shoot it like nothing was there at all. Same with NODs.

The intent was for Rangers to honestly evaluate their performance across those domains, and continuously improve. For a Civilian/ Prepared Citizen application "mobility", is best articulated as Land Navigation or Orienteering. Being able to quickly and accurately move across the terrain. 10 Things every man/woman needs for the fight.
    1. Fitness and Great Cardio with enough strength to carry or move at least a man that weighs 250lbs
    2. Becoming efficient with your Fire arms Rifles Pistols Shotgun and Bolt Action Rifle. You should have more than just 1 type. So you have an AR15 but have an AK, have a Glock, but have a Sig and a CZ75 and a 1911/2011 or S&W M&P or Revolver. Have that Mossberg 590A1 or a Remington Model 870 and have a Benelli M4 or Beretta 1301/A300. Have a modular rifle like a Barrett MRAD or DesertTech SRS but have a traditional hunting rifle like a Browing XBOLT or Remington Model 700 or 783.
    3. Medical, if you can't help others or yourself with the ability to stop a bleed, you will be a weak link. Have equipment but also training. These can save you life but also your loved ones.
    4. Be mechanically sound. Learn how things work and how to fix them basics for your Car/Truck/SUV but also Guns and day to day things you would need to call someone for fixing by becoming the answer.
    5. Learn how to use your equipment and what works for you. Yes, this means Larping and Larping is good for learning what does and doesn't work for you. Also, learn how to use NODs or anything in your system like comms. You may have drones and know how to fix minor issues when to use it and how to conserve it.
    6. Learn to drive not just defensively but also offensively for escape and evasion.
    7. Fighting I don't mean guns. I mean hand to hand and knife fight fighting. This means Judo/Wrestling, Kickboxing/Karate, and BJJ. This is giving you ways to survive in the fight. With more of a way to protect yourself if unarmed.
    8. Learn survival techniques by learning what plants are good to go and what isn't. So you are a great boy scout. Learn how to cook without fire and how to build shelters.
    9. Become efficient with a map and compass plus predictive spotting for a battle. This means getting out in the wild and learning your area better than anyone.
    10. Computer and management skills I mean learning how to plan and operate effectively. This may seem minor, but being able to plan efficiently and with backups and backup to your backups to those other backups while being able to communicate a plan.
My current group of men consists of 1 doctor, 1 nurse, 1 Wildlife Management Forest Ranger who is ex military, the Local Sheriff ex military, 2 other police officers and both are ex military, a local mechanic, 1 locksmith, 4 construction workers, 5 farmers, I'm management and site research I own 3 companies and I have a background in survival and security. A total of 10 ex military 4 current or former law enforcement. This has allowed us to create a SHTF community that is prepared for batshit crazy possible world. We also have 3 other families who are brothers/family. Cousins 1 is in engineering management for Lockheed, another is a technician for Siemens Hospital equipment and computer operating systems, and the other brother is a diesel mechanic for Bobcat. Of the women, we have 5 teachers/former teachers, 4 nurses, and 1 is a family doctor. The rest would be classified as homemakers.

Most all go to the same church two thirds are family in one way or another or friends of family who were like minded. I don't have any brothers or sisters. So my cousins I'm very close with. We all started in and around 2010 some a little before some like me in 2012. I moved closer to my home where I grew up in 2013 and most in our group never moved too far away. They all live next door to their parent or with in a few miles of their childhood home. The more far away ones are a county away or 30 minute drive. We didn't realize we were all like minded even when I moved back until around 2018. So most of it was via church and talking politics. For us we started noticing so many common themes. It was like oh you got that and all of a sudden it's like, "Oh shit you are prepping." So I live any what I call Rural City County. Where the county small area but very dense to be rural. The county I grew up in has around 25-30 thousand people in it. It's also very Right leaning like 75%+ republican leaning. Most in the group are very much alike. We all lean right and I think you will notice in nearly every prepper is a level of libertarian beliefs. Most of us would talk politics after church and our concerns. This slowly started showing that some of use were very much the same. The group of people who would fight range from late 20s to late 40s some but 1 in their early 50s. While I never was in the military many in our group were. And I almost was I had multiple things happen my senior year that stopped me. Mother had cancer so being the only child it sorta made it where she didn't have anyone else. Also giving my age sorta away. Iraq became the focus over Afghanistan and many in my family were in Desert Storm and did not buy the weapons of mass destruction idea. So, I never joined since you don't have the choice where you will serve. But back to our group many are older or younger than me. This really just came up over time of just hanging out going shooting, hiking, camping, fishing, rafting, hunting, community watch meetings, and chit chat after church. The group idea wasn't until a few year after around 2018 we all realized we were all preppers already and noticed we would stronger together. If you don't have a church and or community of men find one. I know some may not be religious. I was and then wasn't, but I became religious again. I think having a group of men who are like-minded is very needed today for men. As we have been put down and shit on when I was a kid. All men in media looked like goofy ass weak men. We need each other to hold each other accountable. While we all should be accountable. We sometimes don't notice thing that others can. I started getting a little fat in 2015 it wasnt bad and lucky for me I had these guys and they gave me shit and I got back in the gym. I met my wife near that time before we ever dated or anything and I'm happy cause she may have been given the wrong impression without those men. Cause being a fatass is a massive turn off. I think if you are in a City or very rural I totally get how it can be hard. City people live on a running wheels like hamsters. They don't really prep much and part of why I left the city/suburb life for rural farm life. The other thing is extremely rural like Montana Wyoming Idaho North/South Dakota or Eastern Oregon and Washington I have a home out west I bought for purely hunting purposes. I know very Fudd of me. But you need to do the same. I suggest if you can do the following step join a church. Like I said earlier you may not be religious you maybe very religious or you maybe a sinner, who realizes they are not perfect and need the grace of God to keep them from being a degenerate. Find a church and you will find men who are like minded. I don't mean join the first church you step in. Visit find the church where you know 1 the men there live it and I think you will be surprised. Something I've noticed in the last 4 year or so is a lot of more people are prepping. It isn't seen as crazy as it was 10 years ago. I think China and COVID-19 and our joke of a government for waking many up. Also if you live in a city you are fucked cause they all have head in the sand drinking from the tit of our government or they attention span of some one with ADHD on crack. So, if you are in a City try to get out of the City. Move at least to a suburb and better yet a rural area 30 mins to an our from a city is best. The last thing my wife is a City girl. I think this would've been the hardest part if my wife didn't follow my lead. If you are not married and the woman you are dating or possibly engaged to is a independent feminist I don't need no man type woman just don't. You would Proverbs 21:19 - 'Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife. Find a woman who will follow you to the ends of the earth. This is a blessing from God when you find one. I did but had I married just any woman. That I like enough and found attractive I would've been screwed cause so many will not follow their husband's advice and leadership. Have a standard for a woman and have them for yourself.

@@billcostanzo6112 I was reading what I wrote and rather than try and locate again I don't mean you need a second home. I said something after the Fudd comment and it was like so should you but I mean so should you as to find a church or a community base group which most churches are. As the churches job is to go out into the community and bring God's word but also put it to action. When you find people. Like that if its working in Charity or something find men there talk learn about each other overtime. Cause if you come right out that you are a prepper people who are not will look at you like some crazy ass. I get that. It's why I say that community churches just if men go there. I also know some churches where men have been ran out of due to some TradCon bs. Know we need to be more traditionalist minus racism and hopefully you can be racist with each other but not in a hateful way be a brotherly way. Don't do this until you know it's cool with each other. I love my friends of color and even more so the ones who will take a shit on me and I can shit on them. I hate weakness. To many are soft and cry when people joke about each other. Not everyone can handle my personality type I can be an asshole but when you have men and friends who you can be the real you. Who can make fun but love each other as people the world becomes so much better.

How many skillsets do you need? Depends on the size of your group. The more people you plug in to the machine the more capability you get out of it.
ie...1 person can fight...and is able to last for only a few hours
a small team can operate for a few days
Add in a cook and a logistics guy and you can operate for extended periods of time (weeks/months)
Add a mechanic and the team can put down the rucksacks and mount up trucks. Suddenly the area you can cover goes from a few hundred meters to many miles.
Add a Doc and survivability goes up.
Add a generator tech and an engineer and you get a field hospital.
The real questions are how many people do you have....and what do you realistically expect them to accomplish?
The more you are trying to do...the more you will need SOFT skills.
    Hope that helps,
    Phil

On one hand I don’t have extra money for training, one thing of being a youtuber usually is better with extra money.
Second part is that I feel like youtube with Garand Thumb and many youtubers I am going in a circle of constantly listening and doing nothing with my life. It’s like I need to just go out there. Start reading, get in person training, just turn off the phone and throw it away until I can accomplish something and fix my life.
Even though I buy all this stuff, I don’t even think I use it because of the loop of constantly watching youtube, playing video games, sleep, watching youtube, doing a job, sleep, ...do nothing in life....
the loop of the internet of information and talking and seeing everything you want. In a way it’s an addiction and you’ll feel it after a month or two if you’ve gone out to nowhere before.

It’s too much if you try to do it all at once. Make a list of all the skills you want to learn. Then prioritize them for which ones are most important to learn. Then, only do the top one until you have reached a base level of proficiency. Then go to the next etc. DO NOT JUMP AROUND! Only do maybe two topics max a year. Within 2-3 years you will actually be competent. If you go into panic mode and try to do them all you won’t end up getting good at any of them.

All good but very 'inside the box' A-typical military skill sets. Basics are vital - shooting, medical, comms, navigation and (overlooked here) - fitness but 'tactics' is where the winners and losers will be decided. Civilians should consider 'insurgent/guerilla - outside the box' type tactics as they will not posses the tactical experience current and former military grunts will have. It's vital to understand basic 'small unit tactics' so that disruption and chaos can be effectively deployed in unconventional ways.
