Multi Axis Wood Turning In Almost Every Direction

  • Welcome welcome! In this video I make twig pot twins using a lathe and multi axis wood turning methods.
A piece of black walnut was mounted onto a waste block then shaped before being cut in half, rotated 90 degrees, shaped some more.
The blanks were then mounted individually in the spindle orientation to remove waste wood and shape the top of the vases.
Finally a sand and a coat of shellac to finish.
The reason I only turned two sides was because the wood had got some very nice figure in places, I left the two best looking sides. Sometimes wood doesn't need a shape, It's natural beauty does just fine.

What an utterly fascinating idea! The final views remind me of the sculpture depicted on the cover of the Pink Floyd record called, I think, The Division Bell. Very good work as always Tim, thanks for sharing and for the constant inspiration.
